1.5 ⭐️ The cover is the best thing about this book, and even that isn't great.

The writing was horrible. Truly, I just couldn't get past it. Also, the "I love you" out of NOWHERE. Like what the actual sh!t do you mean, "You know I love you, right?" No, man, I don't know because you were ignoring her until three seconds ago. Huh?

I am flummoxed. I didn't have any sort of expectation about this book going into it, and I didn't expect it to be all that good, but even for a freebie, this was shockingly bad. I love dragon-shifter romances, but this didn't even have a proper ending!

I listened to this one as an audiobook and I'm pretty sure that only made things worse.

This was my first dragon shifter romance, and it won't be my last! Falkor is the alpha of Phantom Fire. Kessily is a lawyer, and they meet at a conference. A one night stand ends up with a positive pregnancy test. Falkor comes back into her life when she least expected it. When Kessily's life is endangered, Falkor will do anything to protect her. This was such an interesting read. I loved learning about the different aspects that made up being a dragon. I look forward to the next book!

This is a well written dragon shifter romance with strong characters in Falkor and Kessily. The author does a great job developing their relationship from a hot one night stand with a surprise pregnancy to so much more. She pulled me in with all the action, danger and suspense as well as the smokin hot chemistry. The story moves fluidly with perfectly painted scenes and is a terrific read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Dragon Shifters with Fated Mates

Ok In this Book the Fated Mates are Called Eternal Flames, but it is the Same Trope with a Different name. Dragons in the book are able to shift into Human form and they can Mate with Humans. Naturally the Main Male Character ends up with a Human Female as his mate 😂 Great Story with a good HEA and the Epilogue is a lead in for the next book, which I am going to get of course.

I really liked this one. The story is quickly paced but you don’t feel shortchanged on details. Falkor , our MMC, comes from a community of dragon shifters who inhabit a mountainous area. One doesn’t typically see a lot of dragon shifters in storylines — it’s usually wolves, or hawks for example— so this was refreshing. Kessily , our FMC, is an attorney working with a local environmental group to protect certain forested areas from unethical mining. The two characters meet at a conference where Falkor is immediately drawn to Kessily. They share one scorching hot night of passion, not expecting to see one another again. But — surprise ( not really)— they do!

The bond/attraction between Falkor and Kessily is great; the sizzling chemistry was really fun to read. So were the sexy scenes! I liked that the two characters had such vivid dreams of one another. I’m not usually a fan of the surprise pregnancy trope, but this was well done.

I did receive a free ARC of this book but the opinions here are my own and were expressed voluntarily.

More of a short story, than a book. Nothing really wrong with it, but nothing to stand out or make you remember it in a week.

This is book one of the Winged Warriors series and the main characters are Falkor, dragon shifter and alpha of the Phantom Fire, a group of twelve immortals created by a god to protect the world, and Kessily Campbell, an environmental lawyer who is fighting cases against those who would seek to make money by destroying pristine wilderness. Falkor is the last of the original twelve warriors, as all the others found their eternal flame, their fated mate, and gave up their immortality to live a mortal life. The first born son of that couple would then take the place of their father as the next immortal warrior, when they came of age. Falkor has always been about his duty and thought after so many millennia, that his turn would never come. The two meet at a conference the Sierra Club were holding and she asks him to her room, wanting a bit of fun and distraction after working so hard she has no time for a relationship. Falkor should only have been able to have a child with a drakaina and he sensed Kessily was fully human, but somehow she became pregnant. All she knows is his first name and nothing else, so she doubts she will see him again, once she figures out she is pregnant, just as she is about to take on a huge case in the wind River Mountains.

So she is completely shocked when she enters a meeting with the new client, to see Falkor there as part of the team. Her mother had told her she should tell the father of the baby about it, whether she wanted him to be part of the baby’s life or not. But she never really thought she would see him again, even if she can’t forget the night they spent together! Unfortunately, the news of her pregnancy is revealed to him, before she can decide how to break it to him and he is unsure who the father is, adamant he can’t be as she is human. That doesn’t go down well and he says things that annoy her immensely and have her kicking him out! He leaves her to be with the father of her baby, not wanting to step on another man’s right to her, but he has made a huge mistake and will not find it easy to get back to her good side! The person trying to build on land near the Wind Rivers Mountain is another dragon shifter, one who Falkor has already run into in the past and one that won’t stop ruining the land all in the pursuit of power and money. Since Falkor is no longer welcome around Kessily, he has his trusted friend Sobek and a new recruit Nadon, to keep an eye on her safety, something he had been doing himself, even before he found out she was pregnant. He had always thought he wouldn’t find his eternal flame, but has to finally admit that Kessily is his and he needs to claim her before she allows another man into her life.

