Zabójczo przystojny

Rate this book
Prawdziwa historia zabójczego uroku, paraliżującej paniki i trasy znaczonej krwią.
A on wyruszył w trasę.
Ile jeszcze niewinnych dzieci, kobiet i mężczyzn padnie jego ofiarą, zanim dopadnie go policja?
UWAGA: Ta książka zawiera opisowe relacje z tortur, przemocy i wykorzystywania.

"If they wanted him to be bad, then he'd be so good at it that the world would remember his name forever."

Drop Dead Dangerous is about Paul John Knowles a.k.a. The Casanova Killer. He was a serial killer active in the 1970's and linked to 18 deaths, although he claimed to have murdered more people than that. I personally hadn't heard about him before but I certainly won't be able to forget him and his despicable acts now.

Once again I'm left impressed after reading a true crime book by Ryan Green. This is only my second book by him. The first one was Crimson Petticoats, which I would also really recommend. What I enjoy about Ryan Green's writing is that although it's a nonfiction true crime book, he doesn't just state fact after fact about Paul John Knowles and his crimes but takes us on a ride inside his head and what he may have been feeling and thinking.

It goes without saying that Knowles' tale gets quite disturbing and is definitely not for the faint of heart. Especially when the author attempts to dive inside the killer psyche. I was left unsettled over how he spiraled from robbing houses to raping and killing. Nontheless this was a really fascinating read in what I think is a less-known American serial killer.

As a true crime fan, Ryan Green is one of my favourite authors. Well researched tales of less well known serial murderers are his forte, and the chronological writing style gives the subject's background, followed by their crimes, with no waffle, as with some books, just facts.

If you haven't discovered Ryan yet, and are a true crime fan too, check him out!

W 1974 roku siał postrach, przemierzając Florydę, Ohajo, Nevadę, Teksas, Alabamę, Virginię i Georgię.

Knowles podobno stał się mordercą, w momencie kiedy kobieta, którą darzył uczuciem odrzuciła go.

Good Looking, Charming, Dangerous, Evil Man
I am one of Ryan's ARC team members, so I received the book several weeks ago. I was overseas and only started reading it on 6th October so sorry Ryan for my late review.
Ryan once again did not disappoint me with his meticulous research and the way Ryan captures you and draws you into the book from the first page. Ryans writing style is well-developed. The book is suspenseful, thrilling, and has multi-faceted characters
I had never heard of Paul John Knowles who was born on April 25, 1946. He was one of five children living with his parents in a three-bedroom house. Paul was a violent man with no regard for anyone or anything but himself and his own desires. John was dubbed the Casanova Killer due to his good looks and charming personality. Paul charmed women but in reality, he was a vicious and unrepentant monster responsible for 18 horrifying deaths in the Southern United States in the 1970s.
Paul who loved the open road would burgle and steal a car as needed to be free. Later as things got worse as one burglary ended badly and the elderly lady died, Paul discovered that he had a much darker side and in 1974 he was credited with 18 murders as Paul would kill with impunity, men, women, and children.
This book would be one of my favorites from Ryan. It was suspenseful thrilling and beautifully told. I enjoyed reading about a new serial killer This is a must-read book for true crime readers, and I highly recommend it to other true crime readers as you will not be disappointed.
I am part of the ARC group for Ryan Green, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

DROP DEAD DANGEROUS is about a young man with a rough start in life that gets bad before it gets even worse than that. Paul John Knowles had the looks and charm to make a go of things and turn his life around. However, after being rejected on a doorstep, he goes the other way and becomes a cold-blooded killer.

Admitting to over thirty deaths, charged with eighteen, this story details his beginnings, the journey, and the ending of this killer. Told in Ryan Green's distinctive style, you not only get the facts and figures but also get taken into the mind of the murderer.

A disturbing read, this had me gripped. Absolutely recommended by me for all fans of #TrueCrime.

