Freedom is within reach for Todd and Nick Ruger, but their dreams of Elk’s Ridge are dashed by Vice-Chancellor Raleigh’s troops. With his mate imprisoned, Nick searches for help and finds an unlikely and unexpected ally. But Todd’s release leaves them once again in debt to Chancellor Clarke.
Their mission sends them to the small village of Eldrid in search of a historic record of owners and slaves with unique abilities. Eldrid holds even more secrets from the past—including the origins of sentries—as well as conspiracies of the present that are set to launch a new battle that will turn lover helplessly against lover. Though Todd and Nick know the realities of war are hard lessons, it will be a fight to draw on the strengths of their bond, survive, and learn to forgive.
Oh My Goodness...this was, yet again, another compelling and action packed novel starring our favorite mated sentries, Todd and Nick. With each step in this novel, Todd and Nick get closer and closer to realizing exactly how Sentries came into being, what the cause was for the rise of slavery in their world and just how easily the "special" or "gifted" slaves and their masters could be used to wreak total and complete chaos in the controlling of the government.
Once more, author Elizabeth Noble takes us further into the inner workings of the amazing world she has created in her Sentries Series. In this installment, Collared Souls, we see more and more of the deep bond of love that sustains and saves Todd and Nick from losing their grip on each other's hearts and souls while the world around them threatens at every turn to tear them apart.
Who to trust and where to turn for help becomes an elusive thing as these two young men battle paranormal beings, unscrupulous politicians and even their friends now become suspect in their nightmare chase for freedom from the war that threatens their world.
I love the fact that the world Elizabeth Noble created now four novels ago, remains not only intact but, like the peeling of an onion, reveals more and more layers each time. The author fully immerses you in the life that she has created for her two main characters and simply leaves you breathless as she pushes and pulls them pell mell through one dangerous moment after another.
And all the while, the love and trust between these two grows and blossoms and Todd, in particular, begins to fully realize how much he needs his mate and the high cost of being Nicky's protector.
The only glitch I found in this story was with the reconciling of Nicky and Todd's father, John Ruger. John had such clearly defined hatred for Nicky--blaming him for all the danger that Todd found himself continually thrust into at every turn. The ending of this novel and John's reactions simply did not ring true for me--it was to easy, too forced. But, this point was truly minor in the overall scheme of things.
I loved that book four picked up just minutes from the end of the third book. It was so thrilling to jump right back into the story and know I didn't miss a thing! Other than the obvious reason that I adore this series, I was passionate about this book because it seemed from the description that Nick might have an opportunity here to spread his wings this time around. Nick really needs to get his self-confidence back and, frankly, Todd also needs him to, too.
Todd gets arrested by the nasty vice chancellor and ends up being rescued by Nick, Jimmy, and his dad, of all people. Now Todd and Nick are on a mission for the chancellor looking into the 'special' slaves, like Nick. Unfortunately, for Nick, this mission takes them back to Eldrid, the village where Nick was raised, and where so many of his nightmares come from.
This is where the story went so totally into awesomeness that I, literally, was making my husband mute the TV while I explained the whole story and read him parts as I came across them. It was incredible to get into the history behind the devastation that occurred and destroyed the world on such a global scale and how these early survivors banded together to live. There was also an explanation on how Sentries came to be and why the slave children program began.
So far, I have liked this book the best in the series! We finally have some background as to why the society is the way it is and how things came to be. It would have been nice if this information was clear in earlier books, but I was happy to have it now.
We see more of Nick’s beginnings and we finally see Nick being strong and capable. I was so glad that he was able to flourish a bit more in this book. I really liked him this go around.
While this book is full of more political intrigue, we get a lot of action and answers. There are still questions lingering but I anticipate them being tied up soon. I’m glad to have stuck with the series.
I know I said I would do an overall u dear the bundle one but I have to comment on this one now. It was awesome getting some history on what happened and how the kids came about. Anyway off to the next one.
This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Todd and Nick make a mad dash for freedom when Vice-Chancellor Raleigh’s troops finally capture them, with Todd imprisoned and Nick planning his escape they receiving a helping hand from Chancellor Clarke and are once again in his debt. Reluctantly carrying out a mission that takes them back to Eldrid, they discover a chilling list of slaves and owners that Raleigh is trying to get his hands on. With conspiracies going back far into the past and a trigger that could set lover against lover, Todd and Nick must put a stop to Raleigh’s plans before the tide of war changes, but it will test their bond and love to the limits.
This is an excellent addition to the Sentries series, giving us additional information about the origins of the Sentries, what happened to the world and how the way of life came about. Todd and Nick are as devoted to each other as they have been throughout the series, they may be owner and slave, but they are also mates with Todd encouraging Nick to be his own person. In this story we see how far Nick has come and how he has developed from that shy quite slave we first met in Marked Yours, we also see the deep love that Todd and Nick have for each other. The development of the characters over the series is brilliant, the changes are slow but a natural development of their growth together.
The storyline is well written and plotted out perfectly, as with each book before it, it has its own story but with hints and slivers of plot for the next book to come. Nick and Todd uncover a devious plot by Raleigh, when they are investigating in Eldrid for Clarke, the plot is sinister and must be stopped before Raleigh can put it into motion, but it puts both Nick and Todd in danger. This story sees Nick and Todd delving into history, dodging soldiers, escaping traps, helping injured, gaining allies and never finding the full truth. For those who have just joined the series it is imperative that the books are read in order, otherwise you will never understand the bond between Nick and Todd and you need the other books for the background and a more in-depth understanding of the world they live in.
I will recommend this story to those that love a post-apocalyptic world, paranormal aspects, a strong lovers bond, complex storyline that weaves through the entire series and a happy for now ending.
This is book four in the Sentries series. These books need to be read in order because there is so much going on that you’ll need to know.
We begin book four where we left off with book three. Todd and Nick are trying to escape from the soldiers in New Colorado City. Todd and Nick are Sentries, guardians that protect the general populace from all manner of beasties that most people only know as myth and legend. This time, however, they’re on the run before the government can use them as weapons in a war.
The enemy this time is much closer than the boys know. And it seems that someone has designs to use them in ensuring war.
Elizabeth Noble has created an amazing world, filled with love and passion as well as danger and intrigue. She blends it seamlessly as we see the world through the eyes of the two main characters. Some mysteries will be solved. Others will begin to blossom. Old hatreds will be tempered. And a new home will be found.
All-in-all, this is a great continuation to the epic saga of her Sentries.
I was privilged to be one of Elizabeth's readers for this story, hence having already read it before publication date. Loved this latest addition to the Sentries series. Reading more Nick and Todd is like spending time with old friends. I especially like how, although each book is a complete story, the author unfolds more of the series' storyline with each book.
