This is the first HR book that I read. I am someone who only recently decided to get more serious about pursuing the field, so the best I can say about it is that it gave me solid ideas on how to develop my career. It is well-written, easy to follow, and the stories do a good job of demonstrating the author's points. The interviews are useful as well.
I will say that the book is more geared towards people who are already well on their way up the corporate ladder, rather than towards beginners or people returning to the workforce after an absence. The author also tends to recommend the MBA a lot, even though, in one of her own surveys, only 4 out of 18 HR executives had it, and most of the top executives she interviewed didn't have it (though 2 said they wished they'd gotten it/finished it).
Still, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone looking to build up an HR career.
Interested in a career in Human Resources - this is the best book for you. There's one chapter that I've photocopied about a dozen times for people who have asked me about careers in HR. I highly recommend it.