Once again Ryan Green has the taken the life of a serial killer in this case John Paul Knowles and presented it in an easily readable manner. He is not a just the facts, M'am type of author. He breathes life into the main character of this true crime tale. He gives the reader an opportunity to make up their own mind if the murderer is as despicable as portrayed in other media. Ryan Green gives you a look into what formed the man or in some cases the monster. The very abusive home life. The atrocious treatment to the young boys sent to them for reform at a youth detention center in Florida.
Many women and even men including the police found John Paul charming. The woman also found him handsome. Ryan shows the evolution from his relatively harmless crimes and lenient sentences to progressively less forgiveness by law enforcement and the courts due to his boyish charm when his explosive temper reared its ugly snarly head. But it seemed that a broken heart was the catalyst that catapulted Knowles from petty criminal to a vicious, cold blooded killer that left no witnesses. And he was determined to maintain and regain his freedom when reincarcerated by any means necessary. If violence was needed he used it.
Ryan Green was so great at setting the mood as the reader travels all over Florida and Georgia, out to California and back to the east coast following the trail of bodies left by the Casanova killer.

Pulling back the curtain on the Casanova Killer…

April 25, 1946, ushered into this world a baby boy named Paul John Knowles. The shocking story of that boy’s life is the subject of this book. Whether you call him a serial killer or a spree killer (and both terms have been applied) he was a violent man with no regard for anyone or anything but himself and his own desires. In this riveting examination of the Florida native that the media dubbed “the Casanova Killer”, Ryan Green focuses his signature blend of keenly insightful psychological analysis and his unrelenting investigative research with the smooth prose of a seasoned novelist to provide his readership with a truly mesmerizing biography of a man that was described by many women as “charming” and who one British journalist called “a dreamboat”, and a “cross between Robert Redford and Ryan O’Neal”. He was, in reality, a vicious and unrepentant monster responsible for 18 horrifying deaths. Unbelievably, he claimed credit for more savagery, boasting of killing up to 35 people, but those claims have yet to be fully substantiated. I think that anyone with any interest in true crime, law enforcement, psychology, or history will find this book a captivating read worthy of your full attention.

Ryan Green has done it again! I am a fan of true crime and know that when I read a book written by Mr. Green, I'm in for a disturbing, thought provoking read!

I had never heard of John Knowles, but I don't think I will ever forget him after reading this book. This type of book always makes me wonder just how many serial killers are living among us? How many handsome, charming men are stalking our neighborhoods, looking for their next victim?

Mr. Green has the ability to take facts and weave them together in a way that is easy to read but also chilling. Some true crime books seem to be "just the facts, ma'am", which often makes for dry reading. Not so with Mr. Green's books! And, once again, he has managed to make a true monster seem very realistic and even sympathetic. I always hate to say that I enjoyed a book like this or that I was entertained by it; it is too disturbing to describe it in this way.

If you are a fan of true crime, give this book a try (or any others by the author). You won't be disappointed! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed are my own.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author through LibraryThing. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

True crime has always fascinated me. I had never heard of Paul John Knowles before, so of course I wanted to see what he was all about. He did have a horrible childhood and survived a lot of abuse before he turned 18, but there are survivors of such abuse who don’t turn out to be serial killers. A look into his mind, although the author couldn’t have known what he was thinking, doesn’t show the real reason that he turned into a murderer except that he had no regard for others.

The system also failed him, or society. He was charming which initially led to him receiving no charges or lighter sentences. Once he was sentenced to hard time, he was determined to escape. Eventually, he knew that he didn’t want to go back to prison no matter what. He wanted to be on the road. All these factors led to a fascinating read about a desperate killer on the run.

This is an interesting story, but the pace was a little slow for me through most of the book.

Paul John Knowles, with his casual, bad boy image, handsome looks, and ability to read most people, could have gone far in life. Instead, he chose the road to hell.

Ryan Green seems to see right into this serial killer's soul and what makes him tick. It was interesting to see, at the start, that he actually had a conscience and regretted killing the people that he had killed. We are taken on a rickety roller coaster ride towards death and destruction. At each turn, there are more deaths.

This book was gripping and intense right from the start. The murder scenes are described realistically, and from the point of view of each party.

