All the Fae she had been with were dead.

Scarlet earned her title of Fae Slayer, but despite the amount of bodies in her wake, she has no leads on where to find the Fae king. In the aftermath of the Fae invasion, she has three rules for her survival:

Never negotiate.
Never trust a pretty face.
Never tell anyone how she started the apocalypse.

After one of her hunts, she’s cornered by an assassin hired by the Fae king himself. Voss is a Blood Hunter, and he knows Scarlet opened the Fae door, making her the only human capable of ending the king’s rule. He has a proposition: an alliance to kill the king.

Knowing her identity gives Voss the upper hand, and she has no choice but to accept. With two of her rules broken, can she trust the assassin if it means getting revenge?

I stumbled across this book on Threads and was sold when I read "looking for readers who love romantasy, but want the mmc to be as unhinged as a dark romance mmc."

And y'all, she delivereddd. I finished this in under 2 days and I've already started the next book (thank you for that cliffhanger, Ariel 😤)

The banter and chemistry between Scarlet and Voss was perfect. There are so many things I want to say but I don't want to spoil anything 😫 But I will say - that 'one horse' scene changed my life lmaooo

Also, he calls her "little fox" 🦊 and I love that.

I’m so speechless, I did not expected that plot twist at the end at all!!!

Blood Hunted was a brilliant start to a new trilogy. I’ve never read a book about fae’s before, it was so interesting to learn about them though this book. The magic the characters and this whole journey was fascinating! This book reminded me so much of my all time favorite book The Book of Azrael, I really enjoyed my time reading this story, it was definitely a very special read!

I love these characters so so much and I literally cannot wait for book 2, I need to continue with the series right now!

If you love romance, fantasy and magic then don’t hesitate to pick this book up today! It was an enchanting read!

Thank you so much @good.girls.pr and @radesilets for letting me read an ARC of this amazing novel in exchange for my honest review!

I like the concept in this book a lot. In a fae-caused, post-apolcalyptic world, the most terrifying thing to the incredibly powerful fae is a human on whom their powers of coercion do not work. The very fact that she can tell them no is infuriating to them, and she sleeps with then kills as many fae as she can on her journey to her ultimate goal of killing the king. Then she meets Voss and everything starts to change. The banter between Scarlet and Voss is so entertaining, and the tension as well.

While I guessed some of the bigger plot twists in the book, the entire thing was enjoyable.

My only critique on the writing is that a few words weren't used correctly, or they were close to the correct word, but not quite what was intended. This did not change my overall enjoyment of the story. On to the second book!

I was intrigued from the start.

Scarlett, She's truly a baddass, turning the town red. And I loved it. She was fierce, but she was a great FMC, and it was a lot of fun.

She then encounters Voss, the blood hunter. Voss is hot, sexy, sensual type of guy. He may be planning to murder her, but what he truly wants is an alliance. The connection between them seemed fake, and their banter was okay  and repetitive.

I enjoyed the overall idea of the plot. However, it felt rushed at stages, and aspects of the world-building needed more explanation.

Thank you Good Girls PR and Ariel Rae for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"Run, little fox, run."

If you're looking for a hot mess (in a good way) read with laugh-out-loud banter and a MF ending that will make you want to throw your Kindle - look no further. A fun take on humans + fae with a wickedly stabby FMC.

4.5 why is this series not more well known?! Enemies to lovers, fae slayer/fae assassin. This has all the makings to be the next ACOTAR. I did predict the plot twist early on but it was exactly where I wanted it to go

✨ARC Review✨

I am bumping this to a 3.5 stars for reasons I'll explain throughout this review.

I was truthfully intrigued from the start. I liked the whole premise of "only person who can destroy the king is the one who opened the door".

We first meet Scarlet and she's definitely "not like the other girls". She kills Fae in hopes of gaining intel about the king and for pure revengeful bloodlust. Before she kills them, she sleeps with them. She's honestly a bad b, painting the town red. And I was kind of here for it. She was intense but a FMC that was different and it was really enjoyable.

On her hunt, she meets Voss, the blood hunter, who was hired by the king to take down the Fae slayer aka Scarlet. Voss is naturally this sex driven, I love making you squirm, you will succumb to me, kinda guy. He may be set to kill her but what he really wants is an alliance. Again, I was here for it and still intrigued.

Where things went a little south for me was the chemistry between Voss and Scarlet and the way their romance just...was. I get that this was an "intense, blood thirsty kink" kind of romance BUT I just felt like it could have been executed better. I just felt it was very back and forth and hot and cold how their communication was. It was a lot of "tell me you want me" "no" *and then proceeds to undress for each other. I could never really tell when Scarlet was agreeing or just being complicated. Voss would say he'd back off and she'd say no and then he wouldn't back off. I get they had a safe word but it was confusing, honestly. I just couldn't understand where they were at at times.

