The history of the French and Indian War in western Pennsylvania is told in a thorough, methodical fashion neglecting none of the major events of the war in the area. As a western Pennsylvania resident, opportunities abound to immerse yourself in the war, and this book was an excellent resource. The author adds photographs that he has personally taken at many of these sites which reflects his love for the history. An added bonus is that at the end of each chapter, he includes a list of places he's mentioned along with GPS coordinates, physical address, and website. This is great for allowing the reader to find these locations and do their own exploring.

BOTTOM LINE: An essential resource for F&I War enthusiasts.

Robert Dunkerly's "The French & Indian War in Western Pennsylvania" is an interesting book that takes a bit of a closer look at how this war was fought in this region of the country. It also does something a bit unique as well as after each chapter ends we the reader get information on historic sites and markers that are still there after this conflict ended some 250 years ago. As a someone who is familiar with this part of the US & some of these sites, the book itself fills in more blanks on the various people & events that transpired in this timeframe in Western Pennsylvania. This book may not be the best done on the French & Indian War, but it is a decent summarization of stuff which anyone with an interest in this period or part of the country will enjoy.
