Suvorov Bratva #1

Sombre promesse

Rate this book

Public rape

Well we got another writer that thinks rape is romantic or supposed to help you understand the anti hero ....here's a vowel for you for free .This doesn't make him a anti hero just a rapist and you a sick writer for throwing this out there as dark romance .
I'm beginning to worry about our humanity path . If we are now loving these abusive men and eating it up we are in big trouble .
This writer thinks its sexy showing her giving herself ( virgin of course) to him in her boss office but upon getting home her brother ( a laze mafia man ??) Sell her to same guy she just has sex with . The main male character then proceed to tell her to strip,in front of brother and his body guards, and then rapes her on table while brother and others watch ...now isn't that gonna make you tingle and grab a fork and knife to cut this romance up and eat it for breakfast, lunch and supper?? N O.
If you like men that don't care about their supposed future woman and rape is just in their resume this one is for you ..Me I don't waste my time ,brain cell or headaches on this trash .

DNF. I read to 46% and gave up. It wasn't super annoying/offensive, I just didn't want to give it any more of my time. Liya is weak and not at all compelling. She gets raped by Pavel in front of his goons and her own brother (who offers her up as a business deal) and yet we're all supposed to immediately forget it happened. She calls it "embarrassing" later in the story when really it should have been traumatic. She even rationalizes it as ok because her brother is the head of their family so if he wanted her to get raped like that then it must be ok since she has a duty to do as he pleases. WTF???? The author doesn't find a balance between ruthless Bratva boss and soft sided brother/friend. Pavel just comes off dual-personality that never resonate to a single person. Liya's best friend, Willow, was the only character I liked until she gave up fighting for her friend, Liya, too quickly. I was actually routing that everyone died very early in the story so I gave up.

This outstanding bratva/mafia romance has a somewhat, darkish undertone. The plot is well-written & filled with intriguing, suspenseful situations that is well-described & good world building. The characters are portrayed as individually unique with believable personality and/or emotional flaws and are inclined to be devious with ulterior motives. The secondary characters play good supporting roles.
It is about: a domineering mafia mob boss (Parvel Sergeyevich) is quite determined to claim a young woman (Liya Bernadetti) for his own, with or without her consent and makes a deal with her unscrupulous brother (Jonas).
There is: various kinds of bratva/mafia crime syndicates, family issues, deceit, betrayal, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, secrets, manipulations, devious plans, threats, warnings, a forced marriage, danger, devious intentions, violence, confrontations, conflict, emotional turmoil, distrust, memories, strange attractions, doubts & some compromises. Sadly this mafia romance ends in a cliffhanger & I look forward to the next book in great anticipation.

I will come into this review saying that for the last couple of weeks I have been having a hard time enjoying some of the titles I’ve chosen. Maybe it’s just been bad luck that I’ve found so many poorly written books or maybe it’s just me and perhaps a “funk” I’m going through, but all the same, I didn’t enjoy this book and I’ll tell you why.

— Minor Spoilers—

-Tropes Used did not connect.
So what I mean by this is that our heroine was a virgin and the guy she ends up RANDOMLY giving it up to one night at closing time ends up being the guy she’s forced to marry. Typically the virgin trope is used to create a strong bond between the heroine and the hero. However, he never even acknowledges it and I don’t know if he even knew she was a virgin. She doesn’t seem to have any lingering connection to him because of it either. It was basically used in passing and never mentioned again. It wasn’t used to develop the plot or the character, so why even include it in the first place? It felt completely random. Then there’s the forced/arranged marriage trope which I’m generally a huge fan of because it’s hard to mess up. This trope relies heavily on having the two main characters get to know one another on an intimate level (physically, mentally, and emotionally) whether they initially want to or not. Now, when this is done in its best form, you also have an underlying conflict that’s intermixed and even utilized to help the characters get to know one another further by how they respond to the challenges presented in the conflict. The hero and heroine didn’t get to know one another outside of the conflict and didn’t really interact that much yet you’re just told and expected to believe they’ve really fallen for each other. And given the story I was presented with, I find that hard to believe. There were no reasons shown as to why they would fall so hard for each other. I mean he has her stripped by a group of men and precedes to rape her in front of her brother! I’m not saying there could ever even be any hope of redemption after something that traumatizing and cruel, but it’s never circled back to in an attempt for him to even try to apologize or make amends for it!

