Ex-Navy SEAL, Gus Walsh, convalescing at the Brighter Days Rehab Ranch prior to reporting for duty as a Brotherhood Protector in West Yellowstone, postpones his departure from the ranch when he discovers a damsel in distress, hiding out in the barn.
Survivor of human trafficking, Peyton Running Bear needs a place to hide from the people who abused her and don’t want her to reveal their dirty, dangerous secret. When notifying law enforcement isn’t an option, she is forced to accept the protection and assistance of a stranger with broad shoulders and a smile that reminds her that there are good people left in the world.
Award-winning author Elle James grew up as an air force military brat. She received her work ethic from her rock-solid father, her creative streak from her artistic mother and inspiration from her writing partner and sister, Delilah Devlin. As a former member of the army reserves and a current member of the air force reserves, she's traveled across the United States and to Germany, managed a full-time job, and raised three wonderful children. She and her husband have even tried their hands at ranching exotic birds (ostriches, emus and rheas) in the Texas hill country. Ask her, and she'll tell you what it's like to go toe-to-toe with an angry three-hundred-and-fifty-pound bird and live to tell about it!
Her adventures in the army and air force reserves, and the wild antics of her life on a small ranch in Texas give her fodder for mystery, suspense and humor in her writing. Elle writes gothic, paranormal mystery for the Harlequin Intrigue line and paranormal romantic comedy for Dorchester Publishing. A former manager of computer programming and project management professionals, Elle is happy she now has the opportunity to pursue her writing full time.
I absolutely adored Gus, but the character that I was most especially impressed with was Peyton. After all she has gone through…..also a huge thank you to Elle James for taking care with such a sensitive topic and one that needs all the support and attention so it can be stopped.
Hands down one of my favorite reads of the year! All the action and suspense and add in an intense and emotional storyline. So far beyond amazing!!
I most definitely recommend this five star book!!!
I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review
I liked going back to Brighter Day Ranch and the guys there. There may be triggers for some since this has to do with human trafficking. Peyton was abducted from the Rez. Gus is at the ranch and getting ready to go back to his team when he finds Peyton in the barn. Trust is a big issue after what she went through. This is a heartbreaking story. HEA.
Awesome book. Peyton and Gus two people ready to take on the world by taking care of the past and present problems. While figuring out their feelings. Another awesome Brotherhood Protector taking care of his girl, while fighting against the bad in this world. Love it.
There is no settling in period with this story. It grabs you by the heart and keeps on going. You're heart pounds right along with Peyton as she escapes her horrific confines and makes her way to safety. She shouldn't feel safe anyway near a male, especially not one as strong and powerful looking as Gus. But something about him screams safety and Peyton needs that right now - even if it's just the illusion of safe.
Gus has his own issues with PTSD and doesn't want to spook Peyton. But he can also help her through some of the rocky times he knows she has ahead of her. But if what she needs right now is to save those who were captive with her? Well sign him and the BP team up!
If you are in anyway triggered by SA/R&pe/kidnapping or human trafficking please maybe miss this one out. The author treats the subject matter with care and attention and there's no gratuitous scenes but it may still hit far too close to home for some. The author also highlights the plights of missing indigenous women - who don't usually get the full-court press of media that others would - and the all too awful trafficking they can be forced into.
Peyton is strong, determined and emotionally invested in catching those who held and abused her. Gus is the perfect mix of protective hero and wounded warrior and all too aware of the pitfalls of PTSD that Peyton may fall into. He's also not perfect - that man is almost as afraid of snakes as I am!
I was glad to see Gus be so patient with Peyton. He was able to help Peyton deal with her PTSD and panic attacks. The subject matter was difficult. I appreciated that it wasn't graphic.
This was a very fast paced story. I think that is why some of the things I expected to read never occurred. Considering what Peyton endured, the pace of the story could have slowed down a little, and I wouldn't have minded at all.
I will say that I read this book in one sitting. Once I got started, I could not put it down until I reached the end.
I was glad the Brotherhood Protectors were able to do what they do best. I was glad Gus and Peyton got their HEA.
