With each wave of resistance in life, it can be so tempting to simply give up. To quit the difficult calling. To leave the meaningful relationship. To walk away from the dreams God placed on your heart.
If this is where you find yourself, take heart. Nick Connolly has also been there—and he’s written Don’t Give Up Just Yet for you to find the motivation and encouragement to help you to keep going. Together, we’ll different areas of our lives where resistance shows up and wreaks havocHow to work through struggles like doubt and seasons of waitingWhat the Bible has to say about dark nights of the soulWhen walking away is actually the right and healthy choiceHow to make difficult times work for your faith, not against it.God hasn’t let go of you. The other side of this hard time is closer than you think. Join Nick in the journey to choose persistence in the face of resistance; find renewed energy and faith; and confidently pursue the promise of who God made you to be.
I got this book on audible, as I always love listening to non-fiction books (in this season I can get through them faster!). But I'm glad I BOUGHT it, because there are a few chapters I want to read again (like the one on dreaming). Nick is very encouraging, and this biblical approach to the resistence we feel was spot on.
"there's more in me than I realize" "it's only when you stop that you will be able to keep going"
I never wanted it to end. Wow, what a beautiful message about persistence and how to Lord produces a plentiful harvest in the midst of every situation. So encouraging and can’t recommend enough!!
As a lifelong human who gets stuck in doing and loses sight for human being, this was just what my soul needed. The blessed reminder of the difference between Future tripping and Faithfully dreaming.
I've travelled a VERY UTTERLY human path that has taken me on a journey of healing and recovery in and through Jesus (ultimately) but with earthly human counsel at times. As such I was frequently and heavily counseled "to not future trip... Just live in today" Let me make clear that was not unwise counsel & very necessary for a season. That being said, this was the beautiful reminder that I can be present and live in today, while fueling my Faith for endurance by DREAMING!!!! And trusting God with all the rest of the how, when, etc. My actions can all live in today, while my hope lives this moment for the next and beyond. THIS book is like coffee for your soul on a winter's day when you have early chores still in the darkness. It will warm you, soothe you, and get you going again. I have it in all forms (hard copy, electronic, & audio) and would recommend anyone else do the same. So many gems pop out as you take it in with each medium. Enjoy! Dream! Persist! Don't give up, just yet!
Deeply spiritual truths presented in an easy to understand/digest style of writing. It never felt “preachy”, but rather like having a conversation with a friend over coffee.
I have already recommended this book to many friends, and will no doubt read it again sometime in the future.
I had been looking forward to this book for a while and wow did it not disappoint. So often while reading, I found myself backing up and REreading passages again because they were filled with such truth. For those who feel hopelessly stuck and exhausted from the constantly endurance you find yourself needing to exercise, I hope you read this book and find relief in Nick’s words and God’s truth.
Draws upon scripture and faith for a variety of different circumstances however lacks much depth and it’s hard to relate to some of his own circumstances. If you’re looking for a basic book when life feels a little bit tricky then this would be good but if you’re going through something really difficult and you really do feel like giving up then this book doesn’t do much.
Using the voice of a friend and guide, Nick walks you through resistance, its inevitability, and practical ways to befriend it so you can keep going. Written with compassion and authority, this book is much needed and one I will return to as seasons of resistance come.
Loved the guided questions in the back of the book that went along with each chapter. It really made me go back and think about application of the chapters or reflect on times when I did just want to give up
Incredibly honored to know Nick and be lead by him. Each page, just got a little bit better and raw. Finding myself returning to chapter again and again in the past few seasons. The words and truths written on each page are a gift !
Life is about choices. Choosing to persist, enduring in seasons with where there is resistance at every turn, is the kind of work God calls his people into. Nick explores this, both personally and theologically.
In my own journey, I’ve learned that God will always be in the work of changing people, changing me to be more like him. That’s not something he will ever stop doing and in my experience it’s these seasons of resistance where I change the most. Change the ways I’m thinking, my heart, or changing my actions.
Don’t Give Up Just Yet is a call to endure and Nick doesn’t explore this topic lightly or without sensitivity to the situations we should walk away from. There’s some very practical ways Nick shares for how to persist in resistance and the types of resistance we can experience.
If you’re in a season of a lot of resistance or love someone who is, give this a read or listen. You could definitely listen to it in a weekend.
This was a deeply encouraging and super practical book on how to embrace the resistance we come up against in our lives and in our callings. Nick is a pastor through and through and it definitely shines in this book. It’s less theological and more a helpful approach for practical ways to stay persistent in the areas we’ve been called to show up in.
This book gave me more hope than I was expecting. I had never heard of the author of this book, but he did an amazing job writing about the Christian experience in perseverance and hardships (“resistance”) we are set up to experience in life. He uses great analogies, relies on biblical and spiritual backing for his emphasis on his objectives and points.
I needed this book many times, and I come back to it many times (before starting work as a missionary and during my pursuit for the lord in my mission work. Including my life as a Christian in general). It real, it is hard, but it is also beautiful.
I really enjoyed this one! It’s a must-read for anyone facing setbacks and needing a reminder that faith is always worth holding onto. I first picked it up while attending Bright City Church in Charleston for a season, and I’m so glad I did.
Nick Connolly offers such an encouraging call to resilience in a world that often pushes us to quit. He blends biblical truth with personal insight beautifully, reminding us to push through obstacles, trust God in uncertainty, and keep going with persistence. Uplifting, practical, and full of hope—I definitely recommend it!
