At a first glance, this looks like a mere parody of Harry Potter. However, Mashle is way deeper than that. Through sarcasm and humour, the artist explores the power dynamics and the question of belonging and identity. In a society ruled by magic in which people with no magic prowess are captured and those with lower magic status are ostricized, Mash is an anomaly. The character of Mash is created to challenge the authoritarian society whose members abhor difference. The artist paints Mash in a dichotomous manner as he is physically strong, yet he is so innocent. This innocence serves as a moral catalyst. In fact, all the characters who encounter Mash change to the better as if he epitomizes a moral compass that leads them to redemption. Mash's humour adds to the story as the artist explores heavy themes while using laughter. This dichotomy is maybe used as a comic relief as this is a manga afterall not a fully fledged book. Like Harry Potter who is saved by Lily's love, Mash is guided by his love for his adoptive father and friends. This pins him against Innocent Zero, the villain of the story. Zero symbolizes both Voldemort and Kronos in that he is blinded by his power craze to the point of using his own children as pawns in his plan to immortality, just like Kronos who ate his children. Despite his incredible powers, Zero is defeated by our not so "mundane" hero Mash. Maybe, this is the artist way of warning us against having prejudice for what's different. Our differences are not crippling, they are unique, just like Mash who is different, yet so special.
Typical happy ending. Boy with the power of all the friends he has made, defeats the big boss and saves the world! Ohh and cream puffs!!!! LOL. ITS PERFECT! I wouldn’t change a thing!!!!!
This was such a FUN shonen series. I am not a regular shonen reader BUT I LOVED THIS ONE!!!! Mash and his friends were so much fun. The humor was perfection. I recommend this series for people who enjoy over the top humor! It’s not meant to be taken seriously 95% of the time. It’s just fun. The fights in shonen are NEVER really anything I look forward to but I was able to enjoy them in this series. Basically, Mash is awesome. Find out for yourself!
I think we lost the original plot of the story but what I got from this is that the power of friendship and muscles can solve all the world’s problems. We should all be more like Mash.
I tried the flick: it does hurt / The cavalry has arrived! / 0.1 seconds, ladies and gentlemen/ my boy won. He is accepted. He’ll be a patissiere but WHY IS THAT GIRL STILL THERE!

After sixth months I am finally finished. It feels weird to be at the end, but I'm also ready to move on to other series. I did really love this series and I enjoyed the whole thing, including the volumes that didn't stand out as much or had weird, often rushed, pacing. The premise has always been fun, and I loved the wacky characters and sense of humor this series has had the whole time. The humor and absurdity has always been the biggest strength of the books, and I've always loved how creative Komoto has been when it comes to cooking up fights and new ways to exhibit Mash's insane skills. Looking back at the first volume it's insane how far this series has gone, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't even going to originally be as long as it turned into. But I can't complain because I loved reading these books, and I know I'm going to always have a soft spot for it as one of the first manga series I ever read in entirety.
As for this volume in particular, I thought this was a very nice conclusion to the series. I hadn't liked the last one very much, and I was hoping for a strong finish to the series. And even though this book wasn't perfect, and had a lot of cheesy finale tropes, it worked for this series considering that the entire premise was just as an outlandish parody. So having an equally outlandish (and even convenient) ending worked, and I thought it was pretty fun. They really did save the world thanks to the power of friendship, sheer muscles, and cream puffs. So after all of this I decided that five stars is the most appropriate rating for the final volume, not just because of the story, but just because of how amazing the series as a whole has been.

The ending itself was about what I expected from a series like this, and that isn't a bad thing. It was fun to have that moment where all of Mash's friends and acquaintances came to his aid at the end, similarly to what happened with the Divine Visionary exam but on a larger scale. And MOST IMPORTANTLY my question of where the hell Kaldo went was answered. I don't know why that was the detail that bugged me the most at the end, but yeah, I was just afraid Komoto forgot about him or something. But having everyone work together one last time was a lot of fun to see, especially because idea of working together is kind of the biggest theme of this entire series. Sure, Mash did a lot of the main heavy lifting, but he wouldn't have gotten as far as he did without the backup of his friends and the Divine Visionaries, the support of someone like his father, the faith acceptance from Walhberg, and the training and healing from Meliadoul.
