I have to have her.

I’ve been alone for so long. I never thought I would want to change that.

But when I saw her, I knew she was meant to be mine. And now that her husband is…gone, it’s time to make my move.

I’ve never felt like this about anyone. I want her everything, her body, her mind, her soul.

And I’ll do what it takes to make her my submissive. I’ll keep her safe, forgive her debts, and make everyone who’s ever hurt her pay.

All I need is her name on that dotted line.

“All roads lead to Sovereign Mountain.”

Set against the sweeping backdrop of northern Montana in winter, Sovereign is the perfect spicy love story for dark romance readers.

Keira Garrison has never known affection from her husband. After being tricked into giving up her family ranch, she finds herself lost and miserable in an unhappy marriage.

But one night, she meets the arresting Gerard Sovereign, her husband’s rival and the owner of the biggest cattle ranch in Montana.

Sparks fly. Their chemistry is undeniable.

But then tragedy strikes and Keira finds herself widowed and alone, unprotected from her late husband’s brothers who will stop at nothing to take the land she inherited.

With nowhere to go and no one to turn to, Keira finds herself at the mercy of Gerard Sovereign. He’s handsome, mysterious, dangerous, and hiding secrets that will turn her world upside down.

But he’s also her last hope.

Sovereign is a dual POV, age gap, dark, high heat cowboy romance with an anti-hero MMC. It can be read as a standalone. Please check content warnings before reading.

5 Ride Your Man, Little Redbird Stars ⭐

The author describes this book as Yellowstone meets 50 Shades of Grey. From the first page I was obsessed. Set in the mountains of Montana, the saga of the Sovereigns versus the Garrisons was all I could think about. 50 Shades doesn't hold a candle to this beauty.

He’s the biggest, baddest motherfucker in our corner of the world. I’m completely ashamed to admit it, but some, unevolved part of me wants to roll over and open my legs at that thought.

Gerard Sovereign might be emotionally constipated but he can communicate clearly when necessary. Thicc, rugged, strong and in complete control until he lays eyes on the wife of his enemy. And everything Gerard worked for has come to fruition. He will have her too.

She was the daughter of a rancher until circumstances made her a teen bride to the horrible Clint Garrison. Keira is resigned to her fate till her husband dies. When everything is threatened around her, it's Gerard who offers her protection in the form of a sexual contract. Is it coincidence or entrapment?

I’m safe here, for however long I stay or he chooses to keep me. So far the sex has been a small price to pay for my protection. He’s gentle when he chooses to be and when he doesn’t, it’s the sweetest storm.

This was so effortless and consuming to read. Not only do you get a vivid picture of ranch life, the relationship between Gerard and Keira left me breathless. Honestly, the intimacy was intense while the unspoken feelings between them bled off the pages. It was turbulent at best.

I usually avoid BDSM romances because I'm not interested by it, but the author did a remarkable job shedding light around what it really means to be in a relationship of these dynamics. That trust is everything. So many secrets to get through, you'll be addicted. Gerard Sovereign may be the King of the Mountain but Keira Garrison will be his undoing.

╰┈➤KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

🌺 𝐒𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐍 🌺 Is the first full length romance book within (The Sovereign Mountain) series by new to me author Raya Morris Edwards. Spoken in dual perspectives. Gerard Sovereign & Keira

After seeing this pop up a time or two on my GR feed I decided to take the plunge. I saw one review say it was like yellowstone & 50 shades of grey so who's going to say no to that!! And since I'm a HUGE FAN of yellowstone and cowboys I raced off and oneclicked, and I'm so glad I did!! This pulled me in straight away, I loved the ranch life, could've done without the BDSM side of things lol which I kind of avoid like the plague..But each to their own, all in all a really enjoyable unputdownable unique read which I think would appeal to many readers.

He had so many layers to him, a man of few words, spoke in riddles, and liked what he liked, was fiercely loyal to those who deserved it, and didn't give his heart or share his bed easily.

She was soft to his hard, even though life had kicked her down many a time she always dusted herself off and accepted what was dealt her.

Both of these two had a heartbreaking start to life in their young teenage years. I guess their soul spoke to the other and solidified their bond once she became his.

She became his in an utterly unconventional way, but it worked for them and what made this book as unique as it was. I'm so glad I took that plunge and purchased this and I'm definitely keen to read more by this author.

This Book was a DNF for me. It was just bad. Maybe I’m not the ideal audience here, but it makes no sense to me that someone who was abused and controlled for 4 years would be ok with half the things Gerard wanted. Also- Gerard is not a sexy cowboy name in my opinion. He was extremely flippant of her trauma that seemed to disappear into thin air for some reason. And she’s literally a dumb child. I get there’s supposed to be an age gap but she doesn’t have to be a moron. The plot had huge holes, the grammar and spelling mistakes were ridiculous. Not a fan. At all.

