Fascinating journey about a Marine grunt's quest for healing the wounds of his war and how he discovered the best medicine of all was tracking down and reuniting with his fellow survivors and with the families of the fallen.
I found Mr. McLean's memoir to be an engaging and poignant memoir. He tells so very well the story of so many Vietnam combatants struggles to reintegrate in American society up0n their return from combat. As a non-combatant Marine of this era who witnessed much of societies antagonism towards returning vets this book brought back a number of memories from this time. McLean's story while unique to him, was not dissimilar to thousands of other vet's stories from this time. Veterans who wanted to forget about their war and just be "normal" again. Another aspect of McLean's story is how he shows us how devastating it was for the families whose son or daughter, husband/father did not return and the price they paid in many cases for this event. This book is very worth the time to read and think about...there is much to consider here.
My brother said I should buy and read the book Found. Written by a college buddie- days of old at Harvard. I found it a great read! Well written and in depth about the times in the 60’s thru to present. I learned much from it about the Vietnam war I was unaware of- and also about the deep and scarring effects of what it causes soldiers….no matter what war.
It is a very worthy read- I highly recommend. Be prepared for some tears….
Like Loon, I was captivated by the vividness and honesty of Jack. Facing his demons- and coming out a great man. And helping so many of his brothers. Wonderful story. Thanks Jack!
