The new series is a spin-off from the Mystic River Shifters series and will even have cameo appearances from some of the characters in that series. Like Mystic River, Otter Cove is a small, isolated community inhabited only by shifters—but shifters of all kinds. This story will be about Annie Grayson and Deke Campbell.
The story’s plot will have Annie learning that there is nothing she can do to override the DNA change from her polar bear to the cave lion she now is. She now feels lost, and out of sorts, and decides she needs to leave Otter Cove and seek a new life in Seattle. But that won’t be something that Zak or Deke can accept.
Pinga: You must accept the things you cannot change. Annie: I prefer to have the courage to change the things I can. Pinga: This is not one of those things. It isn’t possible. Annie: He did this to me, then just takes off. I mean, who does that to somebody? There’s nothing you can do to help me? Pinga: There is nothing anyone can do. You should return to the cave, to your mate.
“Annie may not have yet accepted it, but Deke knew that all of this was meant to be. He didn’t need niceties or rules or permissions. Cave lions ruled supreme among the shifters. He made his own rules. And he had only three rules: he had found her; he would have her; and she was his.”
Annie: I despise you. Deke: I can live with that.
The story is a mystery, danger, and power struggle with romantic suspense. Several alpha shifters realize that a war is coming—and that is why the Shadow League wants Deke and Annie. They have nefarious intentions that cannot be allowed. The chemistry is loaded with angst and passion between Annie and Deke—even if she doesn’t want to accept it, she knows he is telling her the truth, they are fated mates.
Annie: That was amazing. Deke: Yes, it was, but then I have the most amazing mate. How could it not be? Annie: How do you know it was me? Deke: Because I’ve been with other females, and it was never like this. No one compares to you. I have waited for you all my life and not even known that. But now I do. You are mine and I will never let you go.
With trouble coming, Deke must leave her and go on a mission—he is still The Finder. What should have been days turns into weeks and Annie is restless—and foolish.
Annie: You don’t fight fair. Deke: No, sweetheart, I don’t. I fight to win, and you are the sweetest prize of all.
When danger threatens Annie, Deke calls in for help and finds his mate. The story does not end on a cliffhanger, but the things mentioned are a precursor to this series.
Otter Cove, Mystic River, Deke, and Colby seemed to be on the same page about having to do battle with the Shadow League.
I felt for Annie having to go through her transition on her own. Deke did not handle the situation with any level of finesse. I felt like both Annie and Deke found themselves in a precarious position. This was one time it seemed to me like both shifters had to deal with confusing, tumultuous feelings.
I also felt for Annie because her first thought was abandonment. I have always appreciated that the FMC in a Delta James books was strong, independent, intelligent, and self sufficient. The MMC's ultimately come to the realization that they are stronger and better off when they have the FMC standing with them, and not behind them.
I liked that Deke and Annie found one another. I thought they each created their own form of being isolated, and finally discovered that person to lean on.
There were a couple of scenes with danger, action, and suspense, but they weren't scattered through the book as much as they were concentrated toward the end.
I did think the ending was abrupt. I would have liked to have seen Deke and Annie reconnect with Zak and Sienna, and maybe even have a word or two with Colby.
Alas, Deke and Annie were safe for the moment pursuing their HEA, and I had to settle for an intro into the next book. iI would give this book 4.5 stars. That book will prove to be interesting.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via BookSirens.
I read & reviewed Suspicious Mate, & immediately started Unexpected Mate. Another fabulous read from Delta James.
We were introduced to Deke & Annie, in Suspicious Mate; we have their story here, in Unexpected Mate.
This one was unusual. We haven’t seen Deke’s kind before, at least that I’m aware of (& I’ve read a lot of Delta James’ stories!) The shifter that he is, is an interesting blend; there’s an ancient, old- fashioned side to him, as well as a creature remarkably suited to the modern world. He’s been a loner; having & needing no one. We get enough of his history to see why. Then he sees Annie & all that he thought about fated mates is gone. And Annie IS his fated mate.
Annie doesn’t acquiesce easily. Miscommunication results. How they get on the road to overcoming that, gives us our story.
The heat is scorching, but is it enough? And there are shadowy figures that are way too interested in the pair. Are they friends or enemies? The overall story arc for Otter Cove continues; now I have to read Mystic River as well; there are overlapping elements. It seems the Shifter world is as fragmented as the human world. ‘Can’t wait to see how Delta advances the story!!

