This book is A+++! Its features an old real life Alaskan ghost story about a town in Alaska called portlock where a bunch of unexplained murders, suicides, and deaths keep happening. So the whole town decides to pick up and abandon portlock. The author takes that story and modernizes it with amazing characters that you really get to know and enjoy from the get go. The book is also a romance that has your heart fluttering the whole time as the two characters fall in love with each other even though they are trying not to. It is the perfect spooky season read. It has so much depth to the characters. And gives you this ghost mystery that has you flipping through the pages as fast as you can just so you can understand what is happening. It give such a unique outlook on the original ghost story with little excerpts that give you brief insight into what’s happening with the “ghosts” but only enough to just keep you guessing. It is such a good book and definitely worth reading.

I’m normally a super dark super spicy reader. But Silversking was a pleasant surprise. I saw a few post from the author looking for arc readers and I was intrigued. The way she showed the main characters Elle and Oliver made me really want to read it as soon as possible.
The characters are so. Well written and described that they are super relatable. Like we could be best friends. I love how we get a to know them and their history and back story in bits and pieces as it relates to the story instead of all at once.
The supernatural elements in the books are pretty realistic to me. The descriptions of the effect of the demons on the human psyche really makes you wonder could there be a demon trying to break my mind right now or am I just sad. All in all I love how the relationship between not only Elle and Oliver grows and slowly changes from one of friendship to budding romance. But also the turmoil that Elle and her brother Sam faced with the death of a loved one.

The setting for Silverskin was the biggest reason I wanted to read this one and it was one of my choices when we divvied up the books. It takes place partially in a small remote Alaskan community – access is by ferry. I live in the north so I was excited to read something with similarities in lifestyle to my neck of the woods.
The scenery is beautiful, the ghost stories creepy. I really enjoyed the horror aspects; it reminded me of early supernatural or even x-files- when they had episodes that dealt with local legends and not aliens.
I thought the book had great use of atmosphere. There are interludes that allow us to see how the entities were affecting the townspeople /family/friends and giving the whole situation a more personal feel to our leads.
Silverskin’s story is slow to build though- it’s a character story first and has a pretty emotional beginning when the lead Ellie, already dealing with the loss of her mom and sister, loses yet another important person.
During this time Ellie reconnects with childhood friend Oliver; whom she knew from time spent in Portlock hunting and hiking when younger, and their families had become friends. Oliver’s family runs the guiding camp the she and her family holiday at.
There is a lot of time spent on letting these two characters reconnect during the story over shared grief- through calls and messages and eventually in person. I did like the respectful amount of time the relationship was given, considering the events of their first meet after so many years.
The writing is nice- clear and easily accessible. It has that careful and slow feeling that you sometimes get with a debut, especially one dealing with triggery issues; grief along with affects of the haunting’s- depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. Its very heavy-content handled cautiously.
This is my number one complaint in nearly everything I read so take it with a grain of salt but I did feel the story could use a thinning down, as the page count was a bit high for what it was and some places felt dense in the way the information is given- like the scene with Oliver and the Nantinaq among others. Repetition is a killer for me and some of the info/feelings etc tended to repeat, muddying up the pacing Anyway just a couple of my thoughts. It was very little to detract from the good stuff.
Silverskin is definitely a stepping off book to a series which doesn’t fully resolve everything here but it does really let you get involved with its characters, so ymmv depending on your taste.
Silverskin is a thoughtful story of two people’s journey of healing, set against a creepy backdrop of an entity-haunted Alaskan wilderness.

My first ARC ever and it was incredible!
Throw anything supernatural my way and I will devour it and silverskin was no different, the story building was amazing. With such a jaw dropping beginning, you get scared that it will trail off the further you read but it just continued to build, with each shocking discovery about the truth of the situation.
I adored the character building, and the personalities that each character was given. All of the characters were relatable which helped me to love all of them. The relationship between Oliver and Ellie was incredible, seeing their turmoil over how they wanted their relationship to develop, but for different reasons. And the relationship between Ellie and Sam was perfect too, highlighting the bond between siblings even through heartache and horrific events, they spoke and interacted in a truly human way, without the exaggeration that other books use and I loved this.
The supernatural element was done perfectly, you could feel the anxiety and fear that the characters felt about the demons. I loved that there was a main focus in regards to the supernatural in this book, rather than trying to cram as many elements into the pages as possible.
I was very invested in the story and cannot wait to continue in the sequel.