As the court case hots up with Kessily up against a big time lawyer on the other side, her research comes up with the perfect information to put a stop to the illegal construction work. The opposing lawyer knows she has won, but his client definitely isn’t happy about it. She has also heard that the company are going ahead with construction in secret at night and she wants to check it out and get some evidence. So of course she goes off on her own, managing to dump Sobek by going through a back door! This places her in danger and gives her a first glimpse of real life dragons, as three of them fly down to attack her! She soon gets to find out the truth of Falkor and who he is, as he comes to save her. But she has made herself a target for this other dragon shifter and his crew, stopping him from getting ahead with his plans, and he won’t take it lightly! Falkor feels a responsibility to the warriors, but also to Kessily and the baby he finally acknowledges is his own. He has a lot to make up for and it is not something he is used to doing, but they can’t really stay apart, the chemistry between them is off the charts. Changes are coming for the immortal warrior and even the Phantom Fire themselves as modern times call for them and they can’t afford to lose Falkor’s millennia of experience. A nice HEA ending with Falkor and his eternal flame Kessily coming together and getting over their misunderstanding to be closer than ever, as he introduces her to his world. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, with a nice hint of the next pairing ad how they meet. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

FALKOR AND KESSILY

The story is the first in the new Winged Warriors series and will bring Kessily Campbell and Falkor together at a convention. It is to be a one-night stand but will lead to so much more.

Kessily is an attorney for the Sierra Club, taking on environmental issues and protecting the land and wilderness. After her latest case, she will take some much-needed time and go to Wyoming to hike the Wind River Mountain area where she will meet a woman who tells her things that she finds a bit far-fetched—but fate will prove different.

Woman: I am known as She Who Listens
Kessily: Who do you listen to?
Woman: To all the living things. They speak to me.
Kessily: What do they tell you?
Woman: Many things. For instance, they say you are on a great quest.
Kessily: I’m hiking up to the Cauldron of Fire.
Woman: Ah, it is the dragon you seek. He searches for you, as well.

The story is mystery, suspense, and danger, with a bit of a surprise. Kessily and Falkor will meet at a convention and have a night of passion. But they will go their separate ways. How could the fates send him a human as his eternal flame?

“Of course, being with her left me burning for something I could never imagine. Kessily Campbell was his eternal flame.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly, and will have another dragon who has nefarious plans that will destroy the land near Falkor’s area.

Falkor: I have only four words to say to you: not on my watch.
Sarkany: I’m not afraid of you.
Falkor: No, you are far too foolish for that. Heed my warning, boy, you continue this folly at your own risk.
Sarkany: I’m no boy. I’m almost half a century old. I’m a man—a very wealthy man.
Falkor: You’re an overgrown lizard with an inferiority complex. You think you’re all grown up. I think you’ve grown past your prime while I’m still in mine. Stand down, Sarkany. You will not win this fight.

It will bring Kessily back into his life as the Sierra Club attorney will team with Winged Warriors to fight against a developer who wants to bring in high rollers for a casino. When Falkor and Kessily reunite, he will learn something that will leave him confused. Has Kessily experienced a miracle? Where will this news lead them? The story has plenty of action and passion between Falkor and Kessily. Maybe humans and dragons can find their happily-ever-after ending.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Narrated by J. T. Farrell
At the start, I think I was only gonna leave it two stars maybe 2 1/2 but it definitely improved on itself by the end. I like how the FMC is strong and opinionated.
The writing is kind of too explanatory. it’s so much telling and not showing how the author wrote it. It is like being read to as if I am, as a reader, five years old. A kind of a condescending, baby voice, that’s flat and doesn’t change much emotion. How the narrator read it back to us was like having that one kiss in class the teacher picked on because they were on their phone read from the textbook. Especially at the beginning and then I either got used to it or he got better. Was that Thankfully this book was quick and didn’t lag on spots because if this was a 600 page book, I don’t think I would’ve finished it in this writing style.

