Even when a volume is building up to the next big part it's still awesome, this series is easily one of my all.time favourites

Okay, I've come up with a way to give my opinion on an individual volume better.

Chapter 106: Formal Audiences - this was okay, nothing exciting but you can see there's going to be a great chance for Rimeru to grow his kingdom further. Solid 3/5

Chapter 107: The Lightspeed Hero - this classic trope reminds me of Saitama where he's just strong and everyone makes a big deal about what's going on around him. I'm excited to see his friendship with Rimeru as I'm sure they will be. 5/5

Chapter 108: The eve of the festival - Nothing crazy here, but I always enjoy Rimeru and his people navigating their lives. 5/5

I... may have too many tags...

The past volumes, only some of which I reviewed due to when I started with Goodreads, have been largely forgettable in the sense of "I don't remember what order things happened in, ESPECIALLY since the anime *may or may not* have followed the manga/light novel in strict order (I haven't sat down with the books while watching the show for direct comparison to be able to tell), owing to considerations of episode/season length and things like the *probably not strictly canon* movie.

This one, conveniently enough, takes place over many of the new episodes that just came out, so I have relatively fresh memory of the first ~2/3rds of the book. This actually seems to be the superior order of consumption for this series, since I had totally forgotten what happened in the prior book when the new season started. Comments on the earlier episodes/seasons complained about how many meetings they were having...

WELL, THAT'S WHAT'S IN THE BOOK(S)! Slime's a reincarnated contractor, not a warrior! Having meetings all day is pretty much his calling! (or, his curse, since that means almost all the heavy-lifting falls on his shoulders...)

Like with most manga adaptations of light novels, this volume appears to have some scenes missing from (or added to?) what's in the anime, though I haven't gone scene-by-scene to spell out which exactly. I think probably the reveal of Hakuro's daughter got shortened/lengthened in the manga/anime, respectively, and possibly a few other scenes are fine but were extended in the anime for comedic value. I didn't *entirely* go in on this volume just to spoil the next episodes in the anime, but it's definitely nice to catch up!

(not that this is really a series I plan to keep around forever—in fact, all the volumes I'd already collected have found new homes through free libraries)

Recommended for fans of the series, though still pretty confusing for newcomers, or anyone who forgot what was happening from before (sorry, free library patrons, but... free!).

Rimuru is accepting the professions of allegiance from all the monster races in the Great Forest of Jura... and sending a lot of them to live and work in his labyrinth. Less monsters on the surface, steady jobs, and a tourist attraction for Tempest.

Also, we've officially name dropped Framea so if you want more Tempest Tourism, please read That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Ways of the Monster Nation.

Then we hear about Lightspeed Masayuki the Hero.

So we learn about a hero named Lightspeed Masayuki and he is built up as this serious threat but I do kind of like the reveal about him as we learn that he is powerful but not in the way you would think. He is just really charming and it is friends that basically do most of the work due to his skills. I do like this twist and I do wonder what they will do with it. This volume is just more build up to the arc as we learn who is going to be placed in the Labyrinth and who is coming to the festival among other reveal.

The build up to the festival continues as well as the constant roll call of past characters come to present themselves before Rimuru. There are a lot of little things that happen that continue to spice up the story even though major events are not happening, yet. Still great fun to read.

Mostly a filler book setting up the next arc.

While the labyrinth sounds cool it's a bit concerning that hi is sending half the monster population there. Not really a fan of that.