I was lucky enough to be able to do an ARC read of this book and I would just like to say how well thought out the characters were and lots of reference on backstory which helped give more insight to why they were they way they were.
Alot of suspense can honestly say I really didn't know what was going to happen next, this book kept me reading I became so invested in the story and the characters.
Such a good read and I'm soo excited to wait for the next book I need to find out what's going to happen
4/5 stars purely because at times I did find it difficult to follow the story and didn't really know what had happened and had to go back a reread in parts to fully understand

Silverskin is the best book I’ve read in a long time!
The characters were designed in a way that they are not only relatable, but you feel as though you’ve befriended them. You feel Ellie’s pain, Oliver’s sadness, and Sam’s love for his sister. Their relationships feel like the ones you and I share with our siblings and our partners. The characters have normal conversations, ones that I myself have probably had with my own sister and husband.
The supernatural element was done in such a sophisticated manner. It was woven into the story rather than being tacked on at the end. You can feel the agony caused by the terror the characters face when encountering the supernatural, and you will see this trend continue throughout the novel.
With the twists and turns you never see coming, Cooper has a unique ability to pull you in from the prologue and keeps you coming back for more. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel, and I am excited to see what Caitee Cooper has in store for us.

WOW this book is phenomenal. It hooked me right away and I couldn't put it down. The perfect dark and creepy read I wanted for October, and the romance is perfection. I'm dying to read the next one!

Be warned that this review is likely very biased, but I'll still try to be honest.
As one of the original alpha readers, I read this book three different times, starting with an early draft and ending with the final published version.
While details and pacing changed with each edit, but the soul of this story stayed consistent from the beginning, and that soul is what makes it fantastic.
Silverskin does a lot of things really well, but here are the big ones that I enjoyed most:
1. Dialogue - The characters talk like normal people. And I don't mean by saying "Umm" or "like" constantly, or by swearing excessively. The conversations and banter just feel like...normal conversations. I could easily see myself talking to my siblings in the same way that Sam and Ellie talk. It just feels very natural, which is something I've only seen a handful of other books do well in a way that feels fun and real instead of forced.
2. You Learn With The Characters - I always love it when a book helps the reader slowly piece together mysteries, questions, and information, especially while the protagonists are doing the same thing. You get to have this really satisfying moment where you "solve" the problem right before they do, and then you feel good because you "called" it. I love those. It isn't so much of a puzzle that it pulls you out of the story, but you want to keep reading to get the next piece. This definitely isn't a "mystery" as far as genre, but it gives that little element of having to put hints together, and I find that fun.
3. Good Messages That Don't Beat You Over The Head - Yeah, there are themes that you can apply to your life, see yourself in, and can make you a better person. But the book doesn't feel preachy. Sometimes books that feel like they have a lesson to teach end up feeling somewhat ideological. Each of the characters in this story have flaws, and some of those flaws are ones I see in myself. So I can learn from it, but none of it feels like it's trying too hard to make me learn a moral.
All told, a great read. I look forward to the sequel.

I wanted to enjoy this book. I love Alaska. I love everything about it. I think with a good editor, this book could have some real potential.
I'm going to speak directly to the author here, because my review is not to be mean, or shame, or harm, but to help create a better story.
1. Start to book with the 3rd Chapter (trying to avoid a spoiler). There is too much exposition, and it makes it hard to really get into the book until Chapter 3.
2. Work on incorporating the Alaskan Scenery into the book. There is a lot of telling but not showing.
3. Be careful about being too specific for too long, like in scenes that require some technical knowledge (oxygen levels, etc).
4. Create more emotional pull. I can't *feel* the characters emotions. And I should be able to. Tragic Things (TM) have happened to her, and are happening to her in this book. But it feels lifeless.
5. Work on taking out extraneous text. It feels like there are more words used than necessary to communicate, and that detracts from the emotional aspect of the piece.
Overall, I think with a good bit of work, and a dedicated content (not line or proofer) editor, this could be an exceptional story.

