If I Could Remember is a Psychological Thriller peppered with little romance. The story revoles around Armaan, who is mentally disturbed due to his troubled childhood. Being marked as a socially outcast person Armaan has a family who favours their prodigal son Yash. Things were normal until Armaan starts acting weirdly.
The story is good and unique way of writing. Author had ample amount of time to grow it but the plot felt wasted. It felt like the story was going nowhere and revolving in the same place again and again and in some places it was confusing.
It's evident that the book is charachter driven than plot driven. Writing style is exceptionally good with smooth flow. Every chapter starts with catchy couplets to lure you into this book.
Coming into the characters the main two characters are Armaan and Ananya. Both characters are well sketched. They feel real and not a mere figment of Author. These characters are spokesperson of millions like them.
The revelation at the end shocked me to the point where the word 'wow' came out of my mouth. It felt like all this time my life was a lie and the shock I received is totally worth it. Would recommend this book to everyone especially psychological thriller lovers.
OMG!! These are the 3 words I'm left with after reading this book. I mean what an engaging thriller book this is.
Arman and Ananya are the protagonists of the story. Armaan was suffering from Insomnia and Ananya a very sweet and beautiful girl, whose life changes completely after being a rape victim. Armaan's father was a psychiatrist, who helped Ananya when she was facing depression.
Armaan and Ananya's grief was kind of similar, they both were all alone in themselves and which played a very important role in bringing them closure.
Now they both were companions for each other.
Will they able to heal each other? Or what twist and turns still waiting for them that could change them completely?
This book is amazing especially if you're a thriller lover then don't miss out on this. The author has done a great job, every character is defined in perfection that you will feel like the story is real.
The title of the book can't be better And one more thing that I would like to appreciate is the imagination power of the author. I was able to visualize the scene while reading the book. . I loved this book ❤
This was a very complex read for me. For starters, its highly psychological with young people involved. Insomnia, ptsd, selective amnesia, Rape and Child Abuse, suicide are part of the plot and a reader would require a steady heart to read through the book.
I really liked the lyrical prose of Mr Saxena. It brings out the essence to the genre although, it's slightly unbelievable and unusual as the narrator is a highly unreliable teenager who has no idea what's going on. Had it been a different genre, and I'm definitely going to try more of the author's books, I'm sure Saxena will be nailing it with his accurate vocabulary.
About 80% into the book, I myself had no idea how this will turn out to be. The characters were sketchy, drawing suspicions to themselves and the ending really got to me. This is not a light read and I'm not sure it should be recommended for young adults. Being a mom to a young daughter myself, this book got under my skin and made me very uncomfortable. I think the implied message behind it would want the parents to know what is going on with your teenage children?! Well, give it a read and I'd definitely love to chat with you.
Neil Gaiman in his book ‘Coraline’ said: “Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be defeated.” We talk about monsters similarly. We glorify this idea in weak minds that monsters can be defeated. It’s an illusion, to assure us nothing is impossible. No. Sometimes these monsters live among us. Breathe with us. Eat with us. Sleep with us. They never leave us alone and remain undefeated, unconquered, feeding on us, living on us; like parasites.
TRIGGER WARNINGS- RAPE, MOLESTATION
We read many books but there are some gems that make their way through our heart and make us think, think about things that aren’t mostly even talked about like mental illness, rape, molestation etc. I’m not someone who usually reads thriller but when I read the blurb of this book I couldn’t stop myself. There’s something about the author’s words, about his writing that made me feel this book to a totally different level. Just after I finished reading the prologue, I couldn’t make myself read more soon not because I didn’t like it but because the pain that I felt, each and every word that was there on the paper gave me goosebumps, shook me from inside and made me cry too. I felt like I was there, in the scene seeing someone being raped. When I say I felt the pain, I don’t mean that I felt the pain of a rape victim, no, no one can. The pain that a rape victim goes through and not just the pain everything a rape victim goes through I can’t even put it into words, my words would never be able to do justice. I knew the moment I started reading this book that it would leave me devastated but I wanted to read it. According to the NCRB report, a woman is raped every 16 minutes in India. As I read each and every chapter, I was left with a lot of question not just about the story but our society too. The major question that popped up in my head was- is there anyone who feels fully safe and secured and not living in a constant fear that one doesn’t know what might happen the next moment just because you are a woman.
