If you like Mark Dawson, Steven Leather, Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne and Lee Child's Jack Reacher, you will love this heart-stopping thriller. A former Special Forces soldier and Government Agent is pursued by ruthless and violent operatives. Jack Kane is a man on the run... a secret agency wants him dead... and his family are in the firing line. A violent encounter forces Kane to emerge from a life in hiding, where he had hoped his wife and children would be safe. He must go on the run and fight for the lives of those he holds most dear. The forces out to kill him are skilled, well-armed, and are his former colleagues in the Mjolnir Agency, a black-ops shadow section of MI6. Kane is pursued by savage gangland members and vicious assassins. Can he survive and save his family in his fast paced adventure packed with action, twists, and unforgettable characters?
The novel started with a very strange style and the language didn’t flow well. It then degenerated into a seemingly endless sequence of fights and shootings described in gory detail. I’m used to novels where heroes have amazing self-preservation skills, but this sadly extends the odds to a ridiculous level. No I didn’t enjoy the experience. Why did I finish it? I really don’t know.
This is everything that you want from an Action Thriller. Jack Kane is a ruthless Killing machine, trained in the SAS and then in a special ops group he has no qualms when it comes down to kill or be killed. Jack has been living a quiet life with his wife and children after being released from his duties by a man that he trusted. He gave evidence of his black ops missions in exchange for his retirement and he and his family were given new names and a chance to live in peace. What he didn't know was that if his identity ever flashed up in certain places then he would be hunted down and killed. He did just that when he saw a woman that he worked with being assaulted by four men and he stepped in to save her and left all of the ruffians in a bad state, when questioned by police his ID flagged up in the wrong place and the hunt for Jack Kane began. Suddenly his quiet life was no more and not only was his mortality in danger but also that of his wife and children. A fast paced and page turning, exciting and gut busting read which I highly recommend to readers of this genre, I really look forward to reading more about Jack Kane, an excellent 5/5. I have discovered that Dan Stone also writes historical fiction about Vikings, a genre that I am also passionate about, under his real name Peter Gibbons and so I will be searching, with relish, for those too.
A good fast moving thriller that has Kane through an act of kindness to a fellow employee uncovering his hidden identity to a secret government agency for which he once worked for sending agents out to kill him. In process of the operation to kill Kane his wife also in witness protection is killed and the two children kidnapped. With the help of a police officer initially unsure of his actions they embark on a rescue mission to recover his children and during so meet ferocious encounters in their eventual successful outcome.
In the crucible of conflict, a lone man stands resolute, fighting not for glory but for survival. Driven by an unwavering desire for peace, he finds himself ensnared in a brutal struggle where violence becomes his only language. Desperate to shield his loved ones from harm, he extends a compassionate hand to a vulnerable girl in distress. Yet, in a cruel twist of fate, he watches helplessly as everything he cherishes is ruthlessly torn away, leaving only the bitter ashes of loss and shattered hope.
This book is one heck of a wild ride. You absolutely can’t blame Kane for going after the people that harmed his family and a great book. You must read it you will root for Kane to save his family. It’s a quick read and there’s lots of good people in the story and it’s a sad thing. There are such evil people in the world as were in this book they really do exist and very soon they all need to be gotten rid of. You will enjoy the book
Its an adrenaline read with limited character information- ideal for me!
"The world was a cruel and dangerous place, and it needed dogs like Kane to protect the sheep from the wolves. He pondered that as the car raced north. What if there was a way to find and punish the evil men and help people who needed it most?"
What an amazing read right from the beginning to the end. It had everything in it to make me keep turning the pages quickly to see what would happen next. It did not disappoint. Unfortunately, the repeated swearing was an off put however the storyline more than made up for it. One star deducted because of it. Overall, the hero and his side kick won’t the day 😊
Wel written, full of suspense and action. With a twist in the tale around every corner. Just as you think you know where the story is going to, Dan Stone delivers another sucker unch that sends the story I a totally different direction. Well done.
Jack Cane was a British Paratrooper, SAS, then secret agent. Unknowingly, he played right into the hands of a powerful enemy he one trusted. Looking forward to the next book.
This is a really strong way to start a series. The reader is slingshot into action that never lets up. Very minor quibbles with villain “monologuing” in the middle of a battle, but otherwise an enjoyable ride.
First time reading this author's works. Fantastic storyline with amazing characters resulting in a very dramatic thriller. Once you start this adventure, you will find yourself unable to stop reading until the very end.
This character is too overblown to be realistic and survive all of the attacks. The plot itself was OK but not unique and so as it unfolded it was predictable. This turned me off of reading the next book in the series.
I really enjoyed reading this book I think this is going to be a great series Dan Stone you did a good job with this first book and I know the rest will be just as good!
A book full of action with a lead character that you like from the start
The book got my attention immediately based on the plot, the Mai and support characters. There are a few twists that you don’t see until they happen. Great book
This was not an easy choice for a rating. There were things I liked about this book. I did think it could be100 less pages and get the same message. It felt like the detailed descriptions of the fighting was filler.
One man, full of anger, against a small army of trained killers. His anger, makes him the motivated, desperate bringer of death to those that have his family. Recommended!
