The first time I met Murphy, the goalie of the Coyotes hockey team, I thought he was the most attractive man I’d ever seen.
The second time, we shared a wild night and I never planned to see him again.
Imagine my surprise when I showed up for a work meeting only to find out Murphy was my new client.
He needed a bodyguard to pose as his live-in girlfriend, and I was perfect for the job.
And now I’ve discovered living together in such close proximity comes with its own set of challenges… The man never wears a shirt. Or pants.
The more I fight to keep things professional between us, the more he struts around in his boxer briefs trying to tempt me.
It turns out guarding the goalie may be easy.
But resisting him is damn near impossible. This is a standalone feel good low angst fake relationship hockey romcom where the swoony goalie instantly falls for the not so enamored spitfire heroine.

Jacob Chance grew up in New England and still lives there today. He’s a martial artist, a football fan, a practical joker, and junk food lover. A USA Today bestselling author of sports romance and romantic suspense, Jacob plans on writing many more stories.
Jacob Chance never disappoints me !! I’ve been waiting on these two since the first book. Murphy and Wendy are sensational characters and as a couple wowza!! There chemistry is off the charts, just thinking about it , I have to fan myself.
This story is so sexy, sweet and completely awesome, the series just keeps getting better and better.
GUARDING THE GOALIE by Jacob Chance, book three in the Charleston Coyotes series is Murphy and Wendy’s story.
Murphy, the goalie for the Coyotes, has a few weird packages delivered and realizes he has a stalker so he hires a female bodyguard who just happens to be his one-night stand.
Wendy is looking to try and get her business off the ground and doesn’t have time for anything else until Murphy shows up on her doorstep and requires her services as a bodyguard.
Murphy is determined to get Wendy to give him a chance but due to her past, she is quick to judge and reluctant to trust. The banter and chemistry between them was pretty decent. I struggled after the seventy percent mark as I found that the book took a turn and became odd and unbelievable in some spots.
I am looking forward to continuing the series and more books from the author.

4 Star Review Guarding The Goalie (Charleston Coyotes Hockey # 3) by Jacob Chance
This was aan entertaining addition to the Charleston Coyotes Hockey series. This is goaltender Murphy and Wendy’s story and it was fun and flirty. Murphy doesn’t take life seriously and it shows.
Wendy is not afraid to stand up for or go after what she wants, she is focused and driven, totally the opposite of Murphy. However, from the moment she met Murphy she was attracted to him. Imagine Wendy’s shock when her one night stand turns out to be her new client.
The chemistry between them is intense, their banter witty and I the camaraderie between the players of the Coyotes team was truly entertaining.
Jack Murphy own the goalkeeper for the Charleston Coyotes hockey team and doesn't feel ready for relationships unless it's with his dog, Mayer. After a one night stand with Wendy, the attraction he feels is different from the attraction he's felt for others. When he hires a body guard for to a stalker, he's surprised when it's Wendy he's hired. Moving in to protect him, the attraction grows between them. What happens when the stalker is caught? Do they go their separate ways? Will they give in to the attraction and see where it takes them? This was another great book from Jacob, with humour and characters you can't help but love! Can't wait for the next one!
Wendy and Murphy are everything. Their banter, chemistry, fun and just personalities make them a top tier couple. I love this group of characters and the dysfunctional family they’ve created.
Jacob Chance has done it again! Guarding the Goalie is book #3 in the Charleston Coyotes series, and this book did not disappoint. With a touch of suspense, chemistry, passion, heat, and plenty of humour, Murphy & Wendy's story has everything you could want from a great read. This couple had me laughing throughout the book with their banter and one liners. I highly recommend this book, and series as an absolute must read, and can’t wait for the next book.
I knew Guarding The Goalie (Charleston Coyotes Hockey Book 3) was going to be good when Murphy and Wendy, two self proclaimed and professional one night standers hooked up! I can definitely say so far, this is my favorite book in the series. The storyline is clever, I love the flirty and naughty banter between Murphy and Wendy as well as the entertaining and laugh out loud banter between the team players (especially Ryder and I can’t WAIT for his book).
Poor Murphy has a stalker and who better to protect him than Wendy since she just started her own security firm. They really are excellent together and I love that they connected immediately and on every level. They are even better in the bedroom as their sexy times are fiery, appealing and steamy as heck! If you’re looking for an enjoyable, funny, sexy and five star read with a little action thrown in, then Guarding The Goalie is definitely the book for you.