I liked the writing style of the book. The story kept me hooked till the end. The author has successfully managed to talk about various dark segments like raped and molestation. I read about how the author had to get into the dark segments and actually feel it all himself first before bringing it to paper, I really appreciate him for that, that is not something that everyone can do. The character development was good, I had faces of characters in my mind the whole time I was reading. For me this book was a masterpiece. There are some quotes at the beginning of every chapter which made me think, wonder and a lot more things and most of all those quotes felt apt for each and every chapter. I cried, felt hurt and pained, got a lot of food for my thoughts and also felt disgusted about some aspects of our so called society that we live in. The ending left me shocked, that wasn’t something that I was expecting but I guess that’s the art of this book.
I was finally able to put words to my feeling about this book, just hope that I was able to justice to it.
I WANT EVERYONE TO READ IT BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE OK WITH THE TRIGGER WARNINGS.
In, If I could remember, one can sense where all the truth and untruth lies, you repine being there, for having to unveil the darkest of dark secrets of characters beyond the muse, and the parts of a tormented soul. But, you cannot resist or refrain from reading through the pages. For me, this book was such, though I tried to put down this book for plenty of times; and felt the miseries of characters intensely, I had to keep it going, peeking through the corners of the pages as to know why the character goes through what he goes through and how protagonist reach his place or state of peace before quitting his rant, sorrow and criticisms.
“Maybe the only thing each of us can see is our own shadow”.
Vedant embraces the nothingness of the world. Briefly and poetically. I wouldn’t say it is too dark and cryptic but the answers to many unasked questions in here (Not talking of the climax but metaphorically!) - In the form of stories within stories, the reels within the sadness and the sighs within the melancholy. On the brighter note: A good thriller that shows a way out, teaching you how to receive the ingratitude and the forlorn response of suffering. But beware of trigger warnings.
Firstly, it was deeply despising to read Armaan’s life realities coupled with Ananya’, hearing the tape of a rape victim - and Armaan's rumination while he tries to bond with Ananya to reconnect the dead fragments of his mind. Halfway through this, the authors writing, the way of prose keeping would slowly, constructively wrap you. And demands you to see the hard reality over hopeless dreams. Finally! His message? Choose compassion over pity. Empathy over sympathy. Serene over dilemmas – for, having blind faith and hope are meaningless yet realizations of life tendencies would be a great head start. Possible, only if there's the right headspace. EMOTIONALLY.

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚
🎭This book is a striking piece of psychological thriller by Vedant Saxena, which while reading will make you question yourself, as to how a single book with hardly 200 pages can be such a page-turner?
⚠️Trigger Warning⚠️- rape, violence, sexual harassment, molestation.
🎭Armaan and Ananya are considered to be the two young protagonists of the story who had a hellish time confronting their dreadful past. Armaan used to have these terrible nightmares which resulted in insomnia whereas Ananya's life took a heavy U-turn after being analyzed as a rape victim. This shows how degrading their life had stood to be. But later on, destiny ended up restoring the void between them. Were they truly destined to be with each other or was the future awaited with new plans?
🎭(Don't expect any more spoilers from me, as what I've said is enough, now to know what exactly had happened in the end you certainly need to go and grab a copy of this book. Now that you know that the story is just mindblowing, I don't have to say much about it. We will discuss about this more after you finish reading it.)
🎭Some extra information: The characters are nicely portrayed by the author. The narration part was perpetrated in a quite rational way. You can firmly perceive the emotions of the personalities fiddled in the novel. I personally loved the cover a little more than I should as I assume it coats the story flawlessly. Even the writing style was immense. Overall a great composition in between 200 pages. I Will not be recommending this to the softhearted people as it might hurt their sentiment. Besides them, all the others are welcome to read this book.
Once you decide to pick up a book for reading what intrigue you at the first moment to trace the latent in the sack of pages? Is it story? Or plot? Or craft of the writer? - possibly you can’t reach to one point at the first hand. You mere want a fine book with a fantastic story that can hold your spirit, which can turn into the collage of everything, the set measurement.
So, it happens with ‘If I Could Remember’.
Since, I’ve come across the cover of ‘If I could Remember’ and reading of its blurb and soon getting delved into its story leafing its pages after pages, diving into the craft of storytelling, peculiarly fusion with poetic tone in the prose language, it keeps me enchanted.
The subtle art of storytelling and characterization, Vedant succeeds to hold the imagination of the readers and traverse them to the imaginative region, he wants to take them by his beautiful use of picturesque imaginary.
The internal conflict of the characters, the way narrator reveals in soliloquies manner and creates craving in the mind of the readers, it drains deep in the sub-conscious mind and the readers synchronize the pain within.
‘If I Could Remember’ by Vedant Saxena is a promising novel. Read it and experience the craft of narratology.
