❄️This book is like reading The Wilderness Family. Caught in a huge snowstorm, a family does the best it can to not only cope, but to survive.
🪵🔥 It’s all there: building fires to keep away the cold; food issues; relationship issues; looking for shelter; working together; even praying together.
In this book, the story has great potential from what I've seen! I loved the written foreword and will give five stars in advance! I'm sure I'll keep them and today I started reading this book! Good luck to the author!
Update: I maintain my five stars for this story. If I were to be a member of a jury I would nominate this book in the bestseller category. I totally recommend it!
A fantastic book a true story of the author and his family I loved it Great write ✍️ Congratulations to the author himself I would recommend this book 📖 an easy entertaining read
Author David Miller has accounted a mishappening in his life that taught him many things but most of all it fortified his and his family's belief in God. The book details the progression of things days before the accident. It also gives a glimpse of their life and how their past has shaped them. The narrative is simplistic and is written with religious passion. There are versus from the Bible at the end of every chapter marking its relevance.
I connected with their journey as I have lived in Texas for ten years. I had already moved to Nashville by the time the storm this story is about happened, though. I do remember watching its extent on the news. David's family survived miraculously despite the financial and emotional setbacks. Coming out alive and having learned from that experience has only made them stronger and wiser.
Wow! For all the troubles this family had to endure, it was inspiring how well they worked together. I found some things to be a bit humorous like the husband getting scolded by the wife when he wanted to warm his cold legs against her warm ones. It is a great story to read! I enjoyed how positive their attitudes were throughout their ordeal. How awesome to see God's hand involved throughout the story. I truly believe when someone sees things happening in slow motion, an angel of God is working on their behalf. Such a great testimony to share! Loved the story!
David Miller's storytelling is both heartwarming and inspirational, reminding us that even in the face of life's most daunting trials, there is always hope. This book serves as a comforting reminder that we should be thankful, even when our prayers seem unanswered or ignored.
"Our OK Angels" is a book that will not only entertain readers with a thrilling travel adventure but also offer solace and encouragement to those going through their own hardships and tests of faith. It's a touching and deeply moving story that highlights the best of humanity's compassion and the enduring power of faith. David Miller's heartfelt narrative is a must-read for anyone seeking inspiration and hope in the face of life's challenges.
There are two sides to this work. On the surface, it pertains to the genre of contemporary travelogue. In that sense, it is an action-packed, fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled comedy of errors in which the protagonist emerges from a near-death experience only to struggle with the burden of his own responsibility in the shadow of the strength and generosity of his guardian angels. These supporting characters are cleanly and crisply defined, and the plot is largely driven by their reactions to the events described.
Reading between the lines, the work serves as a meditation on humility that advances at a much slower pace. On one hand, it evidences our will to understand the infinitesimally small probability of still being alive, not just under the narrative circumstances, but also in the broader scheme of life's fragile nature. On the other hand, it analyzes the resilience that ensures this survivorship, despite the incongruent conduct that manifests in a state of shock.
With its dry, honest wit, the awe-inspiring tale spun here describes the kindness of strangers as an antidote to hubris and a silver lining to the devastating power of nature.
As a new resident to the DFW area, all I can do is laugh at the accuracy of how they handle anything from a dusting of snow to a little ice. Being from the NE and used to heavier snow, doesn’t mean it is something I would ever be comfortable driving in. Just reading about the family driving on winding roads in the deep snow is enough to make me shiver in fear. They were extremely lucky to have crossed paths with so many willing to help not only get them to safety, but provide them a place to stay and food to eat. Their nature retreat really was one unexpected vacation that they all didn’t realize they needed and were lucky to still have thanks to their angels.
“Our OK Angels” By David Miller Review By Brett Salter
Opening Line: “Being the father of daughters did not come naturally to me; I had two sons when I was young."
Favorite Lines: “I could hear my people above the stairs and porch begin making their way outside but was unable to see them; my attention was pulled to Matt's truck as I noticed his young wife lower the door to their covered truck bed. It made a squeaky clank as it fell to its lowered position. Simultaneously, children began popping from the back seats both sides - two girls and three boys. How had they all fit back there?"
The Review: “Our OK Angels" is a standalone book by indie author David Miller that follows David and his family (The Miller Four and their two dogs) as they outlast Snowmageddon of 2021 with the help of some kind-hearted strangers. Traveling back from a Valentine's Day Weekend getaway, they wreck their Subaru in Oklahoma and have to rely on the kindness of strangers to wait out winter storm Uri.