I just felt like their chemistry was so forced by Voss. I felt like Scarlet had no other choice but to like him because he would never let it go. It was like she was being brainwashed without being brainwashed. I also thought it was strange how they would just openly talk about how they had sex in front of the friends. Like, we get it...you like to sleep together...now just keep it between you two ESPECIALLY when they're telling you to please stop. They were all just a little too open and honest.

I really did enjoy the plot. I liked that they were both on a mission to kill the king. However, I just felt like certain scenes could have been taken out or written a little better. At times, I felt like I was reading teenagers talking and not adults. Sometime it felt a little fanfic, especially when Voss and Scarlet would get "mushy" with each other. It felt like it would go from zero to one hundred real quick and it didn't fit their personalities if that makes any sense. Moreso for Scarlet.

I want to be clear in stating that this had a solid base and it was good. I just didn't LOVE it. I liked it and it definitely had its moments. I thought the spicy scenes were written well and they were definitely captivating. Maybe we could have used more, idk. I just think it could have been executed better.

I absolutely LOVE how this ended because it wasn't what I expected and I love that. We get a little twisty twist and I actually think that's what this book needed. Because of that twist alone, I would pick up the next book. Again...didn't hate this, just wanted something more!

Thank you Good Girls PR for the ARC copy!

Dystopian+Fairies+Assasins

I assumed this book would be your typical fairy realm type book and boy, was I mistaken. What I was not expecting was for the author to build a bleak, disolete, dystopian society created when the fairies overthrew humanity. This story is from the FMC’s POV; which I am not usually a fan of a singular POV but it worked very well for this story. The FMC as a child opened the portal to the Fairy realm which in turn made her immune to their magic as well as the only person capable of killing them. As an adult, Scarlet, the Fae Slayer has one mission in order to try and restore order to humanity-Kill the Fae King. As her kill count grows in search of information about the king’s whereabouts, Scarlet learns that assassians have been dispatched by the king to deal with her and in order to survive she must team up with one of them and his crew. Voss is everything Scarlet wants to hate but can’t figure out why she can’t bring herself to. There were definetely some dark and spicy moments which I enjoyed but honestly there could have been more! I wish this was a dual POV only because I wanted to know more about Voss. Voss and Scarlet had so much chemistry- I was fanning myself a few times. AND OH MY LORD THE UNSEEN PLOT TWIST AT THE END! I am deceased after reading this until the next book and I know what happens next! This book had the perfect amount of spice, darkness and plot! There were definetely some darker moments which might not be for everyone so check make sure to check TWs.

This book was absolutely amazing.

I’m not going to lie. I did not have the highest hopes for a debut fantasy author. I hold everything to high standards (aka acotar standards). As I kept reading I realized the plot, the world building, the writing was all good… really really good. I suggest this for beginner fantasy readers and regular fantasy readers alike!

It contains facts about Faes that are in most books, but author Ariel Rae puts her own twist on things. The sequencing and descriptions were enticing and the world building was just enough (unlike priory of the orange tree where you get lost after pg 5). The writing though is what sucked me in. Before I knew it I was 200 pgs in!!

The plot was never dull and the PLOT TWIST was AMAZING! I did guess it right in the beginning of the book (there were a lot of clues), but still good nonetheless.

The only reason this got 4 instead of 5, was I thought the spicy was a little too spicy and at times unnecessary. This book was so good it didn’t need all the vulgar details at times, it could stand on its’ own!

I cannot wait to read the next one!!! Ariel please hurry with the sequel!!! Thank you Ariel Rae and Good Girls PR for an advanced copy of this book!

Run, little fox, run

⭐⭐⭐⭐
🌶️🌶️🌶️

Scarlet - the Fae Slayer (she is so giving Buffy vibes) - is on a mission to slay the Fae King and save her world from the invaders, and unfortunately because she was the reason for the apocalypse, she's the only one with the power to do it. She is fierce, vengeful and an absolute unapologetic boss bitch, and there isn't much to dislike about her. Voss on the other hand is your very tall, dark (blonde) and brooding assassin, and just about plays his part perfectly with the out of this world t e n s i o n, suss as hell alliance, and mission to save the world from the vicious Fae.

🔥 Enemies to lovers
👑 Romantasy
🔥 Found Family
👑 Dystopian Setting
🔥 Dark Fantasy
👑 Morally Grey MMC
🔥 Touch them and die

Spoiler:

OK I did not anticipate that ending until I was about 10 minutes off from finishing the book, and o m g. You know I absolutely love a good betrayal-cliffhanger, and I am so looking forward to Voss' redemption arc in book 2 (don't break my heart).

