Rate this book
Young Sean Callahan appears to be lost. His father who was a legendary Lawman, has just passed away. He did however train his son to be a leader and to follow in his footsteps. In 1894, he began working on the Intrepid Sea vessel. With the whaling trade slowing each year. He now sets his sights on something else. The one thing Sean knows he can't run away from...

His uncle is the courageous Captain James Callahan who runs the Boston Office for U.S. Marshals. He gives Sean a new start in life, by becoming a marshal himself. He is later ordered to an obscure town seemingly hidden in Rhode Island. His mission is to find out what happened to the four missing women. Under the watchful eye of retired Major Jeremiah Lancaster. He tries to understand what everyone appears to be hiding, in a town filled with folklore and superstition.

With seemingly no clues from the townsfolk. He must track down who is responsible or return home a complete failure. His new boss, Colonel Robert Goldberg is running for a seat on the United States Senate. Each day he eagerly awaits the answers that could ignite his campaign. By day, the young marshal hunts for a killer, and at night he must protect them from one.

What he discovers will amaze you and that is just the beginning. The secrets must come out. So, step up and get ready. It's going to be one hell of a ride. The adventure starts now. Get your copy today.

A Different Vampire Story

I am familiar with all the places in the book. I grew up in a neighboring town and can attest that some of the events regarding the belief in vampires existed and graves were dug up in those times. I particularly liked the characters in the book and wish that I could meet the Marshal. He was so honest with himself and his case. The book was written in a manner that I felt I was at home in RI once again.

Definitely will keep going

This book started of off slow for me, but if you can get past chapter 4 you are good, you will fall in love with every character, even the side characters will draw you in, this is definitely a great read.

I'm about 20% done with this book. Every single page has an incomplete sentence. There are commas in bizarre places. There are quotation marks missing all over the place. It really doesn't seem like a human being wrote this
Update: I finished the book. I always finish a book no matter how bad.
It seriously needs an editor. The grammar is horrendous all throughout. Every page is a mess for over 300 pages. It was tiring to read.
The story is also so bad. The marshall is terrible at his job and does no detective work. This would be fine if his colleagues didn't act like he was this incredible miracle worker at the end of the story. He fumbled the ball the entire time and didn't ask any questions at the end of the story. He didn't interview the surviving victim. He just pulled her out of captivity and didn't bother to confirm the other bodies were where they were said to be. What???
They also don't even flinch when they see the vampire. They were basically like, "ah yes, a vampire! Golly!" Completely insane and unbelievable reaction.

I also don't believe for one second the other reviewers read this book. It's objectively poorly written.

Anyway thank you for the free kindle copy. I'm sure your next book will be much better.

This is an amazing suspenseful book that keeps the reader engaged from the beginning. Each chapter flows into the next one so well that you think that you are in each well written part of the horror story. It has so many twists that you feel like you are riding on a roller coaster ride and you do not want to get off. If you are into thrillers that leave you speechless and you have no idea who the killer is, then this is the book for you!

I am leaving this book now after having read 47 per cent. The book seems to have been written by w or 3 different people. It is so poorly written that I just cannot continue. At page 144 absolutely nothing interesting has happened and I just have to stop. To be fair, there are a couple chapters that have been well written and easy to read but for the most part. NO.

Intriguing

I like the premise and idea behind the book. The characters were well thought out. But the book just dragged on. There was so little happening it felt as though the story was stagnant. The conversations also tended to just repeat themselves. I honestly hope the author continues to improve in the rest of the series.

Cool

This was a very interesting story. A young Marshall is sent to a small town to investigate the disappearance of four women. He spends a lot of time trying to find clues but it all remains a mystery until the end. I didn't have any idea who was responsible until the end of the book. I can't wait to read the next one.

First time reading Steven Banner and came away quite impressed. Didn't think much when I started this book being it set in the 1890's, not my cup of tea. But I have to admit, was excellently written, characters were top notch, and story flowed really nicely. No cell phones, no telephones, no internet, no cars, just basic living and detective work. Recommend highly.

New England in the 1890s, and, Vampires!

Enjoyable and easy reading novel of mysterious tragedy, murder, and mystery. Likable characters. Based on the ending and the plot laid out, hope the author has more to come from the Marshall and his team.