Armaan and Ananya are wrecked with their emotional traumas. Armaan has his own battle between reality and nightmares whereas Ananya has an excruciatingly painful past and hidden secrets. Armaan was shocked to find a session tape about Ananya in his father's office. Yes! His father is a renowned psychiatrist who takes care of human behaviours. Something urged him to know more about Ananya because, she was once a lively girl who is now lost, sad and lonely. In the process of knowing her hidden secrets, his painful anxieties gets acknowledged.
Without spilling over everything, I definitely recommend this brilliant Psychological thriller. I slowly took off with the pace from the beginning and later invested in thoroughly. The plot twist at the end was totally unimaginable! I needed to know everything about Ananya's secrets and kept guessing them until the end. But, the ending! It was a shocker.
This book is something! You'll have tons of whys & a part of you would be numb... I am not into thrillers but this was so worth trying the genre. It'll play with your mind and will keep you hooked till the very end! What I liked the most is that each chapter has an abstract which gives you an insight. And still something will shock you and give you chills. Secondly, someone finally wrote about two of the most hushed topics: Rape and mental illness in way that's raw and thought-provoking! It's a great book if you are not weak hearted or are not facing any trauma/anxiety.
*Trigger Warning: Rape, abuse, Shock*
Pick it up someday and let yourself sink in it. If it breaks your heart, let it. If it opens your mind, let it! (You'll find more detailed review on @kitaabgah)
About the Book: If I could remember is the story of Armaan and Ananya. Armaan is on the verge of losing his sanity ( or maybe, he has already lost it, who knows 😉 ) he is a crazy loner and an insomniac and he thinks he is the most misunderstood person in the whole world. But there are some things that he doesn't know, parts of his memory that he can't access, which is this past that eludes him?
Ananya is a rape victim ( read: survivor ), she is broken beyond repair. There are many secrets hidden in her past and some of these secrets include Armaan's family. Can Armaan help her? Can Ananya help Armaan? Can they help each other?
My thoughts: If I could remember was engaging and impactful. It broke my heart and it had many triggers. The narration was the most beautiful thing about this book, it almost read like poetry.
The book is a dark psychological thriller with an excellent plot and amazing narration. The main characters, that of Ananya and Armaan are well developed. I applaud the author for making the literary references in the story through Armaan. The secrets and lies made the story engaging and thrilling. The end is quite nice but leaves many questions unanswered. I would advise the readers to not read this book in one sitting as it might be too heavy to digest and it might feed on you before you devour it.
The book has one of the best dedication I have ever come across. There are many quotable excerpts, sharing some of my favourites here: The truth is - people are afraid of themselves, their vulnerable existence snd their deep buried feelings. We are taught that pain is malicious, to be cautious of it and the people who carry it. But what they don't teach us is that it is something to be carried on with you like a scent, fragrance of your reality.
Her us felt good. Like I wasn't lonely anymore, someone was lonely with me.
We humans are driven by madness, which we learn to tame while growing up. But the madness lives and breathes in us, eventually grows in us. For how long can you tame it or keep it in control? For how long can it stay sane till it shatters down your ribs, tearing out of you, stand in front of you, measure you from head to toe. Laughing, laughing and laughing...
This book is truly mind bending. The brilliant plot and concept imagining of something more is something thrilling. But, real engine of this book is plotline from first page to the last. The quotes before the starting of each chapter adds up to the poetic yet serious effect by the author. I also believe there are many Ananyas and Armans out there. The language is lucid and the plot is beautifully crafted by the author. The one after another twists and turns in the plot keeps the reader engaged till the very end of the novel.
‘If I Could Remember’ by Vedant Saxena revolves around Arman and Ananya. Arman and Ananya both have certain things from the past which are troubling their present. Through this book author has given us a glimpse about how real issues that most of us get to experience. The reality that will leave the readers shattered. Characters are well developed and someone who we can relate to. The feelings that these characters depict can be felt throughout the book. The plot is nicely developed and is really an eye opener to all of us. It shows us the harsh reality of our society and will surely keep the readers curious to know how the story is going to move ahead. Language is simple and lucid and the narration is done nicely. Overall, I would surely recommend it to all those who are looking forward to read a psychological thriller.
“We are reminded of the Devil, that he exists, lurks in the shadows, ready to pounce. But the Devil lives amongst us, eat with us, Breathe with us, Sleep with us as humans. They never leave us alone and remain undefeated, feeding on us like a parasite. What was her mistake? There is no excuse for such crimes.”
