Mutated zombies.

Evening of the Mutated Undead is a heart-pounding survival horror novella centered around Jeff, a small-time drug dealer in Arizona. 3.5 stars. A very gooey zombie/ufo apocalypse combo. Lots of fun moments, hilarious dialogue, and gross moments. Jeff was a decent lead, but his character was a bit too haphazard to really connect with, even on a surface level. I feel like the author was setting up something unique, with some great creatures, but it never came to fruition. And the open ending made me just want a ton more from this story. It all just came across very underdeveloped, which is a shame, because it had a lot of great qualities. It’s a very short story, which needed more breathing room to flourish. ‘Nuff said.

Grabbed the paperback to give a go, as this is perfect for Spooky Season.

Reyes delivers exactly what his blurb promises. UFOs, a monsoon-style rain, and zombies covered in mutated eyes. The zombies seem to have been created by the UFOs, but they still act, eat, and spread like a normal apocalypse zombie. The story centers around Jeff, a drug dealer, which may speak to some of his zombie-fighting mettle, but I did find his concern for others to be a bit surprising given his dangerous profession.

The story is short, easy to read, gruesome, but a lot of fun. The eye covered zombies adds an additional layer of creepy as well as some incredibly gross descriptions. I like that the story features the backyard hopping, house ransacking tropes even though the outbreak is so fresh. Plus a quick soda break. Personally a 3.5/5*

fantastic UFO Zombie story!

This novella is fast paced, has the author’s trademark humor and well staged high speed narration. When a UFO invasion triggers a horde of ungodly zombies in Devil’s Hill..only one hero emerges to try and get back to his wife alive! Good start for your Halloween reading. Enjoy!

This is a B-Movie wet dream if there is one!

This short novella is a bite-sized kick in the nads, loaded with eyeball-riddled zombie action.

This story thrives in the way that I can tell a horror lover wrote this. So many elements and great ideas make for a fun setting, an event that creates all sorts of catastrophic violence, and high stakes.

With all of the action I did find myself wanting more out of the characters and feel that with all of these ideas mashed together in this plot that it could have been a better novel with some direction.

Overall I still think this was a fun read.

Evening of the Mutated Undead, the title says it all. Such a fun quick read, Aliens and zombies! I’m in! Story follows a drug dealer trying the survival the horrific evening with mutated zombies starting chaos along with ufo flying around. The story has a lot of horrific scenes which is what you aspect from a zombie outbreak. I really enjoyed this one. E. Reyes is growing and gets better with his writing. I’m excited what he comes out with next.

A horrific mixture of Mars Attacks and Night of the Living Dead that will have you hesitating to scratch any itch.

This short horror novella follows Jeff, a small time drug dealer looking to make a quick score. While meeting up with a client he's witness to a horrible alien invasion that turns everyone around him into eyeball covered zombies. We followed Jeff as he tries to make his way through the zombies, to reach his wife and at the hospital where she works.

Even though the novella is short, I do feel like we get a lot of character development within Jeff. I definitely became emotionally attached to Jeff as a character and that's no small feat for such a quick paced book. He seemed very genuine and his reactions really organic through the novel.

The author himself describes this Novella as a B level movie, and I feel like that is absolutely spot on. I was getting flashes of Mars Attacks as well as flashes of Shaun of the Dead. While it was definitely on the gorier side then either of those movies, it had an underlying feeling of campy horror. And yet, it was still absolutely brutal enough to stick to gorey horror. A super unique quick read that I absolutely enjoyed from start to finish.

The only reason I couldn't give it the rest of the five stars is because there was a couple of conversational dialogue pieces where it felt very unnatural in the way things were worded. But I did enjoy the dialect of the younger member of the book. It was very true to today's kids and how they speak.

Overall, I cannot wait to read more by this author, and I will actually be picking this up on paperback as a shelf trophy.

The author sent me over a free copy of this novella to review!

I'm not big on UFO/alien stories, but this one was quite entertaining! Definitely a 3.5 star rating from me. It was different than any zombie or UFO story I've read before, and the mental image of all those eyeballs was certainly gross. Jeff was an okay leading man, though I wish we'd gotten to know him a bit better so we could connect with him as a reader. That, alas, is an issue with novellas a lot of the time. The story can be great, but there's just not quite enough to bring it over the edge.

The story had some gross parts, which I like, and some funny parts, which I also like. It knew when to be serious, and when to bring in the comic relief. Definitely looking forward to reading more from E. Reyes!

Are you in a slump and in need of a quick read to maybe help you get out of it? Well look no further! Evening of the Mutated Undead by E. Reyes is the perfect read for that slump of yours.

This novella is chaotic just by the cover 😂 an alien spaceship came out of nowhere and starts releasing a virus from the sky, causing humans, animals, and every living thing to turn into a mutated zombies with multiple eyeballs all over their bodies. Yes, eyeballs. It was gross but the perfect type of gross you get from a horror book. Come and meet Jeff, our MC, and follow his not so smooth journey to his gf as navigates through the streets filled with mutated eyeball zombies 🙂

If you’re looking for a good, classic B-Horror /Sci-Fi monster tale, then look no further! This Novela has aliens, monsters, zombies, and grotesque mutations all rolled into one story. The plot is pretty simple-aliens start a sort of chemical warfare that turns humans into mutated zombies with eyeballs growing out of every body part. Which of course means in order to fight these undead mutants, squishing the eyeballs has to be the most common defense. The dialogue is kind of goofy, and it was a bit of a challenge, telling the characters apart. And of course the kill scenes are graphic. This is a pretty quick easy read if you’re looking for a fun monster tale.

4.5/5

This was a wild, gory time, and I loved it. This can be read in one sitting and will make you cringe every time one of those creepy mutated zombies pops up. And human zombies are not the only ones you'll see. Reyes did a great job of making me cringe while I was reading because of how descriptive he was with not only the zombies, but how they were killed. I could hear the sounds he described.

I enjoyed my time with this one. This is my first E. Reyes read and it definitely won't be my last. I definitely recommend this to horror readers.

A UFO invasion has come to town! The spaceships hover over the town and produce bombs. Once those bombs explode, all hell breaks loose! Jeff has 1 thing on his mind, go and save his wife!

This was a fun read! There was humor, gross elements, and best of all...zombies! This felt very much like an episode of Are you afraid of the dark or Goosebumps vibes. Nostalgic! If you want a quick and fun zombie invasion story, pick this up!

This is my second book from E. Reyes and it’s just as fun as the first. A combination of alien/zombie action kept the pages flowing. The story often felt like a B-Movie horror film, and though I wish we knew more about Jeff and Andrea’s relationship, I did enjoy unrelenting mayhem from start to finish! Definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for a short creature feature!

Evening of the Mutated Undead is what happens when you mix UFOs, a small-time dope dealer, and hoards of zombies with eyeballs on every inch of their bodies during a crazy monsoon storm in the summer. Gory, bloody, fast-paced--this was fun to write. I was going to call it The Night the Bombs Dropped, but that sounded too much like a fart party.

This was a super unhinged, yet fun quick horror novella complete with aliens, zombies, lots of eyeballs, and spiders with wings. It gave me 90s nostalgia, goosebumps vibes, but with an adult feel.
