Bound Together

Seventeen-year-old Zoey needs an escape from some personal drama, like her mom’s depression and taking care of her four younger siblings. She finds the perfect distraction in a frenemies-with-benefits arrangement with irritatingly hot football captain, Matt, during their class trip to Paris. There’s no chance of falling for someone whose only ambition in life is to stay in their hick town and one day take over his parent’s tire store. But far from home and personal responsibilities, his cocky grin and easy attitude start to grow on her as they explore the seductive city of Paris together. Once they’re back at home, Zoey finds herself texting him for a secret rendezvous whenever she needs an escape. Though she’s been explicitly clear she’s using him for one thing, whenever Matt picks her up, he acts more like it’s a date-date rather than a backseat playdate –making sure she has eaten, or stopping to color with her little sister before they go out. Despite her best efforts at keeping their arrangement physical only, Zoey begins to realize – with fear and disgust – that she’s falling for him. When things fall apart with her mom, letting Matt see her real life takes more courage than she has – but if she’s brave enough to let him, he might be just the one person who can help. Bound Together is a contemporary young adult romance told in alternating chapters from Zoey and Matt’s points of view.

Review posted on Ja čitam, a ti?

Before I start gushing about this novel I have to warn you about one thing. Do not read blurb on Goodreads. It reveals too much. Just pick up the book and read.

My secret wish is to go to Paris one day. Why secret? Well, I usualy go around dissing Paris and being annoyed with all the stereotypes, but deep down - I'm one big sucker for everything French. (My latest obsession would be Kingsley Edge from The Original Sinners series.) But you won't hold that agaist me. I hope.

There are few things that could make you think this is just another typical young adult story. Football capitan and unpopular girl, trip to the most romantic city on the world, family drama... Sometimes typical stuff can be used in interesting ways. Bound Together is proof for that. It balances on that delicate line between realistic and stereotypical.

Zoey is not fragile girl, she doesn't think about fitting in and she takes what she wants. Same thing goes for Matt. Put those two together and you get fireworks. There are few hot scenes, really hot scenes, but they are not far from real life.

I hope that you are going to find Bound Together - suport inde autors.

This was a quick, easy, and overall enjoyable read. I bought this book on my Kindle at about 6:30 am Christmas Day. I was 50% through at about 8:30am, had to stop reading at that point in order to celebrate Christmas, and then picked it back up around 11:45pm and finished it at about 1am. So, clearly, this is an EASY read.

If you read no more of my review, here's the important bit.....
READ THIS BOOK IF:
1. You like young adult romance
2. You're looking for a new book but don't want to get into a new series (the last thing I need is to be waiting on ANOTHER 'yet to be published' book in ANOTHER series....I'm tired of books ending in cliffhangers and waiting FOREVER for the conclusion!)
3. You want a quick, easy read and don't mind being done with the book in potentially a few hours.
4. You're about to get on a plane and want some easy, lighthearted entertainment that you can finish on your flight.
5. You enjoy the plot line of just about every "teen movie" ever made about young men and young women who think they have nothing in common but then fall in love.

What I liked about it:
1. The male character was sweet and easily likable.
2. Zoey's family life and her sense of responsibility was well written and consistent throughout the book.
3. It had a happy ending, and left me feeling satisfied.

I gave it only three stars for the following reasons:
1. The storyline is not new. As I was reading it, I felt some deja vu, but I had hope that the author would flesh out the story a bit, maybe throw some wrenches in there to surprise the reader. (If you've seen the movie "She's All That," you get the basic gist of this book.) The author could have made the story more interesting by making some unique twists or even throwing in some better humor or more intense angst.

2. There were a LOT of grammatical errors/spelling errors in the version I read. Hopefully the publisher is aware of that and will make a newer version that fixes those. Several times I honestly wasn't aware of what was trying to be conveyed as words had been completely left out of sentences. Luckily, I was able to make up my own words to fill the gaps, but it was still annoying.

3. At times, I felt like the characters did or said something that did not fit their personality. Mostly this was true of Zoey. Maybe the author did this on purpose, to show the reader that Zoey was confused and didn't truly know herself yet. If that is the case, it was not done very well. Let me explain: What I like most about books is their ability to take me away from this world and into a completely different one. I forget that I'm lying in bed and can't sleep, and I become the character in the book - feeling what they feel, seeing what they see. When a character does something that doesn't seem to fit with the personality that the author has chosen to share with us, it is very jarring, and it reminds me that I am reading, that I am not actually in that other world. It brings me back to reality, and I don't like that. So, when Zoey would do something that felt uncharacteristic, I was reminded that I was lying in bed and should really get up to clean the house in order to prepare for my parents coming over. Blech. I don't like to be reminded of real life. :)

Despite the above 3 things that I did not enjoy, I am still happy that I read the book, and I do recommend it. Just be prepared for a good book, but not an excellent book.

enamoran y blah, blah, blah.

