There’s something about Ryann; it makes me stop and take a second, third, or tenth look. And I found out today … she’s spicy.
I’ve always liked things packed with a little heat.
Ryann Denver.
The poor girl from Canada.
In the US with a forged visa.
She has sworn off men and relationships.
She gets caught in an audit to her workplace.
Will she be able to stay in the US and in Brooks?
Watson Gentry is a man straight from the sweetest rom-com. One that makes you feel all warm and gooey inside, like a freshly baked cookie that you can’t help but devour. And then, like a light switch, he’s a filthy-talking, orgasm-delivering hotshot.
Watson Gentry.
The hockey prodigy.
The goalie, who already has an NHL contract.
He sets his sights on Ryann.
How far is he willing to go to get her?
I roll my eyes, but the truth is, when he had his legs downward on that ice, rocking his hips to stretch himself out..
Well, I had thoughts running through my head. Dirty. Stupid. Sexy. Thoughts. Of me, underneath him..
Naked.
Let’s just say, Perfect Boy was a book of contradictions for me. There were parts that I loved and parts that made me cringe. Still, it all balanced out well enough in the end.
I was fine swearing off sex. That was, until Watson Gentry banged me into oblivion in a supply closet.
On one hand, I loved Ryann's attitude but, on the other hand, it seemed a bit excessive at times. Like their first meeting when Watson approached her? Girl good for you for holding your own but there's no need to be a bitch. Watson really was almost the perfect boy, though, so this book is definitely aptly named.
I don't know how other people felt but, personally, I cringed every time Watson called Ryann Tiny Dancer or Ry baby. I strongly disliked both nicknames and felt like they did not fit Watson or Ryann at all.
I’ve wanted her since I saw her in class for the first time. But she’s finally catching up to me.
And it’s about fucking time.
From the beginning of Perfect Boy, it was clear Watson has the hots for Ryann. Having read part of the previous books in the series, I don't remember finding anything substantial about Watson and Ryann from before they became dance partners in the other books. I also would have preferred more insight into how Watson even noticed her, how his attraction grew and what led to him approaching her. Now, it was all missing.
I come off as rude on purpose. Because it’s imperative for me to keep guys like Watson Gentry away. To keep myself safe.
Flirtatious Ryann cannot come out to play right now. Must. Stay. Strong.
Ryann pretty much thought he was hot from the beginning but had sworn of athletes and men in general. Yes, she definitely appreciated his good looks but still wanted nothing to do with him. I still feel like the change in her feelings from wanting nothing to do with him but finding him hot to lusting after him pretty much 24/7 should have been explored further.
Being called a slut in everyday life? Not fun. Being called a slut just before Watson Gentry rails the shit out of me against the supply closet wall? Hot.
Watson in all the spicy scenes? There's only one word that describes it: hot af. The way it seemed like he flipped a switch and became a different person. Not to mention his dirty talk! Watson is really the male equivalent for the saying "Lady in the streets and a freak in the sheets" and I’d never ever turn him down.
I found it interesting when Watson seemed to pick up on some clues of what's going on with Cade but never acted on them since he was always distracted with something else (Ryann). I think Watson was onto Cade long before Haley or anyone else.
This man is too good for me.
He’s too good for a fake marriage and a half-assed wife.
But maybe this marriage..isn’t so fake after all. It sure doesn’t feel fake. And my feelings, they are real.
Throughout the book, hints were dropped about Ryann's past but none of the bad stuff was ever properly detailed. Especially when she had the panic attack due to the fight between Watson and her ex, I would have wanted to know more about her background and why the fighting was so triggering for her.
My whole life, I’ve been trained to look for the worst in people. But I’m not sure there’s anything bad inside of that man.
And here I am, using him to stay.
Watson Gentry offered to marry me. Maybe I’ve lost my mind..because I said yes.
The main part of the book, the marriage of convenience between Watson and Ryann, was a bit of a predictable plot twist. I mean, Watson being super into Ryann but being constantly turned down? There is no one who would not have guessed that he would propose a marriage of convenience once he found out about her pinch with her visa. His behavior, while predictable, was super cute though. I loved the edge the marriage brought between Watson and Ryann and how it helped him to wear her down little by little.
However, I am not a fan of third-act break-ups in general and I am definitely not a fan of them when they are caused by stupid people for stupid reasons. That's how I felt about Ryann's actions. She definitely should have confided in Watson and talked with him.
She’s so set on not having sex with me, but little does she know, I’m looking for more than just a quick hookup when it comes to her.
And someday, I’ll make that clear.
Overall, despite me having quite a bit of critique about Perfect Boy, I really liked it. Overall, the story was there, the MMC was chef's kiss and the FMC was not one to cower but, instead, someone who stood up for herself.
Despite all the little things, the thing that bothered me most about Perfect Boy was the constant change of POV. When a book and the characters are skillfully written, they can bring forth the other character's thoughts and feelings in their own POV. Now, I feel like Hannah Gray did not even try that but instead kept changing POV's every couple of pages and several times within one chapter which definitely rubbed me wrong.
I received an ARC of Perfect Boy in exchange for an honest review
