Prophecy spoken. Alliances broken. Will duty come before love? The Viking's Captive is the exciting sequel to The Viking's Chosen by USA Today Bestseller Quinn Loftis. Torben is faced with a terrible rescue the woman he loves from the clutches of a madman, or save his people from attack by a ruthless foreign invader. He longs to save Allete, especially since the clan's oracle has prophesized that she will become his queen and help unite the clans. But if saving the princess means abandoning his clan, the choice would be unconscionable. Torben races across land and sea on a collision course with Magnus, Allete's kidnapper and Torben's former king. Their meeting will change the fate of Clan Hakon―either saving it from destruction or splintering it forever. Will Torben be able to rescue Allete before Magnus' actions ruin them all? Or will Cathal find the princesses first, enslaving them and using them for his own twisted purposes? Swords will clash and arrows will fly before the fate of Allete and Torben is finally decided.
Hello, Readers. My name is Quinn Loftis and I am lucky enough to call myself a novelist. In 2011, I self-published my first novel, Prince of Wolves with no expectations, other than my friends and family might purchase the book out of pity. Now, several years later, with 30+ novels and counting under my belt, Prince of Wolves had been downloaded over 1 million times. Though I was hesitant at the time to submit my work to the world for their scrutiny, I'm so glad I did. It made my dream of making a living by telling stories a reality.
I'm blessed to share my household my wonderful husband of more than twenty years (who also co-writes with me on occasion), three beautiful sons, a French Bulldog, and an oversized tabby cat. I love hearing from readers, so if you have any questions about the books or my journey, don't hesitate to hit the 'Contact Quinn' in the menu above. Thank you so much for taking a chance on my books.
Q: Apparently, mad men share a similar mindset when it comes to fire, I thought as I stared at the burning mess. (c) Q: “Do we have to use the term vomit in every sentence?” ... “Apparently, we do since you just used it yourself,” (c) Q: I wasn’t sure which was worse, being married to a madman or being stolen by one. For whatever reason, I seemed to have suddenly become a hot commodity to lunatics. ... “Madmen want me,” I said as I groaned ...(c) Q: “You’re so eager to kill someone, little sister.” “If they deserve killing, then yes, I’m happy to oblige.” (c) Q: “Life is nothing but a series of educated gambles. We will have to take our chance when it presents itself.” (c) Q: We were led across the ship, and, as we walked, I understood more fully why it was called a longship. The blasted thing was long. (c) Q: “Allies do not harm one another,” he said. “Fantastic. I mean you no harm. (c) Q: I’m a delight once you get to know me. (c) Q: “So, you lie to yourself on a daily basis?” Hilda asked.I shook my head. “No, I lie to myself on a minute-to-minute basis.” (c) Q: “Can I add weird to your description?” (c) Q: “Damn it all, I don’t want to like you. But then you go and say something brilliant like that, and I nearly beg you to be my mentor. Be gone, demon-tongued woman.” (c) Q: “ACCH! You healed one of his men?” “Don’t sound betrayed, Torben. It’s not like I lifted my petticoat and flashed the man.” (c) Q: “If I never hear another wretched ballad about drinking, sea monsters, or mermaids who lure men to their watery graves, it will be too soon.” ... I never knew men could smell so bad or that I could hate singing with such a passion. I mean, damn it all, who in the bloody hell had taught these men those songs? (c) Q: “Do you know where we are?” I asked Hilda. “Hmm… brown sand resting in front of a thick, impassable forest… yes, of course. I know exactly where we are. “Really?” “No, of course not. I’m a seer, not a cartographer. One beach looks like another.” (c) Q: “So, just to be clear... We’re all just going to kick back and take a nap while dark magic-wielding witches and arrow-notching, unseen warriors surround us?” (c) Q: “I take it subtlety is not his strong suit?”... “Madmen are rarely subtle.” (c) Q: “How many times do we have to establish that Magnus is an idiot?” (c) Q: “You have a gash in your dress where you were stabbed; can’t you just be happy that you’re still alive to someday be with Brant in that way? After you are much, much older and very, very married?” “Can a person be only somewhat married?” (c) Q: “Escaping is definitely Plan A. Unwanted rutting is Plan Z.” “What are the plans from B to Y?” ... “Distraction and avoidance,” (c)
I'll admit, this second book was not as much fun as the first one, but still, it was a pretty enjoyable read! The last few chapters though, they made the whole read worth it! Torben and Allete have such great chemistry, I love them together so much! Cannot wait for the next one!