-Some events didn’t make sense as real life scenarios.
Our heroine finds out she’s pregnant. It’s made clear that she’s probably a month or so along and within a matter of DAYS they’re throwing her a baby shower. Now we get to this unbelievable baby shower, and her husband (supposed hero) has increased security, everyone is packing a gun and his bratva men are supposed to protect both him and his wife at all costs. But somehow her crazy, drunk brother not only makes it up to their penthouse apartment on the top floor, but he also slurs some insults, knocks the hero on his ass after the insults, and then proceeds to punch, choke slam, and start kicking our heroine on the floor before he is even attempted to be restrained, let alone killed….

-Final Thoughts
I will not be continuing this series. I gave it 2 stars because I was at least able to finish it, but it felt like a rambled story with no heart or thought really put into forming it. A lot of telling and no showing and I’m sorry but for a story like this to work, you have to make me feel what you’re insinuating the main characters are feeling and they missed the mark entirely on that front.

I have questions…

First, I was expecting this to be steamier, it wasn’t. There was a whole lot of time spent about the war between loyalties, so it made it a bit slow for what I was expecting. Also, did Liya have a baby shower as soon as she found out she was pregnant? I guess the timeline between events is vague, so it’s hard to tell. Then the chapters suddenly switching to completely different characters’ POV toward the end of the book really threw me off, it just felt inconsistent. I hope Willow and Karina get their own stories, because I’m always interested in side characters.

The big issue I have with this book is that the story kind of skips over Pavel and Liya’s interactions with each other. They’re usually just talking business and then it switches to Liya just recapping their time together (going back to the vague timeline and how much time has actually passed in this story) so there isn’t a lot of thorough build up of their relationship or romance. I know they both have their issues, but I’m not seeing their growth in their relationship. It went from ‘you’re forced to marry me and I’m using you as a pawn to I’m treating you like a queen/wife’.

I did like the part where he makes the waitress grovel, that seemed completely in his character, and the baby shower scene was completely in line with his alpha character and her acceptance of her brother. That was done well. Overall, I like the characters, I like the brewing war. Would love to see more scenes of Liya and Pavel together as a couple. Looking forward to the next book.

Raw, Emotional, Dangerous Bratva Dark Romance

This is a wild ride that delves deep into the world of the Suvorov Bratva. There is a lot violence, secrets, betrayals, lies, and deadly decision entwined throughout this forced marriage dark romance.

Pavel has been groomed to run the Bratva. Being Pakhan is his calling and he will stop at nothing to keep his Bratva flourishing. Liya and her brother Jonas are the remaining heirs to the Citta Nostra and her brother has just shipped her off to Pavel as payment to help him regain power. Liya knew her brother was cruel but she never thought he was this vindictive.

Liya is feisty and smart. She won’t be a quiet wife she is meant to be the Bratva Queen and the sooner Pavel realizes her true value the better off they all will be. This only book 1 so there is a-lot left to sort out in this crazy Bratva world but this is an epic start to a great series. Happy Reading!!

This thriller is full of suspense!...4.5 Stars!

Pavel and Liya’s story. Pavel, the head of the Russian (Bratva) Mafia meets bartender Liya at the nightclub he arrived at to collect some debt from the club owner. They hooked up and upon coming home after work that same night, she finds Pavel and his bodyguards in her and brother’s apartment only to find out that Jonas, her brother, sold her to Pavel for a promised deal..to help Jonas gain back the Italian Mafia kingdom which was to be his after his father died at the hands of the ruthless man Felix who claimed and stole the title and the Mafia business from him. Their arranged marriage becomes complicated when they start falling in love without declaring it. Actions speak better than words so to speak. This is a good, juicy, sexy and amazing book. Can’t wait to read the next sequel.

Liya is a young woman working at a bar trying to get by for herself and her brother. When she first meets Pavel, he comes into the bar looking for her boss, he’s charming and looks at her like no man ever has. But that changes when gets home and he’s there, with her brother. Pavel is head of the Bratva and he makes a deal with Liya’s brother, he’ll marry her and help her brother regain their family’s place in the Citta Nostra Mafia. But what he doesn’t say is his real motive. When Pavel first agrees to marry Liya she’s a tool, a pawn, and nothing more. He knows he won’t love her, he’s trained to shut that emotion away. But as time passes he’s surprised at just how helpful she really is.
This was a great start to Brook’s new series, Suvorov Bratva. I can’t wait to start book 2!

DNF at 65%

The character flow isn’t there for Liya. It’s incredibly inconsistent. Her dad was murdered by an associate but then she is surprised that her new husband is a killer when he does the same thing her dad did?

