A single chemistry teacher with two cats equals a spinster in the making…or does it?
Stacey Kinsella is the definition of unlucky in love and long-ago accepted she has more brains than beauty. What’s a chemistry teacher to do? Focus on her job, friends, family, and perfumery hobby. She never expects the sexiest man to ever walk the halls of Brigid’s Vista High School to stroll into her classroom and catch her with her shirt off…or the unmistakable chemistry she shares with him who just happens to coach her least favorite sport.
A single football coach given a career second chance doesn’t need distractions…or does he?
Becoming head coach for the BVHS Bears football team is Reece Caldwell’s career Hail Mary. His last job ending in scandal, followed by a sacking he’d never before experienced off the football field, means he has to turn the Bears into a winning team. He also has the assistant coach and athletic director challenging his every move. Distractions aren’t allowed. Yet something about the quirky chemistry teacher—who wears black bras—has captured his attention.
As Stacey and Reece start to explore their unexpected connection, Reece realizes how much is at stake under the Friday Night Lights. And it far surpasses winning football games.
Off-the-Charts Chemistry is Book One in the Smart is Seriously Sexy Series where brains, quips, and a fair amount of brawn converge in and out of the classroom!

Stacey (32) & Reece (40) 1 part quirky, intelligent h + 1 part hunky, easy going H = instant attraction
Stacey hasn't had much luck in the relationship department. Reece has an ex-wife who is not a great person. Both characters were so sweet, mature and fun. What I liked most is that they took time to get to know each other instead of diving right into a relationship. The author gets an A+ for no 3rd act breakup from me.
Side characters are great, especially Stacey's 3 BFF', Morgan, Tanith and Gia, who will each get their own book. Of course there are few characters that make things difficult and really need a good kick between the goal posts.
There's quite a bit of emphasis on Reece being new to town and trying to fill the shoes of the former coach. The small town pretty much lives and breaths football. I like football well enough, but I could have went for a little more on the chemistry side of things. Some repetition of phrases, too, but other than that I really enjoyed this one.

4 ⭐ || 2.5 🌶 Sporty. Sexy. Science-y. Steamy. High school chemistry teacher Stacey Kinsella SWEARS that she’s destined to become an old, chronically single cat lady after several failed relationships—that is until the arrival of hot new head football coach Reece Caldwell. "Maybe...just maybe...quantum physics' law of attraction had finally started to work in her favor".
After an awkward classroom meet-cute, this seemingly odd pair instantly hit it off, igniting some…dare I say….chemistry between the two?! Stacey and Reece are very quickly thrown into the drama that is high school politics, kindling a new relationship, and the ghosts of Reece’s past. "Ten percent coffee with forty-five percent science nerd and forty-five percent sexy high school football coach had resulted in chemistry" 💕
———————————————————————— Quite honestly the plot was more about the mechanics of football than science, but overall it was an enjoyable read! I look forward to reading the future books in this series. On a somewhat personal note, the story itself was extra heartwarming because it mirrors many of my relationships. As a working woman in STEM, with a husband who dreams of coaching football, the plot of OTCC was very close to my own reality. It very accurately represented just how cutthroat the world of sports can be and how spouses can make or break their partner's career based on their support (or lack thereof).
Thanks to NetGalley and Sealed With a Swoon Books LLC for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review!
Thanks to NetGalley and publishers for the opportunity to ARC review this book! Off-the-charts chemistry is a fun, small-town romance story revolving around a chemistry teacher and a football coach. I enjoyed how matured the MCs were and there were no silly things like miscommunication or third act breakups. Although i enjoyed this story, I feel like there could have been more buildup in the tension between the characters or more spice. I felt like this was a YA slowburn romance that really focussed on the football coach's life. Also, there was alot of repetitive phrases like "devilish grin" and "their gazes snapped together" or "you have my undivided attention". The last one was cute at first but it started wearing me out. In all, this is a great cute romance book that's perfect for a beach read!
I just finished Off-the-Charts Chemistry by Christine Miles and here is my review.
Stacey Kinsella loves teaching high school chemistry. It’s a real shame it’s missing from her real life. That is until the sexy football coach walks in on her with her shirt off and the sparks start to fly.
Reece doesn’t need any distractions from his new position as coach of the high school football team but even he can’t deny the attraction so instant, it could melt nickel.
