I am a longtime publisher and writer of books, music, art and magazines. My most recent books are Priesthood Power–Blessing the Sick and the Afflicted and Rescuing Wayward Children. I have just completed a major 5-book doctrinal series called The Three Pillars of Zion, which was announced August 2009. I have created two Facebook groups called, “Rescuing Wayward Children” and “Three Pillars of Zion–Becoming a Zion Person.”
For nine years, I owned Sonos Music Resources and published the Tabernacle Choir Performance Library, and I was also the owner and publisher of Keepsake Books. Combined, I have published about 600 products for numerous authors, composers and artists. I founded two non-profit organizations: The Latter-day Foundation for the Arts, Education and Humanity (to promote LDS arts), and Gospel Ideals International (to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ on the Internet). My wife, Elizabeth (Buffie), and I have been married for 38 years we have ten children and 15 grandchildren. We live in Orem, Utah. Visit me on Facebook: “Larry Barkdull”
ZION: The Long Road to Sanctification is the sequel to ZION: Seeking the City of Enoch, and it shows. Larry Barkdull's ZION series is a treatise on the Biblical city of Enoch and the spiritual lessons we can learn from studying it, disguised as a fictional narrative. The first book started out sounding a bit stilted and awkward, but improved as the story unfolded. In this second book in the ZION series (which was originally projected to be a 4-book series, but only two novels were completed), Barkdull hits his stride as a storyteller. Also, the philosophical discussions of the nature of Zion and humankind's relation to God are fuller and meatier. In short, when reading Seeking the City of Enoch, there were parts where I had to push myself to keep reading, but I had no such difficulty staying interested in The Long Road to Sanctification and was sorry to get to the end.
I enjoyed reading this book because it reminded me of an often forgotten desire for wanting a Zion life. The need to remedy a rather rough experience with a family member was brought to mind many times, & I think I finally have the courage to fix it. I'm grateful that the power of a story can sometimes help me along in my own life. Reading about the peace experienced in this book makes me crave it as well. This was just a refreshing book to read.
This book was one of the most intriguing books I have ever read. Although it is fiction, it is based on the scriptures and what is known about that time. The detail about their way of life was fascinating to me.