Unexpected Mate de Delta James Serie Otter Cove Shifters libro 2
Argumento:
This was a small town grumpy/sunshine shifter romance.
I love this series and cannot wait to see how the shifters handle the Shadow League. The author skillfully weaves a story of how two people with abandonment and trust issues help heal each other and become a strong couple. Highly recommend!
Annie Grayson is a polar bear shifter whose father is the alpha of the Akiak clan of polars. Her brother Zak is the sheriff and mated to her best friend Sienna. She owns Grayson's Good Grocery & Mercantile.
Deke Campbell is a cave lion shifter and one of the last of his kind. His parents were hunted down by the Shadow League when he was a child. He was raised by abusive panda shifters. He is a former Ranger and is known as The Finder.
They originally met when he found her campsite and took her back to his cave to claim her. She escaped and went back to Otter Cove. Because of the mating note she transitioned into a cave lion. She left her family and friends and moved to Seattle. She took a day job at Pike Place Market and became the Pacific Northwest coordinator for the Shadow Sisters. Deke was hired by Zak to find her. He finds her in a Seattle bar and reclaims her in a storage room then flies her back to Alaska to his cave. They have a very contentious relationship. She finally decides to chose to be with him and she is taken by a Shadow League operative. He rescues her and they get their HEA.

I tend to read Delta James books as palate cleanser reading for the quick read and juicy smut. This one isn’t my favorite. It’s minimal smut and over-domineering, possessive, spanking, delicious men that I love about her books. However it was still a fun read. Deke is a shifter and the last of his kind. When he sniffs out his mate, a polar bear shifter, he completely overrides her DNA and changes into his species of shifter. Without her consent. Confused and pissed, she goes on the run.
“Cave lions reigned supreme among the shifters and made their own rules. He had only three: he had found her; he would have her; and she was his.”
Deke is a tracker and finds Annie. But he’s not the only one after her… the Shadow League. They’re after blood.
This was a fun and quick read. Just not my favorite from this author personally. :)
Wow Annie and Deke’s story is non stop from start to finish. Deke realizes Annie is his fated mate, unfortunately for him Annie realizes it too, but decides to fight it and disappears. When they finally get together again the sparks begin to fly. As they work through their differences they face another threat from the Shadow League. How it all works out makes for a real page turning read. Can’t wait for the next instalment !.

I loved this story of Annie and Deke. Annie is a Strong minded woman who knows what she wants and is determined to do as she pleases. Deke is a Primal Beast. He sees what he wants so he takes what he wants. These two are Oil & Water. The danger they face, the excitement and the steam make for one heck of story, You can read this as a stand alone but is much more enjoyable if you read all the books previously in this story,
I reviewed an advanced copy of this book via BookSirens.
Annie is not just a curvy, alluring shifter, she is so much more. She is fierce, strong and sensational. Deke has been alone for such a long time that when he finds his fated mate, denial was not an option. He will have all of Annie. Despite being heavy handed, Deke with his complex history proves himself not to be a complete alphahole. Their story was action packed and fast paced. The perfect balance of action and spice. Soo good!!
I love this series. Annie and Deke’s story was one of the best so far. Deke’s background gave him so much character and added so much depth to the overall storyline. Annie’s occupation also added intrigue into what could be next. Their passion was unbelievable and love was there right from the start. It’s just so well done.

So good! Deke and Annie together create a chaotic hurricane of epic proportions. The Shadow League isn't done yet, but so many questions were answered in this book. I was enraptured while reading every single word. It will be difficult to wait for the next story. I am voluntarily leaving a review after receiving an ARC.
Yeah this is a fated mate shifter romance and I really love how Delta James does these. This one has sort of dub-con, and I liked it. Lots of very well done smutty scenes and a lot of action too. Nice HEA at the end.
What an exciting addition to the Otter Cove series! Deke and Annie come together coincidentally when Deke scents his fated mate in Annie. They didn't have the easiest beginning, but that makes their happily ever after even sweeter. There's action, compromise, and courage. This book has everything! I adored this story!

