Mythos Academy #0.5-3

Mythos Academy Bundle: First Frost / Touch of Frost / Kiss of Frost / Dark Frost

Rate this book
I am Gwen Frost, and I have a Gypsy gift. It's called psychometry - that's a fancy way of saying that I see images in my head and get flashes of other people's memories off almost everything I touch, even guys. My gift makes me kind of nosy. Okay, okay, maybe a lot nosy-to the point of obsession sometimes. I want to know everything about everyone around me. But even I don't want to know the secrets my friend Paige is hiding or the terrible loss that will send me to a new school - Mythos Academy, where the teachers aren't preparing us for the SATs, but to battle Reapers of Chaos. Now I have no friends and no idea how my gift fits in with all these warrior whiz kids. The only thing I do know is that my life is never, ever going to be the same.. .

My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy -- a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.

But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why - especially since I should have been the one who died ...

""Touch of Frost "is an intriguing start to an exciting new series!" -Award-winning author Jeri Smith-Ready

..".surviving high school means staying alive!" --"New York Times" bestselling author Kerrelyn Sparks

I'm Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I'm going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I'm getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart-the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I'm afraid if I don't learn how to live by the sword-with Logan's help-I just might die by the sword...

Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects-and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I'm also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me? It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can't use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me-and I'm in for the fight of my life.

Mystical reads!

First Frost

A fantastic read!

The only thing she knows is that her life is never, ever going to be the same. . .

A fantastic start to this series. Ugh. I feel for the heroine.

I liked getting to know the heroine before I start reading the series - liked getting a glimpse of personality and family and what happened to her. A good read.

Full of Gypsies, magic, family, heartbreak, truths and myths.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romances/urban fantasy romances/mythology reads.

Touch of Frost

Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but she's determined to find out who killed the mean girl at school and why – especially since she should have been the one who died...

A thrilling start to this mythical series.

Flawless writing. Mythical characters. Fascinating story.

Full of gods, goddesses, champions, family, Gypsies, visions, magic, truths, secrets, creatures and a hint of romance.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romances/urban fantasy romances/mythology reads.

Kiss of Frost

She will find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants her dead...

Now, this where things are starting to heat up... This story had me hooked and on the edge of my seat, waiting anxiously to see what will happen to the heroine.

Full of gods, goddesses, champions, family, Gypsies, visions, magic, truths, secrets, creatures and romance.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romances/urban fantasy romances/mythology reads.

Dark Frost

All she does know is that the Reapers are coming for her...
And she's in for the fight of her life...

Oh God. This book - wow! Be prepared for your heart to stop more than once especially towards the ending of the story.

Full of gods, goddesses, champions, family, Gypsies, visions, magic, truths, secrets, creatures and romance.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romances/urban fantasy romances/mythology reads.

I've read and enjoyed Estep's adult urban fantasy Elemental Assassin series and her Black Blade young adult series. Needing a fill-in read between library holds had me giving this a try. It was just OK. The concept is intriguing - families are descended from myths (gods, goddesses, various lore from other cultures besides Greek) and the children of these families go to a special school between ages 16 to 21 - but I didn't find it well executed. Maybe because I read these first three plus the prequel novella back to back, I found a lot of world building issues that irked me along with too much repetition. I can see why these are enjoyed. There are sword fights, and wolves, and just a hint of teen romance. For me, though, this was just OK.

I love this series! (Did I say I dislike any series so far...? But it's really good!) This series is simple but humorous, the characters' conversations often make me laugh. (And my friend is like: are you mad?) Nevertheless, the plot was in a fast pace, not like some other novels always implying unimportant things. You'll like "oh my gosh, why are there so many troubles in Gwen's life?" Actually, under the name of Nike's champion, she's just like a trouble magnet, there's always reapers around her. But even she complains her life a lot, she still has a positive life attitude, and she isn't afraid to all the danger in her miserable life. The series gets better and better, not only does Gwen become more satisfied with her life, But also the plots get more and more exciting. (I just stuck into the book after reading the first one.). Besides, we won't have too many character in this series to drive ourselves mad. (Some series has so many characters and I can't even remember all of them!) Last but not least, Gwen and Logan's relationship grows stronger and stronger... (Is that your main point?). That may not be vital, but an academy novel will be boring without some romance. (Not including love triangles...they're horrible...I dismiss any book like that.).
So what are you waiting for? Just go and read them! NOW! (Or Nike's champion will come and find you~ I assure you...she's not always a "normal" person...)
Down below are the summaries of First Frost and Spartan Frost. I haven't read them yet because they only available on Kindle...however, I'll read them...someday... (after all the books I own now...)

Having read all of Esteps' Spider books, it was a no brainer picking up this series. I'm always a sucker for the orphaned kid who discovers they are much more different than they evey believed and then they are forced out of their comfort zone to learn how to embrace their differences at a boarding school and there they meet their first love. Although this is an often used trope for YA books (HP anyone), there's a reason, it works. Throughly enjoyed the first couple of books in this series and have the next three or four on order cause I must finish this series!

Book Review: Mythos Academy Bundle: First Frost / Touch of Frost / Kiss of Frost / Dark Frost by Jennifer Estep

Overview
Jennifer Estep’s Mythos Academy Bundle, which includes First Frost, Touch of Frost, Kiss of Frost, and Dark Frost, serves as a compelling introduction to a young adult urban fantasy series centered around the character Gwen Frost. As a Gypsy girl gifted with psychometry—the ability to read objects and their histories through touch—Gwen navigates the treacherous waters of friendship, rivalry, and the mythological world at Mythos Academy. This collection effectively combines elements of mythology, magic, and adolescent struggles, making it an engaging read for both young adults and adult fans of fantasy.

