Wicked Lightbringer

Rate this book
Fifty years ago a witch named Evanora Passe caught the attention of our famous light-bringer Samuel Reynaldi. I, Astrid, was her raven and I was charged with guiding her. As you will soon learn it was not just Lady Isra of the Dark that had incurred his wrath. Evanora Feltstone has just come of age at sixteen and is sent off to Wingdom's Academy to learn her craft. Astrid the Raven is assigned to her and while things are rocky. Astrid finds Evanora to be spoilt and tells her things are going to be different now. “Look here young lady. I appreciate you've never had anyone boss you around before because everyone has always waited hand and foot on you but let me tell you missy that's all going to change. You're in for a rough ride if you don't straighten yourself out girl.” Evanora is reluctant to comply at first but then tradegy strikes which leads her catching the attention of local light-bringer Samuel Reynaldi. The light-bringers are deemed to bring witches back into the good graces of the light who stray from their path going towards darkness. After Evanora receives more unpleasant news she seeks refuge in the wasteland Glamvein only to awaken the mystical entity within the mountain peak where she meets Leonard Passe for the very first time. Evanora has not only awakened the magics but also imbued them within herself and when she's unable to control the dark forces inside her, she lashes out taking the life of an innocent. And now Samuel Reynaldi sees her as his to take. He's intending to make her pay for her crimes against the light however Samuel tries to reason with Evanora first insisting there is another way. “Oh but Evanora it's not as simple as that. The light have you in their sights because you are foretold to be a major player in the darkness. That is something that I, the light-bringer cannot ignore. Even if I wanted to.” Evanora rebuffs Samuel dismissing his pleas so he tells her matter of factly what will happen if she strays too far. “Well the tricky dilemma we have here is whether you'll falter or ascend to something greater. If darkness is deemed to befall you then you can rest assured I'll be the one that drags you back down to earth. After all it is my job.” Evanora then disappears from the land. Samuel cannot fathom where she has absconded to but then he discovers the truth. Evanora has married Leonard Passe and had a child with him and they are living in Wretchenheart but Evanora has made herself an enemy in the form of Zelena Grimsbane, a witch who desperately wants her son to wed Evanora's child so when Evanora snubs Zelena; it is Zelena who goes snooping around in Evanora's unmentionables and discovers she's on the run from the light-bringer. Samuel cannot believe his luck when Zelena promises to deliver him Evanora Passe but Samuel Reynaldi doesn't make deals with witches. Will he make an exception this time and be known as the wicked light bringer? USA Today Best-Selling Author Isra Sravenheart tells the story of the young witch who found herself caught up in the heinous web of the cruel and passionate light-bringer who will do anything to ensure he succeeds in dragging those back to the light. Even if it means bringing them to their doom.

Evanora is a spoiled witch who goes to Wingdom. Soon after she gets there, she meets her familiar Astrid. They will soon learn she’s on lightbringer Samuel radar but due to events she goes on the run. Even though she will make new enemy while on the run, she just trying to survive. Wicked Lightbringer is incredible story of dark vs light. You will definitely want to read this new series.

I’ve never read this author before, but I was intrigued by this book. I started reading it, and I was struck by how different this was. This is told from the viewpoint of a bird who is the familiar to a witch. Sometimes we see another character’s viewpoint, but most of this is from his standpoint. I hadn’t read the books that came before this, so I did a little digging and found out what’s going on. I liked this book, and I do want to go back and start the others. First, though, on to the next book in this series. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The storyline is exciting and intriguing with strong, reliable and interesting characters that has you rooting for them. It’s a griping read of dark versus light , enjoyable and very addictive and I look forward to more.

I was given this book to read as an arc reader Good start to the series how ever there are a few inconsistencies. Like people being part of a conversation and then suddenly walking into the room/scene and joining the conversation.

I feel that the book moves at a fast pace, it concentrates on the important parts, it could have been flesh out more and the readers attention would still be held.

I wish we would have gotten more insight to Evanora and her personality, background and struggles with which she is going through.

I love the world it is set in, magical scenes and big gothic castles, especially that animals such as owls are teachers, I would love to see more of this side of things.

I feel that I would have had a greater understanding of the world and people in it if I would have read the other books first. I truly felt sorry for Evanora and how people treated her, for how she reacted to situations. But she was only 17 and had been kept inside and sheltered, the way she was written was very true to for her age and experiences.