This is book two of the Otter Cover Shifters and the main characters are polar bear shifter Annie Greyson and prehistoric cave lion shifter Deke Campbell aka the Finder. Annie has escaped her father’s compound and now runs a very successful general store in the local town and lives in an apartment above it, now out of her father’s control. She has helped her friend Sienna escape from a bad forced relationship, through the organisation called the Shadow Sisters. Going out for some ice fishing, she hears something and sees a huge creature coming towards her, an apex predator who suddenly shifts into an enormous man, whose certain body part shows exactly what he wants from her. He sticks her over his shoulder and takes her back to a cave in the mountains, behind a hidden metal door, with a keypad entry system, that is his home. He doesn’t say much except that she is his and takes her multiple times, until she is too sore to even move anymore. She is mad at him for claiming her against her will, on his insistence that she is his fated mate and biting her, which she won’t find out for a week or two, changing her into a much more dangerous cave lion shifter like him!
When he leaves her alone in his den, she believes he has abandoned her after having his way with her, so she gets out and uses the Shadow Sister system herself to move to Seattle, leaving her old life behind. She manages to keep hidden there for a couple of months before he finds her in a bar and takes her into a backroom to shag her, having missed screwing her and making her his, to produce his children and help to keep his bloodline going since he thought he was the last of his kind. He had been given the job of finding her, as the Finder, by her brother Zak, but he has no intention of taking her back to him. He will call Zak in a day or so to tell him she is safe, but she will be returning to his home. The plane ride home allowed them to be together again which even she realised she couldn’t resist and also a chance for him to show his more gentle side! They begin to realise they have quite a bit in common, with the loss of their mothers at an early age and not a great upbringing. Zak isn’t happy to see Deke keeping her isolated and thinks he is forcing her to stay with him, but by now Annie has accepted their connection and is learning more about her new inner animal all the time, loving her speed and strength. One issue that is not expected, is the appearance of a large owl shifter, not the healer she saw before in the woods, but her much more evil sister, who wants their blood and to experiment upon them both. There is a link to the Shadow League, who would love to have their DNA and more, to make super soldiers for their own army.
Annie will take a very silly step in stupidity, whilst Deke has to leave to look for a missing operative for an ally of his, which places her in danger, only realising her mistake at the last minute! She needs to wait for a moment of weakness on their part to make her escape and is lucky enough to have Deke, her brother and mate, as well as his allies, to be looking for her and coming to her rescue. Annie and Deke’s cave lion animals are almost impossible to stop and make easy work of those holding her. There is lots of very steamy sex throughout the book, with Annie’s head fighting against what her body wants whenever he is around, especially when he starts to purr at her! He was so set in his ways, thinking he was the last of his kind and not believing in fated mates, that he had never tried to look for one. Now he has found there may be some more of another prehistoric big cat out there, possibly in Scotland, where his name comes from. A tiny teaser for the next book in the series and I look forward to seeing what happens next, and where all these guys are going to be involved. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
First, I really wanted to like this story. I mean really really. Unfortunately, right out of the gate I had issues with it. Second, because this is part of a big, overarching story, you'll need to read this if you want to read later installments. Finally, it's not bad it's just doesn't have the hook of other books in this series and the related series.
Annie is on the run after finding herself in trouble that she has no way to solve. She doesn't want to be found by anyone but especially not the shifter that has forever altered her life. She doesn't even know his name, but she knows she never wants to see him again! Too bad for her because he knows she is his fated mate and he has no intention of letting her go now that he's found her. The war that is brewing is starting to take shape. The bad guys want to capture Annie and Deke for nefarious purposes. Can they survive and make it to safety? Can they find a way to love each other and make a future?
I really liked Annie in the prior installment. She's strong and smart and brave. I found her annoying, rude, and wishy washy in this story. I can totally understand her being angry about what was done to her and even her trying to run from the shifter that did it but her actions didn’t always make sense and just adding on that she knew instinctively that they are fated mates wasn’t enough. It also wasn’t enough for her to think about that fact that she didn’t explicitly tell him no. See, the initial act of him carrying her off to his cave (yes, I mean that literally) is one thing but carrying her through a crowded bar with no pants or underwear on is something totally different. And then there is Deke. At first, I thought he was mysterious but then he just became a mess of parts that didn’t all seam together comfortably. His backstory has some really good parts but the timeframes for everything that happened to him when he was young didn’t totally make sense to me. And then there is the fact that he appears to be incredibly wealthy which is super weird given his backstory. And why did that bother me? Well, he built a really advanced cave in Alaska that I would think someone would have noticed him building since it’s pretty close to the shifter communities. Obviously, people know that it’s there and Annie’s brother found it easily. And then there is the bad guy. I won’t go into the details because it’s the big excitement at the end of the story but the bad guy was a dud in my opinion.
Wait! Didn’t I say the story wasn’t bad? I did say that. The writing is smooth and easy to read and this does push the larger narrative forward quite a bit. I just wish that all of the components fit together without all of the gaps. I will read more from this author because I’m invested in seeing what happens with the shifter war.