The sex in here is pretty good 👍🏼. Probably gonna come back at a later date.😏 there is a ton of it also. Almost like it’s in nearly every chapter, if not every.

It’s very much build up romance , where the whole story is on how are they getting together and it ends once they are together and then it’s happily ever after. I Always want more from my books. I want to see, especially because this is a pregnancy, shifter romance. I want to see and read about how they parent the child together, how they grow as a couple, and how she takes initiative, if she becomes a draconian. This is all left very open-ended.

It started to feel rushed at the end, specially of the surprise professions of love to each other that was kind of just brushed off by both of them. Didn’t have significance like it probably should have. It was just like accepted. I think the author spent a little too much time on the fighting or the like feud between the MMC and FMC that just went on too long.

Also, when part I did not like about her pregnancy, was that the morning sickness was only in the morning which is not representative to most pregnancies. It is not an accurate representation of morning sickness cause it’s basically just sickness, while it is different for everybody. Here it was pretty heavily noted that she was only sick in the morning.

This is the first book in a new series. I only read the first book in the Reign of Fire series, and other reviewers mention this is a spin-off standalone series and they thought it may be confusing to readers who didn’t read the prior series. I didn’t have any issues following the workings of the dragon world, so in my opinion this can be considered a standalone.

However, concerning the story and characters, I do have mixed feelings about this book. The passionate chemistry between Falkor and Kessily was immediate and sizzling, the after being separate for a few months a misunderstanding and failure to communicate kept them apart for more months.

I personally get frustrated with this all too common plot device to add angst and drama, and then with the proverbial wave of a magic wand the misunderstanding is cleared up with a short conversation and all the bitterness and anger dissolves away and characters are in love.

The storyline felt a bit choppy to me where it keeps jumping forward by a few weeks or months. It almost felt like it was written that way to stay within a predetermined number of pages or chapters. To me it left some holes in the story that could have been covered with a few more chapters. I think the relationship between Falkor and Kessily could have been explored more than their passionate encounters, arguments and reconciliation.

I struggled between rating this a 3-star or a 4-star and settled on 4 stars because I truly do enjoy the vast majority of Delta James work. Periodically, one of her books just doesn’t work for me, but that is more likely a me issue and doesn’t mean another reader won’t love the same book. I typically rate most of her books 5-stars.

The Phantom Fire are winged warriors. Dragons who became shifters in order to stop the Cherufe. They are elite warriors/ mercs who would ensure the survival of their kind. When they find their perfect female- their eternal flame, they then step down from the Phantom Fire, wed their mate, and when their first born comes of age, their take their parent’s place. Falkor, is the Alpha and leader of the PF and they live in the Wind River Mountains, in Wyoming. Some of Falkor’s men are Nadon, Sobek, Zahran, etc. Kessily Campbell is a lawyer that specializes in eco law. She takes on those that would destroy the pristine wilderness from companies that just want to destroy. She lives with her mom, Meri. With the help of the Sierra Club, they take on these companies and she does her best to stop them from mass destruction that they would do to bring about “progress.” Falkor meets Kessily at an environmental event where Kessily is brought to people’s attention. Falkor and Kessily do more than meet. lol. Sarkeny is a dragon shifter and his company wants to build a casino, hotel and a lot of other stuff on the periphery of the Wind River mountains. F & K meet again and things do not go well because F puts his foot in his mouth, metaphorically speaking. I was so angry at him for this. Sheesh, there is being an Neanderthal and then being stupid and he is pretty much mean and stupid for a while there. I love Sobek for setting him straight. You’ll see how. The book, is like an emotional roller coaster and covers giggles, lols, shaking my head, putting the AC on (for the steaminess), chewing my nails with worry, and wanting to punch something. I can’t wait to read the next book. You had me at dragons. lol.

I normally avoid dragon shifter books, because they don't hit the same as a Delta James dragon shifter romance. Her books actually made me like dragon shifters.

Falkor and Kessily were a great couple. I liked that she was spirited, intelligent, and independent. I liked her relationship with her mother. At some point it was mentioned that Kessily and her mother had been at odds in some way prior to then living together. I would have been interested in learning more about Kessily's past.

The way Falkor reacted to the pregnancy was not surprising. What was surprising to me were the actions he took after he found out. It was absolutely not what I expected from Falkor, or even Sobek.