I felt sad that the killer didn't listen to his conscience, and that he felt that he had to kill all of these people; just for the sake of some money or a car.

I highly recommend this book to lovers of true crime. Warning: the murder scenes are graphic.

Are you a true crime fan but you’re tired of hearing about the same “big name” cases over & over again? Then, why have you not started reading literally any works by Ryan Green?! Hop to it!

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the audiobook of “Drop Dead Dangerous” in exchange for an honest review. Let’s be real. I went into this with high hopes because Mr Green hasn’t disappointed me yet! Well, you can add this one to the list of successes because this receives an overall score of: 5/5 stars + 2/5 on my intrigue scale!

I will admit that I got really nervous when I saw that the narrator was Steve White as we know my feelings about him from the ‘Twelve From Hell’ collection. However, he gets a solid 3/5 stars this time! I don’t know if he got tips, if he was more into this book, or if he’s simply more experienced now but it was a MUCH more pleasant experience this time around.

Gets the adrenaline going....

The author has a way of drawing you in. Of making you feel part of every car chase, of every critical moment, he really gets the adrenaline going. As an avid reader of true crime I always have my head in some book or other and the unique way Ryan Green writes gives his books an edge so many other true crime authors don't have. The content has you asking that age old question of whether crime is nature or nurture and, in this case particularly, willing things to turn out differently. Having read several Ryan Green books I highly recommend them, whether you prefer true crime or fiction his way of telling the story will appeal to both. Thank you Ryan!!

Paul John Knowles, also known as The Casanova Killer, was an American serial killer tied to the deaths of 18 people in 1974, though he claimed to have murdered 35. It is fascinating that he produced hours of audiotapes admitting to crimes, but those are lost. Green engagingly fills in gaps by imaging the killer's interior life and motivations. In a very American setting, cars and open roads are germane to this killer's milieu. Jim Morrison sang,

There's a killer on the road
His brain is squirmin' like a toad

This killer often took to the road and preyed on young girls and elderly women. Green imagines the squirmin' and details the burglaries, lethal sex crimes, and ultimate demise of this lesser known spree killer.

Paul John Knowles was used to getting by on his good looks and charming personality. Often getting lesser punishments for his petty crimes, Paul thought he was living a pretty good life. Burgle a home, steal a car, and go on his merry way until the money ran out and the next town was on the horizon. When things stopped being so easy for Paul and one burglary ended badly, he discovered that he had a much darker side and in 1974 he was credited with 18 murders (he claimed his count was more like 35). Straight forward story of an American serial killer known as the Cassanova Killer.

I received an Advanced copy of this book and once again was blown away by Greens' awesome research and ability to tell the story of a killer from their own perspective. As if you're in the mind if the killer himself. This man could've been so much more if only things had been different for him. His good looks and abilities could've made him a movie star just as he wished to be. Unfortunately it's nature versus nurture sometimes and this poor man lost his potential. His poor victims could have been his fans instead if only he'd taken a different route in life. Mr Green has once again reminded me why he's one of only 2 of my favorite true crime writers.

Drop Dead Dangerous: The Lethal Attraction of Road Trip Killer, Paul John Knowles was a good read by Ryan Green. The US East Coast was sent into a frenzy of fear in 1974. They were terrified of becoming the next victim of the handsome but deadly Casanova Killer. He was released from jail and abandoned by his fiancee. Paul John Knowles commits gruesome murders on a road trip up the Pacific Coast. Unfortunately the killing spree defies detectives. He doesn't have a pattern; he kidnaps, rapes, and murders across multiple state borders. This is a good book for anyone who enjoys reading true crime stories.

Judge by cover

Ryan tends to bring us less mainstream true crime stories and I’m always amazed when I’ve never heard much about Paul Knowles. As soon as I learned he was sent to the infamous Dozier school for boys, I knew exactly where this was headed. But Paul’s story, his brushes with the law, seem more like a Hollywood movie. Nobody has that much luck. Paul realizes this and is slowly becoming the most prolific serial killer. Sadly for him, he isn’t and his life won’t be a Hollywood blockbuster.
