Look, I love a good holiday romance, but The Nick Before Christmas doesn’t just settle for a mistletoe-fueled love story—it takes a full deep dive into midlife reinvention, career crises, and the kind of self-reflection most people aggressively avoid until New Year's Eve. Nickie Wright has a successful career, a nice house, and a life that, on paper, should feel fulfilling—but instead, she’s on the verge of a full-on breakdown during a Christmas in July celebration (relatable). And because this is a holiday story with a supernatural twist, she gets an unexpected visit from her guardian angel, who basically tells her she’s wasted her life and has six months to fix it. (Nothing like a celestial intervention to make you rethink all your life choices.)

So what does Nickie do? Immediately quits her job and throws herself headfirst into her first love—writing. But of course, the universe isn’t going to let her have an easy transition into her dream career. Enter Jordan "The Devil" Devlin—her ex, her biggest regret, and the editor-in-chief standing between her and her fresh start. Jordan and Nickie have years of unresolved tension, professional competition, and just enough lingering chemistry to make every interaction charged (and mildly infuriating). Watching them navigate their past while trying to work together is equal parts hilarious and frustrating, and honestly, I would’ve paid good money for someone to just lock them in a room and force them to talk things out like adults. (Spoiler: that does not happen, because these two love dancing around their issues.)

K.L. Brady delivers a fun, heartwarming, and sometimes exasperating read that perfectly captures the chaos of midlife reinvention, the agony of unfinished business, and the terrifying excitement of taking a second chance on yourself. While some of Nickie’s choices feel impulsive enough to require a wellness check, her journey is relatable, messy, and ultimately satisfying. The romance is slow burn but worth it, and the supporting cast—including her no-nonsense best friend and a therapist with the patience of a saint—add depth to the story. The Nick Before Christmas is part romance, part career redemption arc, and part “Dear God, what am I doing with my life?” meditation, making it the perfect read for anyone who loves their holiday stories with a side of existential crisis and a splash of sarcasm. Four stars for the wit, the slow-burn second-chance romance, and the undeniable fact that sometimes, the best Christmas gift is getting your act together.

Holy Christmas Magic! I adore this story. If Nickie can have Christmas in July, why not read about it in April?

Nickie was grounded but not settled, successful but not a success; she was alive but not living.

Nickie Wright's life has taken a turn for the worse. After a serious accident and a Divine intervention, she decides to change her career, her relationship, and her life. The reader follows Nickie as she finds her place in the world after her best friend's betrayal, her boyfriend's indifference, and a holy encounter with an ominous Christmas deadline.

Writing was always Nickie's passion, but she lacked confidence in her abilities. She has a habit of jumping to conclusions and flying off the handle, but it's merely her insecurities showing. Jordan "The Devil" Devlin runs hot and cold with his criticism of her articles, which only adds to her uncertainty. However, working for the man that broke her heart helps her find her way back to writing, even though sparks fly as battles lines are drawn in their professional and personal lives.

The chemistry between Nickie and Jordan is intense, and their relationship is volatile. I couldn't wait until the two knuckleheads finally communicated and admitted their feelings. The couple's dynamic is a testament to Ms. Brady's talent in creating well-developed and relatable characters.

I was captivated by Nickie's journey of self-discovery. Ms. Brady's writing is superb, and she has an uncanny ability to make one laugh and cry at the same time. Nickie's close friend Sasha is a pivotal character, along with Dr. Evan Goodman, Nickie's doctor, and new "friend," who both unexpectedly give Nickie reasons to question her career and relationships.

The Nick Before Christmas is a heartwarming and engaging story about finding your courage, passion, and that one person who gets you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romantic comedy with relatable characters and a satisfying ending.

Thank you to Ms. Brady for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