I enjoyed the way Falkor and Raine interacted. I remember when he found out Zafira was still living in the Reign of Fire series. I enjoyed the battle scenes. This is one time I was satisfied with the outcome of the last battle.

It did feel like all of the loose ends were quickly tied up. I wanted to read about Kessily's reaction to Falkor's story. I wanted her to talk to Raine and ask questions. I wanted to hear what she thought about Dragonwyck. I wanted to read more about Falkor and Kessily after they resolved their issues. I wanted read about how they were going to live as a couple. I wanted to know Kessily's decision about becoming a drakaina. I wanted to read about her transition and first flight.

Although I would have LOVED more of this book, it did turn out to be an enjoyable read. I wish it hadn't ended so quickly. I was glad that Kessily and Falkor got their HEA. I also appreciated the change that was implemented. I am looking forward to the next book.

Kessily Campbell is a dedicated environmental attorney. She loves the mountains, and camps & hikes as often as she can. She wants to preserve the Wind River Mountains so that future generations can experience the beauty & peace of the area as she does. She savors every legal victory that she works so hard to achieve.

At one such celebration, she meets and has a sizzling one-night stand with Falkor. Is that a first name? A last? She doesn’t get much personal information from him; they’re too busy ! After, she doesn’t expect to see him again.

Turns out, Falkor’s full name is not his only secret. He too, thinks what they found together, while very enjoyable, is only temporary… until it isn’t. Falkor can’t get Kessily out of his mind. It doesn’t take long until he’s planning to renew the acquaintance and never let Kessily go.

But those plans don’t go smoothly. There are misunderstandings to overcome, amazing secrets to reveal, all while surviving the deadly interest of someone not pleased with Kessily’s legal work. Will Falkor & Kessily live long enough to have a future?

Delta James makes sure the journey is interesting! This is a worthy addition to her growing list of steamy romance/suspense stories. Falkor is pure Alpha, but almost courtly, in an old fashioned way; totally charming! And Kessily is not afraid to live life on terms SHE chooses; she’s gorgeous, feisty, determined. She’s going to make Falkor work to win her! I was happy to be part of the journey. As always, plenty of steamy fun!

This was a small town surprise baby dragon shifter romance.

Kessily Campbell is an environmental lawyer who works for the Sierra Club. She is brilliant, curvy and strong. She has PCOS and believes she cannot have a child.

Falkor is a dragon shifter who lives in the Wind River Mountains (aka The Winds) in Wyoming. He is the last of the 12 original dragon shifters who comprise the Phantom Fire. The Phantom Fire are elite warriors and mercenaries of the ruling class who were given immortality to ensure the survival of their kind. When the warriors find their eternal flame (fated mate) they give up their immortality and their sons later take their place.

After winning a big lawsuit against a drilling company Kessily goes for a backpacking trip to the Winds. There she encounters an old woman who tells her she will meet a silver dragon and have a child with him. Several weeks later she is in Boulder for an event and meets Falkor. They have a steamy one night stand. Several weeks later she feels ill and takes a pregnancy test, it is positive. Falkor learns Kessily is pregnant but denies the child could be his.

She gets assigned to another big case against a land developer in Wyoming. The developer is a dragon named Sarkany who has had a prior run in with Falkor. Kessily and Falkor reconcile but are attacked by dragons. Falkor has to shift in front of her to combat the dragons. Later Sarkany snatches Kessily and tried to unalive her but Falkor rescued her and finishes Sarkany and they get their HEA.

Kessily believes her PCOS medical diagnosis means she’ll never be able to have children. A fleeting night spent with alpha dragon shifter Falkor proves otherwise. Now Kessily, a savvy environmental lawyer, is pregnant but doesn’t even know Falkor’s last name or how to reach him…until she walks into a meeting and learns she’ll be working with him to stop an unscrupulous developer from building a casino in Falkor’s territory.

Falkor is an immortal shifter who, at 1000 years old, has never found his Eternal Flame (fated mate). Until Kessily. But unlike most of Delta’s shifters who go all in the instant they discover their mates, Falkor is reluctant to claim Kessily. Not only would he have to give up his immortality, but also promise his first-born son as his replacement. But fated mates are just that – fated – and despite the issues they have to work through, Falkor and Kessily can’t resist the pull they feel toward each other.