I really wanted to enjoy this book. But there were a lot of issues. Be prepared that instead of the Romance this is billed as, this is actually erotica for the first 70% of the book. Very little plot up to that point, most of it consisting of zexytimes, him turning her, zexytimes, her complaining about it, and zexytimes. I’m all for erotica, but I prefer to know what I’m getting into. Here’s the breakdown: MMC/FMC- Deke and Annie POV- 3rd person Genre- Erotica Sub genre- Paranormal Romance Sub-sub genre- Shifters Heat level- erotica. The deed was done repeatedly. The parts were named repeatedly and in great detail. Series? Y Cliffhanger? N, but there’s a teaser for the next book. Cheating? N HEA/HFN? Y Triggers- Dub Con, Non Con, Explicit Erotic Content, Language, Violence. Tropes- Fated Mates, Forced Mating, That’s Not My Leg, Alphahole, Fighting As Foreplay, Rare Breed, Stockholm Syndrome. What I thought- the MMC was a stereotype of the Strong, Silent Type until around 50-60%, when we finally started reading from his POV. Up until then he was a mystery (at best) rather than a love interest. He was still an Alphahole, but at least we could see that he had a personality. I really don’t like the Forced Mating trope. Here, the mating was forced and she was told that no one would help her. This was very frustrating. And it reminds me of the old school way of thought that domestic violence was okay because the victim and perpetrator were married. The justification for the Non Con and Force? They are Fated Mates, so apparently that means that taking away her agency is okay in this ficton. Around 60%, the stalemate (“You turned me!” [zexytimes] “Fated mates!”, repeat) ended when she finally accepted that there was nothing to be done and he actually listened to her anger and acknowledged that she might have reason. Up until then, not gonna lie, I would have DNFd if I hadn’t promised to review this book. Things started getting better, or at least more interesting, at that point. We get some actual plot around 70%, although the crisis could have been avoided if the MMC had just taken a moment to make a phone call. This could have been a decent book if the MMC had just communicated. I’m on the fence about how many stars to rate this. I chose two, ultimately, because if I hadn’t committed to reviewing this, I’d have tossed it aside permanently when it couldn’t hold my interest for most of the first 60%. Verdict- Pass. I received an advance review copy for free and this is my honest, voluntary review.

