The end of court of owls volume.
We learn a whole lot more about the talons and that dick grayson was supposed to be one himself.
All while the court wakes up about 10 other talons ordering them to take back gotham.
Batman came close to dying fighting one talon, i wonder how he will survive ten...

"Some of the ancients believed that the moment of death brought with it Visions.
Not just visions of one's past, or of things known to the dying... But visions of one's self as one truly existed in life..."
"They believed, the ancients, that these final visions often went beyond what was known to the dying man in life... That they constituted Secret Truths about his life, revealed."
"Some truths were comforting... Some were heart-shattering."
"A vision of himself as he truly was.Reflected in the burning eyes of His God"
"But legend has it, if a dying man resists the visions, resists the pull toward truth and journeys back to the land of the living... He may find himself greatly changed upon return"

Shit just got real!

Episode 13: The Talons Strike

After Bruce flatlines, a young girl restarts his heart from jumper cables in a van. He limps away and tells her to leave him alone. He staggers home and Alfred helps him instead. Bruce is terrified of the Talon corpse restrained in the Batcave and tells Alfred to move him to the medical station.
The Court of Owls has awoken on of their Talons, outfitting him with armor and telling him of Batman.

Episode 14: The Talons Strike
Nightwing finds Bruce analyzing the Talons corpse in the Batcave. Bruce reveals that the Talons can't be killed easy and are able to regenerate dead tissue. They can also become Talons without realizing it, having implants between their teeth and needing only a switch to convert them. Bruce reveals the man is William Cobb, Dick's great-grandfather. This angers Dick, believing Bruce is trying to scare him off, but Bruce punches him in the face, dis lodging a molar. One with the ensignia of an owl. Bruce reveals Dick was supposed to be a Talon, that the Hayley Circus presented young performers to the courts for every age and Dick was supposed to be the next one, but Bruce took him in instead. Bruce is troubled by the thought that he never really knew Gotham and that its always belonged to the court.

I was so confused when Bruce punched Dick. Like was that completely necessary??? And then I saw Dick's tooth and I was like "WhAt!? NO WAY!"

Batman #7 – “The Talons Strike”

Batman emerges from the labyrinth — broken but alive. The tone shifts from horror to war preparation. The Court of Owls has declared open season on Gotham, sending their Talons to eliminate their enemies.

We see Bruce’s paranoia, exhaustion, and determination merge into grim resolve. Snyder perfectly balances detective noir and gothic action, while Capullo gives us haunting visuals of Talons descending on Gotham like an army of ghosts.

The issue ends with a promise: The Night of the Owls has begun.

I really love the reds in the panels of an owl preying on a bat. I'm not quite clear if this actually happened in Bruce's past or if it's a vision. I like to think it's a surreal vision. I gasped when Bruce hit Dick. And while it was to accomplish something, that could have been accomplished a better way. It also reminded me of that meme going around of an old-looking panel of Batman hitting Robin, so it doesn't really work.

a slower, more dialogue driven chapter in this court of owls saga. not bad by any means, but the fact that this is the last issue in the volume i’m reading from kind of makes me annoyed. why would they only have the first half of the story? weird. anyway, this issue was great. that huge plot twist was awesome, and i’m glad we got to spend time with nightwing. great stuff, i can’t wait to read more!

Bruce is broken.
The way he treated Dick, that was wounded man. He lost his balance, he feels lost and that's what have him so angry and dark

''some ancients believed that the moment of death brought with it VISIONS visions often went beyond what was known to a dying man in life.
That they constituted secrets of truth about his life, revealed.
Some truths were comforting...some were heart shattering.
Either way, these visions were meant to offer a sense of closure so that he may leave the world in peace, knowing all there was to know about himself
A vision of himself as he truly was reflected in the burning eyes of HiS GOD.
BUT legend has it, if a dying man resists the visions, resists the pull toward truth and journeys back to the living land of the living... He may find himselfGREATLY CHANGED upon return.''

I get these monthly but I'll review the collections as they come.

I wouldn't say there is anything new, exactly, in this version of Batman, but there is something to be said for focusing in on the things that make Batman great. As the story progresses, however, the bottom falls out for Batman and the reader as we find that something new was coming after all. I'm being vague on purpose to not give anything away--although its daft to think I need to review Batman for anyone out there anyway (you already read this or you never will).

3.5 - For an all-talking and no-fighting issue this one was grand - it deepens the mystery of the Court of Owls and connects it to some of the earliest facets of Batman's story.