I liked the opening, where Kessily is given a glimpse of her future by a strange old woman who reveals Kessily’s link to a mysterious silver dragon. And there’s plenty of action – the evil developer is a rival dragon shifter who sets his sights on killing Kessily. The ending, though a happily-ever-after, came far too soon for me. I wanted to spend much more time with this couple. I’ll definitely be reading the rest of the books in this new series.

Are you a fan of the paranormal or dragons? Look no further than Delta James' new series, "Winged Warriors," with the debut book, "Phantom Fire." If you've read James' previous works, you know she always delivers an exciting and captivating story.

The book takes place during the Age of Dragons, where the prophesized extinction of dragons led them to enlist a sorcerer's help to save their kind. As a result, twelve warriors from the ruling clans became immortal dragon-shifters, forming the elite Phantom Fire to ensure the survival of their species. However, magic demanded a sacrifice, and the warriors were forbidden from having a mate until they were willing to give up their immortality for their eternal flame.

At a conference, Kessily, an attorney for the Sierra Club, and Falkor, one of the original twelve Phantom Fire members, meet and immediately feel a strong attraction. They engage in a passionate affair, assuming no consequences could arise due to Kessily's medical condition and Falkor's inability to father a child with a human unless she was his eternal flame. Fate has other plans, and both are in for a surprise. Meanwhile, a company seeks to destroy protected land to build a casino, adding danger to the personal struggles Kessily and Falkor face.

Overall, "Phantom Fire" is a thrilling and emotional read, and I eagerly anticipate what Delta James will bring to the remainder of the series.

Falkirk & Kessily - a new beginning for the Phantom Fire

4.25 stars... a satisfying follow-up to the Reign of Fire series, the old foes have been subdued, and the current generation will be addressed.

Falkor is the connection between the old and the new; he's the link... between the Warrior Queens and his sister Zafira/Zaphira... and between the Phantom Fire and the PNW alphas. He's also overdue to find his Eternal Flame. When he sees Kessily across a room, he realizes his day has finally come... and with it, change.

A different kind of story while still very connected to the larger shifter world, I expect we're opening up the numbers and strength of allies to eventually come together for the resistance.

Kessily is another strong female being added to the mix; Falkor is another strong man of honor. Both smart and capable, e certainly for a curious event that cannot yet be explained. Still, the story felt light to me... it needed more... something. Enjoyable, but on a surface level and it feels like we could have gone deeper and stronger but the author is holding back for some reason.

There's something going on with Kessily's mother, and lots of questions to throw her way. We seem to have wrapped up one little bad guy in no time whatsoever, and the relationship between H/h fell together rapidly too. So many questions left hanging...

A fast and enjoyable read, the story pulls you along comfortably. I'm still wanting just a bit more, but YMMV. And I'm ready for the next book.

This is the first in the Winged Warriors Series. While it's the first, it seemed like Raine/Cooper should have been first because the backstory seemed to be missing. While the author gave a bit it seemed that a lot was missing.

It was slow going up to the start of the pretrial and when Falkor met with Kessily again. Once to that point, it really picked up and I felt for the couple. While wanting to shake Falkor for the way he handled Kessily's news, he calmly listened & only threw a minor drama. For Kessily's part, she stood up for herself & she took that Falkor was a Dragon shifter & everything that went with that. The story moved quickly & the reader started to feel for the couple and then it just ended. The missing information of the back story, slow moving beginning and abrupt ending caused it to only be rated a four. The middle story was good enough to allow the four stars. I'll give the second story a chance. This issues with this may just be trying to get this series started & differentiated from the author's other dragon shifter series. The one bone I have to pick is the author has started using the epilogue to set up the next book in the series rather than giving a bit of an insight of what happened to the couple the reader was invested in. I understand the reason but miss the insight.

I loved this book and what a great start to a new series. Falkor or strong alpha dominant and the head of the origianal phantom fire clan the leader in fact so finding true love is likely not in the cards for him or so he believes. he's lived so long and believes it will never happen. Then suddenly he meets Kessily and things are looking up. Only unexpected things happen that seem impossible and that throws a monkey wrench into his beliefs. Meanwhile they are both fighting a bad guy who wants to destroy the natural beauty of the mountain by building a casino, resort and more tearing up the earth. so they unite in trying to stop him and also work thru feelings and the unexpected event which has them butting heads. Kessily isn't a shy flower, she's a fiesty, strong, intelligent lawyer who isn't going to just roll over for any man who comes along. Falkor is going to have to earn her love and forgiveness.