A shifter that is long believed extinct, newly mated to Annie who once was a polar bear but is no longer
Annie has been mated and bitten and is no longer a polar bear it is now quite apparent that she is becoming an Apex Predator and has been able to change into a Cave Lion, this is a breed of shifter that had long been believed to be extinct.
After she had undergone her first change after she had been mated by the male Apex predator who she had no real information on, only that since she had found her fishing and readying to cook her catch on a small camp fire. The fact that when she wakes and finds herself alone in the cave which means that she had been abandoned so she had run and had left Otter Cove.
Annie Greyson is living her life well away from Otter Cove where she has changed her appearance and was still working alongside the Shadow Sisters helping female shifters in need of refuge or to escape unwanted matches, it is dangerous and she is surprised when she is found by her mate whose actual name is Deke Campbell, although he is better known as “The Finder”.
The coming together again is somewhat tumultuous but there is no doubt in Annie’s mind that he is her fated mate, she has missed him and he her and swears that he will protect her till his last breath and as they get to know each other and return to Otter Cove they begin to make a home together.
However, the Shadow League are an evil entity that are trying to get their grubby hands on any shifters they consider a threat and top of that list seems to be Deke and his mate. Unfortunately, they are not quite as cleaver as they think they are and do not know the resolve of true fated mates and there are none as brave and as born fighters as Deke and Annie.
I guarantee that you will be totally captivated by this wonderful story by Delta James, you will have to read the book in one sitting as it is simply impossible to stop once you begin reading.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Finally, the author returned to her syndicate/northern lights writing style. The story revealed itself rather than being force all the way through. Prior to this, it took a while to get to the story and it got to the point you wanted to skip.
This started with Deke being the typical shifter alpha male with no regard to anyone else including what his mate wants once he finds her. This attitude was explained better than most by the type of shifter he was. Annie wasn't sure she was happy about the change for several reasons. She and Deke actually talked and listened to each other and maybe that's why the "communication" between the two was stronger. There was the prerequisite separation after the initial meeting but once he found her again & they talked, you understood Annie's reasoning better. She wasn't the typical bratty shifter female and had more dimensions. While she's willing to give one the benefit of the doubt she's not a push over. The interaction between Zak, Sienna, Deke, and Annie was hilarious & makes me almost feel sorry for Zak and Deke. The Shadow League also had more dimensions revealed finally. Yes, I'm picturing Updike as an Umbridge twin. All of those insights made you understand the characters and the game pieces on the the board better. I'd wondered in an earlier review the ties if any between the Shadow League and the Shadow Sisters. There are a few trains of thoughts I've got & wondering which way the author will go. The author went more into the Prehistoric shifters and why they behave the way they do. Hopefully more cave lions will be found & we get to see the angst with them creating a pack rather than them being isolated. Yes, I'm rooting for a velociraptor to have survived.
Overall, this book revealed more finally. More of the Shadow League, insight into the prehistoric shifters, a strong non whiny female lead, an alpha male who can do more than demand and tell but will talk and listen, hints about the ties between or how the Shadow Sisters are interwoven with the Shadow League, more insight into Colby. The reveal has helped keep things interesting.