You may have heard the old adage, "everyone has a story to tell". Well, not only am I a huge subscriber of that, but I have also followed that by writing a series of my own. However, with David Miller's "Our OK Angels", you really get to bite into that statement. David has a story to tell. one that moved him. one that left such a lasting imprint on his life that he needed to get it out of his memories and into the lives of willing readers. And that is both as admirable and as vulnerable as a storyteller can be. In this memoir, David not only tells his story intricately and professionally but also shows his ability to let the reader into his private thoughts and faith. A faith in the Lord and a faith in humanity.
I'd like to talk about a couple of things that really jumped out to me when I read this Kindle version, starting with the characters. Now, I am not quite sure if the names of these characters have been changed, but I bet David did so. He even mentions in the first chapter that he has taken some small liberties with the story, although I feel like he has remained as true to the tale as he felt he needed to. David's family consists of his two daughters (Katie and Sarah-Livy), his wife Miranda, and their two dogs. With a car packed with so many souls, the danger is real from the onset when they wreck their car. luckily, no one is injured, but they are stranded in the cold with very little to rely on for warmth or food. Enter in the cast of characters that help David and his family throughout the next few days. Courtney arrives first to assist them with the locals. And then Patrick comes to the rescue by finding them a cabin to stay in. I don't want to just tell you the plot here, but let's just say that Patrick is about the kindest person you will find anywhere. He not only provides them accommodations but also follows up with them multiple times assisting in the new emergencies they find themselves in. Patrick and his wife are truly dubbed angels in this story, and when you read the pages, it's easy to see why. People like that are few and far between these days.
I also want to talk about the way David uses bible verses to mirror the plot of each chapter. He closes out each chapter with a biblical verse which, in one way or another embodies something in particular about the preceding chapter. It could be something about how characters interact with each other, a quick moral from The Word that David and his family may have felt at the time, or even a reminder of how to keep warm when the thermostat goes out (lol). I found myself using these as reflections after I finished each chapter. I would take in the verse and immediately see how it applied to the words I had just read. It was classy and masterful, and a nice detail I really appreciated being included. Thank you, David!
Lastly, I felt that there was more to this book than just a cautionary memoir about a family who needed to depend on the kindness of strangers. The text touches on themes of humility, thankfulness, and understanding that act as a nice allegory for the stories in The Bible. I wonder, in fact, if some of these characters are intentionally placed to reflect specific characters from The Bible. I don't recall a plumber with a clown-car style, expansive family, or a patient, Diesel-driving policeman with a heart of gold, but I bet if I re-read this story, I can possibly find the connections the author may have intended. Anyway you cut it, the story is meant to show God's plan and care for his flock by sending helpers in the face of wolves.
One Last Thing: I like to add this "one last thing" section as an insight into how weird I am when I read books. So, the author's wife, Miranda, has an ailment that afflicts a lot of people in the world. she is not the best when it comes to navigating gravity. In this novel, she falls on wooden floors three separate times, and I just found it kind of funny. Each time David mentioned the fluffy socks that she liked so much and that was basically the reason she kept falling, I was like, "Oh no! She's gonna fall again!" And sure enough, it would happen. It was pretty funny and kept me giggling. Also, I wanted to point out one thing I found that the author may want to fix. I know he may have changed some of the names, but the title of chapter 13 mentions Gary, the wisest of the Angels, but then the text goes on to talk about Gene. Not sure which name he meant to use, but I found it fun to contemplate which one was right and which other names were fabricated.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a fast-read and insightful look into a truly touched heart. The author has a professional writing style, a quality vocabulary, and a knack for interesting narratives. There is a succinct and distinct arc to the story that is easy to follow and rewarding to finish. Christian themes and concepts are present, but in no way distracting. If you, like me, enjoy Christian writing, then you will be pleasantly filled while following along with the Millers' plight.
Final verdict: 4.7 flipped over frozen Foresters out of 5
I loved the message that the author had for this book. Material was well written and easily understood. I don’t think about this book. But I did enjoy reading the story.
“God will not always stop bad things from happening to you; He will not always block suffering and pain. But He will always be right there with us when we must go thru those trials and tribulations. Those are the opportunities we have, to get closer to Him.”
For those who need reminded. 💗
On Kindle Unlimited, David Miller new author you should check him out. He needs more reviews :)
This book was quaint and thoughtful. Our lives can be ordinary, and simple decisions we think our uneventful can impact us greatly. But through our decisions, David demonstrates that God's love is not grandiose, but rather He shows it with small gestures and common people. Throughout this book, regular people came to the family's aid out of common decency. David and his family acurrately acknowledged that these people, and their generosity and kindness, were God's hand at work.