Don't forget -
Never negotiate.
Never trust a pretty face.
Never tell anyone how she started the apocalypse.

Thank you to Good Girl PR and Ariel Rae for this ARC!! SPOILERS AHEAD: Solid 3 stars for me! I love the Romantasy genre, so I was excited to read this ARC! Sometimes, the plot felt rushed, and I think it would have been helpful if there had been more world-building to explain further what was going on (for example, I would have loved to hear some more history behind the Fae coming through the portal and how they took over). I was interested to know more about Scarlet and Voss's individual backstories, but maybe the author will dive into those more in books 2 and 3. Scarlet has been through a lot of trauma, and I think her character would have been more engaging if her interactions were a bit deeper (instead of her always saying "f you, Voss," which is her dialogue multiple times in a row on multiple pages). I did not expect the twist at the end, and it absolutely took me by surprise. If Voss was truly only using Scarlet to overthrow the king, I think he would have killed her after. So, I'm wondering if there is some sort of truth behind the feelings he had. All in all, if you like fae and are looking for SMUT, look no further!! Because this was an easy and enjoyable read, and Scarlet and Voss are very, very horny.

Okay, this is definitely one of the best books I’ve read recently! I literally read this in 24 hours!

Scarlett and Voss were perfection! Their chemistry was amazing! Every scene with the two of them was 🔥. This book had some of all the best tropes: touch her and die, enemies to lovers, mine, one bed, and stabby FMC. Also, the nickname, Little Fox. I’m such a sucker for adorable nicknames!

The world building in this story was amazing! It was quite an interesting take on fae taking over our world. The way they invaded in this story almost reminded me of aliens. It was so interesting!

I saw one part of the ending coming, but there was a second part to it that completely caught me off guard. It has me questioning like everything and I’m very upset I have to wait until December for the next book because I need answers now!

Do yourself a favor and if you like very steamy romantasy books that also have a great plot, get this immediately! You won’t regret it!

Thank you to Good Girl PR and Ariel Rae for giving me an e-ARC of this book for an honest review.

What I loved most about this book was that it got better and better with each chapter. I seriously struggled to put it down because of the constant tension and life or death of it all. I wasn’t planning on it, but if I had stopped reading this halfway through, I would have rated this a 2 or maybe 3 simply because I felt it rushed through too much world building and character development. That being said, I am so glad I kept going because by the end of it all, I was so invested in these characters, the future of this world, the relationships being formed, all of it. The spice was divine, the banter was glorious, the chemistry was hilarious.
Really, my only complaint would be that the FMC was not very creative in her come backs a lot of the time. “F you, Voss.” Was super old by the end of the book… lol But all in all, I loved it and can’t wait for book two!

I really enjoyed this!

I loved our main character. Scarlet is a feisty and strong human assassin who targets powerful members of the fae who have invaded Earth. Even though 'human assassin who hunts the fae' is a character we've seen time and time again, Scarlet did not feel like a copy and paste caricature. Voss was strong MMC, and I also enjoyed our side characters.

This author's writing style is perfectly suited to the fantasy romance genre. The world felt fully fleshed out and the romance development was strong. I guessed the plot twists, but that's on me for being so familiar with this genre lol. The reveals were done very well and this story was perfectly paced.

I highly recommend this if you're looking for a good fantasy romance with a unique world, good spice, and a well done enemies-to-lovers trope. I'm excited to read more from this author!

Good enemies to lovers book.
All in all it was a good book: the story is well paced, maybe a bit slow to introduce the spicy scenes but that's probably me :)
I LOOOVED the FMC, which doesn't happen so often (I'm more of a die-hard for the hot misunderstood villain), but Scarlet is this vengeful human with no power to speak of (except not being affected by fae magic) who is just so fierce! She is on a mission to kill the fae king (honestly any fae she can get he hands on, even the hot ones). If you have read ACOTAR and loved Amren, you will love Scarlet too.
Tropes you will find in this book:
-enemies to lovers
-one-bed inn
- touch her/him and die
-found family
and much more

Go and read it!

Tropes- Reluctant allies to lovers, one bed, one horse, Fae, Assassins, blood bonding, biting, touch her and die, hidden royalty
Thoughts- Scarlet opened the door to the fae world so she is the only one who can kill the Fae king. This book grabbed me by the prologue and didn’t let me go. I wasn’t sure how I would feel from the initial first chapters based on how violent Scarlet is but the book just kept getting better and better. While I did guess the twist about Voss it didn’t affect my enjoyment of it at all. I was completely shocked that he sent her away though. I need to know what happens next!!! That plan was diabolical and I need Voss’s pov.

