Rate this book
From the two-time Sydney Taylor Honor author comes another sweet Nantucket-set summer romance, perfect for fans of Rachel Lynn Solomon and K.L. Walther.Jordan Edelman’s messy dating days are over. After a few too many broken hearts, and a father who worries a bit too much, she’s sworn off boys—at least for the summer. And since she’ll be tagging along on her father’s research trip to Nantucket, she doesn’t think it’ll be too hard to stick to her resolution. But hooking up with the cute boy on the ferry doesn’t count, right? At least, not until that cute boy turns out to be Ethan Barbanel. As in, her father’s longtime research assistant Ethan Barbanel, the boy Jordan has hated from afar for years. And to make matters worse, Jordan might actually be falling for him. As if that didn’t complicate her life enough, Jordan’s new summer job with a local astronomer turns up a centuries-old mystery surrounding Gibson’s Comet—and as she dives into her research, what she learns just might put her growing relationship with Ethan in jeopardy.

For whatever reason, this was a difficult book to get through. It took me twice as long to complete as most other novels, because I kept losing my “investment “ in the storyline. Also, the frequent F-bombs were a turn-off for me.

FIVE CHARMING, DELIGHTFUL STARS!!

I am famously a Hannah Reynolds stan, and I must say that this is officially my favorite of her Nantucket romances. The chemistry between Jordan and Ethan is so fun and swoon-y. From the moment they meet on the ferry, you can't help but root for them to make it work. Also, I adored the growth of Jordan's relationship with her father — I cried (more than once) as they learned how to better communicate with and understand one another.

Bonus: I learned a lot about astronomy and comets and science and women in STEM!! The message of fighting for the credit and recognition you deserve is so powerful for young women to read, and I'm so glad Hannah wrote this book that will help inspire teen girls to stand up for themselves in the face of misogyny.

Anyway, Hannah has done it again, and I will read everything she writes forever!!!

Jordan Edelman has had a lot of hookups — but this summer on Nantucket, before she heads off to college, she's hoping for a fresh start. Until... oops! She kisses a hot boy on the ferry. And then he turns out to be her dad's research assistant? Eek! She's definitely not going to kiss him again though...

I loved the witty voice, the beach-y setting, the charming characters, and of course the mystery about a female astronomer and the discovery of a comet! Such cool science facts are deftly woven in and it definitely made me appreciate astronomy in a new way. The romance is of course wonderful and swoon-worthy and made me want a hot summer romance for myself! Maybe I should go to Nantucket???

Note that this is related to Summer of Lost Letters and Eight Nights of Flirting but this is a standalone!

Books don't need to be big and dramatic to have real personal stakes and feelings and if there's a better example of an author who excels at that, it is Hannah Reynolds.

Not my favourite of the series, sadly. I loved the historical storyline of book 1 and adored the romance in book 2. But in this one, i felt lukewarm about both at best.

The plot was very slow and I struggled to stay invested. I feel like I made it to the end of the book, and yet I still don't really know a lot about Ethan, for instance. There was less depth to his character than I'd been expecting.

Also not enough Barbanel cousin shenanigans in this one, though the triplets did make up for it a little.

The setting and atmosphere is, once again, the very best thing about this series. I could feel summer seeping into my bones, which is no mean feat given the atrocious weather we've been having.

2024 Spring Bingo (#SpringIntoLoveBingo🌷): Yay, Space!

Content Notes:

Hannah Reynolds continues to be one of the best YA contemporary writers out there. Some might be baffled by what I say next: at no point was I surprised by a plot point during this book. I predicted how the historical storyline would unfold as soon as Jordan discovered the diaries. I predicted how the third act mess would explode. I predicted how the heroine would matchmake [redacted couple] the second both characters were introduced.

And yet. This book is so smart and emotionally nuanced and readable. The surprise isn't the point; my heart was still anxious and thrilled and awed along with Jordan. Like all the best romances, "predictability" isn't a flaw at all; what matters is the execution of familiar tropes to make the emotional journey feel earned. At one point, I actually had to pause my audiobook because I was gripped by second-hand terror on Jordan's behalf. I had to take a breather because I wanted to melt into the floor.

Great father-daughter dynamics, great romance, great Jewish rep, and great audiobook narrator. I love the Barbanel family in Nantucket and hope we get more stories for the younger generation. The grandmother matriarch continues to be the best meddling character of the chaotic bunch. Love the cameos we get of Abby and Shira!

Read via audio (narrated by Karissa Vacker).