I can not understand how an author who apparently is some kind of USA Today Bestseller author, is able to deliver such a lousy work.
The aforementioned banter turned already extremely annoying in the first few pages of the second book. It is too immature even for a YA book. It reads forced and is just inappropriate in those situations. Sheltered princesses of a young age are confronted with savage Viking’s, for the first time in their life’s outside of the castle and it seems like they left their brain cells behind as well.
Two days had passed since the two sisters were captured and hold hostage on a ship. Which apparently is outright hell to them, says the author, literally. Bloody hell. They are not bound, they have cots to sleep on, they are not starved or threatened or beaten or raped. And all those two silly girls have to complain about are the smell and the singing of the Viking’s. I only can shake my head due to such stupidity. What a hell that must be. As both sisters learn that the Viking’s are singing out of superstitions, to keep sirens away. Their logical thought process leads them to two conclusions. 1: why are the silly Viking’s then sailing at all? (I can’t even comment such stupidity) 2: how could they believe such none-sense? (Says the one sister who has healing powers, can talk telepathically with her soulmate and there are probably more supernatural powers to discover)
This whole book suffers under the sole focus of forced banters which are not funny at all and the cringeworthy love proclamations which have no end in sight.
We have a Viking warrior on a rescue mission and all he thinks about is how much he loves his bloody soulmate and ways how to butcher his enemy, as well as one whole chapter dedicated to a discussion which woman would be the best mother. This is so far from reality it is ridiculous.
Where the bloody hell is the seriousness and authenticity? The real plot and the real story??
Instead of planing ahead, which route to take, how the enemy thinks and using the soul link to get some intel, being on a serious rescue mission, how to defeat at least 10 times more people than his own party of 6. Our hero seems to have lost all his marbles. We are talking about a second in command, a Viking army general. Riding through enemy territory by horse. It is idiotic. Our “hero” does none of it, the little there is, is actually contributed by other characters.
I probably won’t last much longer.
This is like watching silly teenagers staring in a grown up movie. A bloody disaster. Sprinkled with over dramatic, soul deep love vomit.
And here I thought it can’t get even worse and I was so horribly mistaken.
I am done with this book. Actions and dialogues of the protagonists that doesn’t even make sense, in those situations. I constantly thought, why would he or she do that? How could you talk and talk and banter during this and that situation? What a coincidence? Can’t they talk like normal persons? the list goes on and on and on... It is not even worth 1 star.
So GREAT! I absolutely adore this series. It’s a fun lighthearted read that will keep you thoroughly entertained! I highly recommend this series. I can't wait for book 3. ☺️
I want to say that this book was better than the first but that would be a lie as they are equally outstanding. I was glued to my seat and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. This one picks up where the first one left off and the storytelling is fantastic. I was quickly swept away and lost within this beautiful storyline full of Vikings, princesses, manical jarls and even a very disturbing witch. The characters are strong and work well within the story and I can't wait to learn more about Dayna and Brant as I know their story will also be epic!!

Que livro bom de ler. Torben e Allete são um amorzinho. Tem muita ação no livro. Eu admito que skipp algumas partes. Mas o livro é muito fluido de ler. Amei a Hilda, Dayna, Brant e Thomas.
Conteúdo: beijos, consumação do casamento no último capítulo (achei a descrição poética). Gatilho: luto

The first book showed so much promise, but I found myself increasingly frustrated at the historical inaccuracies. The characters speak modern English with a basic vocabulary and the plot line was entirely predictable. There were no twists, turns or ahas. I waited for the backstabbing promised in the first book and forgave the modern linguistics (and Shakespearean references that would have happened way after this English princess would have supposedly existed) in the hopes the author would deliver. People that read historical fiction enjoy the mindset and purview of the past. This had none of that. They had horses and a longboat and a reference to magic and a name drop of Thor like once. If you want something authentic, look elsewhere.
I initially thought the three books in this series would revolve around all three of the Auvray sisters. Book one ended those notions, but it wasn't a hardship to continue the story of Torben and Allete. This book picks up immediately with the kidnapping of Dayna and Allete. Along with Hilda, they travel with Magnus to where he feels he can seek safety. Escape leads to loss but there is a reunion, retribution, and later a ceremony. The one thing that gave me pause with this book were the colloquialisms used. Honestly, they just didn't seem era or regionally appropriate. I know that some sayings are "as old as time", but... It didn't ruin it but it always jarred me from the story as I'd then sit there and wonder "Would they really have said that?".
