Broken Bounty #2

Survive for Me

Rate this book
Jersey wasted no time in sacrificing himself, thinking that it was the necessary step to save the lives of the only two people left in the world for whom he cared. But death wasn’t what he got in exchange for that sacrifice. Death would’ve been a relief. Instead, Jersey finds himself in the trunk of a car and on the way to be tortured relentlessly for days while his captors use his suffering to attempt to lure Trista and Memphis back out of hiding. His background from another life provided him with the ability to withstand that torture to some extent, and Jersey knows that once his mind has had enough, a more primal part of him will take over until his body can no longer endure the pain. He was willing to live out his last days in the painful custody of the man he used to work for in order to keep Trista and Memphis safe, but he was entirely unprepared to learn the truth of how he’d come to work for that organization in the first place.
Secrets that shatter his already fragile grip on reality send Jersey into the depths of his memories until he struggles to find his way back out of the past.
Trista and Memphis know they’re working against someone else’s timeline to get Jersey back alive. To achieve that goal, they’re forced to rely on the help of others who’ve worked within the same dangerous organization that connects all of them. While Trista wrestles to understand what Jersey might be experiencing, she’s left with the unpleasant realization that after an entire life spent in solitude, she no longer wants to face the world alone. Except the version of Jersey who returns to her is a man she barely recognizes.
She can’t see a future without him, but he can’t see beyond the nightmares of his past.

This is the second book in The Broken Bounty Series . It is not a standalone. It’s a dual perspective, dark romance and is intended for readers over 18 years of age. Emotional upheaval is common in the works of Ember Nicole, and this one is no different. There are warnings included within the first pages of the book. Please read and understand them before venturing further.

It’s taken me a minute to decide what to say here.
The fear that this book wouldn’t do justice for Jersey Boy and Trista’s love was reeeaaaall after the way that so many fell so hard for these two in Break for Me.
So, if you’re here hoping for an easy continuation of that BfM vibe, this isn’t that.
SfM is very different.
It’s hard to read and wildly emotional.
The ups and downs are whiplash-worthy.
There are parts that will make readers hate me.
There are some new characters who bring the humor back to alleviate a little of the weight.
Though, I have no doubt that some will say this isn’t romance at all. It definitely isn’t pretty, feel good romance.
It’s raw and messy.
I wanted to let everyone see beneath the surface of these characters this time around.
By the end of this book, neither Jersey nor Trista are the same person that they were at the beginning of Break for Me. But the beauty in it, to me at least, was that they could recognize these changes and decide to keep moving forward together.
They’re both terribly broken humans.
And while the circumstances surrounding their brokenness might be unique, entirely fictional, and far-fetched, the desperate desire to overcome past trauma, curb stomp old demons, and find a way to continue loving someone through their pain is very real.

If I haven’t scared you off yet and you still plan to dive in, mind those trigger warnings and buckle up.

Ember truly did it again. I was expecting this book to be as good, if not better than Break for me (and it was), however I wasn’t prepared for the absolute emotional damage that came with it. Survive For Me wrecked me in the BEST way. My heart broke over and over for my Jersey Boy. To say I’m impressed is an understatement and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The crazy, the messed up, the downright depraved things that happened made my dark romance heart so very happy (and that spice 🌶️🥵) honestly this book f*ucked me up and I asked for seconds.

In all seriousness, Survive for me does an amazing job incorporating things like mental health and PTSD and how people talk and cope about them in their own ways.

Thank you Ember Nicole for giving me the opportunity to review the eARC of this absolute masterpiece.

Survive for Me, the highly-anticipated, counting-down-the-days-until-release, can’t-read-fast-enough, follow-up to Break for Me, is everything we’ve come to expect from an Ember Nicole book.

It immediately brings readers right back to the story and grips their hair hard while the book unfolds. It gives them character development, closure and a happily ever after fit for them.

Seph will drive you right back to Jersey and Trista leaving readers no choice but to grip their hair hard while the rest of this story unfolds, ties up loose ends, and fills us up like only Jersey can.

Expect twists, turns, turmoil, tantrums, and take-everything-I-have-to-give moments from page one until the final teary eyed scene.

We’ll get our closure while these two finally get their HEA…and we’ll get to spend time and obsess over who comes next in the Broken Bounty Series.

