“Things just might be worth it to love someone to the point of losing yourself.”
Nothing better than when a story keeps you on your toes. One that piques your curiosity of where things are unclear and revealed in steps, which keeps the mystery alive in an engrossing fashion. In which the dynamic between the two main characters develops in such a unique way, one where you're left wondering what is the other's end game. 🧐
Who is hiding what from whom? Why is Shavonne so distrustful? Why does Lewellyn see Shavonne as his entire universe? Why is that Lewellyn still loves Shavonne unconditionally? Why in a sea of red flags, is a demon with yellow eyes that is the only one civilized and considerate enough to ask for consent? And for the love of all things, what is his obsession with peeling onions!??? 🧅😭😭
Trust me. You will cry when you find out why he's always peeling onions. 😞 O:) O:) O:)
“They say loneliness is the prelude to love. If that's the case what brings love to a close, in the end?”
It had a solid balance of morbid humor and dark intrigue. One where all twenty-eight-year-old orphan Shavonne wanted was nothing to do with his little eccentric and kinda cute but annoyingly pesky neighbor Llewellyn, and yet, when he was mia, all he could do was think about him. 🥹 It was so funny and endearing that Lewellyn looks so confident and smooth, but he's actually just an awkward and cute love-struck psycho puppy who struggles to rein in how he just wants Shavonne all to himself, because he deserves the world. 🥲 🙂↕️
I really enjoyed how convincingly the story unfolded, a calmness offset by an unsettling air. Yes, Shavonne may not be the brightest fish in the water; lacking intellect and wit, who doesn't quite see what's literally right there. But, there definitely is a reason for it! 🥺 And watching all that unfold... 'My tiny universe began to shake. It was love.' How Shavonne's opinion changed of Llewellyn - who at times definitely reminded me of Dazai from BSD - who at times was so pitiful, yet adorable, but still so earnest in his desire to please and appease Shavonne. Shavonne in his lowest of lows, who was always seeking for an acknowledgement of his merit - who can't recall the last time someone said his name with such affection as Lewellyn does - his own pursuit of happiness simply having Shavonne to be a part of it. ❤️🩹❤️🩹
“Loving someone to the point of losing yourself is so hard.”
All the more purposeful as to why Shavonne had such a confused state concerning Lewellyn's deep-rooted affection, if not obsession, of the one who makes his life worthwhile... For when he learns the truth of why Lewellyn is the way he is... His heart just ached to be near the person who had loved him unequivocally when he had nothing aside from Shavonne . 🤧🤧 How even in the face of danger, only ever put him first above himself, to repay the kindness that he had never forgotten
'Soft, a little rough.... And utterly irresistible' is the definition of their love and it shows. How trust is misused and abused, how they were both stripped of their humanity, mistreated by those in higher power, endured the cruelest of fates from the trashiest of humans, and yet, but the hand of mercy, clawed their way out of it. 😣 Their past is shrouded in clarity. But when it's slowly brought to light - the pain and anguish endured on both sides - how we then see how their paths inadvertently crossed or rather destined to meet made their connection stronger. You'll want to protect both from uncovering the past that broke them. 💔 💔
“I wanted to love. I love you too much.”
The artwork of the manhwa was quirky and expressive; aesthetically soothing in the calmer and humorous interactions, but still so haunting and foreboding in the darker and traumatic moments. 'You deserve to heal as much as anyone.' Otherwise all that's left is pain. The love scenes were few, but their love language was more than just sex; it was the kindness and affection of a kindred spirit who understood the pain of being lonely and lost. 🥹🫂 It is the way Shavonne even let go of his initial expectations of what it means to be a good person or one who inflicts atrocities on those who most certainly deserve it.
Their HEA is so hard-earned and deserved - such an emotional train-wreck of feels and sadness that concludes on such a hopeful and happy note for their beautiful bittersweet love story (yes, I'm gonna call it that). 🥰 How even murderous or intimidating Lewellyn may be - that was not always the case; his backstory -- tragic and depressing are too small a word to describe his suffering and mental and physical anguish and torture. 😢 There is a healthy growth to how Shavonne takes his weakness and makes it his strength; what ultimately made Lewellyn fall for him, and how he forged headfirst into danger to rescue the man who saved him from himself. 🩶🩵
“But no matter who he is, he's the only one who loves me.”
This may be one of the most perfect stories of its kind that I've read. It gripped me instantly and would not let me go. Parts were mysterious, parts were sweet, and many parts were agonizing. The simultaneous journeys these characters go on are filled with love and self-actualization. Lewellyn and Shavonne both have my whole heart, and if they hadn't gotten their happy ending, I would have rioted. It's best to read this without knowing much, so I'll keep this brief, but I absolutely adored it.
“It was too cold to be adoration… too hot to be friendship… and too deep to mere affection. Like an old scar that throbs for no reason… a feeling that comes with lingering pain. Lewellyn gave that feeling a name. “Love””.
For a moment there, I thought we weren't going to get a HEA for this pair. They've been through a lot. Too much, in fact. Their HEA was hard won and worth it
For a second, I thought they were going to die. I almost cried (I was controlling myself a lot)!
I really, really liked this story! It was completely different from what I initially thought it would be about. Full of surprises and mystery, it always gets you thinking “Why?” “What happened?”.
Oh great I am crying and a mess even though I already knew since the beginning how this ends (, I mean). But yes oh gosh, got a tiny bit of whiplash seeing the change of mood for the last chapter, but Definitely happy to have read this, even if I cried a lot more than I usually would for a BL, and damn it I wish there was already an English translation of the original novel that is complete so I could read it, but I’ll wait happily 🥲
And in regards to the ending: . And the numerous throwbacks/references/foreshadowing in the previous chapters and especially in this?? AHHH I feel like I could pick up on them but not all of them and I feel the need to re-read right now to catch every little detail that the artist added in.
Definitely still have a few small questions. Namely: But besides these? I’m still overall really really happy with the manhua (especially since I have a feeling the novel would have covered these, I have high hopes!)
I am so so glad this is ended up having a happy ending, I’ve sobbed so many time in the past volumes I needed to recover myself and see them finally together and all happy. This was one crazy journey, I am OBSESSED with this series!! No joke all the obsession, creepiness, toxicity, possessiveness, miscommunication, and protectiveness, it was all just so adorable I will never recover from this series, it’s one my favourites now! I’m so glad I randomly decided to read this, my instincts were right, the vibe just set perfectly with me, the tension was amazing, I also loved the minimal intimate scenes, they were more just of touching, holding, and kissing, and I absolutely enjoyed it. The art style was really good too! I literally told myself if I’m gonna commit to a 90 chapter manhwa no matter what ending this series gives out because I just loved this story and plot so much, and the details were spot on! I feel like I’ve just made a connection with this story. I will think about this for the rest of my life. 0:)

Not bad, but 4 stars at most. The plot was intriguing in the first season, but the end was somehow disappointing. There was so much going on, but they dealt with it in like 3-4 chapters. I really wanted some more action, some more explanations. It's still a good read.