A twist or turn-about on the usual stalker/bodyguard trope. This time the big hockey player is the one being stalked and needs a bodyguard. Murphy is the team goalie and when he and Wendy meet it’s instant sparks, the second meeting leads to an unforgettable night together. He’s a player and doesn’t need the distraction of a relationship and Wendy has recently started her own protection agency business and doesn’t have time for one. When a stalker gets inside his house his teammates convince him he needs protection and maybe a ‘girlfriend’ to warn off the crazies. And so the scene is set, a female bodyguard is needed and who will perfectly fit the bill? Wendy, of course 😉. Full of wickedly amusing banter, humour, intrigue, steam, a scene-stealing puppy, dirty talk, and relatable characters topped off with a wonderful HEA. I’ve not read Jacob Chance before but I will have to go back and read the start of the series and TBR the next one. A must read!
Wendy and Murphy had a whirlwind of a story. They have this instant chemistry that gives us some good spice right out the gate but then they find themselves pushed back together when Murphy’s stalker comes out of the wood work. I enjoyed the role reversal of the female bodyguard and it paired really nicely with the fake dating and forced proximity tropes through the story.
How the drama unfolded around the stalker was a little surprising. I thought it would be the main point of contention between them and it kind of was but wasn’t at the same time. I almost wanted much more of the stalker thriller side to really amp up the wow factor in the plot. I do think towards the end, these two got a little corny. It was almost too lovey dovey after they spent a good amount of the book just being casual but liking one another.
Another disgusting manhoe. I just finished a book with same kind of MMC and I don't have it anymore to read another one. Why do authors think putting a hoe as MMC is romantic???
Convo:
“Good. I’m one hundred percent committed to pussy.”
“More like you’ve sampled hundreds of them,” Darius says, laughing.
“Hey, variety is the spice of life,” I explain.
Kaiden’s blue eyes turn serious. “Someday you’ll find a woman you can’t live without. If you’re lucky, she won’t be able to live without you either.”
“Now, why would I want that? It’s like eating rotisserie chicken every night for the rest of your life. I like ‘food’ too much to limit myself to one entree.”
I was excited about reading this after reading the reviews. I was disappointed.
The relationship felt rushed and contrived.
The story checked most of the correct boxes so it passes all the woke tests. This wouldn’t have been a bad thing if the writing flowed more smoothly.
One big miss was the time Wendy and Murphy had sex without a condom, which was stupid considering her brother and her best friend had a baby in high school.
Wendy was supposed to be such a bad-a$$ security consultant and bodyguard yet she let him go out on his own because she was doing her company’s paperwork and payroll. As his bodyguard he was her job and priority. And what was worse was that she ran home to mommy and daddy (to another state) when her feelings were hurt. What kind of a professional is that?
When she was hitting an assailant, she called out her moves like she was in her class. Really?
It seemed as if the entire hockey team consisted of only 4 guys.
It wasn’t a good hockey romance unfortunately. I have read some awesome hockey romances where it felt like the writer understood and loved the sport of hockey. This felt like one sport could be exchanged for another and seemed like someone jumping on the hockey romance bandwagon without a lot of knowledge.
I loved reading about Murphy and Wendy. Neither were looking for love but their chemistry was undeniable. I loved the banter back and forth between them and also between Murphy’s teammates.
I feel like Wendy was guarding herself as much as she was guarding Murphy. It's hard to believe that at the first sign of trouble, she ran. I thought she would always stand her ground. Luckily, Murphy came after her. The excitement didn't end there. He was so caught up in Wendy, he didn't handle his stalker problem, and it came back to bite them both. This book was funny, sexy and thrilling. Just another one hit out of the ballpark by Jacob Chance!
Guarding the Goalie by Jacob Chance is a boos/employee romance that you have no read before!!! I have read a ton of stories where the hero is hired to guard the heroine from a stalker but I have never read where the heroine is hired to guard the hero! Jacob Chance did an amazing job tapping into this rare type of story! Murphy is not weak by any means but needs to hire a bodyguard to pose as his fake girlfriend to help lure the stalker out. Insert Wendy Murphy’s past one night stands and watch the fireworks explode!!!! I absolutely loved this story!!! Murphy and Wendy are perfect for each other!!
I love the the way the characters come together. The banter and humor is in every aspect of this story and the way that it all came together was so dramatic and fun. I can’t wait for more
Another great book from Jacob Chance. This book has LOL humor, great banter and major chemistry between Wendy, Murphy and Mayer (the weiner dog). I love how there are tie-ins to other books, not just the Coyotes series. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Definitely reccomend this book.