This book taught me that no matter whatever the situation, just put your faith and trust your God, and he will protect us from whatever situation we are facing. Mr David Miller wrote this book from his situations and the problems he faced and how God protected him and their family 😊. Thank you, sir, for recommending this book.😇
This is a mostly true story (the author admits to taking some artistic license) of a family who receives the generosity of strangers after a severe winter storm causes them to have a car accident on their way home from vacation.
In this digital age, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that the strangers around us are other human beings. We forget that inside each individual is a potential to do great good when great good is needed most. We forget that, in fact, nobody makes perfect choices and sometimes it is all too easy to judge rather than help. This is a story of people who chose to help rather than judge.
I’m not a particularly religious person but I do have a sense of spirituality. I do think there is great value in finding some kind of faith or, at the very least understanding the faith of others. I see the interactions of others, their desire to help, or to soothe or to simply smile when needed or helpful to be an interesting feature of humanity. We connect. We thrive in that connectivity. Helping others in need is a way of connecting, a way of ensuring the whole human race doesn’t fall apart from a lack of empathy or caring.
I think most people will come to one conclusion, there is more connecting us than our senses can discern. Some call this connection God. Others might have a different name. It doesn’t matter much what we call it so long as we acknowledge it exists. And I think that by both acknowledging its existence and meditating on the ways in which it can keep us connected in helpful and meaningful ways, we can strengthen whatever it is that creates this force between us.
When we stray from this notion, or forget it, or worse, dismiss it, I think we probably do harm to ourselves and our society. We become disconnected from humanity. We begin to demand respect without first offering it. We begin to expect help when we’ve made no thought on how we might be able to help others.
I’ve studied religion and I’ve studied science and there is space between them that desperately needs to be explored. This world has many problems. Not all of the world’s problems can be solved or even should be solved. Not everybody will be helped. Not every problem will be resolved by this connecting force. But it is a certainty that suffering is often alleviated by it.
In the world we live in today, it seems all we sometimes see are the terrible things happening around us. In “Our OK Angels,” we see how challenging things can be turned into positive ones with faith, the love of family and the kindness and helping hands of others. We could use more of this.
I enjoyed this book and found it inspiring. The story was interesting, the characters relatable, and the “message” positive. I recommend this uplighting read.
"Our OK Angels," by David Miller, is truly an inspirational book.
Life has a way of throwing us curve balls and that makes life sometimes hard to live. I think Miller does a terrific job of showing how life can be this way, but also shows how through great adversity you can gain closeness with others. You can see angels everywhere instead of demons. Yes, what people go through can be difficult, but what happens because of it can be rewarding.
The only thing that is greater than turning a tragedy into a beautiful story is having an author showing how passionate they are about their family. Through the story, you really get to know the family members, the newly found friends, and the four-legged friends so much that you care what happens to each and every one of them. I was so sorry that they had been through what they had been, but so relieved that it turned out for the best.
I highly recommend the book for anyone who loved triumphing over adversity, for those who lost their faith and want something to help gain it back, or even just an uplifting read.
This is an Inspirational story of faith, family and love. the kindness of strangers met with the love and inherent kindness of the Family brings about the inspiring events following disaster.
If you want to to have your opinion of humanity to rise, if joy, peace and kindness are important to you then this is the story for you and your family.
This was a feel-good book; I love when after reading a book it makes you step back and evaluate your life and what you believe in. Already a Christian I was impressed by the values and thoughtfulness that were put into writing this story. I would recommend this read!
Thanks to David Miller for reaching out to me and asking me to review his book. I love it when authors ask for my opinion. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. It's about learning how quickly your life can change in a blink of an eye. This is a story about a Texas family who get trapped in a snowstorm in unfamiliar territory. Some good people from Oklahoma stopped and helped this family through it all. Giving them everything they needed to survive.
Anyone can be nice and giving through easy times. It's when the hardships happen that shows the real strength and faith of humanity. This book is a spiritual journey and a testament of faith in God. This is an excellent book, very well written and grabs your heart and won't let go. David Miller is an excellent writer, thank you for this book. I highly recommend it to everyone.
This compelling memoir recounts a family's journey before and during Snowmageddon 2021, highlighting faith amid adversity. Through a totaled car, divine intervention, and strangers embodying God's love, the narrative emphasizes gratitude during personal struggles. A touching read for those facing hardships, offering both a travel adventure and solace for the soul.
This is the first book that I have read of its genre. It is a great read for someone who enjoys reading Christian book. The author of Our OK Angels takes reader through very personal emotions and experience, and make a strong case for the enormous power of goodness we all carry within ourself to help others in their hours of needs. After reading the book, the readers will appreciate having their loved ones around as a blessing.