Yet I have questions. One being, how did Snake know? I also wish the justice or retribution, (whichever you prefer), had been more detailed. The epilogue was a nice touch, and always appreciated. I would give this 3.5 stars.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
What an absolutely amazing read. I don’t know how Elle James does it time after time but boy am I glad she does. Book after book we’re given a perfect voyage into the magical worlds that Elle creates, worlds we don’t want to leave.
Seeing Hank again was so great. I love getting to see past characters again, it’s like visiting old friends.
This story doesn’t start off slow, it starts with a running jump and keeps going throughout the story. You are opened to a myriad or emotions from heartbreak to heart stopping joy.
Gus is a larger than life character. He’s strong and a definite alpha male, but he’s also gentle, empathetic and caring. He’s the whole package. The kind of man we also wish for and Elle James has given him in full technicolour magic.
The way he treats and cares for Peyton is so beautiful and heart warming. His first priority is Peyton and that doesn’t change for a second, which is enough to make your heart to skip a beat and your knees go weak.
Peyton is such a powerful character. She’s strong, the fact that she can function at all after everything she’s been through is a testament to her strength of character. She has such a beautiful soul and I am in complete awe of her.
Watching the way that Gus makes Peyton feel safe and a Peyton makes Gus’s heart complete was a truly stunning thing to watch. I feel fortunate to have had a front row seat to such a phenomenal journey.
Can’t recommend Elle James or this book highly enough.
Can I say happy reading if the book subject is heavy? Well I will. Elle James strikes again with Saving Peyton, Brotherhood Protectors Yellowstone, Book #8 in the series. This book deals with serious topics in a way that gets you invested but doesn't drag you down. It starts ...bam...unexpectedly with our abducted heroine Peyton's dramatic escape from captivity and a forced prostitution ring. What makes it real is that this isn't some grand overseas ring, but an "it could happen to anybody" scenario. Luckily it is portrayed in an easy to read way. Peyton fortuitous manages to hitch a ride on a horse trailer heading to Brighter Days Rehab Ranch- where our hero Gus is recuperating from anxiety and PTSD from his Navy SEAL days. He is also a member of the Brotherstone Protectors team in West Yellowstone. The adventure begins when Gus finds Peyton in the ranch barn and helps her. Have you ever heard the saying that once you rescue someone, they are your responsibility forever? Well at least in this scenario, it is a good thing for these two! He needs to be a hero and she needs a hero. Can these two traumatized characters find what they each need? This book is a satisfying story of healing, finding love, and of course satisfyingly getting the bad guys-with the help of some old friends of course. Great read. I am happy to leave a review of this ARC book!
This latest addition to the series belongs to former Navy SEAL Gus Walsh, and Peyton Running Bear. Gus has been staying at the Brighter Days Ranch recovering from PTSD and is now ready to start his new job with the Brotherhood Protectors. A few months ago, Peyton , a native American young woman, was taken as part of a sex trafficking ring and since then has been suffering from sexual abuse by many men who pay an evil man by the hour, has been suffering beatings , and has been drugged most of the time . Weak but determined to help not only herself but the other girls held alongside her, she is able to escape. Gus finds her in a barn and from that moment on, vows to help her get better and find the girls as well as the man responsible for the atrocities he has committed. Though at times heartbreaking, it was also a story about second chances in life and love. While this story is fiction, the sad reality is that sex trafficking is very real. According to the Garden of Truth study, 40% of sex trafficking survivors were Native American or First Nations women. As a society and as individuals more needs to be done to stopped this horrific situation. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own,
Gus finds himself in the hardest position of his career, as a protector he wants to rush in, grab Peyton, hold her tight and carry her to safety. But as an abused woman Peyton needs more from him, she needs to feel safe and in control. He needs information to help her, but she needs to trust him first, being patient is frustrating for Gus but seeing her abused and ravaged body has him determined to provide everything she needs to heal, including the control that is so vital. Peyton is so strong, stronger than she ever imagined she could be, and despite the abuse she still has a huge heart that breaks for the women she left behind. Whilst you may not relate to the trauma she has survived, you cannot help but respect and love the woman she is and the fight she shows. Gus steals your heart from the first moment he shows vulnerability and insecurity when discussing leaving the ranch with Hannah, but seeing the compassion, respect, care and love he then showers Peyton with, expecting nothing in return, has you falling hard and fast for him. They are both slightly dinted and emotionally damaged, but together they are stronger and both embrace every day knowing how quickly situations can change.