Y’all. This book hit all of my emotions in the best ways. Trista and Jersey’s journey is just 🤌🏽 And once the spice hits it’s 🔥🔥

I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series. Some heartbreaking and tragic aspects but also love and friendships created such a well rounded story for Jersey and Trista. I loved it! In an effort to not spoil the book I won’t give too much away but I will say that I loved the glimpses into Jersey’s past… just… 🥺🥺

Cannot wait for the third book to grace is with its presence 🖤

4.5/5 is my initial reaction and I’m lowkey sobbing over this one and how beautifully it was wrapped up 😩

Okay, okay 9/25/23. I'm back to give this the clear headed review it deserves. Bravo, Ember! I am so excited for this one to come out and I thank you and sunnybabePR for allowing me an ARC of this!

Wowowow, so we picked up right where we left off with book 1. Jersey needs saving and our sassy foul mouthed Trista is left with Memphis to help save their boy. We have some turbulent drama and heavy thoughts during this book, so please do read all of the trigger warnings. These details are heavy but are necessary to help further this story and have it all make sense.

I was not expecting the shoe string connection type of trope of the workers of the agency and the connection to how Jersey became employed by the agency and his full backstory. However, I ate this up and left like no crumbs. I can't wait for more in this universe if it's coming and I thoroughly enjoyed that Jersey and Trista can get some [hopeful] peace with this ending.

The pacing was super quick, almost a smidge too quick for what I would have liked to see. However, I did love that the book did not run out of suspense at all and I think I held in my breath for like half of this book. I was so suspicious of every new character, and I always say that my real hesitation to characters is a testament to the author's ability to craft REAL people/characters in their stories (and this was no different).

Okay, Ember Nicole you’ve done it again. Survive for Me is the second book in the broken bounty series and picks up where Break for Me left you with the meanest cliffhanger that breaks your heart.

Ember takes us into Trista and Jersey’s past and my god it shattered me. This book will take you through every single emotion you could possibly feel.

We’re also introduced to some new characters and boy I’m ready to feel all the feels that they will be bringing us.

I don’t think I’ll ever get over my book hangover from Ember Nicole, but I’m so excited to read the next book!

My absolute favorite quotes:
“If you really want to play the blame game, I’m only awake because you snore like a fucking lumberjack, pretty girl.”

“Get in the pumpkin truck.”

“Broken hearts need someone with duct tape.”

The snark and the chaotic love between Jersey and Trista is everything. I love all of their broken bits and how that makes them perfect for each other.

Delving further into Jersey's background was hard (check the TWs!). The man has lived through too much, it’s no wonder his head is as messed up as it is. I love that Trista understands his troubles and isn’t afraid to be there for him even though it’s difficult and potentially dangerous for her.

The snark throughout the book, even when the characters are going through some tough sh*t is amazing. I love the sarcasm and how they all banter with each other. It brings some fun and charm to an otherwise really dark story.

I’m so happy to see they got their HEA and I can’t wait for Utah and Memphis’s book. I hope we also see more of Kyle.

I read this in a less day.
So glad to be reading the next stage in Trist and Jerseys story.
What a rollercoaster it was!
The tension and emotions between this pair had me feeling all sorts.
Jersey is a man who has been through a lot.
He has lost everything and everyone he cares about and now has been captured by the people he used to work for.
Trista and Memphis are the only two people left in the world who care about him, and they are risking everything to save him, Jersey is not the same man he was before, and is traumatized and haunted by his past.
Trista can't see a future without him, but he can't see beyond the nightmares of his past.
This is a suspenseful story of love, loss, and redemption.
It explores sacrifice, survival, and the power of love to overcome even the darkest of pasts.
Take note of the triggers.

Survive For Me is the continuation of Jersey and Trista's story that began in Break For Me. The path to freedom is far from a simple one for these two. Any love worth having is worth fighting for, and boy do they fight for it. The brilliant banter and snark from the first book is still abundant in this one, as is the spice. However, the possible triggers in this one are even more present, so please take them seriously before you begin this one. This book will put you through the gamut of emotions, but it is worth feeling every single one. The way complex issues and emotions are handled through Ember Nicole's writing deserves to be applauded. As difficult as these tough situations may be to read at times, the representation is so appreciated. Though I am sad to see the end of things from Jersey and Trista's perspective, I can't wait to see where Memphis takes us.