What a fantastic debut book!
Silverskin follows Ellie and Oliver as they navigate life after a horrifying experience.
I was hooked from the first chapter. I actually got goosebumps the writing was that eery and well-done. There were a few parts that were unbelievably creepy. I usually struggle with third person books but this was very well written.
This is predominately a ghost/supernatural story but there is a romantic undertone too which was lovely to see develop as it felt very natural. I loved how the supernatural threat was constant and not just thrown in at the start and end although it did surprise me with the direction it took. It goes at quite a slow pace and then ramps up right towards the end. We get enough detail on the ghosts to be informative without knowing too much and keeping the suspense there.
I do have to ask – what did the pinecones ever do to Ellie? haha
My only criticism of this book is that I felt it was a bit on the long side and some parts felt a bit drawn out. But other than that, Silverskin was the perfect read to get my spooky season started and I am intrigued as to what’s going to happen next for Ellie and Oliver!

This was a 3 days read for me. I can only read at night and let me tell you, it’s all I could think about. Right at the beginning as I was reading I got goosebumps. Caitee writes these scenes that envelope you so entirely that you can’t help but feel as if you’re the main character experiencing everything first hand. The opening scene sunk its claws into me and didn’t let go until I read The End. I loved learning and figuring things out with the characters. I feel as if I know them. They’re my family. It’s takes an incredible talent to make the reader feel connected to all the characters. I felt their fear, sorrow, joy, happiness, courage, and everything in between. I absolutely LOVED the twist we got with the supernatural. At one point I put my kindle down and had breathe. Preparing myself for what could happen. When I came back I was shook. I still think about that twist. I have recommended this to all my book buddies! This is my own opinion and is in no way influenced. I genuinely loved it. I’m sad I have to wait to see what happens next in their journeys but so look forward to reading book 2!

“Silverskin” introduces Ellie Forth, a young woman on an adventure to Alaska with her father and brother. She’s not big on hunting, but she loves the outdoors and her remaining family. Four years ago, she lost her mother and sister in a car accident. She’s trying to move on and hopes this trip might be a fresh start, but the universe has other plans.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is one of those books that crosses through many genres, which I enjoy. The romance is certainly there. However, the supernatural and horror elements stood out a bit more to me. There were parts of this book where I though I might need to wait until the morning to pick it back up (and I mean that in the best possible way). The story is told through two POVs. The first POV is of Ellie which both provides insight into her character and enhances the fear pouring off the pages. Ellie’s a well done protagonist. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is one of those books that crosses through many genres, which I enjoy. The romance is certainly there. However, the supernatural and horror elements stood out a bit more to me. There were parts of this book where I though I might need to wait until the morning to pick it back up (and I mean that in the best possible way). The story is told through two POVs. The first POV is of Ellie which both provides insight into her character and enhances the fear pouring off the pages. Ellie’s a well done protagonist. I really enjoyed this book! Having lived in Alaska for over seven years, it was fun reading about places I’ve been. I don’t usually read paranormal things but this story really intrigued me and had me staying up way too late reading or sneaking off to read when I should have been adulting.
There were times when I wanted to root the characters on, other times when I got frustrated with them (mostly when they wouldn’t just get together even though they obviously had feelings for each other!) The romance seemed to take forever to build up but was perfect none the less! ☺️ I really liked Ellie and Oliver’s characters!
Other than the slip up with the “deputy/sheriff” showing up (Alaska State Troopers provide law enforcement for the state (outside of city police) as the state doesn’t have county sheriff’s offices—or counties for that matter!) I think the book was fun, well written and very creative.
I really hope nothing like The Gate really exists or else I will have to Nope out of there real fast! Haha! Super darn creepy for sure!
Can’t wait to read more books by this author!

Unsettling in the absolute best way possible! Silverskin sucked me into the storyline and had me feeling like I was right there on the page searching for answers and fighting for survival. An emotional rollercoaster filled with dread, fear, love, hope, strength, terror and grit - this was one heck of a ride!
The story takes place in the Alaskan wilderness and is steeped in local lore. What was a nice family vacation quickly turns into a horrifically dangerous situation leaving everyone not only questioning their sanity…but fighting for their lives.
Full of found family, love, loss, action, supernatural beings, Alaskan ghost stories and ancient lore - Silverskin makes for a fantastic spooky season read! I cannot wait to see where the series goes from here and need book 2 asap!