This the latest offering in the Brotherhood Protectors Yellowstone but it also brings in the Brighter Days Rehab Centre and The Brotherhood Protectors from Montana and more than just a help on the phone. Gus was having trouble sleeping due to his PTSDE so Stone Jacobs sent him of to Brighter Days in an effort to help He is quite happy there and has in fact become a little stagnant not wanting to move forward That all changes when he finds a stow away in the barn at the ranch. He instantly decides that be is not only going to help Peyton Running Bear to find a future for herself but is determined with the help if his team to rescue the other women trapped like she was in a human trafficking ring one right on their own doorstep So begins the adventure as they try to track down the mobile traffickers not knowing who to trust meanwhile feelings are growing between them even though Peyton thinks she is to unclean for any man to want Can Gus convince her that she was a victim and that he is the right man for her.
This is book eight in the Brotherhood Protectors Yellowstone series and it is an excellent read . Elle James approaches the tragic topic of human trafficking with respect and compassion. The H/h in this book is Gus Walsh and Peyton Running Bear.
When Gus finds Peyton in the barn, one look at her and he knows she needs his help. Peyton is running from the men who abused her and needs food, sleep and a place to feel safe. Gus gives her a room at the lodge to help her get through this dark time.
When she finally starts to trust him, she tells him that there are still girls she left behind that need saving. When Gus talks to the Brotherhood Protectors, they are all in. The men who make up the residents of the lodge use their unique skills to help people in trouble. Gus and Peyton are wonderful together. I love all the characters. This book was given to me as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
When Peyton escapes human traffickers after months of captivity, her harrowing escape lands her on a Brighter Days Rehab Ranch where Gus is recovering from PTSD before he joins the BH in Yellowstone. Naked, starving, freezing, dehydrated and abused when found by Gus, has them rushing her to the hospital but Peyton is not saying a word, she doesn’t want to be found until she can rescue the other women being held. With Gus on her side and the BH protectors, she may have a chance to end the traffickers and free the other women….if she can trust Gus after all she’s been through. A great read with suspense, surprises, great characters and a sensitive issue that is handled with care. I liked Peyton, her strength, courage and desire to help the other woman. As well as Gus, patient, protective and saw Peyton as the beautiful woman she is inside and out and didn’t judge. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
(4.5) Gut grabbed me at page 1 and kept me the whole time. We meet Peyton in the very beginning as she is trying to breath. Gus (Yellowstone Protector) shows up a little later at The Brighter Day Rehab Ranch. Peyton, Gus and the Ranch sucked me in, twisted my emotions and threw me back out. Saving Peyton deals with human trafficking and brings to light in story the high percentage of Indigenous people who go missing. Gus is at the ranch dealing with PTSD from his service days. This was a real heart wringer. I loved the HEA! This could have been a much longer book, extending the chapter(s) of Peytons on dealings, therapy as well as her and Gus dealing with it all together. I would gladly pay for an extended book! Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #SavingPeyton #BrotherhoodProtectorsYellowstone #ElleJames #TwistedPage #Bookfunnel
After spending some time at Brighter Days Ranch learning to cope with his PTSD Gus is looking forward to returning to the people and his job with Brotherhood Protectors. That plan is put on hold when he finds Peyton and now he will do anything to protect her, help her heal and rescue the other people who are still enduring what she managed to escape.
Peyton has been through an experience that no one should have to where she was abducted and abused. She isn’t certain is she can trust Gus, but she also realizes that she doesn’t have a lot of options especially since she wants to help the women she left behind.
Peyton is so much stronger and more resilient than even she knows while Gus is understanding and lets her set the pace as they take us on a journey that is filled with action and emotion.