Survive for Me is book 2 in the Broken Bounty series and another enjoyable book for me. Jersey sacrificed himself so Trista and Memphis could escape. The torture he endured while OTT was heartbreaking. Trista is a mess. She has spent so much time surviving that her emotions are all over the place over the possibility of losing Jersey. My only complaint was that I wish less time was spent on the torture and separation and more time spent with Trista and Jersey as a real couple with a future. As with book 1 the banter was great. I really liked the addition of Memphis and Utah, and I can't wait for their book.

Ember really is just simply amazing. The ride she will take you on and the emotion she will make you feel is something else!!

She will make you cry, I had actual tears more than once, there was sobbing, you will scream, laugh, want to throw your kindle at the wall, all of those and more.

I was desperate for this book after the ending of book 1 and it certainly gets a lot worse for Jersey, he really goes through it!!

This picks up just as we left the first first book and you won’t want to put it down, but it won’t be easy to get through it, prepare for a lot of wrecked emotions.

Can Jersey survive for Trista and will he be the same man she knew before.

There is still the enemies to lovers vibe and plenty of banter that I loved from the first book. Plus some added from the other characters we get to meet. Hello Daddy Utah!

We get to learn a lot of all their pasts and what’s made them the people they are today. Again more heartbreak and wrecked emotions there.

And of course I cannot wait for the next book and more Menphis.

The way this book had me by my throat is unreal. It's perfect in the most messed up way. This is continuation of Trista and Jerseys journey from book 1: Break for me.

This book is an emotional turmoil and it is way darker than the first one. I've never loved a couple so much as much I love Jersey and Trista. It hits right at that spot in so many ways I can't even explain.

This book is emotionally deep and Ember knows just how to reach that depth. I don't know if I mentioned in the review of the 1st book, but it was so healing. I was lost in it, in a good way and same goes for this one too. This of course has a lots of up and downs, but the way Tris and J hold onto each other is commendable.

There are some new characters introduced in this, which you have see for yourself, because I'm obsessed with them.

And my dear Memphis will always have my heart.

Thank you @embernicole.author for blessing me with this ARC. I cant wait when I have the physical copies of these. I'm going to place them in my Altar and worship them.

If you are dark romance reader, YOU. NEED. TO. READ. THIS. SERIES.

Survive for me starts out with a bang. Jersey has been captured and triss and Memphis on the run. They find an address in Indiana in jerseys belongings, an address it turns out is for a house in the middle of nowhere Indiana. It was his exit plan. Triss and Memphis begin to form a plan on how to get jersey out safely and they bring in another judge/ executioner team Memphis trusts. As the days go on jersey is tortured in ways that would break any man and we find out more about his backstory and his life before he became an executioner. Once rescued he is suffering from severed ptsd and refuses to be alone with triss. There is more but I feel like I already said too much. So I will leave you with this.

This is not a book for the faint of heart. It’s gut wrenching, graphic in the details of jerseys torture, and just plan heartbreaking at times. However it is also amazing. Ember Nichole really has a way of making you love her and hate her all at the same time. I found my self on the verge of tears for like the first 65% of the book before just loosing it. I love how even through breaking her readers hearts she still makes us believe that they will get their happily ever after even if it takes a few books to get there.

Survive for me

Jersey boy is one of my favorite morally grey men!
After book one ending on that cliffhanger this was exactly what I needed!
Trista & Jerseys story picked up right where it left off. It definitely gave me all the closure I needed with a few heart palpitations along the way.
I really enjoyed the new characters & I’m so excited for book 3!!
This one has more trigger warnings that book one so make sure to check those out.

Jersey suffered so much mentally & physically to get back to his girls & it triggered some ptsd & that definitely broke my heart.

This was an emotional rollercoaster, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. The mental health aspects and struggles were written really well as well as the entire story.

I loved Jersey and Triss as a couple. They just fit really well together with their personalities. The crazy, unhinged, weird couple they are 🖤 and as always, their chemistry in the bedroom was hot AF 🔥🔥

I love the new friendships made within this story. The characters are lovable and funny. I can not wait to read all about Memphis in the next book 🖤🖤

Who can survive reading this series?

