Love at the Border: An Adoption Adventure

Rate this book
On Sunday, Priscilla was a seven-year-old orphan living in Mexico. On Monday, she found herself in suburban Philadelphia beginning a new life. Instead of a happy ending, Priscilla cried and pleaded in Spanish to return to the woman who raised her.

Love at the Border provides a rare look into the international adoption of an older child and speaks to all blended families as mother and daughter endeavor to bridge two worlds. This true story of love, loss, trust, and survival is a powerful testament to family and our need to belong. Women on both sides of the border – and ultimately Priscilla herself – must discover the key to her past that will provide a future full of the love she wants and deserves.

Clear your schedule before you start reading "Love at the Border" as you will not want to put it down.

This is a beautiful testament to the love, strength and determination of Anna Maria and the Didio family.
So many walls, so many struggles and yet you all did it anyway, choosing the road less traveled.
Each family member played an amazing role in the creation of this story .
Priscilla touched my heart. What bravery for a little girl to leave all that she knew, but what a gift to be chosen by the Didios.
Your strength, honesty and love in living and telling your story will be a help and inspiration to many.

What can I say about Ms. DiDio’s chronicle of her real-life experience of adopting a young child from Mexico? It presents a narrative about something I never understood before and in fact never even thought much about before: that adoption, especially of a child from another culture or nationality, can be no bed of roses but with persistence and love can grow to become one of truly heartwarming proportions. Ms. DiDio’s story is absorbing, poignant, and yes, inspirational too.

Anyone considering adoption and especially an international or intercultural adoption should read this book. A taste for you in the last three sentences of the book: “Today the world is a different place than when we first crossed the border. Her love for us has approached the border so many times that I have lost count. My hope for Priscilla is that in re-discovering and understanding the love of the past, she will find the key to her future and the love she wants and deserves.’’

I was glad I read this book and I think you will be too.

In reading this book, I experienced it in a way that I've experienced no other book. That is due to the fact that I know the author and her husband personally. I honestly don't know how that affected my response to the book, but I expect that it amplified all of it in positive ways.

I very much enjoyed the way that Anna Maria depicted each of the scenes along their journey. I really felt as if I was in the room watching, the detail was that vivid. This made the book a joy to read, though the challenges that Anna Maria and Richard faced were heart-breaking at times.