Armaan is a guy who is avoided by everyone is his school for some reasons. He feels lonely but never cares for anyone. His disturbed behavior is may be because of the of the continuous taunting of other students or because of his unworried parents. The only entertainment he has during the weekend is to visit his father’s hospital and listen to the recorded tapes. His dad is a phycological counselor and Armaan listens to the tapes of his dad’s patients. One day he come across a tape of his classmate – Ananya who is a topper in his class. He was shocked to see her name there since according to him, she has everything in her life. Using these tapes as an excuse Armaan befriends Ananya before even hearing her story. But eventually he comes to know the secrets or sorrow behind her beautiful smile. The book is a dark psychological thriller. The narration style was intriguing and the suspense element was fantastic. The story ended in a cliff hanger so I assume there is another book to the series which is to be released. The character development was good. The way author started each chapter with an amazing quote relevant to the chapters from other books was impressive. However, the story was quite disturbing. And I was so confused since the story revolves around Armaan’s dream and real life and most times I was not able to differentiate which is real and which is his dream. Nevertheless, the story line was good. So, I would suggest you to read this book only if you are comfortable with the trigger warnings.
Disclaimer: Rapes and molestation graphic scenes are present.
It was probably the first time I got to read a psychological thriller. I feel like I won't be able to write about the elements of a novel considering this book. All I can say about this book is that it had something must be written in a book. While reading the book, I strongly felt to recommend this book to some of my known people personally.
'If I Could Remember' has an element of mystery within the name and an element of fear within the story. That's tough to imagine someone doesn't remember anything about whatever happened in their life. The condition of such a person described in the book makes us feel sorry for them and we can only have sympathy for them. It's the habit of the society that the weaker ones are mostly ill treated or ignored or not cared much for. Innocent pure hearts don't belong there, they need similar people to be around. It's the worst that how some parents don't understand their kid's suffocation and expect them to behave good always. Mental health is something must cared for. Author gave his best in giving words to these things happening in our society.
There could not be any perfect title than this for this book. Armaan was narrating his story and the narration was such that we can actually feel the character and things happening around him. Hey hey hey! I was amazed at how author found so many perfectly relevant quotes to be written in the book before every chapter! How many books the author must have read or how deeply he must have researched for them!
The book is lengthy enough for you to give it sufficient time but you also won't regret if you finish it in one go. It made me anxious at the end, when the author left his readers with so many questions unanswered. I must admit, this book is gonna help many people.
A Psychological Mystery Thriller named "If I Could Remember" by Vedant Saxena.
To begin with, I would like to brief about my journey to get this book as psychological mystery thrillers were never my cup of tea, to be very honest. But Kudos to the art of Author, with every line penned down with precision like a perfect sketch of two people's psychology while they were fighting their survival, is just Phenomenal !! And the level of intense feelings this book carries, I just couldn't take my eyes off!!
Totally not an easy read as it has dark incidents such as rape, violence, bully, troubled childhood, etc. narrated by the characters so artistically and carved beautifully by author with sharpness in each and every emotion that anyone could just get hooked from beginning till end with each plot twist. The book will grab your mind and heart for each and every word to shake you and would leave you thrilled when you finish it, such beauty to make you more and more empathetic towards society and acknowledging and embracing the pain of people like Armaan and Ananya.
Every chapter begins with a quote or poems which relates to the storyline some or the other way, which is really great as it grabs reader's interest at a glance. The story revolves around the troubles of two characters, Armaan & Ananya, two teenage kids who had their own reasons to be treated as imperfect and misjudged misfits into the so called Perfect World, still manages to acknowledge & embrace each other's wounds, which is described by the author beautifully as two broken people acts as each other's pillars to strive for each other. But, was it all real ? Or was it just the manifestation of Armaan pictured Ananya dressed in wounds all around her ? It'll leave you with question marks all over your mind.
Writing this review I remember the moment where my hands literally shivered while reading, realising the intensity pain and the feelings of the characters portrayed here in the story. While my eyes literally rained with tears with my questions unanswered at the end. This book built such a zone in my head, like someone just knocked to wake me up from a deep sleep.
We often feel that there's a heavy baggage we carry beneath our heart, the weight of which increases more and more with our every emotion unheard, may be with our every voice either left unsaid or supressed by being victims of our own minds. I would like to take a moment to appreciate each and every effort you took to introduce this book to the world. Surely a great read!! as author, with his beaufied words, sprinkles the elegance of each context with so much grace, which gifted me a new perception of looking forward to such matters decribed in the story, with more kindness and empathy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul. 💙
FAB - BOOK REVIEW OF "If I Could Remember" by Vedant Saxena.