The fight against Innocent Zero had a fun ending, as all the other figths have had, and I think it was interesting that it went down an ATLA kind of path for his ending, but seeing that there hasn't been much death in the series at all it was fitting to just throw Innocent Zero and the four oldest sons in prison instead. Part of me feels like it was out of place for Innocent Zero to just give up after everything he did, but I guess when you try to rewind time over and over again and you still get beat up you just crash out pretty quickly. Although I thought it was cute that there was that small moment where him, Wahlberg, and Meliadoul were together. I would have loved a more proper reunion between the three of them, and in general I wish we could have learned more about their backgrounds and their dynamics when they were all training under Adam Jobs, but just that small moment was touching to me. And at the end there was the convenient time rewind, which explains at least why every single character's status is "alive" on the wiki. But it brought my boys Orter and Domina back so I don't care at all. If they're happy then I'm happy. But I certainly wont forget about those Divine Visionaries who were crucified, which was still the wildest and most interesting part of the whole series because it came out of nowhere in a series that up until that point hadn't been too dark.
It was just such a fun ending, and it's really sweet how despite everything, all the characters still have their quirks. Rayne is still obsessed with rabbits, Lance is still completely unhinged about Anna, Ryoh can't stop looking at himself in the mirror, and most importantly, Mash can't figure out how to open a door properly. The ending was pure perfection, and I loved getting to see small snapshots into the more minor characters: Lévis Rosequartz with his brother, Lemon and her new dog, Ryoh being reunited with his wife and son (and the giant picture of himself on the wall), Anna getting back to full health, Cell War and his new job, and so forth. I also love how at the end of all of this it was back where the whole thing started: In Mash's cabin with his family, and without his line again.
Ok now I need to watch this anime, because this series was so much fun and I'm not ready to part with it!
I genuinely feel sad that the series is over but I'm very grateful for the journey! I'm not really a shonen fan, nor am I a fantasy fan at all, but Mashle just hit that perfect sweet spot to me. I loved and enjoyed every single character in this and really enjoyed each volume. It was such an easy, light, fun read amongst all of the more serious things I read.
Spoiler talk from here on out:
Was this series well-written and well thought out? Not necessarily. Sometimes it was a bit slipshod and messy. But I think that adds massively to its charm because it's just authentic. It has heart in spades, and I really enjoyed it. I'm gonna miss everyone so much ;-;
I liked this series more as the Harry Potter parody that it is. A gag manga where the main character may be bereft of magic in a world where status is determined by magic power. It was certainly funny seeing Mash overturn the common sense of his world with the strength of his sinews and overwhelming love for cream puffs. That way, he's like Saitama from One Punch Man, only with more hair.
I think it was when the story started to use the standard shonen manga tropes of a tournament arc and training arc that it started to become less special for me. It was still fun, but it certainly lacked the appeal of Mash running roughshod over the Hogwarts-like boarding school history and customs. The character became less of the rebel he was, a magicless student aiming to become a Divine Visionary, to a more standard protagonist that would fit the Shonen Jump manga mold.
Despite my final impressions at the end of this series, MASHLE: Magic and Muscles remains a hilarious and action-packed manga that is sure to delight fans of shonen manga. The series still features a lovable cast of characters, epic battles, and plenty of humor. If you're looking for fun and entertaining read, MASHLE is worth checking out!
this manga premise is actually too similar with Harry Potter. i don't actually know the reason behind this, is it for mocking or the mangaka actually really love Harry Potter. but i don't really take this way too serious since Mash personality make it up the whole story.
idk if this is only me or everyone feels the same but 163 chapters seems packed and not that easy to read in one day even tho you have free time. i took several times to stop reading this because it's drained. i got the whole point of this manga, but if you ask me 5 spell from this manga, i can't remember it all of them except explomb (lol).
the one thing that i'm not satisfied is the whole back story is not that deep. i'm just having fun reading this, but not even feel pity nor sad when reading the characters back story. that's not even make someone attached with the character except Mash. but point plus for this manga, even tho Mash is not there in several chapters, the manga doesn't seems carried by Mash only, but the whole character.
the humor is actually my taste. even tho they are fighting they are still have time to joke around.