Peyton has been held against her will for a couple of months. The chance for escape comes and she takes it. She and other women are being held, drugged and part of a portable brothel system. She slides into the back of a pick up truck one of the “customers” leaves in. At a truck stop she hides in a horse trailer. Hiding in the stall of the abused horse she hooked a ride with last night she is found by Gus.
A trip to the hospital and Gus’ first assignment. Peyton needs to get back to the trailers to save the other women before Snake kills them. First she needs medical attention, food, physical strength and the drugs out of her system. No surprise the Brotherhood Protectors are ready to save the day.
A great suspense story with betrayal, action, sweetness and romance. Gus is recovering at the Brighter Days Rehab Ranch before going to work for the Brotherhood Protectors in West Yellowstone. The day before he leaves, he finds a woman hidden in the barn. Peyton was kidnapped off the side of the road and forced in to sex trafficking. She manages to escape and hides in the barn with an abused horse. She doesn't know who to trust because her captives had spies everywhere. She wants to rescue the other women. Can Gus and the Protectors keep Peyton safe and rescue the other women? A great suspense story with betrayal, romance, sweetness and action. I read an arc of this book and this is my review.
Saving Peyton is so good I didn't want to put it down. Gus Walsh knew it was time for him to leave Brighter Days Rehabilitation ranch and rejoin his West Yellowstone team, but he was hesitant to leave the peaceful place he was in. Little did he know finding a frightened woman in the horse barn would be the push he needed to return to the brotherhood protectors. Peyton has escaped after being abducted and has been captive in a human trafficking ring. The only thing she wants is to rescue the other women being held. Gus gets his first assignment to protect and help Peyton find those women. It was nice to have Hank Patterson and Sadie helping with this case. From the first page, there is non-stop suspense. A great addition to the West Yellowstone series.
Saving Peyton is book 8 in the Brotherhood Protectors, Yellowstone by Elle James and sure do love the BHP’s!
Ex Navy Seal Gus Walsh has gone to the Brighter Days Rehab Ranch to help with his PTSD before heading to Yellowstone to begin working with the BHP’s…now he is ready to leave only to discover a woman on the run from her abusers.
Peyton “Jane” Running Bear is abducted, held against her will, drugged, abused mentally and physically but escapes and ends up at Brighter Days Ranch.
Such a well written, suspenseful story of bravery, heart, compassion for others and so much more…
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Gus and Peyton. Gus is at a rehab ranch working on his PTSD and while there he finds a woman on the run from a horrific situation. Immediately he calls his team so they can protect her, but that evolves to a much bigger charge when she opens up about the trafficking. Danger encompasses her and those involved. We see the inclusion of Hank and Swede, the West Yellowstone team, members from the rehab ranch and a slightly inclusion of a reservation. Peyton is strong and her will is impressive for saving others and working on herself. The story has some very heavy moments and topics, but also some beautiful moments of overcoming adversity and believing in oneself and love. A good and quick read!
Gus is an ex-SEAL trying to deal with his PTSD & the loss of his best friend. He literally jumps on Peyton, who is hiding away from her captors, when he believes she is one of his co-workers playing a trick on him. Peyton is has escaped from a sex tracking ring, and she insists she must go back for the other women before any law enforcement agency is notified. When Gus notifies his new employers, The Brotherhood Protectors, the chase is on. Will Gus be able to protect Peyton, while taking these people down? Miss James has, yet again, brought us another tightly written story of non-stop action, love and danger in an ever changing world! This ARC was given to me for an honest review.
It's always an adventurous and wonderful read from this author in her Brotherhood World. This is Gus and Peyton's story. Gus is at the Ranch due to his PTSD when he discovers a hidden surprise in the hay. Peyton has escaped from traffickers, drugged and forced into prostitution she is terrified for her life. Hospitalised for her trauma, dehydration and fatigue she is slowly on the mend. Gus has a soft spot for her and she will be his case to keep her safe. The mission is to rescue the other girls before it's too late, danger surrounds them. Will they all save the day and put the criminals where they belong? Fantastic story, it was one thing after another from the get go.