I look forward to the continuation of the series and will read the others books set in the same world.

“A young witch caught up in the heinous web of the cruel and passionate light-bringer who will do anything to ensure he succeeds in dragging those back to the light. Even if it means bringing them to their doom.”

This is the first book of Isra Sravenhearts’ that I have had the opportunity to read. It is a spin off of her witches and warlocks series Dark spell. While I was worried I would have to have read her previous series to full understand this book and all it’s concepts, despite being informed that it can be read without this prior reading, I was fully able to immerse myself in the world created in this story.
With everything from hope to grief and betrayal this book covers it all while also being able to give you a unique perspective on how the story unfolds. It has definitely become a book that will remain on my reading list for future re-reads

Disclaimer: I was able to receive this book as an advance reader and free of charge

The idea of this story had so much promise, but the writing was terrible. The first time I picked it up I read for an hour and then DNF-ed it. Since I had signed up to review this book I waited almost a month and tried again and it was so hard to get through. The point of view was supposed to be the Raven but it would shift around without warning and made the story difficult to follow. Just the writing in general was rough to read. It was almost like the author was trying to make it formal and old time-y but then would randomly throw in slang or swear words that didn’t fit in with the rest of the dialogue and everything was over explained and described multiple times. Many plot points were forgotten or seemed to change as the story went on. One of the main ones I noticed was everyone seemed to forget that the main character was cursed and that it would be passed down to her children. It should have effected the events of the rest of the book but it was never brought up again and didn’t change anything. I don’t think I can continue to read any more of this author’s books.

A fantastical “Les Mis”
The long arm of the law questioning his integrity in hunting down a bounty. Will he sell his soul for his prize? How long will his quarry remain on the lamb? Will she be treated differently due to her youth or her infant daughter?

Interesting how post-partum depression was incorporated. Good to normalize topics such as this.

Fave quote:
‘Nobody [ticks] off a witch and lives to tell the tale with everything intact. Time would only tell just how bloody a battle it would be.’

The story continues in ‘Rogue Warlock’ – coming soon!

Wicked lightbringer is one of those books that will keep you hooked and guessing until the end. It is full of action with a bit of romance. The main character evanora is a witch who is still quite young when her whole life changes and she becomes a mother and a wife but her past still haunts her. Can she escape it for good or is she doomed forever. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Evanora is a spoiled young witch who learns that her that her life is about to change alot when she meets a raven and learns that its her familiar Astrid. However her life is changed more than she could ever imagine when she catches the attention of the lightbringer and she ends up on the run just trying to survive. This is a great read with struggles of light and dark. And the will to survive.

Received this book as an ARC. Loved the light verses dark theme throughout the book. Interestingly it has a POV from a crow which I found very diferent from other books. I love that the author keeps the old time writing style through out the book including spice scene. Book definitely was left with you wanting to read the next one.

I've received a copy of the book as an ACR. It's my first time reading a book from the author, and I'm not very inside with the story of the series, but it's a nice and easy book to read. I'm giving four stars cos for me I was missing more dynamic scenes with magic as an fantasy book with witches should go.
I'm seeing forward to start the series.

I found this book really gripping. I feel I enjoyed it more than I thought. I was always hooked and ready to find out what happened next. I am not usually a fantasy reader.

I would recommend, but not read again.

What would you do to survive?
Evanora a young naive, somewhat timid, some may say spoiled young woman and witch, has entered Wingdom's Academy. Soon after she meets her familiar, Astrid. They then learn she's on the radar of the high ups & lightbringer Samuel specifically. Tragic events unfold in an eventful day. Evanora's life is changed forever. While she's cunning, on the run she's also fearful. At 18 she's still paranoid, yet has a grand scheme, although she makes yet another enemy. How will this end?
I love that Astrid's telling the story, you also see other points of views & inner dialogue. Many characters from Her Dark Love make cameos, there's also Easter eggs to find. It's a great read of struggles with light & dark and doing what you have to, to survive.

I have read Isra's stories before and I always find them very intriguing. This one was awesome as well. Evanora was a young witch who had unfortunate circumstances surrounding her. She had to escape in order to survive. But unknown to her, betrayal was in the air. A story full of magic, betrayel and control. I can't wait for the next one.