Genre: Fiction (Romantic Thriller)
Rating - 5/5
QOTD: Do you guys keep on forgetting things, unlike me?
"If I Could Remember" by Vedant Saxena. This book is very underrated, and I feel that this book should reach a broader audience because it's been a long time that I had read an excellent psychological thriller, and this one is on another level. This book is filled with emotions but with a thriller element to it. This book is about our protagonists Arman and Ananya. Arman is a crazy teenage guy who can forget things quickly and suffers from a difference between reality and illusion. Whereas Ananya is a very talkative girl who is very bubbly and very active in the class, she used to top all the subjects. All this is "used" to happen. They are not happening anymore. And Arman being the elder son of the phycologist to whom Ananya has visited for some therapy sessions, wanted to know the real reason for her to turn into a silent girl who never listened to the class attentively like before. She has changed so much, but why? Arman's father records the therapy sessions of every person who came to his sessions to record information about humans one day. Arman found the tapes of Ananya's therapy sessions to overcome her depression. The next day he confronted her about the videos he saw in his dad's clinic, and then they had a deal. Later the next day, after the confrontation with her, he will get to know that clinic has been robbed where her videos, name in the patient's list, and everything related to her is gone with some cash. But who did that? That act has been done by Ananya to save herself from Arman, with whom she had a deal over the fear of losing in it. . The author has explained the real-life topic with some fictional characters in the book. The language is lucid. The plot of the book is excellent with the storyline. The thrilling element is not at all predictable. Throughout the book, we are always in a feeling of what will happen at the end because we can't predict what's gonna happen because of the twists and turns in the book. If you are in an urge to read an unputdownable thriller, then here it is.
First things first, the book is not for the faint hearted. The book is excruciatingly detailed and Vedant has explained the physical and mental trauma of Ananya and Armaan quite graphically. The plot of the book is very well written, and the story moves at a pace that is a bit slow, but it actually adds up to the thrill of the story. The revelations are slow, and as they secrets start tumbling out. The events preceding the chapter start making sense. Since the characters are late teens, the language is what a teen uses. It is easy to comprehend, but as a personal recommendation, I would not recommend a sprint read, rather a marathon by taking a break after a few chapters to process the events. Vedant has taken 2 characters and shown how physical and mental abuse of a person can affect them, and change their perspective on life. Another idea that I liked in the book was that of hope, and how proper support can change a person’s life. The last part of the book is exquisitely written, and the twist in the tale was phenomenal. The moment the other shoe drops, I took a moment to process things, and the last scene of the book makes me want to know more as to what happened after that.
Coming to the characters, Armaan as a character impressed me in the manner he evolves through the time. Despite the way he was treated by his peers, he was actually not one to resent. The trigger event was something that changes his perspective, but I felt that Armaan’s condition was a result of the society’s ignorance, rather than his anger. Ananya’s character lies between the black and white and while each reader would have their own interpretation of her actions, I think Vedant drew her as an anti-thesis to Armaan as to how different people react to trauma. Mrs. Rekha was one character I must applaud, and I think she was the one who actually understands Armaan and mental health, and it is my interpretation is that she actually looked out for Armaan, and her detentions were actually a way for Armaan to seek help from her.
On the off chance that I Could Remember composed by Vedant Saxena. This book will go under the thrill ride type.
The cover picture consummately suits the internal substance and furthermore looks excellent. Other than this we can not pick a superior title for the story.
The primary heroes of the story are Ananya and Armaan the two of them were concentrating in a similar class. Ananya was a solid young lady who was upbeat in her past however later become so quiet and discouraged after her merciless assault. Armaan is a person who is having sleep deprivation, nervousness and some issue with dreams who is taking (in fact not taking) the medication that his father endorsed, his dad is a specialist who has given treatment for Ananya a year prior for her downturn. Armaan learns this and finds the meeting tapes of Ananya in his dad's office, however the entirety of her proof and tapes were disappeared and ransacked the following day after he thinks about her condition and there begins the story. Who did ransacked those tapes? What will occur straightaway? According to the title is there an apparition in the story? For all the above answers do peruse the book.
This book is without a doubt a spine chiller and you won't put down the book until you complete something very similar. The screenplay of the story is great and there is no undesirable gloating in the story. The story talks the severe, reality, the agony and surprisingly the current reality through the plot. Despite the fact that its a spine chiller story I found out about how significant is to deal with our emotional wellness by perusing the book. I like just chose phycological thrill ride stories and this one can be named under that rundown. This book will cause you to fail to remember your present reality while perusing the story. The language and the jargon are so ideal for the story content.
