In the heart-stopping series finale from the author of If Looks Could Kill, a new festival queen is crowned, putting her in the crosshairs of a killer.
With a suspect who has confessed to the murder of the Peach Blossom Queen behind bars, the cloud over Paradiso, California, has lifted. Along with everyone else, high school senior and part-time sleuth Hope Hubbard is relieved to move on from the tragedy and flurry of false accusations.
When the new Peach Blossom Queen is announced, the longshot winner realizes that it’s no fun being celebrated by the town when someone you’ve known your whole life is behind bars. Especially when a series of dangerous mishaps have her convinced that the wrong person has been arrested—and she could be the next victim. There’s only one person who can Hope.
For Hope, starting up her investigation again would be a pain—and possibly even deadly. But a plan starts to take shape. A trap is sprung. And who it catches will surprise everyone . . .
I began writing at the age of eight and wrote my way through the lean years before I found success as New York Times' bestselling author with my first novel GARDEN OF LIES. To date I have published 19 novels and a cookbook. Every life experience I've weathered has found its way into my novels in one form or another: bad exes, births, deaths, divorces, romances, and even true crime. My heroines are like me: tough cookies who don't crumble.
My latest novel, Book One of my Gold Creek series, ALL THEY NEED TO KNOW, is the story of a woman fleeing her abusive ex who finds refuge in a small California mountain town, where she's befriended by a group of women who call themselves The Tattooed Ladies and reinvents herself as a police sketch artist. Kyra "draws lines to stop crimes," as they say in the biz, never imagining she'll one day be forced to confront the biggest criminal of all: her ex.
I'm married to former entertainment reporter Sandy Kenyon and the mother of two grown children. We live in Sacramento, California, where we remodeled a 1940's house for which I was the on-site project manager. Fortunately, multi-tasking is my superpower, so I was able to write a book and supervise a home remodel at the same time. The latter is sure to find its way into a future book. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook to see pics of my home remodel and other adventures.
Definitely could have been two books 😂 The person I guessed early on was whodunnit. I feel on the whole there could have been a lot more murder! But perhaps I was spoiled by the epic My Bloody Valentine. On the plus side, Eileen Gouge replied to me on Instagram so my month is complete.
Fitting conclusion to a series that could’ve been stretched to three novels, instead of four. Not a terribly climactic ending and there’s some filler scenes that don’t really propel the plot along any quicker, but still a decent series overall.
OKAY WAITTT I actually really enjoyed this series. The books def could’ve been condensed, especially considering there were four books each around 200 pages, but this book specifically was so good. A lot of the stuff was predictable but when it really came down to it, I enjoyed the twist.
I’m not really sure what was going on with Lacey in the bathroom near the end, and tbh that’s what made me dock it a star. Everything was tied up really nicely and then the added aspect of another attacker just made things a bit confusing.