As the two teachers spend more and more time together, they can’t keep their hands off each other but something is brewing with the 2 assistant coaches that could spell the end of Reece’s career before it even really started. YIKES this book was too dang cute! I discovered I have a real love for STEM in my romance books and this one was fantastic! It was like a warm cozy hug in a beautiful cover. A super fun easy read. I don’t normally enjoy books set in high school but I loved how it was written so it really did work and the small town vibes were an A++ for me. Stacey is so sweet and I usually don’t like books where I share my name with a character but I didn’t mind it this time. Reece is wonderful and I loved watching them fall in love. I am such a hopeless romantic. I am so pumped that this is going to be a series and I cannot wait to see what is next! This book was absolutely a winner for me, especially published by an indie publishing house!
4.5 stars!
Thank you @netgalley and #sealedwithaswoonllc for my gifted copy!
I'm always a sucker for the gym-teacher-guy and nerdy-teacher-girlie trope 😵💫😍
the thing that is a major positive thing for the book but wasn't really working for me is their age. though hers is never specified (I think), it's said several times he's 40. BUT it can easily be ignored, his manner of speaking feels pretty young imo so it wasn't hard to picture them as a couple of 20 something year-olds. now this means people who want to read about real adults romance and those looking for younger adults romance can both find their happiness here🌞
it was really soft and cute, not my preferred cup of tea tbh I wish he had the opportunity to defend her in some way shape or form but for the cozy readers you can dive in with your eyes closed 🙏
now what really annoyed me is the not so subtle repetition of "devilish grin". I counted, the term devilish in relation to his grins appears exactly 13 times. the book isn't long enough to balance it out, his grins are literally never qualified as anything other than devilish 👿
loved the students subplot, they felt like real high-school boys and not just sub characters added in the background to thicken the story🤌
"Reece wanted to unwind the chemistry teacher and not only physically. He wanted to know her."
When Stacey Kinsella, the chemistry teacher, first meets Reece Caldwell, the new football coach, it's embarrassment at first sight. However, it doesn't stop the instant attraction. An attraction that appears to be mutual. Unfortunately, she's not been lucky in love and is wary that a guy like Reece would go for a nerdy science geek like her, and he's got his own baggage, too. Not to mention a new job that comes with its own issues.
This was such a really enjoyable story. I adored Reece and Stacey together. They were cute, flirty and sexy. They didn't play games or leave room for the other to doubt that the interest was mutual. I enjoyed the relationship they were building and the trust that grew between them. I really enjoyed the banter, as well as the honesty between them. I had heart-eyes over them! I also loved Stacey's girl gang - all strong smart women - and I look forward to their stories.
I am primarily a thriller reader but have taken up more light romances over the past few months. This book seemed to have so many themes that I am drawn to. There’s friendship, romance, spice and of course, chemistry! I expected the book to have more scientific references, but found there were more football references. This was a really fast read! Faster than I expected. I couldn’t put it down and absolutely lost myself in Stacey and Reece’s relationship. I’m really looking forward to reading the second book of the series. However, I really hope the author adds more spice!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Thank you to NetGalley, Sealed With a Swoon Books and Christine Miles for this eARC in return for an honest review.
I loved it. It was a cute quick read. Just what I needed! It had just enough details without getting too specific - both in the science and the sports. I look forward to the rest of the series! Free ARC copy received for honest review.
Okay, so I just closed this book and I'm a bit torned about it, Overall, it's an easy enjoyable romance book, with good characters and a cute relationship development.
Let's get into what i liked about it first. I liked that Reece and Stacey were both developed enough to be enjoyed as characters on their own and not just as a couple. I liked that they actually talked and got to know each other throughout the book. I liked the healthy communication style they established and the maturity they both have, no couple drama or miscommunication trope is actually refreshing in the romance genre.
Now, into what I liked a little less and bumped this read down to 3 stars-ish. First, the writing style. Not that it was bad in any way, it just felt very simple, sometimes a bit repetitive and lacked a certain sense of depth and power to it (in my opinion). I have to say the dialogues and flirting between Stacey and Reece were really on point though. On the contrary, the spicy scenes especially felt a bit rushed and poorly executed, not that there's a lot of them. Second, and probably my biggest issue with the book: I found myself losing interest as i read instead of getting more involved in the story. I actually struggled to finish it. Even though I appreciated the lack of some common romance tropes, the whole intrigue around the football team wasn't enough to keep /me/ interested and I wished there was a bit more to the plot. No real suspense, tension or emotion here. Also, I'd have liked to actually see more chemistry and less football in there, the cover and title might be a bit misleading and lead to disappointment on that particular point. Third, considering the size of the book, there was too many secondary characters for my liking. In all honesty, Stacey's three teacher friends are one unique person in my mind, I couldn't care enough to differentiate them, their backstories or their personalities. I think a few less secondary characters would have allowed for a smoother read. Sadly, it often felt like the school drama and other characters were overpowering the romance and I sometimes missed ReeceStacey in their own book.