Super cute story about a teen who spends the summer in Nantucket and finds ways to entertain herself because her father is so immersed in his work. The main characters, Jordan and Ethan, are likeable and fun with lots of witty banter and chemistry. I loved the work she did in astronomy and the eventual realization of stolen work that was commonplace at the time when women were not taken seriously. This has a lot about growing up and learning to speak up for yourself, which is a lesson we all need from time to time.

I adored this book. It was more than just a swoony summer romance although it was that too. Jordan was dealing with a lot of different things emotionally. I loved her journey through all these issues. I really enjoyed her research and the small story within the story.

After having read The Summer of Lost Letters and Eight Nights of Flirting, I was very excited for this. And it didn't disappoint. It was my favorite of the three books centered around members of the Barbanel family of Nantucket. Jordan Edelman sets off to spend the summer in Nantucket with her dad, who is there doing research for his next popular history book, and she is determined to hate her dad's research assistant, Ethan Barbanel. This book had all the chemistry I loved from Eight Nights of Flirting plus the historical research mystery plot line à la The Summer of Lost Letters, and Reynolds combines the two flawlessly here. I also really appreciated that both main characters are Jewish and Jordan reflects upon her own Jewish identity, including the feeling of being "not Jewish enough." History of science (featuring women scientists!) plus a Jewish romance? Count me in.

4.5/5 stars

This is a Young Adult contemporary read. It is the third book in a series centered around different members of a family.

These books are set in Nantucket. And each one focuses on a different teen in the Barbanel family. However IMO this book can definitely be read as a standalone. The main characters from the other two books have very minimal roles in this book.

The main character Jordan (17) is spending the summer in Nantucket with her dad (he is doing research for his next book). This island setting was amazing and I loved getting to see Jordan explore it.

I really enjoyed this book. There is romance, which I enjoyed. However that is not the main focus. For me the story was more focused on family and friendships. And I actually really liked the friendship between the main couple so much.

There are a few things that I really loved about this book. The father/daughter relationship between Jordan and her dad was really explored. And I really liked seeing this relationship evolve.

I wanted to read this book for the Jewish rep. I liked that both main characters are Jewish. And it was interesting to read about Jordan reflecting on her faith.

My absolute favorite part of this book was the astronomy and the women in STEM. The book focuses a lot on female scientists (both now and in the past). I was fascinated by the research that Jordan helped with. Also there are diary entries from the past, which normally wouldn't be my thing. But I loved it so much. Especially how it connected to other parts of the book.

Overall I was expecting a sweet cute romance. But this book was so much more. If you are interested in astronomy or women in STEM (past and present) definitely check out this amazing book.

Me?? Rating an ARC 5 STARS??

I really enjoyed this book so much more than I expected, it blew away all my expectations for it. The main character felt so relatable and messy. She was going through life and all its insecurities while also going on a new adventure. The MMC was just absolutely perfect. I need one. He was the sweetest and so smart and I LIVED for their banter. They had me kicking my feet, giggling every time they interacted. Their chemistry was so perfect. But this book also didn't just focus on the romance. All of the problems in the plot didn't really stem from the building relationship, they came from the main character struggling trying to get her dads attention and diving deep into research on female astronomers. The way everything played off each other was just how it should have been.

This book is PERFECT for summer, and you would probably like it if you liked The Summer of Broken Rules. It has all the vibes of summer while also having science as a subplot, diving into sea navigation and astronomy and the age-old problems of women fighting for their spots in science.

loved everything about this - definitely my favourite in this series by a long shot (despite also rating the others highly), something about Jordan and Ethan just landed so well with me, as well as the summer setting again & the families & the science & the historic research etc etc etc

Also, dare I say.... this romance had real Rush Me vibes???

4.3 rounded down to 4/5.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"Summer Nights and Meteorites" by Hannah Reynolds takes readers on an enchanting journey filled with romance, science, and the empowering spirit of girl power. The story revolves around Jordan Edelman, a young woman determined to avoid the pitfalls of romance after a series of heartbreaks. However, her resolve is tested when she crosses paths with Ethan Barbanel, her father's research assistant, during a summer trip to Nantucket.

The novel beautifully weaves together themes of science, women in science, and girl power. Through Jordan's summer job with a local astronomer, Reynolds introduces readers to a captivating centuries-old mystery surrounding Gibson's Comet. This element adds a layer of intrigue to the narrative, making it more than just a typical romantic comedy.