Her brother is abusive to her and she continues sticking up for him. But the author is trying to make her sound like she is smart? It doesn’t make sense

Then 24 hours after they meet they start talking about love and how the MMC is falling in love after r**ing her in front of her brother (btw there was no TW for this)

Why are we putting scenes in of the bad guys POV? Is there going to be no surprise or are we just laying it all out there?

DNF after giving multiple chapters of the bad guys POV and giving away the climax of the book

I DNF at around 40%.

MMC
1. Why would he have his brigadier’s strip his wife not once but twice. Especially for a shoulder tattoo that didn’t require complete nakedness.
2. He keeps saying she should be treated with nothing but dignity, but I do not think it means what he thinks it means? Because he treats her with anything but, using her in front of his men, etc.

MFC
1. Her thoughts about her brother made me pinch my nose shelf. He beats her, watches her get used, sells her, yet she still defends him?
2. She can’t handle eating at a fancy restaurant? It’s dinner. Sit. Eat. Done.
3. Wait she’s shocked her husband, the Pakhan of the Bratva is a killer?! Say it isn’t so! That’s where I stopped reading, I don’t see her character or the story getting any better.

Who will come out on top?

This is book one in the Suvorov Bratva series so be prepared for on heck of a cliffhanger ending. Liya just wants to live her own life and go to medical school. Too bad her brother wants to rule the Citta Nostra like his father did before he was murdered. In order for that to happen Liya's brother makes a deal with Pavel, the Pakhan of the Suvorov Bratva, to marry Liya. This is the first book in there story and I am looking forward to book two to find out what happens next.

Wow..SMH

At first, I was somewhat pissed off about how Liya was treated. Especially, by her own brother. Betrayal.. was felt. Then, the tables got turned, and he was eliminated. By her giving the signal. Crazy, yes.. That's just the half of it. You have to read book one in this series. I couldn't put it down.. On to the next one.. Can't wait...

Not for me.

Spoiler- I love a good mafia book but this wasn’t it for me. I expect the men in these kinds of books to be rough but rape is rape and that’s what he did to her. I just wasn’t a fan of the writing and didn’t like the story. I stopped halfway through the book. I do not recommend.

Good read, better than what the simple synopsis had in the back of the book. I love that Liya’s character develops with Pavel. Their relationship is a rocky one. Glad to note theres a good story line. Would recommend. I can’t wait to finish the series.

First book by this author, and first nice surprise. I like the way she writes, I like how she defines the characters, I like their inner voice. I really liked the plot, how the characters fit into it, and how the female character faces her moral doubts and evolves, I don't know if for better or worse. I give it a 4 star rating.

That said, I've stopped reading halfway through the second installment. It's not that it's worse than the first, which it's not at all, it's that this is fiction, and fiction for me is a kind of refuge where I hope to find something different from reality, without the ties of political correctness on the moral level, especially when I read stories about the mafia. My intuition tells me that the second installment, which begins by powerfully narrating a very interesting evolution of Liya's character, later begins to pose a path of redemption for the male protagonist that, frankly, prevents me from moving on. I don't look for characters in mob books who evolve towards good, but who are true to who they are and who they are meant to be, no matter what.

When a character like Parvel is so harshly defined in the first installment, so committed to his role within a brutal and tightly disciplined organization, I am disappointed by a very unbelievable evolution towards redemption. At this point, after skimming through the third installment my fears are confirmed. And that's why I leave it here. In any case, what for me is a brake, for many other readers will be the culmination of the success of a trilogy, because everyone is looking for something different in fiction, and the books are very well written. I encourage those who are not as prejudiced as I am to complete the story, because it has some frankly thrilling moments.

Good work by the author, I will try some of her other stories.

Dark Promise (Suvorov Bratva #1) is an intriguing dark romance story that is an intense start to a new series by Brook Wilder. From the first chapter you are pulled into all of the suspense, drama and mafia battles which will have an impact on Pavel and Liya 's journey together.

What happens when Pavel, Mafia Pakhan who is rich and powerful meets and ends up in an arranged marriage to Liya who is connected to another Bratva, sold by her brother for his own nefarious plans. Now these two will have a give and take start, until Pavel shows Liya what it means to be his. This dark story is full of romance, psychological suspense , abuse, murder, violence and mayhem as we get an in depth look into the world of the Bratva and all of the chaos Pavel has to go through as Pakhan. Can Pavel protect Liya the woman he has come to love, tame her and get what he wants, give her a baby? Will Liya lower her guard and give herself fully to this handsome intense man as she is growing into her position? Will she give up the plans she has for herself? As violence and havoc surround both of them will Pavel be able to keep her safe or will Liya prove what it means to be a Queen when she gives the order to take down a traitor? What will it mean for her and Pavel when he sees a change in her? Will they work together to keep his Bratva from falling apart and take down their enemies or will Liya who has become a strong willed woman will assert herself and take matters into her own hands? We now have to wait for Wicked Vows to learn Pavel and Liya's future together.

