Natalie is a rare human who can see her Guardian Angel. While only a child, she has already begun to change the world around her. Things will never be the same.
I received a digital ARC from the author and I decided to provide an honest review.
This is an excellent continuation from book 1 and in no way suffers from "second book syndrome"--almost the opposite in fact. So much more is learned about guardians and their interactions with humans, along with many new developments in all of the human relationships. I felt like the focus was more on the kids' POVs and less the adults, although I have a feeling that might change in the next book. I enjoyed the descriptions of all the "experiments" that Natalie and Timothy conducted, which end up being extremely relevant later on. If the beginning seems a little slow, the payoff in the end is well worth it.
All of the characters have such a distinct emotional thread running through all of their POV sections. Some were particularly harrowing and will likely resonate with each person differently depending on their experiences. This book has a unique feel in how visceral some of the emotions and actions are described, particularly for Jonathan.
The last section is extremely suspenseful and ends on a troubling mystery. I am eager to see the ramifications from the major events and the different ways the humans and their guardians will react.
Seer is the 2nd book in the Guardians Series, it's a coming-of-age fantasy with guardian angels, neurodivergency, family drama, and most of all love.
Natalie is a rare human who is a seer who can see her guardian angel. While she's only a child, she has already started to transform the world around her.
Natalie and her autistic friend Timothy begin to experiment with the secret world of the Guardians, neither Natalie nor Timothy have any idea that their discoveries will lead them to unintended, and increasingly dire, consequences.
Natalie's brother Gabe is friends with another boy whose Guardian, Natalie can see, enjoys bullying him far too much. Jonathan's Guardian uses information that has been unwittingly revealed through Natalie and Timothy's Seer's experiments, all in order to pursue a very dangerous agenda.
Natalie and Gabe's, Timothy's, and Jonathan's parents are all far too immersed in their own personal drama, reconciliation, PTSD, and growing families, that they don't realize that their children are out discovering universal truths, truths that could change the very nature of reality.
Soon all the kids, parents, and even all the Guardians find their very world rocked by all the changes Natalie is causing with all her newfound knowledge and abilities.
They are all realizing quickly that nothing is ever going to be the same again.
Seer is the 2nd book in the Guardians series by Julia Guroff. I was excited to get my hands on this book after having read the first book Guardian. And I have to say that this was such an excellent continuation from the first book.
This book taught us so much about the guardians and how they interacted with the humans they were assigned to. And we got so many new developments in all of the characters' relationships.
I did feel like a lot of the focus of this book was on Natalie, Gabe, Timothy, and Jonathan vs their parents, although based on how this book was written and how it ended I think that that is going to change in the next book and the next book will be more focused on the parents.
I loved all the experiments that Natalie and Timothy did, and we learned that those experiments actually turned out to be important later in the book. I did find the start of the book to be a bit slow, but if you push through, the payoff in the end is worth it and you are well rewarded.
I loved the way each of the characters have their own emotional thread that runs through each of their POV chapters. There were times that some times were rather harrowing and those moments are going to reverberate with each reader differently and your reactions to what the character is going through will depend on what your own personal experience has been. Seer has a beautiful and unique feel in some of the emotions and actions are described, especially when it comes to Jonathan.
It's in the last part of the book where the real suspense and it all ends on a mystery. I am honestly really looking forward to reading the next book to see how everything plays out and how all the major events resolve themselves and how the characters and their guardians are going to react.
I appreciate the way that Julia Guroff handles the sensitive topic of a serviceman who has PTSD, a child with autism, and other sensitive topics with such dignity and compassion.
If you haven't read the first book Guardian then you really need to read it before you jump into this 2nd book. I highly recommend this series. Julia Guroff has done an amazing job with this series.
After I read GUARDIAN, the first book in this series by this author, I knew I would continue to read what happens to the characters as the story moved into this second book, Seer. I felt instantly drawn to the character of Natalie, one of the MCs of this series, and like her even more as her little personality comes out as she grows in every way as time goes by. No spoilers, as usual, but this story gave a very interesting (and I feel accurate) depiction of how guardians would inevitably feel about the people they are connected to. You always envision an angel over your shoulder, leading you down the right path, but this book expands on how people have free will, and how guardians are there as uplifting support in ANY direction that a child or adult grows. The writer once again shows love, a strong understanding of the way people think, and a good heart that wants to see the best in people shine through in this writing… but it also is a great example of true, unconditional love and encouragement. Don’t get me wrong. I’m telling highlights about the characters, but there is an entirely different side to this story that I won’t go into, because I don’t want to give anything away. But it is worth reading to see the amazing things that these children can do when they put their minds to it and work together. There are unexpected twists that kept me hanging on, wanting to know more, and I will definitely be reading the next book in this series very soon, because I have to know where it goes from here!
This is the second book in this series and it did not disappoint! Picked up right where the first one left off. Flowed beautifully and the last 25% of the book had me staying up late to find out what happens next. Can’t wait to read more in this wonderfully written series!
I absolutely loved this book and book 1 they was both written sooo beautifully loved everything about it from the characters to the plot of the story absolutely wonderful
I’ve had the opportunity to read an ARC copy from the author. Can you imagine if you were able to see your guardian? This book catches your attention and you don’t want to put it down. Can’t wait to read what’s next
I had the opportunity to read this book via digital ARC and have found it to be a great read! The way the book is written brings such a lovely view on the idea of guardian angels/beings, how certain people can interact with them and have influence on others. I have found myself fully immersed in the story, how the characters have grown from the first book and cannot wait to read more in this series!