The characters, particularly Jordan and Ethan, are well-developed and relatable. The author skillfully explores Jordan's internal struggles, including her feelings of being replaced by her father's relationship with Ethan. This emotional depth adds complexity to the story, allowing readers to connect with the characters on a personal level.

The world-building in "Summer Nights and Meteorites" is commendable, transporting readers to the picturesque setting of Nantucket. The vivid descriptions create a palpable atmosphere, enhancing the overall reading experience. The seamless integration of scientific elements adds an educational yet entertaining layer to the narrative, making it a delightful read for those interested in astronomy.

The pacing of the story is well-executed, and the plot unfolds seamlessly, keeping readers engaged from start to finish. While the ending may follow some rom-com conventions, it does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the novel. The predictable nature of the conclusion is balanced by the strength of the character dynamics and the emotional resonance of Jordan's journey.

The novel's portrayal of Jordan's internal struggles, coupled with the blossoming romance between her and Ethan, makes it a compelling page-turner. The reader can feel the pain and vulnerability that Jordan experiences in her strained relationship with her father and her conflicting emotions towards Ethan.

"Summer Nights and Meteorites" is a great summer read that combines romance, science, and relatable characters. Reynolds successfully creates a story that not only entertains but also celebrates the strength and resilience of women in the field of science. This book is a delightful blend of heartwarming romance and empowering themes, making it a must-read for fans of the genre. I devoured it in one sitting, unable to put it down, and found myself rooting for Jordan and Ethan every step of the way.

Everything about this book screams me: the Nantucket setting, Women in STEM, and a Jewish romance. But unfortunately this book just didn’t work for me. This is a very slow plot, which was the main problem for me. Also Jordan’s attitude got on my last nerve.

This book was good. Not my favorite in the series, but it had its moments.

I liked all the astronomy and Nantucket history-science-ness. Some of it was fictional (see author's note at the end), but a good deal of it was real. I appreciated the Reynolds research and details in telling about some individuals who are often overlooked.

Jordan and Ethan had a decent romance. It was a lot of back and forth which is not really my favorite. There were some sweet moments between them though. Especially when one of them was struggling with something and the other would offer support.

Ethan was an interesting character. I feel like we didn't get to the root his personality and problems. They were talked about a bit, but I didn't feel them. He was always just happy and pleasant and went along with whatever Jordan wanted when it came to their relationship. I wanted him to grow a backbone during a lot of this, or at least show progress in developing said backbone. It never really happened. Jordan had some "not like other girls" energy that I felt like I was combating the whole time, but she eventually won me over. She was relatable in so many ways that I could forget about her wardrobe which "wasn't like everyone else in Nantucket" and her attitude and whatnot.

I did really like the relationship between Jordan and her dad and the continual development of it during the book. It felt real and honest, and I think it will be something many teens can relate to.

Overall, this was a nice book. If you're looking for a romance-heavy YA, this isn't it. This one is pretty balanced between romantic relationships, and family and friend relationships. A nice read, but not one that would instantly come to my mind to recommend to my friends.

Just adored this book—such a sweet father/daughter storyline and a wonderful tale of the plight of women in science, both past and present. And, of course, I loved the romance between Jordan and Ethan, which felt very realistic in a way teen romances don’t always. Add in the gorgeous descriptions of Nantucket and you’ve got a perfect summer read that will transport you from the island itself to the open sea and the heavens. Definitely pack this book in your carry-on as you head out on your own summer adventure!

This was a super great read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about so much astronomy and add a bit of romance and realizations in there and it was just perfect. What a great book. Very well written and informative. Makes me want to look up into the sky and search for stars and meteor's.

We meet Jordan on her way to spend the summer with her father in Nantucket. She has a chance encounter with Ethan who later turns out to be the bane of her existence, or is he? There was a lot of unnecessary animosity from her to him, only for her to later realize he's not really the problem. It all stems from her relationship with her father and her truth coming out.

I enjoyed the family aspect, the friendships made, the blooming romance and the set ups throughout the book. it was enjoyable and entertaining. I would definitely recommend this book. Had some historical aspects, educational aspects and real life situations. Got to love learning new things when reading books.

This was such a great Summer read. Hannah excels at writing YA books that don’t feel like YA books at all. It was fun to revisit the Barbanel clan again and the Nantucket setting. Jordan and Ethan were both quite mature for teens and Jordan in particular had a good coming of age story. As always, Hannah writes great Jewish rep. This book in particular is very heavy on STEM however, it also contributes to the overall “mystery” that Jordan is investigating.

My only wish is that we get to see more of the past lead couples in the next book.

