There once was a poor man and wife who lived next door to the witch. The man got caught stealing vegetables from the witches garden, and she let the man live if he agreed to give her the mans newborn. He agreed, this is how Rapunzel came into the witches care. Years later, a prince heard Rapunzel singing. The two became friends quickly, the prince would tell her stories from the real world. When the two were tricked by the witch, they still found there ways back to each other and lived happily ever after. I think the story could have been told a little quicker. There were a few dull moments, where I felt the details were not needed. I enjoyed knowing where Rapunzel came into the witches life, but I am not sure it was needed.

Rapunzel by Anne Marie Ryan Illustrated by Natalie Hinrichsen was found on the get epic website. This version of the fairytale is appropriate for primary to intermediate grade level students. The text was simple and easy to understand in addition to being cohesive with the illustrations. In the story Rapunzel who was like a princess had golden locks that were her crown and glory. The prince who became her friend was like her Knight and Shining Armor who fell on the bush of thorns and went blind. This version of the fairytale gives young readers a chance to predict what will happen before turning the page.

Rapunzel was one of my favorites growing up! It kind of reminds me of rumpelstiltskin because the witch takes the baby from the family. It is really sad because the Rapunzel is locked in the tower even though she didn't do anything wrong.

Truthfully, this is probably my least favorite version of this tale. It ma be close to the original, but the ending is just…meh. The illustrations are nice, and the witch is as detestable as always but Rapunzel is boring and, and frankly so is the prince. 😅

This book is a classic fairy tale telling of the German story of Rapunzel. There is a lot of talk about how fairy tales always end with happy endings and this version was no different. The last sentence was, "And they lived happily ever after. The End." Although I do agree that children should not learn that all fairy tales have happy endings I do think that it is a common characteristic of many fairy tales in which children need to be exposed to. As children grow older I do think that they should be exposed to a variety of fairy tales including ones without happy endings but in their primary years of learning to read, I think fairy tales with happy endings can be a good starting place.

This version of this book is a hard cover book, which are always good for young children. It has large full page illustrations that include many details for beginning readers. I really enjoyed all the illustrations and the layout of the book. Many of the words would be in different fonts, sizes and shapes. This would allow children to think deeper into the book, about why the author chose to make certain words stand out. Although this book is a very simple retelling of a classic fairy tale, Rapunzel, I believe that it could be used with younger children in an effort to introduce important concepts and characteristics of books and fairy tales.

3.75 Stars This is a nice retelling of classic German tale Rapunzel. I like the story and the picture...but thanks once again to Disney, a real story has been tarnish. I hate to see it but I love the Disney "Tangled" movie story better than the classic telling. It isn't just the humor of the move, but the story. Oh well, we are each entitled to our our opinion. This is still a quality book that children should read or have read to, and then you can compare and contrast this story with the "Tangled" story. Thanks for the Fun!

My daughters love Tangled but Tangled is a heavily Disneyized retelling of Rapunzel. I have a children's book version of Rapunzel which is pretty close to the original Grimm but the illustrations are a bit scary. When I saw this, I thought it was a perfect compromise. The story told in this book is pretty close to the Grimm tale but the illustrations are much more kid-friendly. My daughters enjoyed it and I sense that it will become a requested read aloud.

It was good. Nothing special about it. Read it with the grade 1s and would do it again. Ideal for grade 1-3.