Part of the Otter Cove Shifters series each can be read as a standalone with a shifter who can be deadly when needed and the one who can stop him dad in his tracks so to speak 😊. We are talking about extinct shifters Annie is a sweetheart for the most part she was a polar bear but after she was bitten by apex predator now changing into a cave lion a breed that no longer exist undergoing her first shift waking up in a cave alone after being abandoned isn’t easy on her but she must move on and going on with life isn’t easy but she must continue living so working with her sisters who help females who need help in escaping unwanted matches and it is dangerous work but someone must help so to say she is surprised when a man who claims to be her mate finds her is an understatement. Deke sexy as all get out predator know as the finder who has searched for his mate for a while so when he finds her he will do everything in his power to protect, keep, make sure she is feels wanted, and above all love her but what neither of them counted on the very people she works for aren’t good at all in fact they are evil and they are out to get rid of any shifters they deem are dangerous starting with him and his mate at the top of the list so now they must fight for their love, their life but being natural born fighters the Shadow League is in for a fight but who will win, will other shifters suffer (hopefully …..just saying evil), and will they find the happiness they have searched for in each other for so long?
Again, Author Delta James knows exactly how to thoroughly entertain her readers with her fantastic shifter/ steamy romance/ fated mates world stories. This time around readers are tantalised by Deke, a prehistoric cave lion and ex- Army Ranger and Annie, a polar bear soon to be a cave lion she cat. As usual fantastic characters that will simply draw you into these creative shifter worlds and leave you hungry for so much more.
As much as you could read this book on its own I honestly believe it is far better to read it within the entirety of the series getting a complete image of the bigger and more in-depth plotline that surrounds the whole series. Characters from previous books helps to really strengthen the whole plot making it so much more pleasurable as a complete read.
I feel the story is so nicely balanced out with 'hot' romantic scenarios, characters that really make emotional connections to each other, and filled with such fluctuating emotional highs and lows and sexual tension. But just love how there is this strong underlying element of protection, unity and shared values of the good old component of good verses bad. With each story in this series readers are certainly getting closer to one almighty great conflict amongst the shifter universe and believe me I am so excited to see how they come together.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a fun book from start to finish. There was plenty of action (not only in the bedroom, but "OH My" was THAT action ever hot 🔥). If your not acquainted with this (or the Mystic River series) you may get lost in the various Shifter groups and "enemy" groups that are referenced. Never fear... everything is linked together in some way, even if you don't know it yet. Delta will no doubt clue us all in when the time is just right.
Deke and Annie are the MCs of this book, and they are a total trip together! Deke is almost as much caveman as he is 'cave lion'. He works and lives by his own rules, preferring most of the time to remain isolated and not in a pack setting. Annie, however, was a Polar Bear shifter who enjoyed her community, though not her alpha/father. She is an energetic, positive spirit with s sassy tounge...and she throws Deke for a bit of a loop.
These two don't step-off on the best footing. That's putting it mildly. Can two strong willed shifters work through their differences, and tackle the hurdles barreling towards them, without unnecessary bloodshed (theirs or others)? Do yourself a favor and grab your own copy of this wonderfully fast paced book. You won't be disappointed!
I received an ARC and hope this voluntary review helps you in your search for your next title. Happy Reading 📚
Annie is a polar bear shifter who lives by herself since she defied her father on his choice of a mate. Now she lives on the outskirts of town and has started her own grocery store. One day she is relaxing by the river when she is accosted by prehistoric cat. Annie is afraid that the cat either is about to eat her or mate her. When the cat shifts into a hot sexy man, she knows she is in for a passionate night. It goes beyond a passionate night when he mates her. When she wakes up, she is alone. She returns home but something strange is happening to her polar bear.
Deke is a cave lion shifter which was thought to be extinct. His parents were murdered when he was a child. Deke knew he should carry on his species by finding his fated mate. When a prehistoric shifter mates, his bite will cause his mate to transform . He was surprised to find his mate in the woods near his lair. He mates her in a passionate night but she disappears the next day. However his job keeps him from hunting down his mate right away. He is the Finder who shifters hire to find and track down people and objects. Then Annie's brother hires him to find Annie.
I loved this story and Annie was a very strong character. She is fighting her feelings for her fated mate and her need for independance. Deke is very caring but seems to be clueless with women.
The storylines are exciting, funny and so much fun to read! The characters are unique with awesome personalities. Otter Cove is a charming town to a fantastic group of shifters. Annie used to be a polar bear shifter. Till one day she was claimed by a rare cave lion shifter. After he claimed her Annie found she was now a cave lion to! He did not ask permission to claim and change her. So Annie runs away. She leaves it for cove with out telling her brothers why. So her brother Zac hires a friend Deke aka the finder to locate her. Not knowing Annie is Dekes fated mate. Deke had been shocked when he came upon his fated mate. His nature was to take her and claim her! Afterwards he went hunting for food for her while she slept. Only to return to find her gone! Now he has a second chance to reclaim her. When her brother hires him to find her. It doesn't take him long to locate her. Now his biggest challenge is to convince her to accept him. Meanwhile trying to protect her from an evil organization. Out to capture and breed himself and Annie! You will love this incredible five star plus series.
Annie has started her life over in Seattle. She has been turned by Deke (cave lion) and isn’t sure how she can ever be accepted in her clan (Polar Bears). Deke is one of the last of his kind and knows that Annie is his fated mate. He is also known as the Finder and is hired by her brother Zak to find her and bring her home.
Zak is able to find Annie and brings her home – but not before he has his way with her again and shows her just how good it is between them. Annie is beyond mad; she is tired of everyone telling her what she is going to do and not asking her. The bond between Annie and Deke starts to grow and they are both able to “calm” the other and begin to adjust to a life together, or do they?
Trouble follows Annie and Deke back to Otter Cove – the Order is out to grab the 2 pre-historic cave lions to possibly start their own “killing machines”. Will Deke and Annie be able to work together to put a stop to what is going on? Looking forward to the next book in this series!