Zoey y Matt me encantaron.

I had a few problems reading this. I liked Matt, he was one of the sweetest and most likable heroes ever, but I could not stand Zoey. She was one of the most annoying, selfish, hypocritical characters I've ever read. She was incredibly judgmental and b*tchy for someone who had to grow up fast and become a mom to her siblings, you'd think she'd be a little more mature for her age but she still acted like a spoiled, stuck up teenager. She was no better than Chelsey, I don't see what Matt saw in her other than she didn't hide the bad parts of her lie everyone else did in the book. She ridiculed her own fellow students and turned her nose up at them as if she was better than them, just because they were excited about being in Paris they were embarrassing American tourists, instead of asking for help with ordering a meal she was stubborn and wanted to pretend like she knew what she was doing for her own pride, she criticized Amanda and Stephanie when they gladly included her in their circle so she wasn't left out, she used Matt at her convenience and made stupid rules for them to abide by, while also hanging out with those same people she mocked and talked down about. She was a real piece of work like I've never seen done before. She was ugly, had no concern for anyone's feelings but her own family and everyone else could piss off. Her personality made this book miserable for me to read.

Matt was the only good thing about this book. He was so nice, he was sincere, he was suffering, and he seemed like he just needed a friend he could be himself with rather than in a relationship with Zoey because she's a wishy washy user. I feel like if he got together with her she would destroy the good in him and be the final downfall before he completely changed or gave up on himself. She's not the girl for him and she didn't deserve someone as good as him. That's just my take on it.

There were very noticeable grammar errors which I'm not too bothered about normally if a story is good but like I said they were noticeable and the story wasn't all that great either. It was nothing special, it felt like a teenager wrote this. The ending doesn't even seem to indicate that these characters grew, it wrapped up way too easily and nicely for the place that both characters were in when it ended. They didn't resolve anything, they didn't talk about where they were going in the future, they didn't even establish a relationship. It was all too sudden and tied up in a bow. This is one of the weirdest books and endings I've ever read. I hated the heroine, the language felt forced sometimes, the storyline was whatever, the relationship between the characters was awkward and went nowhere, I don't even know what the author was going for with this book and I don't care to try to find out. This was a waste of my time and I can't bring myself to even consider reading anything by this writer in the future.

Zoe doesn’t lead a normal lifestyle. With a dad that works all the time, a depressed mother and four young siblings, she’s more of a mother to them than a sister as she does everything for them. At the end of the day, she is absolutely knackered and that’s why she can’t wait to go to Paris, to see how they cope without her at home.

Matt is the popular jock, the captain of the football team, he’s rich, had a popular girlfriend, whom he dumps and goes to all the parties. Thing is he’s faking being happy but feels like he has to keep up this cheery persona around everyone; at home and at school.

Zoey and Matt are both hiding behind a facade. They both have things happening in their life’s that they don’t want anyone to know about and that’s why Paris is an escape for them both.

They both get partnered up on the trip to Paris, to do an assignment together and Zoey isn’t happy about it at all. Zoey is a goth girl, more into keeping to herself and Matt is a popular jock, known by everyone. They have nothing in common. But in Paris they both get to know each other and they both feel at ease being together; they don’t have to act fake.

Sticking together throughout the trip, they form their own little bubble; just the two of them.
They both feel something spending time together, hence the frenemies with benefits, but they know everything must return to how it was before Paris when they fly home.

Except things don’t change, minus Zoey trying to ignore Matt when they get back, he slowly worms his way into her life, no matter how much she tries to stop it. She doesn’t want to fall in love with someone who wants to stay in their town, when she wants to get far away.
So they make a deal. Secret meetups to hook up and when Zoey wants to stop it, Matt tells her they can have one phone call each then they can stop all contact. Can they really stay away from each other though?

I loved both the characters of Matt and Zoey. They seemed so different yet so in tune with one another. Matt suffers from migraines and Zoey turns into mother mode to help him out whereas Matt is so kind and lovely to her siblings, even going as far to help her mother out.
It was a breath of fresh air to see someone like Matt admitting he doesn’t want the popular status that he has to keep up, trying to be happy when he’s clearly not and it doesn’t feel like him at all.

Zoey doesn’t like anyone seeing the real her – someone who keeps the family running – so it takes courage for her to let Matt see that side of her, especially as he witnesses it firsthand. But she accepts his help even though she wants to be the strong one.

They both show their weak sides to one another, Matt with the migraines and telling Zoey about his brother’s death and Zoey with her family. It was really nice to read them help each other out and be tormented over their feelings for one another, finally succumbing to them later on.

The only problem was the ending. I felt that Eliza could have added a few more chapters to their journey but then maybe it was the perfect way to end it. Other than that, I did enjoy this book. It gave me a few laughs in places and a few gasps and squeals. All in all, a great read to pass the day.