(A review of the whole manga) To be honest, I first found this story through clips of the anime popping up on my Instagram. It seemed fun and light, and I decided to pick up the manga since it was finished. It is very fun and very light and hilarious. I was laughing out loud often in the first few chapters. Mash has such a deadpan expression with such intense power; the difference is hilarious. And I love how he collects friends and allies like Pokemon. And the pacing is amazing. There aren't long fight scenes. Things are over in a chapter or two. I appreciate how succinct this plot is. While the story attempts to form meaningful moments when Mash drops a one-liner or two, they don't hit as strongly because of the generally light atmosphere and tone of this story.
If you're curious, Dot is my favorite. Love a hot-headed dork. And I really love how the Ames' brothers story ends up. Super sweet.
If you wanna check out other stories similar to this, Mob Psycho 100 and One Punch Man come to mind! I've never read those manga, though, so this is more about their anime counterparts.
For fans of this series, this is the ending we've always been heading for and that's fine. This series was never high art, it was silly conceits and gigantic set pieces. I liked this because early on it was dumb and fun with protagonists that were 1/2 a joke and antagonists that were going to play it straight. The scope of this book gradually got bigger and it moved away from its original small premise (poking fun at the world of Harry Potter) and the next thing you know Mash is facing down god-level, globe ending threats. It has been a weird ride, but considering it neatly wraps itself up in 18 volumes I have no problem recommending this one. It's unusual while feeling familiar and never asks too much of the reader. It is a great change-of-pace book and helped me break up my reading when I felt like I was getting stuck in a rut with some other titles. Not a bad job for a book about a kid with no magic trying to survive a world of magic users that want to reject him.
Manga molto divertente, leggero e veloce. Ottimi combattimenti, power up e disegni discreti.
What a way to end a series! I will say that I felt this was the perfect way to end it. While the series was originally slated to be shorter, I felt this was one of those perfect ending to a series which seems so rare. I will be shocked if anyone who enjoyed the series to this point is disappointed in the way it was wrapped up. I feel that more TV shows should take note…because I was completely satisfied with how this ended. Kudos to Hajime Komoto on an excellent story and excellent presentation of the series!
whole series: weak sauce even in the comedy (slapstick bits with mash were the only funny moments) and its trying to be multiple funnier comedies but isnt, then for some reason the eclipse arc COOKS way too late in the game. theres better comedy and theres better satire/parody and theres better stories and theres better characters. but mashle has a surprisingly profound and resonant message of breaking through the impossible/corrupt systems with your fist. i apologize i was not familiar with your game...
As Innocent Zero achieves his ultimate form, Mash faces his father in a final battle for humanity that pits unfathomable magic versus perfect muscular form - but as darkness threatens to engulf reality, it may fall to Mash's other unique gift to save, and forever change, the world. Komoto draws this hilariously goofy yet heartwarming series to a close with bombastic energy and delightfully corny wrap-up. What sort of world awaits Mash and his friends should they overcome the darkness?
mashle is the most stereotypical shonen known to man because it’s supposed to be. it hit the nail on the head. the comedy is perfect, I was constantly laughing even during the final fight and the action was great too. personally I was a huge fan of finn often commentating the fights because do I fuck know what’s going on.
I really love this!! I expected to like it but it exceeded my expectations! I hope the anime keeps getting renewed so I can watch the final arc 🙂↕️🙂↕️
Nice.
After reader Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, I am so happy to read Mashle. Like a breath of fresh air! Hahaha finally an MC with the MC treatment.
No, I’m not comparing because that’d be dumb on my part. It just a different story with nonsense and really good art and good looking characters. I liked it and that’s it.
Mashle is a new gen with the classic stereotypes which is not bad at all.
