Thwump Thwump seemed to echo through Tristan Mabrey's body along with the unbearable pain. Where was he and why couldn't he open his eyes? When he was finally able to pry open his eyes he saw the face of an angel but when he reached up to touch her he felt such uncontrollable pain it took everything he had to throw up.
She told him not to move as she had just gotten his bleeding under control and would be at the hospital shortly. As consciousness slipped away he wondered why he was bleeding and needed to go to the hospital.
Tristan's new brother-in-law Ben found him trying to avoid the woman who had been following him incessantly all evening, even trying to follow him to the restroom. Ben laughed and told him he should have brought a date to which he responded that having a date at his sister's wedding was a big deal and he didn't know anyone who was that important and Ben just pointed at the tiny blonde talking to Tristan's mom.
Laurel Hunt, the paramedic who saved his life six months ago as they rescued his sister from a serial killer and who avoided him like the plague.
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Even though this is a standalone novel with its own HEA, I would highly recommend that you start reading this series from book one as the characters are recurring and fully invested in this story.
Laurel is on her way to deliver supplies to a woman who lives deep in the mountains when she trips over a murder and a baby trafficking ring. This book is action-packed, full of danger, intrigue and suspense and smoking-hot chemistry. The gripping storyline kept me turning the pages and I can't wait to read more in this series. Highly recommend!
I liked this book. Tristan was all alpha male on her and their baby and I loved it. He would do anything for them. Laurel had been through a lot and finding her HEA was something she never thought would happen. But she deserved it and Tristan was just perfect for her. I would love a story about her brother and those women they rescued, they deserved an HEA too
A great follow-up, but I have a question. Why do intelligent heroines, who know that they are in danger completely disregard the protection of professionals and loved ones to put themselves in dangerous situations because 1) they do not like to be told what to do, 2) their workplace is short staffed????? It does move the story along, but really...what happened to commonsense?
The story was good, the characters well developed and great editing.
How I felt: - I love a book where we have the couple together right from the beginning. I like seeing work out their problems and strengthening their relationship. We have a very protective MMC and a petite independent FMC. - I did feel the criminals were a bit "stupid", unrealistic, but the rest was so good I overlooked that. There were great emotions throughout the book, I love a book that has them all. - My trigger is pregnancy and babies, so this book was a bit hard for me. But like I said the rest was so good I managed to get through it without too much "panic" on my side.
I really enjoyed this book. I love books about strong women who overcome adversity. That description definitely fits Laurel. As a woman who has been there, done that I enjoy stories that champion women who go from abuse to a healthy relationship. Also being a woman who is almost 5 feet tall, I am cheered by Laurel being quite capable of taking care of herself even though she is small in stature. But having a 6 foot plus deputy sheriff that is falling in love with you and willing to do anything to protect you and the baby the two of you made in a passionate moment makes it so much better. When Laurel witnesses a murder and the murderer also sees her, having that deputy as ready backup is indispensable. And by the way, that little gal and her giant of a deputy have plenty of passion to keep the temp up throughout the book. I recommend the story of Laurel and Tristan, her deputy sheriff in shining armor.
Recovered from a gunshot, Detective Tristan Mabley sought the company of shy EMT Laurel Hunt who seemed find excuses to avoid him at every turn. At his sister’s wedding reception, Tristan certain Laurel, can’t avoid or refuse a dance and takes his shot; Laurel breathes deeply and accepts. 'Two months later, Laurel’s stunned by test results, she and Tristan had been busy with work and she avoided him a bit, they’d begun to drift apart but they’d have to talk now.
Running an errand before meeting Tristan to talk Laurel witnesses a murder but hides from the culprit, Tristan works the scene and is shocked to see Laurel’s car there and is frantic to find her. And an infant was missing from the scene! Tristan found Laurel exhausted and got her to safety as he explained the murderer would no doubt be after her so he can’t be identified Working the murder Laurel witnessed turns out to be one step in an elaborate, insidious scheme. Rating: 4.25stars
Detective Tristan has had his eyes on paramedic Laurel, ever since she worked on him after he was shot by a serial killer. Laurel’s past has made her skittish though, and when she witnesses something that puts her in danger, it’s Tristan who is determined to keep her safe.
This book takes place approximately six months after book one in the series, and is the story of the brother of the heroine in that book. It’s a fast paced thriller/suspense, with romance and mystery thrown in. An entertaining, and riveting read. Recommended for those who enjoy romantic suspense and mystery.