This book will be enjoyed by the thrill ride kind darling. An excellent read.
🎗The author has brilliantly written a psychological thriller that addresses critical issues. The book evokes strong emotions from the first page, which speaks volumes about the author's writing style.
🎗This book is underappreciated, and I believe it should be read by a wider audience because it's been a long time since I've read a great psychological thriller, and this one is on another level. This book is emotional, but it also has a suspense aspect to it. It tells us about Arman and Ananya, the protagonists. Arman is a schizophrenic adolescent who had trouble remembering facts and distinguishing between reality and delusion. Ananya, on the other hand, was a really talkative girl who was bubbly and engaged in class, and she used to excel in all subjects. This was a normal occurrence.
🎗They are no longer occurring. And Arman, the elder son of the psycologist whom Ananya had seen for some therapy sessions, was curious as to what had caused her to become a quiet girl who had never paid attention in class before.
🎗No one knew why she had changed so much. Arman's father kept a track of any person who attends his counselling sessions in order to collect data on humans one day. Arman was able to locate the recordings of Ananya's therapy sessions in order to help her resolve her depression. He asked her the next day about the images he had seen in his father's clinic, and they came to an understanding. After the confrontation with her the next day, he will learn that the clinic has been robbed, and that her videos, name on the patient's list, and everything else relevant to her has been taken along with some cash. So who was it that did it. Ananya performed the act in order to save herself from Arman, with whom she had made a bargain because she was afraid of losing. The book is long enough that you can devote enough time to it, but you won't be disappointed if you finish it in one sitting.
Do you ever read a psychological thriller? This novel makes you feel in the shoes of the protagonist Armaan. I feel insanity along with Armaan. Because, the author's richness of storytelling makes everyone to portray themselves as like Armaan. Here the protagonist Armaan has trapped in between the LIES and REALITY. The way of storytelling is IRONY and METAPHORICAL. The main characters Armaan and Ananya are Emotional Packages. Hope, Love, Rape, Molestation, Frustration, Disbelief, Taunt, Loneliness, ect., are the ideal part in this story. The author puts a lot of efforts in this novel to support the woman. He gives his voice against for Harassment and Molestation. He tries to show the hard situation of the tender aged girl. How she is suffocating with the frame of Molestation? How she is feeling herself with the label of Slut? How pathetically she is struggling with the society? How she has enforced to kill her Uncle? In this novel two to three characters are psychologically affected. The author has penned this novel with suspense. Even though he reveals the mental problem of Armaan at the very end of the novel, he continues the suspense with the death of Ananya and the lies. He puts the questions in the reader's heart such as, is she alive? Why she has lied to Armaan? Really, is he a patient? Why his mom and brother hating him? This novel will hooked you from the beginning to end to turn the page. But, I took too much time to read this novel because of my family circumstances. Even though I never missed the story's continuity. While reading this novel I feel like speaking with Ananya. The depth of the emotion in this novel makes me to feel like that. Every chapter starts with the verse and new emotional expressions. Chapters are very short. Language is rich. But comprehensive. The author Meticulously crafted the patients Armaan's and Ananya's mentality.
This book is fabulous feast for the psychological and thriller readers

♠️Synopsis: I would like to give pat on Author's back as he has chosen such a sensitive topic to write about. The book has been written around two characters and the way portrayal has been done is really commendable. Armaan who is the male protagonist of the story is narrating the story and the way narration has been done is enchanting and poetic as well.
♠️Novelty: The book talks about the girl who has been r**pe* and how society made the girl a slut with a blink of the eye. The book has many nauances which had been talked about which we tend to ignore the conversation around them.
♠️Guesswork: The title goes perfectly with the story and ofcourse could not have better, wherein e everyone is sharing the part of the story but doesn't remember everything.
♠️Language: Loved the poetic lines and language is supremely amazing.
♠️Final Call: I found the ending was bit rushy which can be made better. I would like to thanks to author who has brilliantly put across such a sensitive content

|| PERSONAL INSIGHT || - 🌸 I Enjoyed Reading the Story. The Author has written an Impeccable Mysterious Story. The Story is an Emotionally Overwhelming. If someone Likes to Read Light Stories For Leisure Purpose, then the Book is Not a Good Pick For Him/Her.
This book is a dark psychological thriller consisting 178 pages. The writing style is appreciable and full of emotions.
The story contains protagonists Armaan and Ananya. Armaan is the youngest member in his family and has been discarded by many people. People make fun of him and call him 'Crazy'. He is battling with his past which haunts him. He met Ananya, a girl with dark secrets , taking sessions from Armaan's father, a psychiatrist. He got some tapes of Ananya from his father's office and then the story goes. He got to know some secrets about her life which completely dragged him to trauma. He started finding the real culprit behind this and seeks justice for her.