This was an interesting start to a new Bratva series. We get to meet Pavel and Liya when they happen to meet at the bar she works at. Then things start to go downhill from there for poor Liya.
I really wanted to like Liya. I did feel bad for her but I wish she would have stood up for herself more. The crap her brother did should have sent her running but she just made excuses for him. Drove me nuts!
Pavel was a good character. He came across as a strong leader although a little indecisive at times. You could tell he wanted to care about things, mainly Liya, but it had been trained out of him to feel anything, especially softness towards a woman. Getting to see those moments when he would let his guard down were rewarding.
The story was entertaining and enjoyable. Lots of different ways this story can pan out and I'm excited to see how that goes. It had a good flow and kept me engaged and entertained. I would recommend it!

One and done.

This author can write well, so I am going to give her pass on this series. There is a fine line between entertainment and sadistic acts by characters that possess little appeal.

The first several chapters of this book had promise until the story became overly dramatized never gaining solid momentum to carry through the characters and storyline. I have read too many excellent novels in this genre to waste my time on characters and a storyline that was not executed well. Both MC's were impossible to connect with; neither having any redeeming qualities. Both characters were flawed, as many are in this genre; but who spent too much time basking in their misery vs., moving forward. The inner-thoughts of each character seemed immersed in actual events but weren't clearly identified making the flow and the writing seem off.

Liya’s character was spineless and easily manipulated by both her brother and Pavel. Her brother was physically and mentally abusive to her and yet she supposedly loved and supported him. When you reduce the MFC to nothing but a woman who has no self-worth or spine in a story like this, it just becomes a story of constant abuse whether it is physical or mental. I felt no connection to her, only regret that she never stood up for herself. There were instances whereas she tried to stand up for herself only to once again back down like a "deer in the headlights" Pavel’s was a self-serving, not well organized Russian crime boss who possessed no boundaries when it came to getting what he wanted. He was a master manipulator that played Liya like a marionette.

Two portions of the book that were overtly disturbing were when Pavel has her stripped and then fu….ks her in front of her brother ( who sold her like a side of beef) and his men. There is no coming back from rape or a MMC who completely demoralizes his fiancé to make him look like a man. No female character with any self- worth can think that is okay, especially when she is being FORCED to marry him.

The second instance is the final portion of the book (at the baby shower) when Jonas is physically attacking Liya while everyone stands around watching and does nothing to stop a drunk man's rage. Her inner dialogue during that portion of the book becomes so immersed with the actual events that it becomes a convoluted mess. When Pavel makes her decide whether her brother lives or dies (as she lays on the floor) is another nail in the coffin resulting in another portion of this book overtly dramatized. What a coward Pavil is, where is his outrage? Knock Knock Liya...you are nothing but a broodmare; he doesn't care about you.

The book ends with deceased Jonas having a possible heir which leads into book two...more drama to a story that has already been overly dramatized.

The book was well written just not my favorite. I personally couldnt connect with it. I felt that the female character was too weak. I wanted her to stand up for herself after the first few times. I kept basically yelling in my head why arent you doing this or why are you doing that. I understand conflict in a book but this was just not my type of romance book. I was looking for more romance as well.

too many POVs

This book had a decent plot and a variety of characters. BUT for the reader to know a character you do NOT need a chapter from their perspective. I think there were 5 POVs? Maybe 6? Yes, switching between the leads fine but the Villain and the other villain? Totally unnecessary

It almost feels like reading the first few episodes of a TV show. Not bad just odd for a book

Warnings for on page: physical assault, SA, murder.

The pace is a little too slow for me. The storyline is really good. Pavel the Bratva boss is a little weak, but I felt little for Liya. She just irritated me. Her brother Jonas was the most realistic of them all. Alcoholic, abusive, power hungry slob. I did feel badly when Jonas would beat up on Liya. No one deserves that. On to book two.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Page-turner
Action-packed
Twisted
Tragic

it is a good read…..

However it feels like it is scattered everywhere. I normally finish a book like this in 2-3 days depending on work/life. This one took me a week. I don’t know if I really want to finish the series as I felt it was a struggle to read.

it was ok

This was very difficult to read the story line and plot have a lot of potential and could be great however it seems rushed and kind of scattered about. It isn’t as fluid as a read as it should be. With proper editing and filler content it could be a great book.
