A collection of essays by the author of Killing Hope. I read his monthly “Anti-Empire Reports” at www.killinghope.org. Blum deftly destroys the U.S. government’s claims of fighting for freedom and democracy against those evil terrorists. Strip away the myths, the patriotism, and the rhetorical illusions of the politicians and see the U.S. government for what it really is. Many of you already know this kind of stuff, but I like Blum’s writing, humor, and weary outrage. Anarchists may pause at Blum’s seeming to defend communism, but I don’t know what Blum labels himself as. I read it not as a support for communism, but as a deconstruction of the anti-communism of the U.S. Since “global terrorism” (Al-Qaeda) has replaced the “International Communist Conspiracy” as the modern bogey-man of the U.S., it is instructive to read how the U.S. would go to any lengths to combat the mythical ICC—or claim they were to cover up heinous actions—just as they do now against “terrorists.’ Interesting how anti-communist and, now, anti-terrorist maneuvers always seem to serve U.S. economic and political interests….

I guess I agree with alot of the opinions he has to offer, but most of what he writes is in the "did you know" category and struck me as rather insipid. The "essays" are mostly a paragraph or two, and sometimes a few sentences. Its just not worth the time.