Annie is horrified when she realizes the cave lion shifter has turned her into one like him. She heard him when he kept calling her his mate, but it didn't quite compute. Deke left her in his cave without even giving her his name. When he finds her in Seattle, where she has run to, escaping will not be happening. She is his mate, and they will come to an understanding. The Shadow League is moving on them. Cave lion shifters are exceedingly rare, and a breeding pair is a find of unparalleled value.
Unexpected Mate is a really good read, which is not a surprise. This whole series has been amazing. It shouldn't be read as a stand alone. There is an overarching story line of the insidious Shadow League that runs through the series. Annie is a strong heroine who can take care of herself, and demands to be respected by the patriarchal men around her. Deke is a loner, and not so much uncaring as somewhat ignorant of social mores. He is over the top for sure, and his romance with Annie is unique. One click worthy, this one is not to be missed.

I recently delved into shifter books, and I must say, it was quite an enjoyable experience. The characters of Deke and Annie were intriguing, with complex personalities that made them all the more interesting. I appreciated that Annie was not a helpless damsel in distress but instead was a strong-willed fighter. Deke, on the other hand, was a brilliant caveman who was a joy to read about. I can't decide which interaction with Zak, Annie's brother, was more entertaining; the one with Deke or Annie.
The steamy scene was enough to make the ice caps melt, but what I enjoyed most was when they realized they loved each other and what it meant to be fated mates. There were several action scenes that I would normally skim over, but I found myself eagerly reading them in this book.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and now find myself on the hunt for more in the series. I can't wait to read more and see what happens next.

Misunderstandings, hurt feelings, distrust and more cause Annie to secretly leave her home in Otter Cove after being mated, claimed and transitioned by a Cave Lion. Nearly a year later, Dele finds her in Seattle and the sexual attraction between them quickly overwhelms Annie as he immediately claims her again before returning her to his cave home.
This series is intense as the coming confrontation between the Mystic River and Otter Cove shifters and the Shadow League is imminent.
The relationship between Annie and Deke is a battle of wills and dominance as Annie isn’t willing to meekly submit to her mate. She is bristling at how he claimed and transitioned her without her consent, but she also acknowledges she desires him and realizes her ace is with him.
When Deke is gone for several weeks on a job that he said would only take two or three days, Annie is quick to think he’s changed his mind and has abandoned her. Deke has his hands full when he needs to rescue his mate from danger.

Deke is a loner and an ancient cave lion breed of shifter. His breed is on its way to extinction but that doesn't mean he's allowed to be a jerk. When he scents Annie, a polar bear shifter, he realizes she's his fated mate. She is attracted to him on a primal level but he overpowers all her misgivings by using her attraction against her. He turns her on then mates her, marks her and causes her to change into a cave lion shifter without a discussion or her consent. She understandably runs but she doesn't know he's The Finder and will be able to track her down.
He just assumes he can take over her life and I didn't like that he was a big jerk for most of the story. I'm not a fan when men are turned on by the women's anger. He enjoys making her angry and pushing her buttons. Eventually, he realizes he should be nicer because he wants her to be happy when they are not in bed too. In my opinion, this saves the story. The impending threat adds tension to this steamy relationship.

I love 💕 this beautiful story, I love Annie, she’s so beautiful, kind and caring to her family and friends. She deserves love and support but she believes she has no control of her fate and is afraid of losing everything and hurting or disappearing everyone she loves. I shared her confusion, fear and anger when her unknown mate finds and claims her, biting her and changing her life forever. It’s so sad as she realises she’s loosing her bear but she has no idea what her mate is so she’s terrified and ashamed. She believes she mate has deserted her. So sadly she’s going to disappear, her family must never know what’s I happened. Her brother hired a finder to bring her home, and her shock when her mate finds her and hears that her brother unknowingly sent the person she’s running from after her. With time and care her mate Deke will show her he didn’t leave her, he went hunting to feed her and was shocked to find her gone. He’s taken her back home no matter how much she fights, he loves her. After some excitement, misunderstandings and surprises they find happy ever after
