At an impasse, each of us makes our own choices, stubbornly refusing to give way.

Summer and Skye are identical twins. After a tragic event, Skye leaves for university. Summer is left behind with her dad and sister. The characters are well-rounded in this well-written and twisted story that also has some dark themes. The further you get into the book, the more is revealed about the characters. This is a gripping and easy-to-read book.

I love Diane Saxon, but this seemed far too drawn out. Some unnecessary repetition. I actually thought it was a glitch in the audio as some sentences seemed to be repeated.

This is the first book I read of this author. It took a bit of getting used of the switch from 1st/3rd POV and time frame. It was a bit slow at times. But it picked up and those twists/reveals !! It was shocking !! What a book, definitely recommend !

Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for hosting this book's tour this week and for the FREE EBook to promote and review for Diane.

This was my first time reading a Thriller by Diane so i wasnt sure what to expect but i have to say i really expected more from this one but it left me a little disappointed.

Chapter 1-3 were just too descriptive for my liking with now explaination about the murder or how it happened til Chapter 4 so if started off too slow for me which is why i rated it 4 Stars which is really too generous.

The Characters were interesting to read about. I didnt care for Skye as she seemed too bossy and didnt care about her father's well being only cared about her social life and dont even get me started on her Twin.

The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in the book while reading, especially when the scenery was described.

Overall an OK Thriller but needs works with story building. I will read more by Diane in the future, i just hope her other books dont start off as slow as this one did.

This audiobook was stressful!
Summer and Skye- identical twins separated at 18, when one of them goes missing. Almost 7 years later, a singular clue might be just what the family needs to figure out what happened to her.
This intense, sometimes gut wrenching book would’ve been given 5 stars from me, but the ending got a little ridiculous and long winded. I’m also not a fan of books that have the perpetrator give the whole narrative at the end of why he did what he did.

Otherwise, great read!

First, I want to thank Diane Saxon, Boldwood Books, NetGalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

Oh Snap!! Diane Saxon is back with another twisted story in The Good Twin!! This time around her book is so intense, deep, twisted, sinister, creepy at times and totally shocking twists! It is unlike any book I have read from her because this one goes to the dark side! This is one you will want to put on the top of your TBR pile!

I loved how Diane named one of her characters after Skye her Dalmatian! I just loved that name!

One thing I loved about this book was how detailed Diane was about many facets of the storyline. As a reader there were some scenes that I felt like I was experiencing everything that was going on with the characters. With feeling like that it did bring up some many raw emotions I was feeling.

The Good Twin is jam packed with dark secrets, lots of twists and turns, shocking moments that will leave your jaw on the floor, and heartbreaking moments.

Even though this is a serious book I did see some humor slip in that made me chuckle a little bit.

This psychological thriller was a freebie that I downloaded from Amazon Kindle Unlimited. I was not disappointed at all. I had no problem getting into it. It was easy to read, chilling, gripping, compelling with lots of vivid description which at times were disturbing. There were plenty of twists and turns . In the end all the drama was revealed and I found it to be a good summation of all the twisted events throughout the book. If I am in the mood for another psychological thriller, I will definitely read other books by this author, Diane Saxton.

Great book! Took me awhile as I had it on my tablet to read.
A twin goes missing and after 7 years, a call comes and days she is alive.
The book unfolds from there. The other in who took the call is convinced she is alive though others think it was a prank call. Skye is determined to find her.
The twists and turns, keep you in the edge of your seat . That was awesome.

This had some disturbing scenes, as far as what the ‘good twin’ went through after being kidnapped and held for many years. I thought I knew who the kidnapper was, then thought no, but ….

Diane Saxon's characters are clear and well defined. The absorbing plot builds and the pace quickens with every turn of the page. There are many surprises along the way and I found the outcome most deserving for the chief protagonist. The reader will not be disappointed with the latest book from the pen of this popular author. A thoroughly enjoyable read. My appreciation goes to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me early access to this novel for my honest review.

Wow wow wow!

Skye & Summer are identical twins, inseparable but then they loose their mother. Skye wants to carry on and go to uni, Summer wants to stay home and be with their dad and younger sister. Summer finds herself lonely and needing a friend, which is where she finds LJ, he understands her, he knows what she’s going through and he listens to her.

