A woman in peril…Take a hike, they said. It’s good for your mental health, they said. What’s not good? Being stranded on an icy mountain road. Nor is needing to be rescued by sexy off-duty firefighter, Thoren Watkins, the one-night-stand I still can’t get out of my head. Normally, this would be awesome because Thoren is all kinds of attractive. But things are different now, and I’m struggling to love this new version of myself.Plus the one man she doesn’t want to rescue her…A bone-headed decision at the fire department lands me in hot water with a couple days off. Escaping to the mountains should be the perfect place for reflection. Instead, I’m rescuing pain-in-my-butt yoga teacher Kylie Monroe. She’s even hotter than I remember, and that’s a problem. How can I focus on salvaging my career when all I see is her?…Equals a weekend that changes everything.Snowed in and forced to spend days with her in a cozy cabin uncovers truths we’ve been hiding from ourselves and our friends. When we return to small town Newman, the peace we discovered together is threatened by a string of suspicious fires. Worse, the arsonist behind the destruction is someone close to me and targets Kylie as revenge.

Kylie has had a rough couple of months. She received a medical diagnosis that threatens her sense of self, and she's having trouble adjusting. She goes on a hike and gets stuck on a mountain road in a snow storm. Running off the road, she fears she's going to be stuck there, but hot firefighter Thoren gets sent by her friends to rescue her. Not exactly the person she wanted to see right then. Or ever again. They had had a one-night stand, and now were pretty much enemies.
So getting snowed in with him was definitely not on her list of things to do. But they call a truce - mostly so they don't kill each other - and end up opening up to each other in ways they never expected. Kylie tells him about her diagnosis and Thoren reveals that he was suspended from the firehouse for showing up hungover. In fact, he was so drunk when he went to pull her out of the ditch, that she had to drive back to his cabin.
But they don't judge each other, or pity each other. They accept and try to help each other, and find a peace together. When they finally get back to town, however, there is an arsonist who has been setting fires to empty buildings. That is, until the most recent fire, where the home wasn't empty, the results of which devastate the fire crew and threaten Thoren's new sobriety. It also seems that the arsonist may be targeting Thoren.
Kylie and Thoren are both pretty broken when we meet them. Each have deep rooted family issues that they have allowed to define them. Their acceptance of each other allows them to heal and start to put the past behind them.
There's a deep theme of not doubting yourself, being happy with who you are and not letting others make you feel less than. Also, allowing others to help you when you need it, not trying to do it all yourself. Those are often hard lessons to learn.
Good writing and an engrossing story.
Now I want to read the rest of the series!.

Flash Point is the third book of the New Fire Department series by Rae Fields. This book can be read as a standalone book, though I was most intrigued by the hints for book four.

The story follows feisty yoga teacher and ex-beauty pageant winner Kylie Monroe, and trouble fire fighter Thoren Watkins. These two are like oil and water, but the chemistry between them is off the charts. In fact, they've already slept together once and had subsequently decided to keep it a secret, only fueling the animosity between them.

They are forced together once again when Kylie is stranded after going hiking, and Thoren is close enough to be called in by their mutual friends. Despite the sexual tension while they are stuck together for a weekend in Thoren's cabin, they don't give in to that, but what they do is begin a deeper communication and get to know each other beyond the surface.

What makes them so good is that Thoren and Kylie are basically two sides of the same coin. Both have their issues/demons they have to fight and as a result of these they are insecure. Thoren is beginning a downward spiral but hasn't had the courage to ask for hep yet, (he also has some family issues. Kylie is coming to terms with being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and that her parents view of perfection is toxic. Unlike their closer friends, there is a safety that comes from their fledgling relationship.

Between the angsty feelings and working through these so that a relationship can help, there is also danger with an arsonist on the lose. There was so much going on, it was so easy to just keep reading this book. I was cheering for Thoren and Kylie the whole time.

*Arc Review*

4.5 stars! I absolutely love this series and have been so excited for Thoren’s book.
This is some of my favorite style of writing.

The only thing keeping it from a 5 are the female characters. With each book
they get increasingly more, I don’t need a man, why are you helping me, etc. At
the same time they don’t think they’re good enough and don’t get what
the guy sees in them. While I really like Kylie’s character she was the worst
at getting on my nerves.

I appreciate how patient he is with her, and all the male characters for that
matter. As annoying as the girls are, I thinks the way they act is pretty
realist. Also loved how he called her out for acting like a child lol

**I started this review as I was reading and getting frustrated. I’m so glad
that the further it goes the more communication and work plays a part.
So happy to see that**

I also decided to read the first two before starting the arc and I’m so glad I did.

Thoren is a troubled firefighter. I love his determination and strength and his relationship with his fellow firefighters. I wanted more information about what led up to his current hardships because it seemed like there had been an event that caused him to be so lost. I like that Kylie is so snarky. I like that she has drive in her business and her life. I feel for her with her current medical issues. I think she waffles too much in her feelings for Thoren and so does he. They both need to be more up front with their friends. The bad guy angle was different and interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat.

4.5 stars.

I enjoyed the connection and chemistry between these two, it allowed them to trust each other and to share themselves with each other in a way neither had before. I also enjoyed seeing how they handled their changing relationship and their pasts that were still impacting their future. There was lots of love, support, understanding and acceptance in this, and that family isn't just blood, family can be those who we choose to surround ourselves with. The story also shows how strong someone can be when they are able to lean on people, admit when they are wrong and learn from their mistakes.

This is my first Rae Field's book.
After reading this book, I am hooked and have become an instant fan.
Flash Point is hot & steamy with Thoren & Kylie. I love how caring Thoren was with her including staying with her to nurse her back to health when she got sick, not caring about her hair condition and even taken the clippers to help her. The story was packed with exciting action with Thoren's brother. It kept me wanting to turn the page to see what happened next. I recommend this book! I look forward to reading the rest of the series and future books by this talented author.

I haven’t been able to get into reading for a while and needed a lighter read.

Kylie and Thor were light enough to draw me in but not enough for me to be rolling my eyes at how predictable the story was. Two friends who end up being pushed together when Kylie makes a wrong choice while hiking.

From there their stories intertwine with each other, both during a time of need in their lives.

A great light read you won’t want to put down til the end!

Their story is romantic with some spice and heartfelt parts that comes with the job of a firefighter. Kylie was definitely a character that takes you a while to see beyond the attitude. Sorting their feelings out was start of the book & it picks up pace once danger is introduced & eveything starts to mash together. I enjoyed the camaraderie with the fire department & their women. Enjoyable! Honest review!

Loved this book! Thoren and Kylie are exactly what the other person needs. Love their chosen family members and their friends and the support that they provide. Thoren is a strong heroic fireman who definitely has a sweet, tender spot for Kylie and they have a lot to work through but the support they show each other is perfect. Highly recommend!

This is the first book I've read written by Rae Fields; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the third book in the Newman Fire Department Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Kylie & Thoren; when she gets stranded on the icy mountain road, he’s the one that comes to her rescue and forces them to stay at his cabin together.