Loved Smokey Mountain Baby! Laurel was a very independent, forceful female. After getting away from an abusive family, and then an abusive husband, she became a very petite but forceful woman. She met Tristen while working as a paramedic, saved his life, then met him again at a wedding! The story that follows was suspenseful, scary and worrisome. I don’t want to say too much for fear of giving it away. This is a must read if you like suspense, twists and turns and of course, love! Enjoy!
Tristan Mabley faced death a few months ago. Now he can't forget the paramedic who saved him. Lauren Hunt likes her life simple. Tristan is trying to get to know Lauren after a night together at his sister's wedding. When Lauren witnesses a murder, Tristan's protective instincts kick in. This one is a fast ride. The romance and suspense are well done. The conclusion is satisfying. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense.
## STELLAR read. I liked the first book, but this one was even better. In the first book, the heroine was just too pushy/needy. Not so here. Both heroine and hero were interesting and likeable. The romance was perfectly balanced with the crime drama. I will gladly read again.
I absolutely loved this story, even though I feared an HEA would be impossible. Happy I was wrong. Ms. Quinn has such a talent for bringing her characters to life. Reading her books feels like an interactive movie, like being a fly on the wall and not missing a thing. I plan to read and enjoy all her books asap.
An amazing story about Tristan and Laurel. She saved him when he was shoot. And now they meet again at his sisters wedding. He is a cop but when she witnessed a murder he had to find her. He has to find answers of who is killed young women.
Knowing that Tristen found his angel from the last book is wonderful, but the situation they find themselves in is intense and scary. This family has been through the wringer, but they come out fighting.
Oh the story was fantastic! Why are young women dying snd where did their babies go? A mystery, a love that’s one that’s going to be everything the hero and heroine could want. Excellent read
I got sucked in by the 20 page teaser at the end of Book 1 even though I didn’t love that book. Now I’m 19% (abt 60 pages) in and we already have sex, murder, a bear attack, hypothermia and a surprise pregnancy It’s just too much ridiculousness. I’m done. DNF.
Laurel Hunt is the paramedic that helped to save Tristan Mabley's life after he was shot in the aorta. He has been trying to woo her but she had an abusive family life and is resisting until the night of Ben and Gemma's wedding when they give in to their mutual attraction.
I am thoroughly enjoying the Foggy Mountain series but must admit it Has me on the edge of my chair frequently. Strong women have not made Ben or Tristan's lives peaceful. Trying to keep their women safe has not been easy.
Laurel is a paramedic and saved Tristons' life when he got shot. They hooked up at Gemma and Ben's wedding and had been seeing each other off and on. Laurel finds out she is pregnant and witnesses a murder.
This is the second book in this series, and also the second book I have read by Ashley Quinn. The writing and story is through, characters are fully developed, and the plot has depth. The book reads real without over the top curveballs.
This story has danger,!suspence!, murder, and kidnapping of babies, and will keep you turning the pages to read what happens next until the end, looking forward to reading more books from this author
This is a well written story with great characters. I will warn you there are triggers in this one. Abuse and teen pregnancies are two along with murders. I would encourage everyone to give this one a chance. For me this was a quick read because I couldn't put it down.
This series is quickly becoming my new favorite! With thrilling plots, some romance sprinkled in and excellent dialogue, I recommend giving these books a read.
This book starts at a run and does not slow down. WHY did I wait so long to read this book?! Like Tristan says to Laurel about waiting-ANTICIPATION. If you've read any other of Ashley A Quinn's books, you just know it's going to be an excellent story. Once I started reading Smoky Mountain Baby, my anticipation was blown away. Twenty pages in and I could not stop reading. This story consumed my thoughts throughout the day, at work and before bed. I just HAD TO KNOW what happened between Tristan and Laurel. There were still moments with characters from the first book in this series and it was enjoyable to see them again. This story has a lot of thrill, love, suspense and good, loyal friends. At times, it put a smile on my face and made me laugh. Everything fits together and the ending had a plot twist that I didn't see coming. This is another book with a strong female character, but she still needs to rely on a strong male. I thought that A Beautiful End (also written by Ashley A Quinn) was a ten star, but this is now my favorite by this author!! I will DEFINITELY be reading this again.