Can Summer really trust LJ?

Honestly this book if I could give it more than 5 stars I would, it’s literally the best book I’ve read in a very long time. Reading it I felt as though I was watching a fast paced film, turning page after page. My heart pounding towards the end, wanting to know how it ends but also not wanting it to end!

3.75

Almost a 4 but there was something about how often some of the passages were repetitive (I started skimming over them) that nagged me.

Summer & Sky are identical twins who were always by each other’s side. They had the perfect family until their mother unexpectedly passed away and everything as they knew it , crumbled. Skye left to Uni, leaving her at home with her absent father and terrorizer of a twelve year old little sister. Summer needed a way out, she needed someone to talk to, a friend who would understand. It was hard to make friends after her own friends stopped talking to her, nobody wanted to keep hearing about the passing of ones mother, the sulking she always did or lack of a decent conversation. Nobody had anything in common with her, how could she let her guard down, trust someone new.

Except she did. It’s why it happened. How she allowed this person to manipulate her, do terrible things to her, break her down so much, she became exactly who he wanted her to be. Invisible. An empty shell of herself.

The story is told from our two female MC POVs almost in a parallel universe type of way. I really enjoyed each of their stories but at times did find it a little boring. The last 30% of the book definitely kicked it into gear though. The dog helped pushed it from 3.5 to 3.75.

I pretty much figured it out early on but was interested to see how it was going to play out. There were clues throughout the entire story (not that I was looking for them) , so the big “reveals” and “twists” didn’t really have me flabbergasted with my mouth gaped open. All in all an okay read.

This was an awesome book it’s about twins Sky and Summer but there’s so many different aspects of this plot I find it hard to give it a good summary not to mention they have some firsthand POV‘s and some third-party POV‘s but if you like duplicitous backstabbing demented thrillers The Good Twin would be a good fit their mother passes away and sky sticks with their plan to go to college and summer stays home but one of them befriends the wrong person and Summer winds up being kidnapped The dad thinks she just got fed up and left. After a while the dad is remarrying and he and his new wife are on a month-long honeymoon. So when sky gets a strange phone called the night of the wedding it only confirms what she already thought to be true her sister is still alive. It will be left up to sky to find her. This was a Twisted Book Tours Agreat Thriller I love Diane Saxton‘s books she always delivers and I’m a big fan of hers. I highly recommend this book I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

In this compelling psychological tale, twin sisters Summer and Skye hold contrasting views on how to cope with their mother's recent death. One sister, left behind to keep their remaining family together, expresses her disappointment as her twin ventures off to college. As the good twin, Summer hates the idea of Skye leaving her, but she acknowledges that her twin chose to move on with her life. Then, she meets LJ - a stranger she met online with whom she has shared her frustrations and everything about her family. But what seemed a harmless meet-up took an unexpected and frightening turn. The question looms: Can Summer's family rally to rescue her from captivity, or will her abductor keep her trapped indefinitely?

The story switches between Summer and Sky at different times, hinting at the possibility of an unreliable narrator. The dual perspective may sometimes be confusing, and the reader may need to reread the chapter's first few lines to know which POV it was.

The kidnapping trope isn't new in mystery novels; still, there's an intriguing promise as the plot unfolds. Good aspects are seeing the abductor's point of view and the unique telepathic connection between the twins.

Of course, a mystery novel isn't complete without its twists. This book certainly has its share of twists and turns - some predictable, while a few quite surprising.

Yet, it's not without its faults. The author tends to suspend an engaging scenario by interjecting backstories and lengthy descriptions to develop the characters, which can become dull, causing the reader to lose track of the gripping storyline. While I understand that introducing flashbacks within a present storyline is necessary for insight and backstory, the author had created rather long ones. By the time the flashback ended, I forgot a prior scene was being told - even one meant to create tension. An entire chapter even describes one character's step-by-step makeup application used as successive dialogue tags. I find such execution of procedural descriptions too tedious. Typically, repetition in novels creates resonance, but in this case, it was excessive. This particular writing technique contributed to the book feeling monotonous. It was in the middle that the structure became more polished despite the confusing POVs, yet the narrative detours and repetitions crop up intermittently. It would have been better to build up the other characters to create more vital false leads than utilize recurring lines.