I had the pleasure of picking this series up from the author at our annual book festival in my state and I'm really happy that I did! While I'm no stranger to romantasy, this was my first real foray into dark romance and I had a good time reading this book. It was violent, stabby, and occasionally over the top (for me). That being said, I enjoyed how unhinged our main characters were and how they were into each other's brand of crazy. I was excited to immediately start the next book. I'm hoping for an expanded cast of characters and more world building to complement the existing relationships and plot because the overall fantasy story here is also quite good - very post-apocalyptical meets dark fairy tale.

This was actually my first fairy realm book and I truly enjoyed it — way more than I thought I would. The atmosphere was gritty 🖤, the characters were complex, and the story felt emotional without being cheesy.

I loved how strong the female lead was — not perfect, not soft, not saved… just raw and fighting to survive.

The tension, the world-building, the banter, the danger — all of it worked so well together. There were moments I was stressed, moments I was smiling, and moments I was just sitting there like… did that really just happen?! 👀

And that CLIFFHANGER…
No warning. 😳

If you like dark fantasy, strong female leads, morally gray men, and stories that leave you shook… this one is for you. 🖤✨

This one had potential but it didn't quite do it for me.

- Fae
- Dystopian
- Dark fantasy
- Found family
- Adventurous

Plot:
Scarlett is the only human left who can unalive the evil fae king. And that is because she was the one to allow them to enter her world. She is on a mission to get revenge for her parents and brother and uses her abilities to seduce fae. She unalives all fae she comes across. Then she meets another Fae who wants to end the tyranny of the Fae king so they join forces.

Things I enjoyed:
The found family trope was fun and I liked the banter between characters.

Things I did not enjoy:
The structure of the new world with the fae controlling humans in that way gave me the ick. It made me think of SA on a mass scale but it was glossed over. And her ability to just say no seemed like a weird way to gain entry to unaliving fae. I feel like it would have made more sense for her to just pretend the magic worked on her and then unalive the fae.

Well shit.

I kind of wanted to throw my kindle in those last couple of pages….i knew what was coming and it still made me mad 😅
I thoroughly enjoyed how much of a total badass Scarlet aka Lola aka….was. She was phenomenal and didn’t need anyone. She opened herself up to Voss anyways and look where that got her…..
Voss, I loved him. Until I didn’t. WTH dude?! Major groveling in his future for sure.
Penn & Elspeth were such great side characters and I really hope that we get more of their backstories in the next books.
I’ll be patiently waiting for book 2 (hopefully we’ll get one soon!!)

This book is a slow burn romance, but the story has a perfect pace to it.

The world building is great and just the right amount.

Scar is a spit fire the entire time! Lucky for her Vos is witty and able to keep up. Their banter is perfect and I like that Scar keeps up her fight!

There is plenty of triggers and steamy spice in this book and it is the 2st in a trilogy. I'll be keeping my eye out for the next part of this story!!

Thank you to Good Girls PR and Ariel Rae for the opportunity to read this book!! My thoughts are my own.

I went back and forth so many times with this book. In the beginning, I found it extremely difficult to decide how I felt about the FMC. She is vicious and violent in a world that had crushed every tender, sweet part of her early on. There were moments when I thought maybe the point was being driven home a little too hard but I am glad I kept going.

By the end, I was sold on the series. Even if I saw part of the twist coming, it still hit beautifully and I am eager to get my hands on book two.

As always, check the TW.

Need book 2!

This was a fantastic read. And if you pay attention as other reviews have mentioned you foresee a twist at the end. However, the delivery and what happens after the twist had me screaming for more! I couldn’t put this book down. The world building and characters had me enthralled in this world. Not just with the MC’s the side characters Penn and Elspeth have personalities all their own. I love Penn. I think he is my favorite of all the characters. December cannot come fast enough! I need book 2 yesterday!

It did take me a little to get into this book, only because I was getting used to the world and the characters, but halfway through I got sucked in and fell in love with both Scarlet and Voss! The spice in this book is good and plentiful 😈

Plot: 5/5 • Smut: 4/5 ——————> This. Was. So. Good. From start to finish, I loved it all. She opens the portal to the Fae world. Fae, with powers, treat humans like garbage and kill them whenever they can. The only one who they can’t control is her, because she’s the one who opened the portal. She makes a deal with the man who’s trying to kill her. This ends on a sad cliffy. I was hoping for a HEA, but i remember this is a series. Smut was good!

I was dragged into this one super quick and I really enjoyed it; a steamy, apocalyptic, almost enemies to lovers tale of a Fae Killer and the Fae Assassin who end up working together.

I would love to continue the trilogy very soon, and hopefully the next books are as good as this one is.
