Some background first: I love this series and these characters so much. This series came at a point when I really needed something to latch onto, and Lamplight is that. Minor spoilers ahead.

So lets talke Volume 10. With Sara being the focus of Volume 8 so recently I was suprised to see her be the focus of Volume 10 so soon, but with the timeskip and Sara finally finding her footing in Lamplight I came around to it being a good idea. So imagine my shock when Sara actually isn't the main character but Erna! Erna pre timeskip to me was a great supporting character but due to her timid nature she struggled to hold a pressence as the lead in volume 5. Post timeskip Erna though is a completely different character. Shes much more assertive, and skilled allowing her to really take reign of the story.

As for the main plot, Lamplights split up still working towards overthrowing the Lylat Kingdom meaning that Erna is paired primarily with Annette, a pairing that is so much more fleshed out now rather than serve as comic relief. With only three members of Lamplight even being present in this volume we really get a deep dive into these characters and their development post timeskip. Annettes violent and wicked tendacies are on full display as shes no longer concerned with hiding them which causes some heart wrenching discussions between her and Erna about their purpose in Lylat. This is where the heart of the story truly is and I think its a relationship I want to see explored more. The actualy plot with discovering the truth behind a mining accident is relatively will done as the twists are mostly well hidden and set up well with a few exceptions. The villains here though lack quality compared to Serpent in volumes 6-8, but I am hoping with the stakes being amped, so will their pressence.

Now Sara does play a large role in this story despite being relegated to flashbacks mostly. We mostly focus on Sara coming to gripes with the fact that despite reaching the starting line, she still has a whole marathon ahead of her if she wants to be Lamplights guardian. Sara's debates with Klaus this volume were honestly the highlight as she struggles to change his mind to split Lamplight (a debate we know is doomed to fail) Post timeskip Sara though is everything I wanted her to be. Her "hero" moment this volume is legendary and deserves to be in the top 5 scenes in the series.

As for Volume 11, I am very excited as it seems we are following one of the best duos in the series to date, and I cannot wait. 4/5

Nostalgia project arc, mostly about Erna and Annette’s role with Sara as twist tie in.