Overall, it was an okay read. I love that the book dealt with themes of Stockholm Syndrome and trauma bonds. A poignancy to the story, particularly on sisterhood, left me hopeful. Once revealed, the "motive" gave a satisfying ending that could have been phenomenal if the writing structure had been better. If you're crazy about plot twists, this book is for you.

The Good Twin by Diane Saxon is a dark psychological thriller that explores the unbreakable bond between sisters and the devastating ripple effects of trauma, lies, and obsession. While it had the potential to deliver an emotional and suspenseful story, I found it deeply disturbing and emotionally exhausting, often for the wrong reasons.

The novel centers on twin sisters Summer and Skye, whose paths violently diverge when Summer is abducted by a man she met online, only to find herself imprisoned, raped, and emotionally manipulated for seven horrifying years. The plot weaves between past and present, capturing Skye’s gradual awakening to her sister’s fate while Summer endures a grim existence under the control of her captor, LJ, later revealed to be Jacob, a man with twisted motives tied to their family’s past.

Unfortunately, the story leans heavily into graphic depictions of abuse, rape, and psychological torment, which felt excessive and at times exploitative rather than purposeful. Summer’s suffering is long and repetitive, with each new girl introduced into LJ's cycle of captivity adding to the bleakness. There’s a constant sense of dread, but little in the way of meaningful resolution or catharsis until the final chapters.

Summer, once a spirited and rebellious girl grieving her mother’s death, is reduced to a passive, broken shell for much of the book. Her eventual resistance and escape feel rushed compared to the detailed chronicling of her torment. Meanwhile, Skye’s character oscillates between determined and frustratingly naive, particularly when she questions clear evidence or takes illogical risks.

The book tries to tie the villain's actions to a traumatic past involving his sister, but this backstory felt disjointed and inconsistent. His justification unraveled under minimal scrutiny, ultimately revealing him as an unreliable narrator and murderer, but not in a particularly clever or revelatory way.

There were moments of intrigue, especially the psychic-like connection between the twins, and the scenes involving the coded messages and art, but these were overshadowed by the excessive darkness. The conclusion, while offering some resolution, felt abrupt and emotionally flat, especially after such prolonged buildup.

In summary: I did not enjoy The Good Twin. The relentless abuse, mishandling of serious trauma, and uneven character development made it a difficult and unpleasant read. It may appeal to readers who prefer thrillers steeped in prolonged psychological horror, but I personally found it too grim and gratuitous to recommend.

In 2016 the mother of 19-year-old twins Skye and Summer and their 12-year-old sister Jade passed away. By the October of that year Skye has gone off to university, while Summer has chosen to be the “good twin” and stay at home for a year with her shell-shocked family. The twins are very close and this is possibly the first time the girls have disagreed on something so important. Without Skye to talk to, Summer has found a friend on social media, a good-looking lad called LJ, and after several weeks of confiding in him online, a meet up has been arranged. All too late, she realises he’s not what he seems when she is violently assaulted and wakes up a prisoner, used and abused by a very different man. The family searched for years when Summer simply vanished and have lost hope, except for Skye who refuses to believe her sister has gone. The story alternates between Summer’s story at the hands of her jailer and the present day, 2023, where their father is all set to remarry a lovely lady called Martha. Just before the ceremony, they receive a strange phone call telling them Summer is captive and in danger. A hoaxer or a saviour giving a glimpse at the terrible truth?
This is a dark and chilling psychological thriller that will have the reader constantly guessing at what lies behind Summer’s “friend” and ordeal as the bond between the twins remains at strong as ever. It was fairly easy to guess who the “baddie” was but still fascinating to watch the plot play out, and with a thrilling and dramatic conclusion, this is certainly an excellently told story to keep the reader glued to the pages from start to finish.

I rarely write negative reviews, but The Good Twin tested my patience like no other. The premise had potential, but the execution was infuriatingly repetitive and drawn out.

The biggest issue is the constant repetition. The book circles around the same points—misery, how monstrous LJ is, and his actions—over and over again. It’s as if the author doesn’t trust the reader to understand the plot the first (or even tenth) time. Conversations are another sore point: instead of flowing naturally, each line of dialogue is interspersed with long-winded paragraphs that unnecessarily stretch the story. This made the pacing incredibly slow and frustrating.