This book was an interesting read. This was definitely a genre shift for me, as I don't read a lot of paranormal romance. But I loved reading this, the lore was really interesting, and the characters were relatable. I had some issues with the overall pacing, especially the romance subplot. The romance between the two main characters is kind of acknowledged in the beginning, but then doesn't really take off till toward the latter half of the story, and I wanted more of it!
But I absolutely loved the way the demons are described, it was almost too realistic for comfort at times, which had me on the edge of me seat in the best ways. I will definitely want to pick up the next installment when it comes around.

So well-crafted. Cooper braids the growing romance and impending world-doom together beautifully; there’s enough warm kisses to keep me giddy and enough spectral suspense to make me keep my lamp on for a while after I’ve put the book down.
So well-balanced. Real-world trauma and anxiety lend to deep, relatable characters without undermining the verisimilitude of the supernatural danger.
So well done. I would never have believed this was a debut novel, and I can’t wait to have the whole debut trilogy.

My time to read is very limited, but it was hard to put this book down. What a cool twist on a real life mystery in Alaska. I loved the author's word choices as she describes places, situations and emotions. I felt like I was in the story, trying to figure everything out as the characters were, feeling the twists and turns of all the relationships, and anxious for them to figure out how to save the world! Very cool book, and highly recommended.

A really fun read! It’s a mix of ghost story, romance, and self-discovery. The descriptions are great and the characters well-developed and likable. I would have liked to know more about the demon Silverskin. The one thing I didn’t realize is that this is part of a series, so a lot is still unresolved by the end. It’s still a good read and a fantastic first novel. I look forward to the next installment.

3.5 stars. I usually don’t read too many supernatural, paranormal books so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel, but I was surprised with this one! I liked it a lot better than I thought I would. Intriguing storyline, well paced and unique elements when it came to the demons. I thought Ellie & Oliver had good chemistry & were well-written characters.
I’ll probably end up reading some more supernatural books going forward!

The story encompasses Alaska and Colorado which the author obviously knows well. And the story itself is just crazy! Demons and Death described and acting like real humans. I sure hope the end of this story is nearly ready to be published. I'm holding my breath!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters really good and so was the writing. It's not often that you see that good of writing on a debut book! My only issue with it is that I think it was too long for me. I don't mind long books one bit, but I'm picky about page length.
This book kind of ended on a cliffhanger. I am super excited to see what Ellie and Oliver do next!

Gripping!
This story pulls you in and does not let go! The characters are genuine and have you caring deeply for them. The plot is intriguing and engaging with unique twists. Some of it felt long and I didn't like that there are so many unanswered questions at the end because I am impatient and don't want to wait for the sequel.

SILVERSKIN is an #SPFBOX read that I was really excited for, and I wasn’t disappointed! Ellie goes to Alaska with her father and brother Sam after the death of her mother and sister for a vacation to stay with family friends and to go hunting. But when something terrible happens to her father, Ellie is forced to confront what may be hiding in the woods.
This is a paranormal romance that is very slow burn with a wonderfully atmospheric Alaskan setting. Think Twilight with slightly older new adult aged characters, but the same eerie sense that you know what’s coming, and a very smooth and readable style. The themes of grief and loss are present throughout, both for Ellie, and also for Oliver, the love interest, who lost his only parent as a senior in high school. I loved the spooky feel of the book, I loved the immersive feel of the Alaskan setting (I just love books set in Alaska in general!) and loved all the characters in this one! 5/5 stars.

A refreshing and highly imaginative story! I loved how character-driven this book was, but the highlight for me was the metaphors. The author takes internal struggles like anxiety and depression and turns them into physical obstacles, making the emotional stakes feel tangible and new. A truly unique read.

Just have to say, some of the best jump scares I've ever read in a book. I was terrified but so enjoying myself at the same time! If you're a Supernatural fan, definitely check this one out. Such a fun ride!

I love this book. I was hooked from the first chapter. Can’t wait for the 3rd book! The characters and setting captivated me and I forgot I was reading a book sometimes. Well done to the writer for making me want more. Even when it was over.

I just finished Silverskin, the first book and I’m downloading the second one now. If you like good solid characters in a book, a whole lot of suspense, and and other worldly creatures, you will enjoy this book.
