Harmony is a mirage.

Sure, there is safety. Everybody receives a predefined purpose before birth. And scarcity is nonexistent! But there is a hidden cost.

The law has reduced free will to a fantasy. People can make any choice they want, but obedience and selfless dedication to purpose are the only ones that do not invite punishment. Beneath the imposed veil of peace and abundance, however, is a grim reality where torture is but one thought away and war continues to fester in distant outposts. This collection of interconnected stories exposes the pitfalls ordinary citizens face under the watchful regime that rules our Milky Way, but they also redefine the meaning and origin of life itself.

The Mandate of Purpose. Golmenus runs afoul with the law when he allows his daughter to develop an unsanctioned passion.

The Illness of Wayward Citizens. Because he indulged a dangerous urge, Solla faces serious charges, but as he navigates his punishments, he learns he has a secret mandate—one he can never remember.

Duty Between Fire and Ice. A looming volcanic eruption threatens Colfred’s family. When he tries to save them from the coming disaster, he realizes that the biggest hazard he must overcome is not from nature.

The Refugee Conundrum. When a starship commander responds to a call for help, he never foresees that his choices would pit him against the galaxy’s most feared outlaws.

The Recycler’s Apprentice. As a scientist, Galhan enjoys a cozy lifestyle. That changes when he assembles a banned lifeform. During the ensuing punishment, he discovers that to create a life, others must die.

Doomsday. Soon after Deepallan reports an anomaly near a major colony, the unthinkable rebellion. While shocked, he also knows the authorities would never allow such an outrage to go unchecked. Are those events connected in some fashion he has yet to discover, and could the mayhem spread to other worlds?

Brew of Chaos. A sudden explosion rattles Milveena and she realizes she has to warn somebody in any of the governing bureaus. However, nobody responds. Cut off, terrified, and threatened by unknown winged marauders, she races toward an ancient transmitter—a relic. Can she arrive in time, and will her efforts help end the violence that has engulfed her city?

Embarking upon an enthralling journey through a meticulously crafted dystopian universe, The Recyclers’ Paradise: Dust of the Gods by J. N. De Bedout offers readers a contemplative exploration of free will amidst a society bound by strict, predetermined purposes. The novel seamlessly intertwines seven distinct narratives, each unearthing different facets of a world where even the minutest act of rebellion comes at a dire cost.

The stories: “The Mandate of Purpose,” “The Illness of Wayward Citizens,” “Duty Between Fire and Ice,” “The Refugee Conundrum,” “The Recycler’s Apprentice,” “Doomsday,” and “Brew of Chaos,” unfold in a universe where mechanical brain implants dictate obedience, rendering any form of dissent punishable – ranging from temporary incapacitation to the chilling prospect of being recycled.

De Bedout’s initial tale, “The Mandate of Purpose,” delicately unwraps the realities of the world he has conjured, showcasing the stark contrast and parallelisms with our contemporary society. The narrative demonstrates a sharp understanding of societal structure and consequence, notably exploring what unfolds when a departure from the ordained path is neither corrected nor quelled. In a particular instance, “The Recycler’s Apprentice” sheds light on the peculiarities of a character who diverges from their prescribed societal role, peeling back the layers of conformity to reveal a subtle rebellion beneath.

While I enjoyed this book, I felt the potential of some narratives, such as “The Illness of Wayward Citizens” and “The Refugee Conundrum,” seem underexplored due to a scarcity of conflict, leaving me yearning for deeper, more impactful clashes. “Doomsday” and “Brew of Chaos” introduce an intriguing new threat, purportedly in the form of angels. The absence of a direct, tangible conflict between the introduced beings and the established Nosfelen tantalizes readers with what might have been an epic cosmic showdown.

In his world-building, De Bedout exhibits a remarkable depth, crafting a universe pulsating with rich history and complexity. Nonetheless, a few entities make unheralded appearances, their origins, and purposes shrouded in mystery, which might, on one hand, spark a sense of intrigue and on the other, birth a morsel of frustration due to the scarce exposition.

The Recyclers’ Paradise presents a compelling tapestry of interwoven stories, mirroring certain aspects of our current societal paradigms. While it beckons with the promise of deeper exploration and untold tales, it remains a thought-provoking read that implores reflection on freedom, destiny, and the fine line that perpetually dangles between order and rebellion.