This book highlights rape, society taunts, mental illness and women empowerment. And i do not recommend this book if you are already going on with some sort of depression in your life. This might trigger you. The way author had written this book is amazing, a perfect selection words which will directly hit your heart. The climax is beyond imagination. I loved the talks of "Armaan & Ananya" and who don't need the person who can listen to you at any point of time without judging you. This is the cutest thing which I find here, I know this is a thriller story, lol. Every chapter starts with some poems which are beautifully selected related with the chapter. The end is incomplete and leaves behind many questions to ask.
Now, I badly want the sequel of this book. What had happened to Ananya? Will Armaan be able to come out from his condition? Were the tapes not real? Is everything a lie and Armaan is imagining them? I don't know why but the main characters reminds me of " Clay and Hannah", though the story is completely different than that. But I am in love with the characters, writing style and plotting of the book. Highly Recommended!!
I completed this book yesterday but needed some time to gather my thoughts and put them in words. That is the kind of impact this book had on me. It is a dark psychological thriller. Every line that the author has penned down has something so dark yet beautiful about it. I don't know if I am making sense or not. But every incident from this story is sad and yet there has a smile on my face and some tears in my eyes towards the end. But omg..!!! The ending. I have questions. Like so many questions. . The story revolves around two young kids, Armaan and Ananya. While Armaan has always been a misfit in his school and at home, Ananya was once a member of the elite club. But now she also is a misfit. She also sits in a corner of the class, quiet and isolated. What changed her? The story is about these two kids trying to fit into this world. Keeping their secrets close to their hearts. The story is about how easily we give tags to people and judge them without knowing their stories. It attracts our attention to many horrible acts that prevail in our society- rape, bullying, violence, etc. . ~It is not an easy read but surely an important one. ~ I just loved the language and narration of this book. The description of the feelings and emotions of the characters is just something else. ~There are poems and quotes before every chapter by various writers, they add another level of charm to the book. ~The book ends with many questions unanswered and I can't wait to get some answers and read more by the author. (please write the next part soon) ~Overall, an amazing book and congratulations to the author for starting so many important conversations through the story of Armaan and Ananya.
I've been the first or second person to read the book when it was still in its raw form, and with that I mean, first and second drafts of the book. I told Vedant, the author of the book and a good friend of mine, that it has the power to shake someone's sleeping conscience. Even after knowing the story from the very beginning as he has discussed the plot with me already when I read the first draft and reached the concluding chapter, my reaction was "OH MY GOD! WHAT THE HELL? HOW DID YOU DO THIS!?" Now, imagine if someone who has known the story quite literally having that shock, then what would it do to a person who has no idea at all?
This book pushes to the edge to think- to think and to FEEL the atrocities a woman goes through. It's as triggering as the daily horror faced by a woman. What makes it different is that it doesn't fill you with sympathy or empathy. It crams you with rage- a rage that we all need in our blood and veins to face the evil perpetrators and look them in the eye and say "HOW DARE YOU?". That's what this book does: it screams "HOW DARE YOU TO DO THAT TO ANYBODY?"
While reading the book you would not feel exhausted with the same theme spiraling around as the story talks about a lot- dysfunctional families, shared pain, trauma, a world in our minds, society's differential treatment, and of course, woman. I assure you, it has an end you don't expect in your farthest of dreams.
The language is easy to read as it flows with rhythm allowing the reader to dive into the hidden message of the book and it allows you to understand what you wish to comprehend.
Must read for psychological thrillers enthusiast and anyone in general who is willing to try a different genre.
"Two wounded souls, finding refuge in one another; revived in solidarity by the suffering forced upon us."
These words would speak everything about the protagonists of this dark psycho thriller. This story is about Armaan and Ananya, two teen-agers with heavy burden of undeniable and unforgettable past. One struggles with insomnia, the other with an abusive childhood and its affect; one has accept loneliness while the other pretends a cool normal life. Both get together to help and heal each other, but when has healing been easy...
It took me a while to catch with the flow of the story, this happened because the story is creepy but cool. We always give more importance for physical wounds but when it comes to emotional hurt or mental inconvenience is readily sidetracked. In the same way Armaan's father (psychiatry) tries to help him but I found his mother a bit too harsh and disappointed, on the other hand Ananya's parents fail to even understand the horrendous pain she has been through. Through this story the author has tried to explain the gaps in our understanding - we as society fail to understand the crime of rape and its affect, we fail in helping victims (of rape) and we have no idea of loneliness.