Welcome back to Charleston, home to Rainbow Row and the hottest hockey players! This is the third book in Jacob’s Charleston Coyote series and they just keep getting better and better.
Murphy is the goalie everyone loves, he’s hard on the ice but also has a soft gooey center for those he loves. When he starts getting some unwelcome attention he seeks help, and with the luck only he could have his help comes in the form of a beautiful, strong, smarts$$ that he can’t stop thinking about.
This is a perfect afternoon read, filled with emotion, a little suspense and the perfect amount of steam. Do not miss out on this one, Jacob has a way of making even the strongest fall and it’s beautiful to see.
Loved this book. This series keeps getting better. I love the banter between Wendy and Murphy. This story is funny, steamy, and romantic. I highly recommend this book.
Jacob brought his ’ A ‘ game with this one!The hilarious one liners, superb banter, and heat had me completely lost in the Coyotes world and refusing to put the book down.
Murphy and Wendy are 2 people content with the single life and a quick romp in the sheets. Unfortunate circumstances forced them to be with each other 24/7 making their attraction harder to avoid. If you are looking for an easy read filled with laughter and a touch of suspense definitely one click Guarding the Goalie. These two had me laughing and swooning the whole time!
GOAL!!!!! This story is everything! Jacob made me fall in love with a girl lol! Wendy is the best ever. Her personality, her wit and how she just has this feisty spirit. She captured me just as much as Murphy lol! The banter in this book is the best I have read between a Hero and a heroine in years!! Murphy and Wendy’s story I just couldn’t put down, they had me completely immersed from start to finish. My favorite read of 2023!
Guarding the Goalie was a thrilling romance that hooked me from the very beginning. This book had it all – heart, passion, humor, and emotion. The storyline was very-well written. I adored the push and the pull between Murphy and Wendy; their chemistry electric and attraction magnetic. The banter had me laughing often. The emotions radiated from the pages and the swoon-worthy moments were breathtaking. There was no angst or drawn-out drama – simply a sweet story with a little added suspense. This book was everything I hoped for and more. I loved every second of this story and didn’t want it to end! This is one book you want to read!
Another Hat Trick for Jacob! Murphy and Wendy are hot, sexy, sarcastic and so damn cute! But, I have to admit that, I think Mayer is my favorite and I want to take him home with me. It's always great to see characters from other books, and even series, make appearances and link their worlds together and Jacob is an expert in that. Loved every second of this and I'm already waiting for Ryder's story now.
Honestly, I would be surprised if I ever have one of Chance’s book less than 5 stars! Absolutely love this book. Another great sport’s romance that will definitely keep you turning the pages. Wendy and Murphy are made for each other! The perfect couple. I can’t wait for the next book
I absolutely love Wendy. She's fierce, smart, and sexy. While Murphy is strong, protective, and down right yummy. These two were made for each other, and their story is perfect. I liked that she was a kickbutt chick and that he didn't feel emasculated about it. I can't say enough about this book. It was just a perfect addition to this series. Jacob Chance once again proves what a great story teller he is.
That girl can kick some butt. I love a story with a strong woman lead, and she is the definition of that. These two have one hot night together before she runs out on him. Then, a stalker brings them back together. He's not letting her or of his bed once she's back in it.
This story is awesome sauce. Murphy and Wendy are phenomenal together. From their first time together to the very end is absolute entertainment, and I loved it. She is badass and he is a badass goalie. I can’t wait for them to appear in the next book. The writing and flow of this book is top notch. I beyond recommend this book, series, and author.
He did it again! This is a great read. All the feels. I actually laughed out loud reading this book. Murphy is awesome and Wendy is his perfect counterpart.
Murphy and Wendy are fantastic. Probably my favorite so far in the series. The banter between the two of them is perfection. They had me laughing the entire time. The chemistry between the two was instant. I love a strong a female lead and Wendy was just that! She is one of my favorite female main characters of 2023! Murphy is fun, protective, and hot. He was like a big teddy bear but he isn’t perfect which was refreshing and made me actually love him more. I can’t wait for the next book and see more of these two and the entire Coyotes crew!
This book is the best in the series so far and I can't wait for more. Murphy met his match. Wendy was so witty and kept him on his toes I loved every second of this book.
I have been looking forward to this book, as goalies are my favorite players, it was wonderful! Murphy and Wendy are great together. She is smart, sassy and perfectly imperfect. Murphy has a typical hockey player ego with a healthy dose of respect and humility. Loved the story from start to finish!