The Recyclers’ Paradise (Dust of the Gods) by J. N. de Bedout is a spine-tingling, thrilling compilation of interrelated stories you mustn’t miss.
These science fiction stories narrate life in a world where genetic engineering and modifications exist. In this world that is set in a dark future, obedience is an unavoidable reality.
The protagonists are a group of recyclers, who have the task of decomposing and reconstructing materials so that society can use them again. Following these characters, the book explores what happens when technology dictates our way of life and our organisation as a society.
The author has a great ability to raise suspense until the end of each of the stories and finally release it in the most surprising and satisfying ways for readers. So, if you are a sci-fi lover, I highly recommend you read this book.

I would like to start by saying that the readers who embarks themselves on this reading should have plenty of time because it’s a somewhat long book. However, it’s inevitable to fall prey to the title because it’s extremely well narrated; it grabbed me and I didn’t even realize that I spent hours immersed in the stories.

Among its pages, we can find intricate storylines, deep character development, and vivid imagery which are expertly woven by the author, who has the amazing ability to take readers to whole different worlds.

I'm not going to lie, the cover disturbed me a bit at first but it also generated a creepy intrigue, so I decided to immediately start reading; I have no regrets.

An interesting novel
If you are a fan of short stories about new and tangled situations, then "The Recyclers' Paradise" will allure you for sure. J. N. de Bedout has come up with an interesting novel that comprises different stories with a thread of connection.
Each of them depicts situations that citizens may encounter in a place ruled by a tyrannic person called Milky Way. After reading some of them, I could visualize common aspects in regimes all over the world. So, I dare say that, in this case, reality exceeds fiction.
The characters are well-portrayed and dynamic; their lives take several turns and twists along the plot that make them change their mindsets or attitudes. They are twisted but entertaining tales worth the while.

The Recyclers' Paradise by J. N. de Bedout is an action-adventure sci-fi read with interconnecting stories that gives out an important message to the humanity. The story is unique with Recyclers that breakdown and rebuild new materials and the consequences that lay ahead of such choices. The side stories are interesting and intertwined that gives a sense of unrelenting adventures. I massively enjoyed the theme and the way the author portrayed various characters into blending a brilliant story. One can understand the concept of Freewill and what that means throughout the storyline and the attributes. The creativity is subpar and definitely a must-have in the sci-fi collection. I highly recommend this book.

This collection of stories invites the reader to really think about society and its future. It's a complex book to understand, with many different characters and side stories, but with a clear concept underlined: Free will.

The Recyclers' Paradise: Dust of The Gods is a book that makes you think about possible futures. Even though it's a fiction with characteristics of a Sci-Fi novel, I consider free will to be a concept that nowadays fewer people actually possess. A book that definitely got me thinking.

Overall, a great choice. J.N. De Bedout writes with an undeniable imagination, even though in some parts it got too complex and made me go back a few pages, the end result is magnificent.

The Recyclers' Paradise, Dust of the Gods, by author J. N. de Bedout is a compendium of stories in a dystopian future, that reflects about different aspects of a reality where the free will does not exist. Everyone must obey a predefined purpose assigned before birth. That watchful regime assures peace, security and order, but definitely limits the lives of all its citizens.
In addition to a captivating science fiction read, these stories value the freedom and rights we currently enjoy. This book takes the classic topic of galactic empires and presents it with a style and cadence that is engaging and thought-provoking, suitable for either sci-fi lovers or general fiction readers.

To enjoy and reflect.

It is a captivating sci-fi story to enjoy but also it is the description of a terrible -and possible- future that made me think a lot.
The Recyclers' Paradise (Dust of the Gods) by J. N. de Bedout tells a dystopic future in which technology has advanced immeasurably and controls their lives. The author develops several different stories that intertwine at one point to create a bigger and more interesting one.
I liked the plot and the imagination with which it is written. I had to read it very carefully because it is an intricate story but it was not a problem since it is very good and engaging. I recommend it for lovers of science fiction.

hard read, not a good flow.

I wanted to like this book and I stuck it out and read until the end. It took me months and I’m not a particularly slow reader. It was discombobulated and did not have a good flow. I kept thinking the next chapter would get me there and then … it abruptly ended. I can only say that I am relieved to be done.