This book just made me want a Jersey of my own even more than before! “My girls. Not his. Nobody else’s. Mine” if that doesn’t have you melt, I don’t know what will. And meeting Kyle, the added humor, and characters (who else is waiting for more Utah!!) I couldn’t put this book down!

The only drawback to this series is waiting for the next book to come out…. I just want to devour all these books.

☠️ 2nd in a Series (reading Break for Me FIRST is a must to understand what’s happening in Survive for Me)
☠️ Dark Romance (complete with an extensive list of trigger warnings)

Jersey Boy. I have no words. That was torture. Pure and utter torture and heartbreak reading the first half of this book. It was brutal and I wanted to throw my kindle so many times. I haven’t had a series pull so many emotions out of me in a long time but Jersey Boy did.

This series comes with its one load of trauma and leaves you reeling. I still want to st*b my leg to be rescued by Jersey. I wasn’t expecting the trauma to unload on you like it did, but there would be no darkness without light in the end. Trista and Jersey got the happy ending they both fought for alone for so long in each other. I just hope she never stops trying to escape and he never stops tracking her down.
I loved all the back and forth, the fighting with and for each other and how not only did Jersey give up everything for Trista, she did the same right back to go back for him. Utah was so light and refreshing and gave me laughs exactly when I needed them.

I can’t wait to see where Utah and Memphis take us.

OMGGG this book was just as amazing as the first!! I’m obsessed with Jersey & Trista and the type of relationship they have together. This book made me giggle so much but also the way this book broke me in all the best ways. I was not prepared for all the emotional damage that it brought. My heart definitely hurt for my Jersey boy. But it made my dark romance heart so happy when it got to the smut🥵. The fact that there is now going to be a book about Memphis & Utah???? I can’t fucking wait!!! Survive for me is the sequel to Break for me and absolutely one of my most anticipated reads of the year.

Jersey Boy still has my heart and forever will have my heart.

This book carries on from where Break for me left us, straight away, we’re thrown back into their chaotic world.

I knew this book was going to be insanely good but I was not prepared for the EMOTIONAL DAMAGE. This book destroyed me in every possible way. My heart broke beyond repair and I’m not convinced it will ever be the same again.

This book is everything you need. It’s depraved, heartbreaking, crazy, it’s an absolute fucking rollercoaster. The friendships are everything. The relationships. The character development. The. Fucking. Spice.

No matter what this journey put me through, I’m here for more. I’m here for everything.

I love Jersey Boy and Triss, I’m going to miss them. They deserve the happiest of endings but I just know we will see them again. Right? RIGHT

I’m so excited for our next journey into the Broken Bounty series!!

Trista and Jersey 🫶🏼 the way they love ❤️‍🔥

I can’t appropriately explain the heart palpitations I had while reading this story. 😅

I cried 😭

I was mad (no Kindles were hurt in the reading of this book) 🤬

I loved every minute of the roller coaster anyway! 🖤

Ember wrapped up this story in the most perfect way. I didn’t want the story to end so I definitely paced myself because good things come to those who wait… Or something like that right?? 🤣

I can’t wait to see what Ember has in store for Memphis 🩶

Anyway… Go read it 💋 you won’t regret it! 💜

So I did not think this series could get better. But did Ember prove me wrong. The trauma healing in this one *chefs kiss*

Jersey struggles with PTSD and there is no sugar coating or fake "I can't hurt you because you are my soulmate". Jersey does not know how to function, does not know how to love Trista with all his broken pieces, it is honest and true and so well written.

Also Utah and Indy are amazing and I can't wait to get their stories and hopefully some much needed revenge on Nate.

"I couldn't help but wonder what it meant for my own sanity that someone referring to Trista as poison only brought up the image of her smile."

"Don't you dare. You break for me and me alone, baby.
Don't do it for them. Don't give in.”

"Survive for me, J. Please."

This book broke me, I don't know why I expected anything else. I cried so many times I didn't bother keeping count. Jersey boy and Trista are just as broken as ever, if not a little more. But they have each other and their crazy version of love. 🖤 You can and will experience any and every emotion imaginable.