I've read everything Hannah Reynolds has ever published, and I'm SO happy to report that she somehow keeps getting better?! This is my favorite book of hers so far (I devoured it in less than 24 hours), and Summer Nights and Meteorites is gonna be my whole personality for the foreseeable future (sorry not sorry).

Summer Nights follows relatable protagonist Jordan Edelman as she gives up her last summer before college — which should be fun and sexy and carefree — to go to Nantucket where she knows no one except her dad. Only she meets a boy on the ferry to the island, and he’s everything she wants (even though she knows she shouldn’t). There’s also a captivating mystery about the origins of a comet discovery in which I was surprisingly invested. What unfolds is part romance, part history lesson, part heartrending parental relationship.

Reynolds writes A++ banter, chemistry, and romance, and while I’ve enjoyed primarily that aspect of her first book, The Summer of Lost Letters (my previous favorite), in this one I loved that part while also being deeply invested in the relationship between Jordan and her dad and all the super-cool astronomy stuff. (I also really want to go to Nantucket now.)

I cried happy tears more than once, and I can’t wait to read whatever Reynolds publishes next (even, like, her grocery list? Giveittome.).

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much to Penguin Teen for sending me an ebook ARC of this one and a finished hardcover copy!

I really enjoyed this book! Reynolds’s writing style was so beautiful and I was in awe at some of her descriptions and phrases. The story description of it being the same vibes as The Summer of Broken Rules was spot on, I loved getting into another Nantucket summer romance. Jordan and Ethan’s relationship was so cute and I loved how there was both a focus on their relationship but also Jordan’s relationship with her dad. I also really enjoyed the historical and scientific aspects of the story, as it focused on a field that I really know nothing about. I always love when I get to read a story that is leaves me feeling entertained but also like I got to learn something, and that part of Summer Nights and Meteorites was really interesting.

Overall this was a good and fun summer read! It was definitely a little insta-lovey at the beginning which is why it loses a star for me, but I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend to bring in the summer!

I am the HUGEST Hannah Reynolds fan and this latest Golden doors YA romance did not disappoint in the slightest!! Set on Nantucket island, this book featured three summer romances across timelines and shed light on an unknown woman astronomer and the supposed true discoverer of a comet.

I loved the narration by one of my favs, Karissa Vacker, the Jewish rep, and the badass female main character. Sure to be one of my fav YA reads of the summer, this was excellent on audio and can be read as a standalone. HIGHLY recommended! Fun follow up read to “Eight Nights of Flirting”

I enjoyed reading “Eight Nights of Flirting” so I decided to read the next installment of the Barbanel family romance series. I love the Nantucket locale in Reynolds’ work and the infusion of nautical history which really roots the reader in the place and time
Of the story. The fact that in both novels the teen and young adult romantic leads have bonded over historical mysteries makes it even more fun.

Jordan Edelman doesn't have the greatest track record when it comes to boyfriends. She has sworn of dating while she spends the summer with her dad. Her vow doesn't last long when she makes out with a cute boy on the ferry ride to Nantucket. Her misstep wouldn't be a big deal, except she soon discovers the cute boy is Ethan Barbanel, her dad's assistant--a boy she's secretly hated without ever having met him. Now that she's made-out with him, she can't stop thinking about him. To complicate things further, Jordan is staying at the Barbanels' mansion for the summer. Her summer job with a local astronomer keeps her busy tracking space trash and learning about Gibson's Comet, but it doesn't entirely keep her thoughts from Ethan.

Summer Nights and Meteorites is a cute summer romance with plenty of complications. The STEM side story regarding Jordan's work added a nice bit of depth to the overall story and tied in nicely with her relationships with both Ethan and her father. The Nantucket setting makes it perfect for a summer read!

I love reading. If you're seeing this, I'm sure you do too (or you're my mom??) but randomly I'll read a book and it reminds me why I enjoy it so much. Summer Nights and Meteorites is one of those books! It gave me an incredible amount of joy and will rank among favorite YA contemporaries like Dungeons and Drama or Amelia Unabridged.
Jordan has sworn off boys for the summer. Crossing on the ferry to Nantucket allows Jordan the opportunity for one last kiss with a cute boy before landing with no harm done. Except he turns out to be the face of her nemesis and rival for her dad's attention.
This is so lovely and so fun. It's the perfect balance in a coming of age story about feminism and finding one's place in the world with found family and young love. I'll absolutely keep reading and recommending books from @hannahelisawren.
No third act breakup?! (clap, clap, clap)