I felt so sorry for Peyton and the other women. The torture they were put through is heartbreaking. Peyton was kidnapped, drugged and raped. She was held, along with other women, forced to be a sex slave. When she finally was able to get free, she knew she couldn't trust anyone in law enforcement or anyone else. She was discovered by Gus, and he needs her to trust him so he can help her. Peyton just knows that she has to save the other women before the men who took her kills them all. If she doesn't, the men will disappear only to do the same thing elsewhere. Can Gus get her to trust him and the Brotherhood Protectors. They may be her only hope.
I really enjoyed this read! It pulled me in from beginning to end and had plenty to hold my attention the entire time. I enjoyed these characters and watching them come together and figure things out. Peyton has been through a lot and it is taking a lot of strength and bravery to escape and deal with what she has been through. Trusting anyone is a hard stretch but she takes the chance and Gus shows her that there are still good people in the world and ones that treat each other with kindness. I loved watching things blossom amidst the story of taking down the sex traffickers and keeping Peyton safe. This story was well written and entertaining. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
While I love a good romantic suspense I don't like books that have too much romance and not enough suspense. You know like some authors where the love scenes are the plot. I don't like that. I now know that the exact opposite is true as well. A romance book with no love scenes?! Is she for real? Barely a hint of one at the very end. The storyline was good mybut not good enough to make up for no love scenes. I absolutely hate this book and will make a mental note to never read anything from this author again. The only reason it gets two stars instead of one is because the plot is decent.
The Brighter Days Ranch is the place for anyone that needs help to overcome PTSD. Gus is the newest protector in the Brotherhood Protectors Yellowstone but is having problems with his PTSD and has been sent there to get help.
Peyton was abducted and forced to become a sex worker in a dirty trailer that moves around so they don’t get caught. Peyton knows the only way out is to escape and then come back for the other girls. This book keeps you turning the pages as Peyton tries to find a way.
Peyton is on the run from her kidnappers and landed at The Brighter Day Rehab Ranch.
Gus works for Brotherhood Protectors Yellowstone. Hannah and Taz run the The Brighter Days Rehab Ranch.
Peyton and Gus met in an od and unusual way ( she was hiding in the barn ) Gus is assigned as her bodyguard by The Brotherhood Protectors Yellowstone( he takes his job very seriously).
Can they save Peyton and the others from the evil twisted nasty jerks ? Can they have a Happily Ever After?
This book has suspense , intrigue and a chance at love.
This is book 8 in the Brotherhood Protectors Yellowstone series and it features Peyton and Gus. This story is tragic and really pulls on the heartstrings. Peyton’s situation was detailed and terrible. She was no shrinking violet. Her and Gus just meshed well as friends and eventually more.
This story line is fantastic and kept me guessing how things would play out. Of course the characters are completely awesome, as always. We didn’t see a whole lot of the rest of the Brotherhood until the end. Regardless, this was a great read!
Saving Peyton: Gus had finished his time at rehab. Hannah said its time to go back to brotherhood protectors. So he started packing but part of him didn't want to leave because he was worried that he wouldn't be okay. He knew it was time. His realize he left his leather jacket in the barn so he went and retrieved it from where he left it but it wasn't there. He heard a noise and went and investigated it. It was an interesting surprise. It was a great addition to the series. Fantastic writing.
Gus and Peyton's story is my new favorite in this series. Navy SEAL, Gus is being told he is ready to leave the rehab ranch. He now possesses tools to be able to function and start his new job with the Yellowstone division of the Brotherhood Protectors. But, when he jumps from a haystack on to someone, he is stunned to realize what he has found. His first assignment. Peyton has endured so much and is escaping a horrific situation when she is found out inside of a barn. This story is really good!
Gus suffers from panic attacks and has been staying at Brighter Days learning to cope with them. Peyton had been kidnapped and has broken free. She ends up at Brighter Days after hitching a ride in the trailer. Gus has just found out he is being released to go to his job when he finds Peyton in the hay. While Gus is protecting Peyton, they are working with the Protectors to find the other missing women who are being held. Will Gus be able to prove to Peyton she is worth it? Will they find the missing women?