Zoey wanted something normal in her life. With her depressed mother and four siblings who she takes cares almost as mother herself..her life is too busy for thinking about her needs and all thinks her as distant and cold except her friend Morgan. So she gets excited when she gets opportunity to go to Paris on tour.

Everyone thought Matt is spoiled and got all of it with being football captain, rich, nice girlfriend, parties. But only he knows how much he fakes it.His life has changed after his brother's death and his parents were never open about it.

So when Zoey and Matt are partnered on Paris assignment..they get to know about each other more..and feel something real and not fake with others. They form their own bubble of happiness and live in it ..but they know once back from Paris every thing will be shattered.

When Matt tries to show her comfort and interact with her siblings..Zoey knows she need to end with Matt before she falls too hard and break their hearts? Can their love overcome struggles and can zoey at last free herself and give a chance for happiness in her life and not for family? And can Matt help her.

Nice one..i loved reading it..Zoey is a strong character but every once in a while its nice to be taken care of..and Matt does it to her..its sad to see them struggle and but happy to see them come out together helping each other.

"Bound Together" was the book that had nothing special but readable. The plot was too simple (for everyone who love to read this type of story): both of narrator had their own struggle but in this book it wasn't capture me. Eliza Jane didn't push each characters enough toward their limits so I felt there was more in it than I read. There were something that felt off but it wasn't the big part of the story. Some part was cut too short and the ending didn't a great ending for me. Some conflict was solved too easy (out of the blue ... poof! the problem solved). Some details also confused me. However, I loved the sweetness between Matt and Zoey and that thing alone kept me reading it (with a little bit of joy) until the end.

Bound together was so much more than I expected. I ADORE Matt. I mean seriously, there isn't a sweeter guy written ever. I loved Zoey too - she was feisty and independent, and vulnerable all at the same time. I think the thing that I loved most is that Matt and Zoey were so real. While Matt was an absolute sweetheart, he wasn't so perfect that you couldn't see him as a real person. And Zoey for all her angst, didn't fall into the trap of being the archetypal "angry loner chick". There were a thousand little "aww" moments, which I enjoyed throughly. Overall an great YA romance.

A wonderful story of young love. I loved all the characters. They were so real to how awful life can be. How a young girl can view sex as a distraction from her home life. A boy that feels he has to fake his life with other people to not worry his parents. I just really enjoyed the story.

Cliché.

Y cursi.

The basic premise in this book involves two high school students on a trip abroad. Zoey is the loner girl and Matt is the football star. Yeah, these stereotypes have been completely overdone, but this author manages to avoid that problem and really developed her character so you don't care much about the stereotypes.

In actuality, Zoey is a loner because she is dealing with heavy responsibilities including taking care of her mom (who has some sort of severe depression- it isn't delved into that much) and her young siblings. She may be a loner and avoid getting involved in any sort of school activities but it is more of a self-defense mechanism. She is funny, smart and amazingly responsible. A life that has to be tiring so she takes a week off and goes on the school field trip abroad, looking to put aside her responsibilities for once. Enter Matt. Matt is a football hero and popular guy who is tired of keeping up appearances. He is smart and funny and on the outside looks like the perfect guy next door. However, Matt has been through some serious hardships and has been faking his way (emotionally) through high school.

These two get paired together for a project during their field trip and decide to try out a friends with benefits relationship for one week only. Since their relationship is only going to last during their trip abroad, the two of them feel free to be themselves. This story explores what happens when two people who are outwardly nothing alike, get to know the real sides of themselves.

This was a recent impulse buy, and I have to admit I really enjoyed it- I love the unexpected books! I hadn't heard much about it but I liked the short description. However, this book is not just about a fling abroad- it explores heavier topics such as mental illness, family responsibilities, death and stereotypes. Both characters, Zoey and Matt, are well developed and extremely likable. They are doing what they can do keep themselves going and it is hard not to root for them to get their happy ending (for themselves individually and together.) The descriptions of the trip abroad were enough to set the scene; although I do find that to be one of the weaker points. They are in Paris- the book could have done so much more with that! From reading the story, you don't really get that they are in Paris- except for a few mentions of famous landmarks- it really could have taken place anywhere (just away from school and family responsibilities.) Also, to make the story work, the author basically lets the kids run free without chaperones while abroad- which is not the most realistic- but as I was so invested on the characters getting to know each other (and themselves) I didn't really spend much time thinking about that.

What I love is the fact that this story is not just a sweet love story (which it is), it goes deeper and is not so superficial. The writing is great and the story is addicting (I read this in one sitting). I love that both characters compromised in the book (it wasn't one making huge life changes) and I love that it was Matt who was doing most of the pursuing.

All in all, I really enjoyed the story. I will be keeping an eye out for further books from this author.
