Worst Week Ever! #2

A Pior Semana de Sempre: Terça

Rate this book

After starting his Monday at the ungodly time of 5am, Justin Chase gets a bit of a sleep in today. He needed it, though, what with everything he endured yesterday. Not that he was sleeping in a comfy bed or anything.

His missing cat, presumably abducted by aliens (although between you and I, it wouldn’t surprise me if Captain Fluffykins turns out to be the alien), appeared on the TV screen at midnight. While the TV was unplugged, mind you. Naturally, Justin fainted at this point, which is why he’s woken up on the floor.

Perhaps he should have stayed asleep because the Code Brown incident from yesterday, which should never be spoken of again, has gone viral.

But the show must go on and today’s school photo day!

Justin is keen to break his unintentional school photo tradition. It’s not too much to ask to have one school photo where your eyes are open, is it?

Today’s also the day of the Super Science Spectacular.

‘WHO’S READY TO BE SCIENCED?’
Tuesday was just as much fun to read about as Monday, with the events of Monday creating a domino effect that I expect to compound as the week progresses. While bodily functions weren’t focused on quite as much, scenes of kid friendly body horror added to the humour. I’m not ashamed to say that I experienced schadenfreude while watching Justin unwittingly wander from one excruciatingly embarrassing moment to the next.

I need to spend some time in the Wally Valley Public School Library, where you should be on the look out for a sneaky cameo of Macca the Alpaca and Dharma the Llama. There’s even a book vending machine.

The illustrations remain engaging and funny. I was hoping for as many deleted scenes as there were in the first book but only encountered one; it did feature adorable piglets, though, so all is forgiven.

Mia’s drawings are still brilliant. Is it creepy if I tell you her zombie unicorn is to die for?

description

Justin’s Nan, who I flagged as my potential series favourite in the first book, didn’t have much to do in this one. I’m still holding out hope that she’ll claim her prize before the end of the week, although Mia is definitely a contender.

Justin has now survived Miserable Monday and Traumatic Tuesday. It’s a good thing he wore his lucky undies to school today or who knows what might have happened?!

What’s in store for Wacky Wednesday? I can only imagine. The only thing I know for sure is it won’t be boring.

Very nice book, unexpected ending and more up and down parts than the „Monday“, but overall good experience to read. The book has fun parts, just like a Morse Code to decipher.

A cute book builds on the first in interesting ways - less reliance on the poo humour and the characters start to take more shape.

After his disastrous first day of school in Monday, Justin Chase is back. His father, who is a plumber, is thrilled that Justin's diving board Code Brown experience went viral; he thinks it will translate into money for the business. Justin is angry that Marvin, his arch nemesis and the principal's son, posted all of the horrible things on the internet. Since it's picture day, and Justin hardly ever keeps his eyes open in school pictures, he tries to look his best. He has a new uniform that fits, replacement socks, and tries to comb his hair nicely, but unfortunately uses a depilatory and removes a strip of hair, but fixes it back on with his grandmother's denture adhesive. He's thrilled that the school library has a lot of books, as well as a book vending machine, and he even takes a really good picture. Sadly, the day goes downhill from there. He slips and knocks his tooth out on a urinal, is stung by a bee, pulls off his hair, and generally is injured and uncomfortable. His father comes to school to pick him up, and his truck crashes, but the day is saved when the principal (his girlfriend) proposes. Justin goes to the doctor, the dentist, and the hair salon to repair the damage that the day has done and to get ready for Wednesday. (Which might come out in September, 2024, but I can't confirm it.)

This was as goofy as Monday, and only slightly less gross. I'm going to order the whole series from Perma-Bound, because I think they will be super popular.

A solid follow up from Miserable Monday, here's Terrible Tuesday for Justin Chase. The story is not afraid of verging on the absolute ridiculous and nor is it afraid of naughty poo jokes by the toilet truck load, which I'm sure will delight kids (but make some parents moan ... not another smelly poo joke). This could have been called the Diarrhoea Diaries!

Anyway, what worse can befall Justin Chase after the Code Brown incident on Monday? Well, possibly the fact that his Dad is revelling in the situation and doesn't seem to realise that there is such a thing as BAD PUBLICITY!

Tuesday brings with it the hilarity of substitute teachers and school photos. At some points I was thinking, come on Justin, things actually look pretty good for you, why are you complaining, nd then Amores and Cosgrove would throw in a zinger to turn Chase's little ray of sunshine into a gloomy cloud (or turd).

The format of the book is a lot of fun with a great graphic novel sort of style interspersed with the narrative, cheeky pictures and fun fonts and formats that work with the script.

I also liked some new characters that were brought in here like the librarian and Pierre the crazy school photographer.

I breezed through the book, nicely paced, easy to read, fun and light.

The ending was a little unexpected and shows that we can expect even more craziness for Weirdo Wacky Way Out Wednesday. There's nothing too strange for the Worst Week Ever.

“ There’s Nan, there’s Dad scratching his head, there’s Nickers panting and there’s dog drool heading straight for my eyeball. Oh no , phew! Wait. Oh no, ARGHHHHHH! Splash! This is what Justin Chase wakes up to find on the Tuesday of the worst week ever. Then he finds that he has gone viral on the internet for doing a diarrhoea level poop in a public pool and given the nicknames poo boy and pool boy. He then finds out that it is school photo day and mistakes the hair removal cream that his dad uses for getting rid of body hair for regular hair cream and ends up having a bald stripe where his scalp was meant to be.He then uses his Nan’s denture glue to stick it back in place.Later that day he has had his photo and it was his only perfect photo he ever had but then Marvin deleted them all so that he could get the perfect photo and when they have to retake them Justin has been stung by a bee, regained the bald stripe and lost a tooth in the toilet and he put it in his pocket but not in his mouth (since that would be disgusting) so he ended up having his school photo taken with him as a monster.🫣🫣🫣

Incredible inventive and funny & wild ride. There are many contemporary stories nowadays, that are highly illustrated and are supposed to be wackily funny, describing a kid navigating daily life in school and family and dealing with humiliations. I have come across many of them, some very popular, some better than others, but this book really stands out. I think the entire series deserves more attention, wish it was read more. Highly recommended.

Ich hasse Marvin. Er ist so blöd. Ein Bully - ohne Konsequenzen! ... eher Vorteile.

Tuesday - the 2nd Monday. It takes forever to get to Friday

Justin Chase made it through Monday (barely) & now it’s Tuesday. His cat’s still missing his dad posted an embarrassing video of Justin online

& the story is still funny just like its predecessor

Looking forward to see what happens to Justin on Wednesday