DNF I am rating this 1.5 stars (rounded up) b/c I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt as I did not read the first in the series and I am not a YA. As a stand-alone, it is 1 star at the most. I read 50% of this book. Admittedly, the cover drew me in. This book is full of violence, sexual innuendo, suggestions of rape, magic and witchcraft. It lacks curse words. Maybe that's what makes it a YA book. None of this bothers me personally. It is a fantasy novel, so the magic, etc. is in line with the theme. The characters are teens who speak in modern US slang, which seems completely out of place. I don't expect them to speak Norse or Middle English, but the dialogue and narrative made me think the author is either incapable of more mature writing or purposely dumbed down her style, thus insulting the reader's intelligence. This was a bad book. I would not recommend this to YAs.
The sheer number of times I rolled my eyes reading this shit was way too much 👀 All of a sudden everybody in this book wants to be witty person with sarcastic comments. 😒 Even in the most shitty of situations. Most of the book was about very useless story which went nowhere. The MMC decides to go to his clan instead of saving the kidnapped FMC just to find that his clan was anyway destroyed because this dumbass couldn’t catch up to evil king which was very obvious from the start. That whole storyline was completely useless, on the otherside the FMC was casually getting tortured and stabbed in the throat. No biggie. 🤩 while the dumbass MMC was busy making dumbass declarations to his already destroyed clan 🤡
I really love the relationship between Torben and Alette because of the way they fit together so well. And I especially love their banter. I really liked Hilda so I'm so sad and angry that she's gone, but that was something she had seen coming apparently but hadn't told anyone... But I loved that her last willing act was to perform a cloaking spell on Alette to shield her from the evil witch. Unfortunately the witch killed Hilda and took the rest of her magic and used it on Dana. I know that it's implied that she's dead, but I am almost certain she's alive. Maybe she's in a coma or deep sleep. I just really hope Brant will be with her soon because I feel bad for him, especially when Torben and Alette has just gotten married.

I went in thinking this was low level spice [like a 1] and in the spice world maybe it is. I prefer closed door scenes… this got a little spicy a few times. In my opinion the story still would be good without the spice. So because of the spice I’m giving it a lower star rating. If it just had the kissing and fade out [which it sorta kinda does after some detail] I’d give it a 4-4.5 stars for the story. I love the banter and chemistry amongst the main characters making the story fun to read. There are some parts that got me teary eyed too. Overall I give this book a 3.5 stars… No regrets!
Loved this book could not put it down I had to finish it in one sitting... just finished it and am I tears T.T now I have to wait like 9 months for the next one! why cruel world do you like to torture me. I love this series, you are an amazing author and have a loyal fan here for life. Keep up the great work I can’t wait to read more of your books, and discover all the wonderful worlds that you create.
This second installment follows our kidnapped English Princesses and the Viking Oracle on their journey North to a different Clan where they are confronted by a Dark Witch and tormented by their captors. Meanwhile, their Viking loves return to their Clan to start their quest to rescue them, only to find death and destruction caused by the Taran King. It is here we are introduced to Viking Shieldmaidens, lethal female Warriors. There's more, but no spoilers from me!
Overall, I think this one is better than its prequel, simply because the conflict is so much more well thought-out & high-stakes. However, there were some moments of being too “over-explain-y” that took me out of the story. All in all, a great adventure-filled book with very well-written romance & conflict.
Through the bond that Torben and Allete have Torben is aware of all the terrible things Allete, Dayna, and Hilda his mother, have gone through. He himself is saddle sore and fearful of what he will find when he reaches Clan Hakkon. In what condition will he find his people and when will he and Allete be reunited?
Allete and Torben return in part two. The book really focuses on the two characters rather than the four that was initially set up in the first book. The second installment was satisfying, but was more serious and lacked some of the fun elements that book one provided. I hope book three can return some of that spirit from the first.
I remember really liking the 1st book, but it had been so long so I kinda forgot it. This was a typical 2nd book. Lovers are separated, trouble ensues. Left with a 3rd book in the plan, but the main character’s story is probably done and another main lead will probably happen. I like that her books are swearing and graphic-free.
This book start where the first one finish. The separation between our main character, our viking and princess, will make you want to continue reading until the end. Amazing story of love, loyalty, honor, and family will make you love this story.
Wow Poor Allete and Torben what they had to endure at the hands of madman not one but two .The sacrifice of The Oracle Torbens mum and Alletes sister , a crazy witch .Lots of lives lost just left more Questions can’t wait for the next book
