I like the set-up of the book as being organized around office / life skills, and also some things that hold us back. The writers provide examples that are vague enough to apply to any industry but with enough specificity that you can see the issues for yourself and others. Lent to me by HR at my job.
My expectative is big about the book, because include an explanation related the competence. I think is agood guide to improve as a person and manager.
This book is a must-have for anyone who has the responsibility of supervision. I was able to use this book to help lead others and find them resources for the areas they needed to improve. As an example, I had one employee who was always late. Late to work, late to meetings, late to training, etc. In using this book I was able to have a path for correcting the behavior and was able to buy a book and ask her to read it. Today, she is VP of Business Development and Sales for a Global 500 company. Without this resource, I would have likely been like previous leaders and accepted the behavior or terminated her to prove a point to others that I was in charge. Neither of those options was healthy.

Starting with the 3rd edition, I have used FYI for over 10 years with great results. This is a great tool widely used in the corporate world to identify and to develop professional capabilities. In particular, I like the practicality and simplicity of the suggestions to improve upon professional opportunities. Notice that this book is more of a reference material. I do not recommend to read it from cover to cover unless you are developing coaching/mentoring acumen.
Great reference tool! I used this in 2022 while I was trying to come up with goals for my Individual Development Plan at work. This helped open up my eyes to both weaknesses and strengths of mine and I still keep this around to peak at every now and then