In conclusion, there's potential here, definitely give it a go if the blurb appeals to you and I personnally might give the next book in the series its shot too!
Buckle up, romance aficionados, because Christine Miles just dropped a literary bombshell with "Off-the-Charts Chemistry"! This book is not your average love story; it's a steamy concoction of brains, brawn, and black bras that had me fanning myself like a 1950s movie star.
Let's dissect this masterpiece, starting with the synopsis. Picture this: a chemistry teacher with a penchant for perfumery caught shirtless by the sexiest football coach in town. And we're not talking your run-of-the-mill love-at-first-sight; we're talking undeniable, toe-curling chemistry that defies the laws of attraction. It's a rom-com waiting to happen, and Miles delivers it with sass and style.
Now, the characters - Stacey Kinsella, the brainy bombshell with two cats and a black bra collection that could rival Victoria's Secret, is my spirit animal. She's proof that intelligence and sex appeal go hand in hand. And Reece Caldwell, the football coach with a career Hail Mary to throw, is so hot he could melt the polar ice caps. Together, they're a literary power couple that left me swooning, laughing, and wishing I had their chemistry notes for my own love life.
The plot is a touchdown, my friends. Miles takes us on a journey under the Friday Night Lights, where winning football games is just the tip of the iceberg. Scandal, second chances, and a healthy dose of academic rivalry make this plot as addictive as chocolate-covered strawberries. Every page is a surprise, and just when you think you've got it all figured out, Miles throws in a curveball that'll have you shouting, "Touchdown!"
And the romance... oh, the romance! It's not just steamy; it's off-the-charts scorching. Stacey and Reece's chemistry isn't something you read; it's something you feel in your bones. The black bras are just the tip of the iceberg; these two are a dynamite duo that could set a library on fire with their passion.
"Off-the-Charts Chemistry" is a must-read for anyone who believes that intelligence is seriously sexy. Christine Miles, you've outdone yourself, and I'm officially on #TeamBlackBra. Readers, prepare yourselves for a wild ride of love, laughter, and enough sizzle to light up the entire romance genre. 🔥📚💋
Stacey Kinsella is a high-school chemistry teacher with two cats and no dating life. She has accepted that she is more brains than beauty and have no love in her immediate future. She never expects one of the sexiest men not only walk down the halls of her school but stroll right into her classroom ….in the middle of changing her shirt. Brigid’s Vista High-school is his second chance. Reece Caldwell is after a career hail mary. After his last disastrous job Reece needs to turn the Bears into a winning team. With the athletic director and his assistant coach challenging his every decision Reece doesn’t need any more distractions especially in the form of a quirky sexy chemistry teacher-with a penchant for black bras. As Stacey and Reece explore their unexpected attraction Reece begins to understand that there is more at stake under those Friday Night Lights. I was originally drawn to the cover of the book. It’s adorable and I was hoping that the book matched. I was not disappointed. I enjoyed so many aspects of this book. It was certainly cute and I love a book with a woman in STEM. The story itself flows well and I enjoyed the unfolding of events without feeling like it was too much or too little. Stacey is a somewhat shy character that definitely has self-confidence issues something which I related to a lot. When it came to her self-confidence I felt the author handled it delicately without it seeming like she was whiny. Stacey isn’t a fan of football but I love that she gives and effort for someone she loves. Reece as a character was not what I was expecting. I thought that he would be more foul mouthed? I am not entirely sure what my impression of him fully was. I like that he is good under pressure and it comes across the page well as he deals with all the difficulties of his job. As for the relationship between the two it is a slow burn. I love how Reece was such a gentleman about taking things slow and then Stacey was like I want to jump his bones now. One thing I that got to me personally was there was quite a bit of repeating I believe it was to drive home a point but I was personally not a fan. If you’re looking for a cute read this one is for you. It has STEM, a jock and smart girl trope and NO third act break up. 3/5 Stars 2/5 Spicy Peppers
Reece is the small town's new high school football coach looking to improve his athlete's losing streak to a winning streak. The only issue is that the team hasn't been appropriately guided and trained. He struggles to get the other coach's support as they disapprove of him. Reece meets Stacey the chemistry teacher indisposed in her classroom. He's there to talk about his top player's bad grades. It's not what you are thinking... no students were in her classroom. lol There's a chemical reaction between the two of them but is it a good reaction or a bad one?
