Every action has a consequence. And for this mystically enhanced vampire every action is too monstrous to face. To burn in the fires of Hell is his destiny. Rescued by Alana, the woman he loves, Michael Malone consents to a unique, mystical healing, something he doesn’t fully trust. He awakens a seventeenth century man who abhors being turned into a vampire. His mystically human son rails against the comfort of a father he desperately needs. Alana remains cautious until all of Michael’s memories are restored. After an unnerving, unexpected showdown with Cyril, his sire, he acquiesces to the final request of the Georgian Council. But it is a brutal To document in detail every kill, every gruesome act as a vampire—in solitary confinement. Will this shatter his reclaimed soul? Will he request death by silver sword? Or is his true destiny only a breath away?
He should be burning in an eternal fire of torture, but he must atone for what he's done. Every cruel act, every impulse, every kill he did as a vampire. Is he strong enough when the memories come flooding back? Picking up where book one left off, Mystical Consequences is an emotionally charged paranormal romance I couldn't put down. The characters pull you into their world. The world-building is exceptional. Michael's journey will wreck you, but in a good way.
Let's start with the emotional narration. Once again, M. Flagg brings you into the heart of the story. There is so much emotion layered into the plot and narration. It makes for an unforgettable immersive experience.
The characters are well-written with complexity and plenty of tension. I connected with Michael as well as Alana. The rest of the cast of characters are fascinating to interact with and fill out the story nicely.
The world-building is some of the best I've seen. The intricate layering of the world and all it encompasses makes for a pleasurable read. Yes, the author stays true to vampiric mythology but adds her own twist to make it her own.
If you're a paranormal romance reader like me, you'll want to read Mystical Consequences. A gritty, emotional tale worth reading. I look forward to the next book in the series.
This is not your typical vampire book, all dark night hunting and blood-thirsty. This is a deeply emotional redemption journey into the psyche of Michael Malone, a 300-year-old vampire, after the tumultuous events of book 1 in the Champion Chronicles. In order to reclaim his humanity, his relationship with his son, and the heart of the woman he loves, he must confront and atone for all the brutality he committed while living under his sire’s spell. But first, he must regain his memories—all of them. The author has created a complex, layered world of dark magic and the forces of good arrayed against it that fits together perfectly. The characters are diverse with varied, necessary talents. The villains are powerful, but perhaps not so powerful as the emotional time bombs Michael is forced to dredge up and confront. That would be hard enough, but his teen son and his lover have also been through an emotional wringer, and everyone must learn to trust again. If you like three-dimensional characters and an emotional rollercoaster with your dark fantasy, this is the book for you. Even though it is book 2, it can be read as a stand-alone.