What a book!!!
I haven’t the knowledge of this kind of relationship, it’s powerful and the same time disrespectful ( for me), but the love between the characters are real and this story is well written!
It’s worth the reading.

I loved this.
Every single page.

I haven't been this moved by a BDSM focused book in ages. It hit all the things I love and I cried multiple times. I love these two broken people with my whole heart.

I was immediately hooked on both of these characters. Gerard Sovereign was a mountain of a man, both in stature and in presence. He is a man who commands respect and deference. He oozes control and sex appeal. Keira Garrison is an obedient and cloistered wife of his rival. From the first moment they meet, the connection is electric. For her, it's frightening and can't mean anything good. For him, it's the beginning of his final revenge. He'll destroy his for and take the spoils of war.

This book was hot as hell, there is no doubt and it has all the kinky situations you could ask for. BUT, I feel like that description doesn't do justice to the way my heart was aching for them both. I don't want to belittle the deep connection I felt to them or how romantic I actually found this to be.

Gerard and Keira have burrowed deeply into my heart so quickly. I'll remember their quiet moments of connection as much as the erotic scenes. There is just something special about watching their trust build and their love grow.

She might feel like she has no choice and Gerard HAS manipulated events to make it appear that way. But watching her discover that her submission means she can have everything her heart has longed for.. they can both be winners. After life dealt them both shitty hands, these two orphans can find a home together.

I have always said that "BDSM used for healing" is one of my favorite things to read. That is true. Yet, I feel like it's not something I see too often anymore. Many authors throw a "spank and a good girl" into their books for the fun of it. And hey, it CAN be super fun to read. Yet that's not BDSM just because she calls him "sir", there's something more that I crave. This book did that for me. Because once you see a couple that NEEDS intimacy this way... it's hard to not see other versions as a pale comparison.

I have never heard of Raya Morris Edwards before, but she certainly has my attention now. I highly recommend this book to lovers of Dark and Erotic Romance. Fans of Godwin and Simone may also find enjoyment here. There are many triggers, so check out the author's site for a full list, but I also didn't find this to be "too dark", though I know that's subjective. But a lot of the focus is on their relationship and their interactions are not abusive or coercive beyond Gerard "urging" fate to put them together.

6 stars (A new favorite for sure!)

He's got a wild mind and a cold heart, but for me he's willing to forgo both.
Definitely an author to watch! Sovereign was raw and heartfelt. I can't say the plot was 100% believable, but the sizzling-hot dark chemistry did keep me well entertained. 😂

Plot in a nutshell: Keira's had a rough life. She was orphaned at 17, and then coerced into marriage at 18 by a man who just wanted her ranch.
That's what I need. To be loved so hard it hurts.
Now at 21, she's resigned to her fate . . . until she meets her husband's enemy, Gerard Sovereign.

Sovereign's also had a hard life, but he's not resigned to anything. At 38, he fully intends to get his revenge on the Garrisons no matter how long it takes. And stealing Garrison's sweet little wife is just the icing on the cake.
Tonight is the first night of the rest of my life with her. She doesn't know it, but this is a consummation.
These two! Sovereign was a manipulative bastard, but Keira was his willing victim . . . a little too willing at times. I wished she'd given him a bit more hell, but I did really like the way Sovereign's obsession with her evolved over time.
I know how to be her Dom, but I don't fucking know how to be her man.
I have to admit that despite my love for all things kinky, contract-based BDSM is not my cup of tea. Here, that held true, but by the end the author managed to convince me these two belonged together and their HEA was very satisfying.
The dark part of me I was afraid to show her . . . she gets off on that.
If you're into brooding, morally-gray cowboys with a penchant for sadism, you'll want to check this one out!

Something animal wakes in me. She’s not on birth control and I can smell she’s ovulating. The scent is a little sweeter and it hits me like a brick wall. It’s like an electric shock that blows my pupils and turns my senses all the way up. ……woof?? ……rawr??

“I’m not paying you with sex,”
“It’s not like that,”“I want you as my submissive.”
I might be trippin.. but I don’t see much of a difference in this scenario.

What the fuck does he have down there? A battering ram?

His hips rock and he strokes gently up against my cervix.

He’s bottoming out, the head of his cock stroking up against my cervix as he fucks.

I pump my hips out and thrust hard, getting all the way to the soft resistance of her cervix.
I don’t even know what to say

This book was just not for me at all. I can’t tell you a single thing I liked about it.

DNF 51% It’s not you, Mr. BDSM Cowboy, it’s me.

I’m just not the right audience for this. My favorite bits involved Big Dog (really?), Small Dog (wow), and Angel the painted mare. I was drawn to the premise even though I know I’m not usually into all the rules and restrictions (heh) that come along with bdsm romance. If you are, you might really enjoy this.