By 30% into the book, I had already figured out the “mystery” surrounding LJ’s identity, and unfortunately, I was correct. There was no clever twist or satisfying revelation, just a painfully obvious outcome.

After the “rescue,” the story completely glosses over key questions. Where was the good twin all these years? How did Skye find her? Why doesn’t the family or the authorities ask any questions? These glaring plot holes made the resolution feel hollow and unconvincing. The lack of curiosity or realism from the characters was baffling.

I ended up skimming through large sections of the book, hoping for something interesting to salvage the experience. Sadly, it never came. The heavy-handed, repetitive writing and lack of depth left me feeling disappointed.

I wouldn’t recommend The Good Twin, and I doubt I’ll pick up another book by Diane Saxton in the future. There are far better thrillers and mysteries out there that respect the reader’s intelligence and time.

1/5 stars.

‘The Good Twin’ is a chilling thriller that I devoured in a few sittings. Somehow this was my first Diane Saxon book, despite me following her and her daily prompt to do Wordle! I can tell that this won't be my last one however as I was seriously impressed with ‘The Good Twin’!

It focuses on twins Skye and Summer who are both floundering after the recent death of their mother. About to leave home for university Summer wants to defer for a year to heal but Skye decides she is leaving. Summer ends up very isolated, despite living with her dad and younger sister Jade. So when she makes friends with a local boy over the internet she becomes obsessive in a way about him, leading to her being abducted. Flash forward to the present day and the twins dad is getting married and Summer answers the phone and is told that Skye is still alive but captured. Everyone else thinks it's a prank call but Summer isn't so sure.

The emotions in this book radiated off the page and reading it was emotional as it was packed full of tension, heightened states and horrible situations. I thought the author made a fantastic job with Skye’s character, she felt very authentic and you feel heartsore for her. The psychological impact of her imprisonment was on point and it was clear the author had done her research.

This was a very dark and gritty thriller, extremely well written, terrifically paced and with great characterisation. It was an emotional read, full of great reveals and a brilliant conclusion!

Let me know if you pick this one up.

I absolutely love Diane Saxon as a writer and have read all but one of her DS Jenna Morgan books. This is the first of her ‘stand alone’ books that I have read and obviously will be reading the others! In fact, this week I bought her whole back catalogue at the book launch for The Good Twin! I enjoyed this book and loved it more for knowing the inspiration and acknowledgements in the story too, like little Easter eggs!
The story moved quickly, and had such a gripping story in general. I like the short chapters ‘one more before bed’ always ends up with me churning through another 50 or so pages, I just can’t put it down.
This book is dark, contains some chapters which people might find upsetting and the ending isn’t as happy as the other books of hers that I have read, but thrilling nonetheless. I have devoured this in 2 days😅
I hold books to an extremely high standard - I think I’ve only given a 5 star rating to as many books as I can count on my hands and I’ve already read 3 books in the 13 days of 2024, take that as you will.
Highly recommend all of Diane Saxon’s books, but read this one with some caution knowing that is has some very dark references.

MY THOUGHTS -

Holy moly this one is INTENSE! In the very beginning I thought it might be a tad slow. Whoa, was I wrong! It got intense very quickly.

The character development was excellent, maybe a little too good. Some of these characters I didn't really need to know, if you know what I mean.

This book is dark, and disturbing. So be warned. Bit it just grips you and won't let you go. Its like when you are watching something horrible but you just can't look away. I could not stop reading.
The description are so vivid. I had a picture of everything in my head. It's like they say "I can't unsee that" this book will now forever be in my brain. I can't unsee it. This is a book that I will be thinking about for a long time.

This is definitely an author I want to read more of.

*** - I do feel like a have to put a content warning - there about a million triggers in here. It is pretty graphic and disturbing... But I loved it! LOL

A wonderfully dark piece of fiction to get your teeth into!

Twins, Summer and Skye are all set to go to university together and live their best lives, when tragedy strikes, in the form of their mum unexpectedly passing away. Their father wants the girls to defer for a year and support him, and younger sister, Jade, through this hard time. Summer relents, while Skye decides that she will rebel and go to university as planned. Summer, the good twin, will soon regret her decision as she is 'catfished', with devastating consequences.