Great richly developed characters that feel very real in a world that seems to really have dragon shifters walking among us. Loved that falkor is an old world gentleman with manners underneath his fiery alpha man hood and the interplay between them. I love kessily mom who just adds that special touch to the story as well.

I would highly recommend reading this entertaining emotion packed story which will keep u enthralled to the end.

Pretty good start to a new series about a group of twelve dragon shifter warriors who form a group known as the Phantom Fire. These particular dragons are immortal up until they find their mate or Eternal Flame. At that time, they become mortal after swearing their first-born son will be their replacement in the group. Falkor is the only one of the original group of twelve that is left. He is thousands of years old and is the current alpha of the Fire. When he meets his eternal flame at a Sierra Club event and spends the night with her, he is unsure whether he wants to take a human woman as a mate. But does he really have a choice?

Kessily Campbell is an attorney who works for the Sierra Club. She meets a man at a fundraiser in Boulder who she can't resist. Spending one night with him is thrilling, but she didn't even get his last name before he is gone. She never expects to find herself pregnant since a medical condition makes it all but impossible. Having no way to contact the mysterious Falkor, she is resigned to raising the child with only her mother to help. But then she walks into a meeting and finds the man she never thought she'd see again....

You get a little clue to the premise of the next book. Sounds promising. Can't wait. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Readers of Delta James met Falkor in a previous book detailing a threat to the world from an ancient enemy that the dragons stopped with the assistance of the immortal dragon warriors of Phantom Fire… and this is the story of the last or the initial warriors, Falkor. Phantom Fire warriors live in the rugged peaks of the Wind River Mountains, being immortal, but if he finds a female who is his Eternal Flame, or mate, gives up his immortality to wed, promising their firstborn son to carry on that warrior's legacy as a member of Phantom Fire… so when Falkor saw Kessily after she had been the attorney to win a big environmental suit against a company illegally drilling on state land. Both were attending a big environmental fundraiser, with Falkor noticing the beautiful female he had to get to know better… and they had a spectacular single night together… but there was something about her… he couldn't forget her… could she be his Eternal Flame after all these centuries??? Meanwhile Kessily never forgot about him either… more so when she discovered she was expecting his baby….but didn't know where he lived, worked or anything beyond a single name… but will fate intervene to bring them back together… you will need to read this book to see what happens… I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The story is the first in the new Winged Warriors series. This story involves Kessily and Falkor meeting at a convention. It was a one-night stand but has consequences.

Kessily is an attorney for the Sierra Club. She takes on environmental issues. Her goal is to protect the land and wilderness. She is good at her job. Kessily has always believed due to medical issues that pregnancy wasn’t an option. Now she is pregnant.
She gets a new job offer to help fight a casino being built on protected land. Then she meets the father of her baby and her one night stand.
Falkor is an original dragon warrior with the Phantom Fire order. The dragon shifters are tasked with protecting the dragons and land. To leave the order for his fated mate, he loses his immortality and must promise his first born son in his place. He has never found her in centuries. Yet, Kessily does stir him. But he denies the baby because she is human. She must have cheated with a human. But he finally realized she was telling the truth. Now she is pregnant by a dragon shifter.
Good story with heat, chemistry, surprise pregnancy, doubt, fighting for environment, dragons, humans, danger, change and acceptance.

Phantom Fire is a paranormal romance novel by Delta James. It tells the story of Kessily Campbell, a rising star environmental lawyer, who meets Falkor, a dragon shifter, at a conference. The two of them have a passionate one-night stand, but Kessily is not looking for a relationship. However, she soon discovers that she is pregnant with Falkor's child.

Falkor is the alpha of the Phantom Fire, a group of dragon shifters who have sworn to protect the Wind River Mountains. He knows that if he stays with Kessily, he will have to give up his position and immortality. But he is also determined to be a father to his child.

Kessily and Falkor must decide whether to pursue their relationship, even though it means making big sacrifices. They also have to deal with the threat of a mining company that is trying to destroy the Wind River Mountains.

Phantom Fire is a well-written and suspenseful novel. The characters are well-developed and the plot is engaging. The romance between Kessily and Falkor is hot and steamy, but it is also heartwarming and tender. The book also explores the themes of love, loss, and sacrifice. Overall, I really enjoyed the book.

