This book drags readers along with the heroine and the hero constantly groaning about not being able to convince each other to break the engagement. Then, the parents decide to get a special license to marry the couple before they can escape. What drivel! This is an accomplished author with many great books under her belt. This isn't one of them.
The Spinster's Club was not helpful; they seemed to be filler to rescue a dull story, and it didn't work. The big scene is when they decide they are in love with each other, and it is sappy (this is just before the GREAT MISUNDERSTANDING).
I finished this book against my better judgment. Fortunately, the author had the sense to end the relationship between Evan and his father, the Duke, as she did. She wrote the Duke as an unredeemable character. As thanks for that mercy, I gave the book a G rating.