The story is told by the twins, each narrating her experiences in timelines that span a number of years. This is dark, twisty and gritty fiction, with some eye opening twists and reveals. This s a book that I highly recommend. The ending is superb and gratifyingly doesn't enter unrealistic Hollywood ending territory!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

Meet twin sisters Summer and Skye. When their mother dies unexpectedly the twin bath make decisions about their future. Skye goes to university but Summer stays at home with her father and younger sister Jade. Told from the POV’s of the twins, 1st and 3rd person and over various timelines.

Briefly, October 2016 and Summer is waiting to meet her internet date LJ. She hasn’t told her father or Skye where she is going or who with. She is not seen again. Fast forward to May 2023. It is 7 years since Summer disappeared and Skye is preparing for her fathers wedding to his second bride. However thoughts of Summer are never far away.

In this deep and very dark physiological thriller we learn first hand what has happened to Summer and how Skye reacts to what she discovers. Well written and with a gritty plot this was a compulsive read full of twists and turns. A moving and emotional rollercoaster with a shocking climax. Great read.

You know when you pick up a book by Diane Saxon that you're getting something dark, that's going to mess with your mind, with family at the centre.
However I would argue this is one of Diane's strongest, best written books yet. It made me gasp, out loud, as one of the reveals was made.
The story focuses on twins Skye and Summer. Summer gets catfished by an older man, and is kidnapped. Her family have no idea what happened to her and assume she's dead.
However, on the day of their dad's wedding, someone phones and says she's still alive.
The story alternates been Skye, and the impact of the phone call, and the first person account of Summer, and her imprisonment, and everything that's happened. I think the psychological impact of her incarceration is particularly well written.
The ending is incredible, the build up and reveal of the truths.
A really gripping read I couldn't put down.

Summer is struggling after a tragic event and usually twin sister, Skye, is there to help. Skye has decided to go off to university, leaving Summer behind. Summer needs someone to talk to and when she finally finds someone it ends up being a terrible mistake.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author so I didn’t really know what to expect. The author does a great job of creating a suspenseful atmosphere, exploring dark themes. The characters and overall story are well written, however I found it slightly choppy and repetitive in parts. I also found it a bit too long and slow paced. The overall story is definitely entertaining though and there are some good twists in the book; I will be looking at reading other books by this author if the reveals are as well done as this one. 3.5 stars. No good deed goes unpunished.
Summer and Skye identical twins with a over protective father, Skye flew the nest after their mum's death to university and Summer remained at home, the umbilical cord was cut.
Seven years on and Skye finds herself with only her dad and younger sister Jade and a new step mum Martha, when the day of the wedding a voice at the end of the house phone will chill the blood in her Veins, where is Summer? where has she been all this time? where is the good twin? why did she just disappear? all these questions need answers.
OH MY GOODNESS this book is one of a kind with plenty of big twists and turns to send you with eyes wide as your turning the pages. I loved this book as it unfolds so much about the characters. I highly recommend to readers its a bonus on your reading list.

Not to sound too pompous but how in the heck does this book have 4.27 stars??? The plot is generic and convoluted, the writing is repetitive and unnecessarily depressing, the characters are unrealistic and unbelievable. Skye not telling the police about her suspicions has got to be the second dumbest thing I’ve ever read in a book, right behind the apparent motivations of “LJ” or “Jacob”. I mean really? Did he hate their dad because he convinced himself their dad murdered his sister or did he hate their dad because she married their mom? And then he raped their mother once, and then twice and their mother never reported it, nor told her husband? What a waste of time this book was. The writing isn’t terrible, I could feel Summer’s pain and anguish but the story itself needed a LOT of work.

My Little Brother was one of those thrillers I felt flew under the radar, so I was pretty stoked for this book.

Unfortunately it didn’t quite make the same impression. 2.75 stars rounded up. I had some serious plausibility issues with much of the book. I’m not one to try and guess a twist but found this book formulaic to the point of guessing the big reveal. It was still well written. Disturbing at times and I would highly recommend checking tw on this one. It’s definitely a great representation of Stockholm syndrome but I found it a bit underwhelming as a thriller. I still look forward to reading more of this author moving forward.

I received an advance review copy for free from NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