The queen of the heathens never fails, she writes characters that you can't help but get attached to and fall in love with. That being said I am so excited to get to know Utah and Memphis a little more. Utah swooped in and I might love the scary teddy bear. There is nothing I love more than a sassy FMC and Trista and Memphis have all the sass. And to close this review I'd like to say again that I love Jersey Boy so much, I'd definitely learn how to talk cars for him. 🖤😈

ME: I have YET to read a book where I needed to take a moment and walk away.

SURVIVE FOR ME: *hold my purse*

To be fair, I did predict this book was going to wreck me. And it did. I have never been so emotionally charged over a story like I did reading Survive For Me. The chaos in the beginning of the book, the fight to save one another, the lust, the pain and heartbreak and mental health struggles….i fell for every moment of it. I was literally going to toss my kindle if Jersey and Trista didn’t get their HEA.

Now that I’ve collected myself back off the floor, I’m so ready for Daddy Utah and Memphis to get their time to shine in book 3!

I’m very bummed about this one. I had a lot of hope that we’d go in a good direction after the cliffhanger in the first book, which also had a ton of potential. However, this one just downright pissed me off. We spend nearly 60% of this book with Jersey being captive and then another 10-20% of it with them ignoring each other. If you’re going to do an enemies to LOVERS book, please give us time to see them as lovers too. I absolutely loathed how he treated Triss in this book even up until the very end, comparing her (not so nicely) to his deceased wife. That overtook so much of the storyline in this book it completely ruined any “lovers” aspect for me. Not to mention the addition of Triss crying ALL the time. Um, why? She wasn’t pregnant….it just felt like she was being pushed to be more like his wife. Over emotional. I get that Triss wasn’t used to being emotional (and this was absolutely due to trauma) and I wanted that for her in a healthy way, but this just felt forced. She cries and cries and it’s constantly mentioned but over weird tiny things? She doesn’t even process her mom dying, it’s completely glazed over, her losing her only other relative who DID help save Jersey. Jersey never tells her what her mom says. It just felt like this whole series Trista and her trauma was put last to him and Memphis.

Everything had been driven by intense hate and banter and connection in the first book. Then they spend the majority of this book apart and he ends up having so many issues he has to deal with in regard to his dead wife. It was incredibly awkward to read and nothing about it made me feel like they loved each other except for the fact that they clearly had good sex. If we had gotten way more time with them in a good place I could’ve seen the chemistry come back, because I DID really like them together (mainly because Triss). What I don’t like is feeling like we hardly got any of that. Trista deserved better. This poor woman who had never been loved or believed or had someone look out for her safety. I hated feeling like she was getting the short end of the stick by being with Jersey because I WANTED him to be good for her. But no, it was literally only good when they had spicy moments.

She did no healing of her own either, she was abused as a child and r*ped by her stepbrother for 13 years. I felt like she just supported and supported Jersey, even after he accidentally tries to kill her, but HER healing is never his priority. Even when he tells her he’d move somewhere to make her happy it’s counteracted with his inner thoughts about how he doesn’t want to leave Memphis and wouldn’t if she didn’t have Utah. Like…ok? Why even say that? That just ruined how special it was that he was willing to do it. It’s all about him and even up until the end of the book he still doesn’t treat Triss the way he should outside of sex in my opinion. Maybe if they were getting a third book I’d feel okay, but according to the ending they aren’t.

I still found his relationship with Memphis weird even if we do see her find her own love interest which I’m very intrigued about. I still hated that he called Triss Fancy Face even though he did switch to baby more often which was better. I still loved Trista. She’s without a doubt the best part of the book series. I came to like Memphis a bit more, but not as much as Utah. He’s a winner for sure. I almost wanted him to be with Triss instead to be honest. Like the Triss whisperer? Helping her through an anxiety attack? Shit like why didn’t we get ANYYYYY of that from Jersey!? I really don’t see what he brought to their relationship at all other than some nice spicy scenes. He was nice to her like a total of one time in two books and it lasted three seconds. That was it.

I’m giving it one star for Triss and one for Utah only. I’m hoping Memphis and Utah’s story is better, I guess, although I think I’ll still be mad about Triss and Jersey’s ending for a while so it’ll be hard to read. I’ll get to it when it comes out I’m sure just to see what happens next but for me it’ll be hard to read Memphis’s story when I really don’t feel like we got a good completed ending with Triss and Jersey.