Favourite quotes from the book - 🔖 I was raped because someone raped me… 🔖 I was a stubborn sun and she wanted it to rain 🔖 I am a stranger to my own memories.
Page 18 Ananya Gupta, page 99 Ananya Sharma and page 160 Ananya Verma I found this three Ananya's in this story; did I go wrong in understanding? The best part in this story is its end, but I feel the tend is incomplete. Can I expect Ananya's story as a sequel? Or is it an abrupt end? I'm in love with the author's style of narration, would love too read more of your stories.
If I could remember is a thriller fiction written by Vedant Saxena. The main protagonist of the book is Armaan and Ananya, Armaan is suffering from Insomnia and he can't remember some parts of his life. Whereas, Ananya is a rape victim and dealing with these things.
Armaan's father is a specialist and has given treatment to Ananya for her trauma and depression. Armaan used to listen the tapes of his father's patients and one fine day he came through the tape of Ananya, his classmate. He was shocked to see the tape and eventually came to know about all the trouble. But it is a spine chilling thriller with lots of things in it.
I'm in love with this book, it is a perfect thriller read for me. I cannot imagine this book has so much to offer. The cover page of the book is beautiful with the appropriate title of the book.
The portrayal of both thw characters are done very well, every bit of their story is described perfectly. Writing about insomnia, rape, etc. these are something which people don't write about.
I loved the character of Armaan because of the evolution he has done in the book. Every chapter is started with a beautiful quote or poem related to the chapters. The plot of the book is great but at some point I was unable to differentiate the reality and dream.
I have to read that portion twice to get that in my mind but otherwise the storyline is written in a very unique manner. The ending of the book was quite different and left many questions unanswered.
It is a fast pace read and the language of the book is simple. The writing style of the author is lucid with every scene described well. Overall, I love the book and I'll recommend it all the people who love thrillers.
A very smartly designed cover with a dark theme & a girl.standing with some blood stains. It's appealing & suspensive too. It will catch your attention through its apt title & well designed cover.
It's a story revolved around two main protagonists Armaan & Ananya. . Armaan who has his own problems & society tagged him as "crazy" without knowing the situation or problems he has. . Ananya who is a bubbly girl full of enthusiasm & a topper girl who lives her life by her own means. . But time changes when Ananya became the most silent girl in the class who always lost in her own world & it's the utter surprise for everyone that noone know the reason behind it. . One day Armaan able to crack the mystery as his father is a psychiatrist & Ananya is his patient. His father recorded the sessions with his patient & Armaan able to get that recording. . To know what was in the recording & how the story moved forward grab the book & read it.
Writing style of the book is so much relatable to the contemporary time. Author tries to keep everything as simple as he could be. He don't make things over hyped nor over powering with emotions. There is a beautiful balance in author's writing style which will grab your whole attention to read it.
🙂 A completely heart touching & unique kind of plot line. 🙂 The writing style of the book is crisp well balanced & a very rare mixture of emotions with a gripping storyline. 🙂The language used in this book is well complementing to the storyline as its just enhancing its purity. 🙂 Clean Characterization 🙂 Well narrated book 🙂 Nicely paced
If I Could Remember is a psychological thriller book by Author Vedant Saxena. The story is about 2 high school classmates, Armaan and Ananya, who eventually confided in each other as they weren’t fit for society or as they thought.
About 1/3rd part of the story is slow and repetitive. It sometimes felt stretched but the message the author wants to convey through this book is worthy of it. Due to the sensitivity of the topics being talked about, it may get a little difficult to keep at it but as you into the story, the characters will get a grip on you, which will make you want to read it till the end. You will want to know what happened with the characters, how and if they got off their misery or kept swimming in that vast ocean.
Now about the themes, or rather issues, which are vividly discussed in the book, are Mental Health and Rape. As per the Global Happiness Index, India ranks at 139 out of 149 countries in the UN’s World Happiness Report 2021. It is enough to say that our country is in grave need to be more aware of the issues. There are still several rape cases that are not reported due to shame and fear of society, due to disbelief by your own family.
The language, as opposed to the topics, is easy to understand. However, the narration was elongated with every minute detail, which even though helped to visualize the scene, made it difficult to read for a long period of time. Due to that, it took several sittings to finish the book.
The best part about the book is the climax where everything flipped. It’s nothing like the story you would imagine to turn out to be. There are several questions that are unanswered, several cliffhangers being left.
Hopefully, if there will be a next part, these questions will be answered.
