Goes through the various senses with basic instruction and side facts such as the fact that a night's sleep can help keep your senses sharp; that kids can smell more things than grown-ups; and that earwax while it might seem gross it helps your ears and catches germs and dirt. Talks about the various parts of our sensory organs for instance it discuss the iris, pupil and that inside our head is the optic nerve. For ears it mentions that this part is just meant to catch sounds, it does punt the inside parts by just saying that "your ear has many other parts inside that you can't see. These parts turn noises into signals your brain can understand." Instead of going through the three little bones in the ear. The story also goes over the fact that their doctors that tend to your senses like ENT (Ears, nose, and throat doctors) ophthalmologist for eyes and dermatologist for skin. Finally goes over ways you can protect your senses like wearing earplugs around loud noises or goggles and sunglasses to protect your eyes.

Summary: This is a fun picture book that introduces the five senses any person can have. Taste, smell, sight, touch, and sight. This book helps teach kids where the senses can be located and how you can tell which sense is being used. Not only does it show how the sense can be used for fun but used to help know when things are dangerous or not.

Personal Thoughts: I liked this book because it introduces something so simple in a fun and interesting way. I remember in class learning about the five senses and how the way my teacher taught it was boring but if it was taught about it by reading this book or my teacher reading this book to me I would have had more fun learning.

How I Will Use: This is a great book for a science teacher to use when teaching young children about the senses. It is fun and has pictures to fit what you are learning about. It is also just a fun book for kids to read everyday if they want to learn something new about themselves and the human body.

I loved this book because it incorporated some situations about the different senses. The book does such a great job of capturing attention and finding new ways to teach us about our senses. I would use this book at the beginning of the year to teach the students about where the different senses are located and how they are used. This would be a great introduction to a since lesson about the senses.

1. Look, Listen, Taste, Touch, and Smell: Learning about Your Five Senses by Pamela Hill Nettleton
2. Awards: None
3. Genre: Nonfiction
4. Setting: An introduction to the five senses and the organs that perform the functions of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.
5. This is a good first book for learning about the five senses. I would suggest and use this book with a prekindergarten classroom. I would read this book to the class for initial exposure to the five senses. We could do a quick lesson about where our five sense are located and how they function.

This is such a cool book! If you are looking to find a book that is both easy for students to understand and has info about your senses this is perfect. The first page shows friends roasting marshmallows and explains how one's senses are being used: hearing the crackle of flame, smelling the smoke, feeling the warmth, seeing the marshmallow change color and tasting the roasted marshmallow. This is the hook for exploring the five senses and it works well!

Great beginner book about the 5 senses. My 6 year old could have liked a little more depth, but my 2 and 4 year olds enjoyed it.