❝Sign it, redbird,❞ he says quietly. ❝Sign it and let me give you everything.❞

imagine a man who kills your husband and orchestrates a whole plan over many months to get you to be his. and that man is a 6'5" tattooed cowboy, who becomes obsessed with you the first time he lays his eyes on you, who is also the perfect mixture of Rip Wheeler — from Yellowstone and Christian Grey — from 50 Shades of Grey. i never knew i needed that, but damn. 😮‍💨

this is said to be a dark romance but it's actually really light. the only dark part about this is what Gerard did to have Keira under his protection (but her husband and his family deserved it anyway). other than that, he was kind, considerate, swoony, protective and so soft for her. Keira signs a bdsm contract with Gerard, and the communication and openness they had surrounding that whole aspect of the story was amazing. a healthy portrayal of bdsm dynamics imo. he never did anything that she didn't consent to, he didn't force her, he made sure she knew it was okay to use her safeword anytime, there was talk about safe sex, he made her feel comfortable to express when she wasn't sure/didn't want to do something, and the aftercare...it all came to be a big surprise to me because i thought this was going to be a lot darker and that Gerard was going to be an inconsiderate asshole. but he was the complete opposite. i probably thought this going in because i just finished reading a bunch of Rina Kent books, so i immediately was thinking the worst of Gerard from the beginning.

Gerard was very open with his communication regarding their dynamic but he's a closed book for everything else. however, Keira works her way under his skin and his walls slowly start to break down. and they fall HARD for each other. i loved both of their character development.

this book was still enjoyable and i'm definitely interested in reading the next book but the story kinda dragged for me and i was skimming the sex scenes so i couldn't rate it higher than 3 stars. expect a lot of smut in this, because that's literally their arrangement and through that, their relationship grows into more.

🖤 he HANDMADE cuffs for her wrists 😭 he doesn't want anything that has touched another person to touch her
🖤 he carries her everywhere
🖤 he calls her redbird and baby girl
🖤 curvy fmc
🖤 he's obsessed with her on sight and thinks she's the most beautiful women he's ever seen
🖤 touch her and die
🖤 she's also possessive over him like he is her
🖤 an actual plot besides the romance
🖤 he's only soft for her
🖤 her husband never allowed her to have a horse so he immediately gives her one and makes a bridle for her
🖤 his last name is sovereign (which is what he goes by), tell me why i find that name so hot
🖤 did i mention the age gap? he's 38—😩 and she's 21 👀

this is really good book to start first if you want to get into dark romance.

Reminds me a lot of one of my favourite historical erotica, Natasha Blackthorne’s A Measured Risk.

It’s not set in Montana and it’s not about feuding cattle ranch families.

But it is about a hero with BDSM proclivities seeing a sheltered woman who is married to a man he does not respect, and supporting her through her trauma by day and by night introducing her to submissive nature. There is even a horse connection with the heroine!

Here there is more of a revenge element. It’s not he thinks lowly of the heroine’s husband but he actively hates them and seeks revenge and retribution.

I was pleasantly shocked by the explicit nature of the BDSM scenes. The hero is a dirty talker and a dirtier dom 🤭 I think the beginning was the most interesting and unpredictable. I wish there was more of that, but the middle half was one BDSM act after another. As the heroine starts to wonder if things were orchestrated for her to be with the hero, this is where the plot could have used a little jolt, as it became all too predictable. It was still entertaining, but didn’t grip me as much.

I would have liked it so much more if the BDSM stuff wasn't so prevalent in the story. It just got more and more tedious and repetitive.

Safety:

No cheating/sharing between MCs, but hero has shared before I think. And both MCs fiance/husband cheated on them.

No ow drama- hero was engaged when he was 19 and thought he loved her. She cheated on him and he also got snipped. He doesn't love her anymore and I never felt like heroine was 2nd best. There are also mentions of his past and basically all the BDSM stuff he's done with heroine, he's done with other submissives except bringing them to his room.

Om drama- heroine is married in the beginning and there is a short sex scene.

No virgins/manho

This is dark cowboy BDSM romance. If that sounds good to you, you’ll probably also like it. It delivers exactly what’s advertised. It’s the best steamy cowboy book I’ve read – which doesn’t mean much, because I’ve only read like, 4 other books in that trope. But, nevertheless!

This is about Sovereign (38) and Kiera (21). He’s a wealthy and powerful rancher in Montana. She lives nearby, on a smaller ranch with her terrible husband. They meet and have an instant attraction. But, he’s got morals, he won’t be with a married woman! So, naturally, then coerces her into living with him in his big isolated house, and becoming his submissive (His logic, like, was funny, in a way that I enjoy from unhinged heroes).

