Once upon a time, I belonged to a "Cookbook of the Month" club. I amassed quite a collection of cookbooks during that time, including Chocolate Cake by Michele Urvater.
This is one of those books I bought and then never really used. However, I pulled it out this month and made the Fudge Cake with a chocolate sauce to go over it. The recipe was fussier than I'm used to, but the result was divine. Plus, this book has just about everything you could want to know about cake-making -- from what equipment and ingredients to use in the kitchen to how to plate your creation. The only downside is a lack of photos and illustrations.
While I don't have the patience for a lot of baking, this would be a great book for anyone who does.