Oh, I smiled. not just human couples that slip-up!

What happens at conference, stays at conference, or does it? Falkor was interested in Kessily from the get go, she's an environmental lawyer on the rise. Let's just leave it at they made the most of being at conference.

Fast forward, and Kessily has accepted a case up in Winter River Mountains where some dodgy business people are wanting to fell a lot of forest. Falkor, as the leader of Phantom Foremost definitely doesn't want that either. And so, there the two of them are on the same side of the judge's bench.

Now things go of track, just a bit; Falkor reacts to a situation, without thinking things through, whereas Kessily digs her heels in as she knows exactly what happen and just exactly who was involved.

Anyway, it rather amusing/interesting watching how unplanned parenthood plays out, doesn't matter that she is a super hot lawyer and his reactions based on behaviour learnt over millennia. 'Luckily" they have a shared enemy to take down.

this is short story with humans and dragons (and I'm not sure what the collective noun is for dragons…).

Kessily Campbell has what she thinks is a one and done fling with the increasingly sexy Falkor. She has PCOS so believes that she can’t get pregnant. Falkor is the head of Phantom Fire, he’s an immortal dragon shifter. Tradition states that when he finds his eternal flame he must relinquish his immortality and give his first born son to Phantom Fire to replace him when he steps down. Unsurprisingly Kessily gets pregnant and Falkor is the daddy. I love Kessily’s mum, she’s an absolute hoot. There was a couple of things that I found questionable. Kessily goes from hating Falkor for his attitude and actions when he finds out she’s pregnant but she forgives him almost immediately with little to no effort on his part and over the millennia it was okay for the first born son of the outgoing member of Phantom Fire to be given to replace him, but Falkor finds that he doesn’t want to do it himself. These issues aside I really enjoyed the book. It’s quite exciting, it lays down the basis of a great series that I’m looking forward to reading. I received this book from BookSirens. I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I adore dragons, and if they are in my books, it is even better. I just love them all, whether they are shifters or snarky dragons, they just work for my reading. Delta James put together a great insta-love, small town, surprise baby romance here in this story. There is a little bit of suspense, some snarky, and a bunch of spicy times. I understand this will be a series, and each book will divulge more about the elite fighting team of Phantom Fire. These dragons are the protectors of their race & the wilderness area, and they are all looking for their Eternal Flame. Falkor is the Alpha of this elite team, and when he crosses paths with Kessily Campbell, he knows in his heart that she is his Eternal Flame. Kessily, an unrivaled attorney protecting the rights of the Sierra Club, on the other hand is interested, but is only looking for a one-night-stand. That night changes the course for both Falkor and Kessily, and much more is at stake than just their lives. I enjoyed this fast-paced, shifter romance for what it was, and will be picking up the second in the series.

'Phantom Fire' is the first in Delta James's new series, Winged Warriors, and it's a great start to her series. It's a story of romance between a human and a dragon shifter and all the trials and dangers they face. Kessily is a brilliant environmental attorney for the Sierra Club and Falcor is a dragon shifter who is the alpha of Phantom Fire. One of their goals is to protect their environment.
Kessily and Falcor meet at a convention and have one night of passion. Never expecting to see one another again, they meet when Kessily is meeting with the Sierra Club and Falcor is also at the meeting, trying to prevent another dragon shifter, Sarkany, from destroying the land.

There is intrigue and suspense when the other dragon shifter wants Kessily killed to get her out of the way. The battles between Falcor and Sarkany & his minions are intense and brutal. I won't give away any deeper details and I highly recommend that you read their story. It's fascinating!

What I Liked:
This was a fun combination of dragon shifters and a surprise baby romance. . It was a quick and easy read. The dual POV was used to good effect because Kessily and Falkor definitely have some communication problems

What I Didn’t Really Like:
I feel like I still have a few questions after finishing. Does immortal just mean not dying of old age and what abilities do they have besides shifting into a dragon? How did Kessily get pregnant when it shouldn’t have been possible? Was it related to her father that left when she was a baby? I have more questions about their future as a couple, but I’m assuming some of those will be answered in subsequent books in the series.

Overall:
If you’re a fan of paranormal romance with plenty of fire (i.e., steamy but also the dragon variety) and surprise babies, you should give this book a shot. It won’t hurt if you’re supportive of environmental activism.