Key Themes
Identity and Empowerment: Central to the narrative is Gwen’s journey of self-discovery and empowerment. As a character who often feels like an outsider, Gwen’s growth throughout the series illustrates the challenges of embracing one’s identity in a world filled with expectations and stereotypes. Estep adeptly portrays Gwen’s internal conflicts and her eventual acceptance of her unique abilities, highlighting themes of resilience and self-empowerment that resonate with young readers.

Mythology and Fantasy Elements: The Mythos Academy series is steeped in rich mythological references that enhance the fantasy setting. The integration of historical figures and mythological creatures adds depth to the world-building, allowing readers to explore a universe where ancient myths are brought to life in a modern context. Estep’s creative incorporation of mythology provides a backdrop for exploring broader themes such as heritage, fate, and the impact of history on contemporary life.

Friendship and Loyalty: The dynamics of friendship play a significant role in the series, particularly in Gwen’s relationships with her peers at Mythos Academy. Estep examines themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the complexities of adolescent friendships, illustrating the importance of support systems in navigating the tumultuous period of young adulthood. The bonds created among characters serve as a source of strength, reinforcing the notion that connections with others are vital for personal growth.

Conflict and Moral Ambiguity: Throughout the bundle, Estep introduces moral dilemmas that challenge the protagonist and her friends, forcing them to confront issues related to right and wrong. The conflicts within the story are not merely physical battles but also ethical struggles that prompt characters to question their beliefs and the consequences of their actions. This adds a layer of complexity to the narrative, encouraging readers to consider themes of justice and morality in their own lives.

Romance and Relationships: Romantic subplots are woven throughout the series, adding tension and emotional depth to the characters’ journeys. Estep navigates the intricacies of young love, including the challenges of attraction, misunderstanding, and the impact of external pressures on relationships. This exploration of romance is relatable for adolescent readers, providing insight into the ups and downs of growing romantic feelings amidst the backdrop of a fantastical world.

Conclusion
The Mythos Academy Bundle is a captivating series that skillfully combines elements of mythology, fantasy, and the trials of young adulthood. Jennifer Estep’s engaging storytelling, coupled with well-developed characters and strong themes, makes this collection a noteworthy contribution to young adult literature.

Readers will find themselves drawn into a world rich with adventure and emotional depth, making this series ideal for fans of urban fantasy seeking both entertainment and introspection. The mix of empowerment, friendship, and moral complexity ensures that Mythos Academy not only entertains but also encourages critical thinking about identity and the choices we make.

This was bundle is a novella and the 1st 3 books in the Mythos Academy Series. This is about a teenage girl w/ some oracle powers (touch magic) whose fairly normal life is turned upside down by some tragic events and by changing schools to a private academy. She learns that there is a war going on, Gods are real, and that she has an important part to play in this. These books follow Gwen's journey as she figures out this new reality and tries to find her place at the academy.
I really enjoyed the charters and how they developed during the story. The plot was interesting and had some good twists. I did find that some of the 'surprise revelations' were too obvious and I as the reader was waiting for the central character, Gwe, to catch up. I think that the clues could have been more subtle and that would have elevated the story. But I still enjoy the series so far and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

If Gwen Frost touched my kindle, her psychometry (Gypsy gift) would revel that I consumed this series. Estep had me at mythology (Spartans, Valkyries, Nike’s champion, Reapers of Chaos, gargoyles, and a Helheim Dagger), YA angst (dead parents, new school), wuv (swoon worth Logan), and fast paced action (solving popular girls murder, finding hidden artifacts, eluding invisible archer, countering a deadly poison, and defeating demonic Loki). Like Vic, Gwen talking sword, you’ll want to stick around for all of the fun.

Leaves you wanting more

It was only recently that Jennifer Estep came to my attention as an author, and I've found myself reading quite a few of her books.
Her stories pull you along so much that it is a great difficulty to put her books down.

For any new readers out there I can only say give her a try. She writes well and is definitely becoming one of my favourite authors.

2.5? My brain has been tired to I needed something easy to read and landed on this bundle. There are aspects to the books that I like, but the romance is so lame and it's a main point of the books. So...?

I love this series so far. I have read this before a few years ago and i loved it. I love the idea of a mythical school for kids with gifts that come from Greek mythology like gods, goddesses, Norse gods, valkyries, spartans, gypsies and etc.

Dear Jennifer Estep,
your Mythos Academie Series was recommended to me(also you are marked as top Author). But from the first book on i felt that some important parts were completely missing:
After i´ve read about 1/3 of book 1(or maybe much less) i could pinpoint every enemy the hero had confrontations with, before they were happening. Also the Endboss is, when he and his minions will act etc.
I appreciate reading books where all happenings are not so obvious.
Its worth reading nonetheless.

Best regards

I enjoyed the plot line however reading it in little novellas that are joined into 1 book SUCKED. Reading the recap of what you just literally read was so boring and then it took her a while to get back into the story. I just wish it was developed into 1 long book with a bit more development.

Just like the elemental assassin series, I really struggle to care about the heroine here. I love the world building, but plot is fairly predictable. It's pretty light and fluffy YA, so I guess it's good enough for what it is.

Bailed after Touch of Frost. I love me some cliches, but this reached a point of silliness I think I've seldom encountered before. Didn't hate it, but didn't feel any great reason to continue on, either. Everything was okay, but not great, from characters to action to setting.