My Thoughts:
I adored Stacey's connection with her three fellow teacher friends. She supports them and they support her no matter what. I liked that her passion for chemistry didn't stop in the classroom as she liked to mix things up in relation to the scent she wore or the beverages she consumed. I loved that Reece is a gentleman and truly shows he's a good man. He knows what he wants but is not quick to act on it. He embodies all the things a woman would want in a man. He's athletic, a handyman, smart, creative, attentive, and inspirational. Reece truly cares for his athletes and gives his all to make them a success. That's what I love the most about him besides the intimate scenes. The book is a slow burn but still embodies mild spice.
I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love a good teacher romance, and just in time for the new school year to start too! I thought that this story seemed more realistic than a lot of other over the top romance story which was really refreshing! The characters had unique friendships that most times aren't told any more. I loved how just because the Hero wasn't married to his wife anymore he was still close to his in-laws.
It has to be mentioned how much I love heroines in STEM books! She was very likeable, sweet and at the same time not a push over. Within the first few moments of this book you see that she's not intimidated at all by her anxiety ridden students or her fellow sports orientated teachers at all. She does what she feels is right and important to her and what best for students.
Both characters were charming in their own ways but extreme delightful together. It was sweet to watch them come together over time all the while dealing with their professional complications. At one point I was getting Friday night light vibes and at another point, it felt like I was a reading a new Ali Hazelwood book. Which is a a great combination! I'm looking forward to reading more from this Author!
If you're looking for a fast lighthearted very sweet romance story I'd differently give this one a try!
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was cute and easy to read. Stacey's relationship with Reece was nice, they got off on the wrong foot with Reece being the new coach of the school football team and her being the chemistry teacher let's just say they have their run-ins at first over some students, but from there is born a "relationship" of friends and then they go on to do something more, it all happened fast and more with the drama that Reece and the team has made it entertaining.
A good story, charming characters and a nice love story to read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

we love women in STEM!!!
Seeing a character who doesn't have a high opinion of themself through their lover's POV has to be the best thing ever! Stacey is a chemistry teacher. She appears to be a good teacher and can get work done. But because of some terrible relationships, she doesn't think of herself as attractive or desirable. And then reading her through 'hot' Coach Caldwell's POV was just amazing.
I feel like this book ticks all of the boxes to be a great read for most audiences. There's opposites attract with a science-y FMC and a sportsy MMC. It's got a guaranteed HEA, and it's super easy to read! Not that it lacks depth, because Reece's plotline with high school politics and the harsh reality of the sports world was interesting to read.
The small-town setting- with of course the school- was super cozy. The initial chapters have a whole sightseeing thing with Reece being new to the area and that was so much fun. I can't wait to see what's next in the "Smart is Seriously Sexy" series.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the author for a complimentary e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Stacey Kinsella is a high school chemistry teacher who is unlucky in love. Reece Caldwell is the new head coach for the high school football team who gets a Luke warm welcome from the town. Sparks fly between the pair. Off-The-Charts Chemistry is book one in the Smart is Seriously Sexy series where brains, quips, and a fair amount of brawn’s converge in and out of the classroom.
As someone who grew up in a small town in Texas, Friday Night Lights is really a thing. What Reece had to deal with in this book was so frustrating, but I know unfortunately it actually happens. I really enjoyed this sports/STEM romance. Reece and Stacey were so cute together and had chemistry. As a fellow educator, I also found that I enjoyed reading a book set in a school with teachers as the MCs.
Thank you to Netgalley and Publishers for giving me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
If you’re into: 📚 Clever, witty heroines 💪 Charming, irresistible heroes 🔬 STEM-inspired settings ❤️ Sweet, slow-burn romance ...then this series will be your next book obsession! 📖✨
Start with Off-the-Charts Chemistry, where Stacey, a brilliant chemistry teacher, finds herself unexpectedly drawn to the new football coach, Reece. Get ready for sparks to fly between these opposites! 💥
Off-the-Charts Chemistry is a lighthearted, fun romance read. Though branded as a STEM romance, it also lives in the sports romance world and blurs the lines between. Growing up in a small football town, this book felt familiar. The family drama, the school drama, the "date your coworker" drama is all very much a real experience, and it made this book and easy homey read for me.