I came across this book perchance the author recommended this. And what a lovely recommendation. This is an original of the author's family in snow filled surroundings. Its quite spiritual and has a lot of potential. I would wait for any other books Mr. David drops. And once again a wonderful ride. Happy journeys and happy new year
Our Ok Angels, written by David Miller, is a touching story about his family and a fabulous idea that goes badly. However, the family’s love and respect for each other, their unshakable faith, and a few amazing people who come to their aid all work together to overcome the situation the family is thrown into.
This is a personal journey that builds character and reminds us how precious family is. It also reminds us to put a lot of thought into major decisions involving the family. I recommend this book for teenagers and adults. –Pat Spencer, author of Golden Boxty in the Frypan and Story of a Stolen Girl.
I didn't know what to expect going into this book but by the end of it, I was floored. I can't imagine how the family felt throughout their ordeal but this story is awe-inspiring. This story is a testament to Most High's mercy and grace. Letting us know that we may not feel him at times, but he's always right there. From the time the Miller family left their home until the journey back, my eyes were glued to the page. Highly recommended read!
I just finished Our OK Angels by David Miller, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. This book tells the real-life experiences of David and his family during the unfortunate event of the intense snowstorm Uri in 2021. Having experienced Uri myself, I can testify to the heightened level of anxiety and feeling like your necessities, like heat and water, are put into jeopardy. That said, David tells his first-hand account with humor and witty observations that quickly dissolve much of your worry for the family. David and his family went through not only the snowstorm but also a car wreck; through it all, they counted their blessings and said their prayers to God. And, of course, these Oklahoma angels are wise and compassionate during the family’s struggles. I highly recommend this book.
What an amazing read and journey, I immediately felt captivated by the authors writing style and story line. It’s not often I put a book down eagerly waiting for the next time to pick it up. I strongly recommend this read! Bravo!
David Miller tells a heart-warming story about his family’s vacation. They standfast in God’s trust and grow spiritually as a family while enduring hardships throughout a long bitter snowstorm.
Thank you to David Miller for personally reaching out and asking me to review his book, "Our OK Angels." I received this book two and a half hours ago and could not put it down.
This book is a journey of faith from start to finish. It recounts a family's struggle during the 2021 snowmaggedon, focusing on their survival, spiritual development, and the unexpected kindness of strangers. David Miller's story is a mix of adventure and encouragement for anyone facing similar trials.
It becomes clear through this book that life's toughest storms, both in the literal and figurative sense, provide chances for deep spiritual revelation and growth. It shows that even in the bleakest times, the warmth of human kindness, often coming from surprising places, can bring light, reinforcing the connectedness of our human experiences and the strength found in selflessness. This faith-centered narrative powerfully reminds us that our most difficult times can surprisingly transform into moments where we cultivate gratitude, resilience, and a richer understanding of faith.
Although I am no longer a practicing Christian, I still believe in God and find this book worth reading for anyone. Thank you for sharing your testimony, David Miller.
"It is easy to become closer through smooth, non-challenging times; but that does not really indicate the true strength or depth of your family bond. Times of adversity and loss, times of pressure and hardships where you huddle close or have to stand back-to-back are true moments of growth."
Our OK Angels is an engaging and touching tale of survival and faith. After surviving a horrific car crash in a raging snowstorm, a family discovers how angels can miraculously appear in our lives when we most need them.
David and Miranda Miller's anniversary weekend trip to a mountain resort takes an unexpected and dangerous turn. Little do they know, a severe winter storm named Uri would unleash its fury and wreak unexpected havoc on their lives.
David and Miranda, their daughters Katie and Sarah, and their two dogs head off on a wonderful Valentine's weekend to Oden, Arkansas. From the family introductions to the SUV sliding off the slippery road and crashing into a ravine, the story flowed. David describes in great detail the many adversities the family faced. "There is so much in our lives we truly have limited control over. We comfort ourselves in the illusion of control." While stranded in the middle of nowhere in a snow storm with no cell coverage, Courtney Newson, a local farmer appears, bringing food and offering shelter. As David reflects, "God sent a loving angel to watch over us." And she was just one of the many angels who helped the Millers, stranded in the severe winter storm of February, 2021.
Our OK Angels is a touching story of faith and survival and how angels can suddenly appear in our lives when we most need them. The family's story is heartwarming as David recognizes the most important aspect of their survival. The family formed a lasting bond and a renewal of faith, one they will never forget.
