Pride. Greed. Anger. Lust. Envy. Sloth. Gluttony. It's 300 A.D. and the gods and goddesses of lore command praise from half of Rome, but no one knows their secret – that they are not gods at all, but fallen angels who rebelled against God and were banished to Earth for it. Most of the gods are happier on Earth, spending their days manipulating mortals and reveling in their vices, but some, like Lucifer, crave the chaos that lives at the end of the world. As punishment for his rebellion and desire for sin, Ashur was thrown out of Heaven and now prefers to spend his days drinking far too much wine and bedding beautiful women. He will do whatever it takes to preserve this life of leisure and debauchery – even if that means he must track down and kill the offspring of Lucifer before they can come of age and send the realms into war. A war-like apocalypse between Heaven and Hell that will force the fallen ones to become soldiers once again. Earth’s very existence rests in the hands of a debauched fallen angel, but with his freedoms on the line and whispers of a once-in-a-lifetime love affair on the horizon, Ashur is more motivated than ever to protect Earth from Lucifer’s schemes. Ashur stands guard between Heaven and Earth, but will he alone be enough to save them all?
I thought this was a fantastic interpretation of the different gods throughout time and space. I love all things about angels & demons, gods & goddesses, in all other creatures that could have possibly roamed this Earth. I have to say that we're quite a few things that threw me & kept me on my toes but wow the way that that last chapter before the epilogue went, but My brain is still fried. I just wish that it kept going or or there was another book. Please tell me there's going to be another book, there could be, It could work. S Frasher is a phenomenal author in my opinion.
Firstly I want to thank S for letting me not only be an arc reader but a beta reader for this masterpiece. Secondly you need to read this book! I'm not kidding you will love it!!
If you have books by S before you will know that she is amazing at worldbuilding well this one blows all of her other books out of the water. You are transported back to ancient Rome to find and kill children of Lucifer. We follow Ashur and his band of misfits on their quest to rid the world of darkness.
There are more twists and turns in this book than the world's highest and fastest rollercoaster. The plot twists?! Don't get me started with those. This book will shock you, it will make you smile, laugh, cry and scream but it has to be one of the best that I've read. The wittiness and cleverness of the plot is genius.
I can not wait to read more and wish I could read this book for the first time all over again!
This book goes through the story of Asher. He is a fallen angel who is still trying to right his wrongs. He loves earth and everything it has to offer. I mean everything from alcohol to women to drugs. The world building aspect of this book was amazing. S definitely has a great story building mind! This will take you along this journey of Asher trying to keep the war from starting.
But does he succeed? Will he get to keep all of naughty habits?
So this book isn’t my normal cup of tea, mythology books are always harder for me to connect with because they aren’t my fav. BUT this is such an interesting angle on fallen angels and the love story was hard fought and beautiful. It’s definitely got darker themes because they’re hunting demons but anyone with a love of mythology and mystery will enjoy this book! The ending will knock ya over 😂 Whattttt 😱
Unique grasp on the interconnected ideology of religion and gods from different regions in history. I enjoyed the exploration of interwoven concepts between them. There is a carefree nature to the characters in the face of a more intense story which is cool. Also… the ending was incredibly unexpected. Not all of it, there is good foreshadowing. But parts of it made me pity certain characters. And I won’t say more to spoil it!
This was such a fantastic story of God's and goddesses thru different ideas of their stories. I found myself really getting into the story of the MMC Ashur. I was truly surprised by the plot twist and ending. I didn't expect to find myself crying for a character on a Tuesday afternoon, but that's where I found myself, and I wouldn't change it.
I absolutely loved this book and really hope others do too.
I really liked the Greek gods, angels and demons cross-over, but the story couldn’t quite capture my attention. Some parts I found a bit too slow, but then the ending felt like it was a bit rushed. I reallt thought there would be a sequel or another novel because the story felt unfinished (but that could also be a personal opinion because I tend to dislike open endings 😅)
This is a very good story about the Gods and the apocalypse. The main characters and plot are amazingly written. I am hoping there is more to this story line. This will have you on a roller-coaster of emotions and keep you guessing. Liked this book very much.
I’m so glad I found this author at the everything cozy bookish event! I really enjoyed this book and recommend. It was such an interesting concept that I had to check it out and was not disappointed