That said, I think the writing style left a little to be desired. There were parts where I wasn't sure of the point of view. Miles jumped around a little confusingly. I feel like there should have been more transitions between chapters and scenes within the chapters.
I enjoyed the time spent reading this one. There is a little spice, contained to a single chapter, but there's a bit of a slow burn up to it, but it is not necessarily a focal point of the plot. 3/5⭐ 2/5 🌶️
A cute, small-town romance featuring the chemistry teacher (Stacey) and the new football coach (Reece), “Off-the-Charts Chemistry” is an easy read with endearing characters. The drama wasn’t over-the-top, but enough to create a little tension and keep you reading.
Billed as the first in a new series, I’m hoping the next books explore the lives of some of Stacey’s fellow single teachers and Reece’s brother, like Abby Jimenez has done with her characters and series.
While the “meet cute” was a bit implausible for me and I’m not a fan of the “she doesn’t know how pretty she is” trope, I did appreciate that the author avoided the easy “chemistry” puns and wrote some sweet characters I’d follow through multiple books.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for early access to this book!
Thank you to Netgalley, Christine Miles and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
A nerdy chemistry teacher and a hot football coach, it was a fun romance! With school drama, best friends, rich parents' power play, devoted teachers and bullying villains.
I felt some words and phrases were repeated wayyy too many times and it kinda irked me. Otherwise, the book was amazing, so were the characters.
I look forward to read the next book of the series.
Thank you NetGalley for an eARC of this book in return for an honest review. This book was so much fun! I loved the quirkiness, the cosiness, and the banter/tension between the characters. Stacey (the geeky chemistry teacher) and Reece (the cool football coach) were so lovable; I was shipping them from the beginning and was so happy with the outcome of their story. I do feel that there were parts of the plot, and areas within the writing that were weak; but the overall enjoyment of the story made up for this. I will look forward to reading the next book by Christine Miles!
This is a fun small town romance!, Stacey is the high school chemistry teacher and she has an instant attraction to Reece, the new school football coach. The attraction is definitely not one sided. As their relationship develops Reece is also in a major conflict that could cost him his job. He definitely wants to stay in town and is determined not to let his enemies win. Stacey is also trying to help him behind the scenes. The secondary characters are interesting and I’m glad to hear we will see them again as this is the first book in a series. This is a cute small town romance!
I wanted to say thanks to Netgalley for this amazing opportunity to read a book in exchange for an honest review. The second I saw the first chapter and realized it was in the third person immediately put me off, personally, I don't like that style of writing so when I saw it I have to admit I didn't want to start let alone finish this book. This book was a 2.5/5 I didn't like the plot or the main character to be honest it wasn't my cup of tea which was a shame because the description and cover of this book sold me I knew it was going to be a hit or miss unfortunately it was miss.
Big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book!
My overall rating for this book is 3.5 stars. I loved the women in stem representation. I also loved that this book didn’t have the typically “third act breakup.” This book was very light and fluffy, and I would recommend it to anyone as a palate cleanser. Reece was dreamy, and I would swoon if I guy ever looked at me and said “you have my undivided attention” the way he does to Stacey. I would definitely be open to continuing this series!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.
Deliciously simple and predictable, “Off-The-Charts Chemistry” offers nothing new to the romcom table but it is like slipping into a comfortable and warm pair of slippers. Filled with some satisfying spice and cute, lovable, and cliche characters makes this book a sweet little read that can easily be devoured in a day.
This was such a fun book! Stacey is an extremely likable FMC, and I adore Coach Caldwell. He has so much to overcome, and I love that she supports him through it.
This book was not as long as I wish it would be, so it was a quick read. With flirty banter and steamy tension between Stacey and Caldwell, it was hard to set down without just finding out what happens next!
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The chemistry teacher and the handsome new football coach meet for the first time in an awkward situation (I won’t reveal how, but it’s funny) They fall for each other fast and their chemistry throughout the book is off-the-charts. The football coach has a lot to overcoming, as his predecessor was treated like a football hero. Some of the locals are ready to run him out their small town.
I loved the plot! Will the football coach win the homecoming game? Will he still be the coach after the game? Is his ex wife going with to ruin his relationship with the chemistry teacher?
So many question and everything gets answered at the end of the book.
This was sweet read. Poor Stacey is completely unlucky in love and Reece is recovering from some major drama. When they least expect it circumstances bring them together. This was a great romcom that ended in a HEA. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