I’m making this sound like a dark romance with an unhinged hero – and, it is. But, the way it’s done doesn’t feel over the top. Although it’s very steamy, this is more of a quiet, character-driven story. To the extent that an obsessive hero can be “subtle,” he kind of is. That’s not to say he doesn’t do some wild shit – he does! But, he mostly only does stuff like for revenge purposes (or, for the purpose of getting Keira through any means necessary). He's otherwise just a rancher, and doesn't go around just for fun. This feels more grounded than many other dark reads with unhinged heroes.

The writing is good, it’s not as stellar as Lauren Gilley’s or as flowery as Giana Darling’s, but it’s a step above the average spicy book. Even though we knew from the blurb that Kiera would end up living with Sovereign, it took a few chapters for this story to get there. In a lesser book, I might have been fed up that it didn’t get to the point sooner. But, the story drew me in, so I liked the unhurried way it unfolded.

I wouldn’t say this is a book where I loved either main character – I liked them fine, but they’re not favorites. He was possessive, domineering, big and strong, and bad at emotions; she was sweet and naïve, and worn down from a hard life. Typical characters we’ve all seen before. But, I didn’t need to feel like they were unique. I’m not sure that each individual part of this story was great – but together, the whole of it was something that I enjoyed.

Since Sovereign decides that Keira belongs to him after their first meeting, it’s almost insta-love vibes – a trope I hate. So, why did I like this book? Somehow, it made that work. I think because most insta-love books aren’t well written: they tell me that the characters have this instant deep pull to each other, but they don’t show me that. This book did a good job of showing it. Also, insta-love usually means there’s no relationship development, but this still had that.

There were a few moments that were a little too ridiculous. Like, in one scene, he comments that he can “smell” that she’s ovulating. What? Is this suddenly a werewolf book? I call bullshit that a normal human man can tell that! But, I'll be nice and I won’t knock down a star for that.

I don't like the show "Yellowstone," and I also don't love the other dark cowboy romances Knotted and The Harder They Ride. But, I think if you liked that show and those books, you'd like this. But, even if you didn't like that show or those books- since I didn't either, you may still like this.

This was my first read from this author, I’ll check out more from her, and I’ll continue reading this series when she releases Westin's book, and I assume Jack will get a book.

This is a Dark Age Gap Dom/Sub Cowboy Romance, and this is the first book in The Sovereign Mountain series. I really got pulled into this story, and I loved getting into the characters in this book. I listened to the audiobook of this book, and I really liked the narrators. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

what did I just read?

Fifty shades but make it cowboy…
And also not good. I don’t even know what this was. Plot was engaging enough but all the smut was unnecessarily to be honest.
Maybe this is not my cup of tea, but I’ve read everything from dark to content romance and I don’t even know what to make of this.
The MMC kept calling the FMC strong and brave but that woman was the biggest dormat I’ve ever seen in written literature.
The MMC was not morally gray, he was just black. All of them were. How to get away with murder in Montana is what this book is.
Everybody is a murderer here.
Ugh
Too early to be reading the worst book of the year for me, but man it is down there…
I need a shower
Ughhhh I wish I could turn back time and NOT read this…

Drama!!

Wow rough cowboy and then some! Gerald owns Sovereign ranch and is one of closed off but most powerful in area where he is neighbors with Kiera who is in a manipulative marriage- not physical abuse (well I still think so hair pulling still in there- and not the good kind) but absolutely mental abuse. And then comes across Gerald whom is a Dom- oh it goes there! The smut was pretty good, the scenes were not too rough but had moments and story line was good- enjoyed!

If you want an abusive dom/sub porno this is for you

Granted, maybe you have to appreciate the concept of submission to fully appreciate a story about this type of sexual interest. But even if you remove that, you have a young young girl who has been groomed by her ex-husband and wanted to kill her. In comes a man forcibly who pushed a 21-year-old into a sub contract relationship, or else she has nowhere to go. That teaches submission to a girl who went from a life of submission to a life of submission. Abused on both counts.

You can say "oh well she wanted it the second time", but when you have somebody who is that young, who’s brain isn’t even fully developed -- she doesn’t know what it’s truly be loved. To have any strength or emotional maturity. A tragic young girl who doesn’t even know how to stand on her own. Zero strength or independence. And he manipulates her into becoming even more submissive, through pain and pleasure -- creating a false cocoon that gives a sense of safety that she’s never had, without a true sense of self.

In a world where we are trying here in 2024 for women to have security in themselves -- creating this toxic situation to an essential child who doesn’t know any better -- it is a shocking thing this book was even written.

Nor should it be labeled as a cowboy romance, because there’s very little about this that is cowboy. This is coming from somebody who’s family owns a ranch. This is essentially back to back to Back sexual experiences that are sickening due to her broken abusive past.
